Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!

I was just reading in my new EGM about how when you're reminiscing with someone, you press X to do a flashback mini-game (like the one we saw of Snake at Shadow Moses). Doing these earns you points to spend on weapons/gadgets.
Ummm... they have confirmed this already. If you read EGM's latest coverage of it, it says that all of screens we have seen are just from a short first act called "Liquid Sun", the rest of the game will Snake trying to track down Liquid Ocelot. I think they also confirmed that there will be playable levels in South America somewhere.
The E3 trailer with Snake tracking Liquid Ocelot and Raiden fighting Vamp show off two different places, the Middle East and South America, respectively. I think it was one of the things Ryan Payton mentioned that he was surprised nobody in the media noticed in their reports from E3.
Bleh last day of the Beta(or is that tomorrow?) and almost nobody showed up.
I know.

Shame on you CAG  :)

I forgot today was the last day. This game is weird...when I would play matches, I'd get hooked. but when I sit down to decide what to play, MGO always sounded like a bad idea....?
Eh, I just don't think MGO is very good.
That's cool. I knew the game wasn't going to be for everybody. Hell I hated the original MGO at first and kinda hated this one at first, but it grew on me.

Wow with all of the problems in downloading the beta plus patches and with ATT not hooking up internet in my new place before May 5th, I only got to play this 1 night and like 3 total games.

Oh well it seemed okay but definately not worth it's own seperate game IMO. It should be a fine addition to what should be an outstanding single-player game.

I just finished playing for like 3 hours perfectly

I was going to, but I was too busy playing Tekken. :)

So the reported 1st review is out- 10/10!

Their scans should be up later.

Also they had this on the site:

In an interview, editor Paul Fitzpatrick who reviewed Metal Gear Solid 4 (scoring it a 10/10) for Official Playstation Magazine, UK has told GamesRadar that his final completion time playing Metal Gear Solid 4 is 29:06 (29 Hours, Six minutes). That's an impressive game time considering that's average hours for an RPG.

I hope the game is actually that long and that he didn't just suck.

Took me 18 hours to beat MGS3 the first time, so as long as it's in that range, I'll be extremely happy.

Keep in mind that companies often have embargoes based on review score alone. The higher the review score the sooner they can release their score.

It's also from a magazine owned by Sony. I don't really care though, I know I'm going to

From what I can see, it's owned by Future Publishing, not Sony. If they're anything like the original OPM, they just pay Sony to use the Official label each month with little contact from Sony themselves.

I'm sure Sony would allow them to keep using their name if they shit on all of their games.

They're in their pocket, no matter which way you look at it.

I at at 17 hours on MGS3 right now. I just got the shit beat out of me by Volgin, and have to escape my cell. So I am guessing it will take me about 20. I am curious if cutscene time is counted?

I'll take this time to say: I am not sure if it _is_, but at the moment, I can't think of a game I have played in the last 5 years that I have enjoyed more than MGS3 (v2). The visuals hold up well too. To think I almost missed it, b/c I was xbox180 exclusive last gen... That MGS essentials pack has to be deal of the year for me. I am going to get 35 hours of gameplay for $30! (I didn't bother with MGS1, as I played it back in the day).

I hope that they did not try to change too much in MGS4. MGS3.v2 gameplay is great. Not too sneaky, not too actiony, and no annoying save chick!

Anyway, I fly home to visit family for two weeks the day this launches... I'll have to wait until I get back.. arggh. Oh, well, I'll pick it up without provincial tax, in my swing through AB.

They're definitely in Sony's pocket when they pay Sony for the name of the mag?

No decent mag would shit on all of a company's mag if they weren't actually shit, so your example doesn't really apply here. OPM gave out plenty of bad scores to Sony games when it applied, like any decent publication would do. What publisher would pay for the official name to just badmouth everybody? Of course Sony would be able to pull the license at any time, just like any good company that doesn't want their name dragged through the mud.

The only mag you'd have a point with is Nintendo Power

No, that they focus on a specific set of consoles. Readers are more likely to pay attention to official mags than unofficial mags, especially when things like demo discs are involved.

Regardless, there's a lot of positive buzz about this game outside of actual reviews. I listen to quite a few podcasts and some of them have reviewers that have gone to play, and they all say that MGS4 is quite a good game, it fixes a lot of gameplay issues and does well to answer all the questions that 1-3 raised.

I actually skipped MGS3 since the camouflage system and slow start was a bit annoying. I tried to find the summary DVD, but ended up viewing the story via youtube so I could be up to date as that DVD was near impossible to find.

I think no fans of the series are worried about MGS4 not being a great game.

It's pretty much been accepted as fact since it was announced. :)

My thoughts exactly. A true MGS fan never doubts the work of Kojima...
Umm... Kojima made MGS2's ending. Sorry, but I do doubt. But the good news is that MGS4 seems to have made up for from reviewers opinions.
and...? I really hate how people put down MGS2. MGS2 has to be my favorite due to the plot complexity. No other MGS has ever been as thick in plot twists that actually work together.

It's not a put down so much as criticisms. MGS2 wasn't a flawless game, and anyone who has played MGS1 and likes the series isn't adverse to complex plots.

For example, I liked what Kojima was trying to do, I even liked the Raiden character somewhat. The only problem was that the execution wasn't that great in many areas. He sacrificed impact for more complexity, even going so far as to nearly invalidate everything that was accomplished in MGS1, just to try and tack on an even more unneeded complexity.
