Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!

Those were good games. I always knew I was about to die whenever I saw Espy headed towards me with a knife haha.

That was fun. I realise I like it with a smaller number of players than the 16 limit they have. It's more fun when there is only around 10 for me, so there isn't so much chaos.
When you're snake, is the camo always active? I wasn't sure since I could clearly see myself, and espy always kept knifing me when I was. ;)

So the camo index actually translates into invisibility? That's very cool. I should put some more time into the beta before it closes up, I guess.

Damn, I must've missed it. I hopped on at about 11:00 CST and everyone was gone already. I've been having connection issues all day though, so I can't stay in a game for more than 5 minutes.:bomb::bomb::bomb:

i checked around 7:30 pst and saw a game going on, but I couldn't connect to the host so I just left and played some other game and got owned...

Oh come on, you killed me plenty of times and I wasn't the only knife player. Tanuki knifed me plenty of times too although I imagine he used that on me more than others. I suck with guns so I prefer the knife.

I have Level 3 Fast Move and Level 1 Knife equipped.

With less players, it makes the game easier for Snake but it makes it a little more boring for the other players. I still prefer a full game, but I do like playing with CAGs since you get less people acting like jerks.

You can still see hot breath coming out of people, so you have to be careful of hiding in dark places, since the white breath cloud makes you easy to spot. Also, if you crawl fast, you kick up dust which can be seen.

Night vision goggles make you visible though since Snake's head isn't camo'd.

Great game last night, everyone. Lots of killer knife action going on, especially from espy the ninja.

Thanks, it was a lot of fun. When's the next game night!

I'm horrible at CQC, I just empty clips into the person hoping they die before I have to reload. I wasn't sure how to get dog tags from people when I was Snake though. I've got a cold right now so anyone want to have a game tonight? I can only stand playing online with either friends or CAGs haha.
anyone playing tonight?
I'll be on in a few hours.

PC name is primetime171 if you aren't in the clan.

No one was talking except me last night, so that kind of sucked.

Instead of reloading, switching to your handgun. An entire GSR handgun clip does almost as much damage as an entire P90 clip.

You knock them out, kneel over them, press Triangle, and it pops out. You can leave them knocked out or kill them.

I might play tonight if someone organizes a game.

Thanks, I really want to play some MGO tonight, guess it's not happening huh?

Maybe I just stink at the game, but I'm really unhappy/bored with the fucking thing.

The character controls are somewhere between Resident Evil classic move-like-a-tank and modern smooth and even paced what-it-should-be-like pacing.

Except the fucking aiming, which not only has an awful fucking useless cursor, but is every bit as loose as the characters are not-at-all loose.

I'm done with the beta. I'm unimpressed. There's no real creativity to be had here; small levels of clusterfuck-style gameplay with the complex MGS-style controls, and those controls just don't work in such a frantic environment.

A nice effort, I suppose, but I'll be picking up MGS4 for the solo game, not this crap.

play it some more myke. While I do agree with you, it also is something that needs to be played quite a bit before appreciating it. though if you do play it more and still hate it, I do somewhat agree with your statement.

Myke. Don't play this like an FPS, play it more like a third person shooter with over the shoulder aiming.

Move around normally, pointing the camera in the direction that you think enemies will come from. Then only use the third person over the shoulder aiming mode. Just stick to that to begin with, and don't fiddle with the other skills or modes until you get the basic movement and aiming down. It should only take a short time to get used to the switch between free camera and OTS aiming. Trying to jump between OTS and FPS mode doesn't work.

Honestly the FPS mode sucks due to the gun placement, really only useful for snipers, using scopes for long range rifle combat, or single player.

Don't use the cover system, it was built for the single player and is too slow and quirky for multiplayer.

Once you get down the basic combat with freelook and OTS aiming, then add on more complex stuff.

I think the biggest problem with this game is that it doesn't limit players to start with in the multiplayer training so that they can get used to the pacing. So then some players will fool around with all the more advanced stuff and get frustrated when it doesn't work.

I'm pretty terrible at aiming the guns quickly. That's why I worked on the knife on CQC, and it's a lot more fun catching someone with it instead of a machine gun. It's nice to hide in a box, let someone walk right by you, then jump out and zap em. Setting traps like the magazine is also a good way to play the game that doesn't involve having a perfect shot.

In other news, it seems like Grand Theft Auto may be grabbing a lot of people's attention this week. I just noticed last night that the PSN game servers, including but not just MGO, seemed pretty empty. I don't have GTAIV to see how crowded it was.
You do suck at the game, myke, at least from the few minutes you were on.

Thanks for the advice. I may try it some more over the next coupla days if GTA continues to freeze on me.

I was the only one on this afternoon, and as one of the TDM games was ending, everyone on the screen was suddenly starting to look dazed, there was some effect on the screen, and the music might've been changing. Anyone know what the hell happened? Could've been a stun grenade but I doubt it.

Oh hey, this is OTT but in regards to the freezing issue, apparently it has to do with whether or not your signed into PSN.

Try signing out, then progress, and see if that helps out.

Sounds like an SOP Destab (Destabilization). It's a primary weapon you can plant in the enemy base's respawn square and it makes all existing people freeze. Their screens flash white, they start moaning and crying and can't move.

Interesting. I wondered how that worked.

I learned yesterday what to do when I run out of ammo. Go back to your base and hit Start.

I'm surprisingly having a lot of fun with MGO, the fact that I finally found out how to get into a first person aim yesterday is funny to me. I'm going to play some more later today, hopefully I can get more play time as Snake.

Damn, I wish I knew that. I ran out of ammo a few time and than just started using my handgun to try and kill people. Always ended up in me dying soon afterwards.

Does anybody else really not like the M.M Map? The layout looks cool, but I just don't find it that fun, also all the graphics seem blurry on that map and hurt my eyes.

I love M.M. There are so many places for hiding and sneaking around. It feels more like playing a Metal Gear game. The other maps seem too small to me and tend to have bullets flying constantly.

I was in a fantastic sneaking game in M.M. this morning with everyone working on one team vs Snake. Great fun moving around the city as a unit trying to hunt him down.

There's balance issues with the Midtown Madness map. Going down that street is a deathtrap because of low move speeds and snipers, but the only viable alternative is the alleys to the side. Only one of the alleys goes all the way to the other side, and there's a particular 3 story enterable building on that map that's a problem. It has windows only facing that one direction covering the alley. Although the team that starts facing those windows get screwed in the alley, they do have better sniping positions covering the street.

It's all very linear, which can make that map very problematic for Snake.

To push down the street you have to use smoke grenades, which aren't really used that much and I'm not sure if the smoke coverage is enough to prevent sniper hits.

Just wait till you play City Under Siege or whatever they renamed it. That and Brown Town define MGO.

MM is OK but could definitely use more work. I'm not too fond of BB, especially for TDM.

If there's a spot left in the clan I would like to take it. I just got internet back today so I can play starting late tonight. PS3 name is same as CAG name and it's in my profile over

I find the opposite, I feel like I am constantly being killed out of nowhere on M.M. and on the other maps there are actually some good hiding spots.

Hell yea. I loved those two maps. MM reminds me of those a bit.

The one thing I wish though is we had the old sneaking mission, I perfer that over the new one, or have both.

I actually enjoy this game now. I still think they need to rework the skill system and DP system but it's a pretty cool game.

Although, the annoying dudes that seem to ALWAYS get a perfect head shot is frustrating. It's like they don't even look and just get head shots every time. The aiming feels so clunky I don't get how you can 100% get a headshot every time.

Are you still trying to use the first person shooting mode? Just use the third person over the shoulder aiming mode, put the circle around your target's head, and let your weapon's rate of fire do the rest.

I'm still trying to get a 5 headshots in a row award. I have the 3 headshots in a row award already, but the most I've gotten is 4 in a row when I got jumped by 4 guys in rapid succession and managed to kill all of them with very quick headshots.

They definitely need to bring headshots in line with the body damage. Headshots with the SMGs take 2 hit to kill a full health enemy. But the first headshot will stun them making it easier to get the second shot, or just hit the body. Then there's the issue where, since there's no way to heal in the game, most people will be running around low on health.

I wouldn't mind if they made it so that SMGs take 3 headshots and rifles take 2 headshots, but then the stun animation plays for a bit longer if you take a headshot.

Sometimes having rifles take more than 1 headshot to kill a guy ruined MPO for me.

Seriously the health system is messed up. You get in a gun fight and you kill the guy but he manages to get a few shots off at you then you are low on health, and basically all you can do is either hide or die. Or maybe get the jump on someone.

Japanese developers really need to get with the times. Either make a skill that lets you regen over time or an item that lets you patch yourself up, or something at each base that you can go and heal once every 2 minutes.

I dunno something...

And to me Headshots feel like Critical shots. Like sort of in Team Fortress 2 where you'd randomly get a Critical shot. Sometimes I can't even believe I got a headshot and visa versa.

Snake is awesome though, I didn't understand how to play him at first but it's pretty fun once you get the hang of it. You can just hide anywhere and jump people. Although its annoying if you miss your first grab and they turn around and 1 shot you in the head...
