Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!
Is anyone allowed to join the clan? Or are lurkers like me not allowed?
I believe there is a clan limit of 64 people but during the beta we let anyone join. However, I think some people wanted to weed out people that rarely played or never participated in game night.
Its CAG, is ass allowed by Konami?
I think so since that was our name when we played against Konami.

That's understandable. I just wanted to play with a regular group of people. No big deal.

Well, we did beat them with ass in the name during the beta ;) So if not, we should've earned it.

Even if you aren't in the clan, you're more than welcome to join the regular games. We'll probably start password protecting them in the future.

Thanks.

Ah, ok. Since Primetime joined, I see that I can now assign another person as leader and someone to make the emblem.

Once you join Rolento, I'll assign it to you.

I also tried to edit the clan comment to cheap ass gamer and they recognize ass, so no go there.

As a clan name, they accepted CheapAssGamer (no spaces) but comments may have a different rule. I'll join later tonight. I wonder if you can have co-leaders.

On the clan stats page it reads, "The clan's records are currently unavailable. Please wait until an official match is held."

What does official match mean? Does this game support clan matches?

It's just random right now. The game's barely a week old and the clan just got started. I'm guessing Thursdays might be the night MGO night happens. But for right now, I'd say we play every night :)

And yeah, I suck at shooters, but I'm pretty good at this one I'd say. I imagine it'll only get better as I increase my character's skills. Which btw, takes forever in this game and to level up as well.

I dunno, I have knife L3 (I know Rock does too since he slit my throat a few times), running L2, throw L2, CQC L2. Some skills take longer than others.

I've also only played about 90 minutes, and I use Rifle+, Hangun+, Runner and QB (I had Surveyor but that wasn't working so good). But it doesn't even seem like I'm halfway there on any of them.

They level up the more you use them, you have three combat skills (rifle, handgun, grenadier) so your spreading your experience between the three since you can only use one at any given time. I leveled up Knife to L3 by using it exclusively for several hours, and QB I found actually levels up quite fast. I can chuck a grenade extremely far on L2 (and it only takes one slot). Runner takes FOREVER to level up though. I got L3 runner after a week and a half of play in the beta.

Well I'd assume Runner takes the longest to level up as it's the most essential. I've barely used my handgun and it's shown. Maybe if I got rid of it as a spot, I'd get Rifle L2 quicker. But I guess I have to use all 4 slots.

Oh...I see. Only have one skill selected excursively, leave the other 3 slots blank. Then that one will level up quickly? Thats why all of my skills seem to be at the same point in xp. Thanks. Or is this wrong?

Skills only level up as much as you use them. I have auotmatic rifle as one and since I've been using them exclusively, it's about halfway between level 2 and 3 at about 10 hours of gametime.

Kinda sucks that beta stats don't carry over. I suppose that's only fair though. Looking forward to some good games here!

I have rifle as one as well, but thats the only gun I use, i tried smg for a few minutes, but usually rifle all the time, I'm still not at lvl 2.

No no. Tanuki's right. The more you use a skill the more it levels up, but if you're using three different weapon skills equipped, you can only level up one weapon at a given time. Like if you're using the rifle, you can't level up the handgun at the same time. But you could level up rifle, and the auto-lockon distance or super-zoom and running, they all can be leveled up simulatenously. Any skill that is highlighted on the left is "active" but only gets experience if you use it (except for passive skills like sixth sense). If it's darkened, then you have to change to the right equipment to level it up. If you have handgun, rifle, knife and runner equipped, and are currently using a knife, the knife and runner will gain experience while the other two do not. You want to concentrate on one weapon at a time to level it up.

Well I'd assume Runner takes the longest to level up as it's the most essential. I've barely used my handgun and it's shown. Maybe if I got rid of it as a spot, I'd get Rifle L2 quicker. But I guess I have to use all 4 slots.

You don't have to use all four slots I don't think, and you would only level up Rifle faster if you ONLY used rifle all the time. If you don't plan to use handgun, then don't equip it. Equip passive skills that will level up at the same time, like trap-detection or enhanced zoom range.

Note: this is after ~40 hours of gameplay. Results may vary depending on how well you can play the game (and sorry for the bad quality of the pics; was playing on my non-hd tv). Here are some tips for leveling:

- Don't use multiple weapon skills together. Pick a weapon and use it. You'll level up one skill quicker, as opposed to using multiple weapons and leveling them all slowly. For skills like pistol, knife, or CQC, I suggest you look for games with only those type of weapons allowed. Look for games like 'Knifes/CQC/Pistols only'. You'll be on an even playing field. It's frustrating trying to kill people who use automatic/sniper rifles.

- Surveyor and Narc require the use of autoaim. Make sure to turn it on in the options menu. Autoaim can be toggled on or off ingame by pressing square.

- Some skill combos work better together. Scanner + CQC (scan their SOP & then choke them; make sure to equip the scanning plug every time you respawn), Trickster + Sixth Sense (you can place traps faster, and seeing your own traps will level up Sixth Sense as long as you stay near them).

- Two skills don't require any contact with an enemy to level up. For Trickster, your traps don't have to activate or anything. The act of placing them down will level up the skill. For Quarterback, your grenades don't have to hit anything. If the round is about end, spam these support items to level up the skill.

- Skills with + on the end require extra slots at higher levels to equip. Surveyor and Runner don't have the +, but they still require extra slots. All the other skills take up one slot at any level.

- A skill will only level up when you're using the highest level you have. This is not confirmed, but based on my experience, it seems to be true. Example: you have L2 runner unlocked, but you play using L1. The skill won't level up unless you equip L2.

Nice... That helps. You've definitely got me beat on the gameplay time, I',m nowhere near 40 hrs, I'll make sure I only have one weapon equipped also.

Yeah it is frustrating, haha.

Ah, I thought Narc only worked if the enemy auto-aimed you. So it works if you have auto-aim on and they shoot you?

Mine, too. I think that's why when you level up, it has a * next to it letting you know you've reached your maximum increase at this configuration.

What level are you now at Rock?
Yeah it is frustrating, haha.
Yea, I give you a lot of credit espy. I would go insane if I played like you and only used the knife in regular games.

TBH, I really don't know how this skill works. I think that both you and your opponent have to be locked onto each other, but I could be wrong. The only time I remember this skill activating was when you were in that pistols only game with me and we were trading off shots.

What level are you now at Rock?
Level 5. For some reason, it sometimes drops to level 4, even after I have a very good game.

Yeah, my level did that in the beta, as I'd be a level 3 or a level 4 at random times. I'm not sure what factors into that drop and how you counteract it.

Thanks, considering you kill me no matter what you do that means a lot, ha. To me it's the main reason why MGO is so fun. Sometimes I countersnipe, and sometimes I get the rocket if it's a Drebin points game, but nothing beats killing a group of three guys with a knife.

Hmm. I thought you used manual aim because you'd headshot me sometimes.

I was at level four then I dropped to three. I have no idea what the level system is based on.

I applied for the clan. I'd enjoy playing MGO with some other CAGs. I'm not too good at the moment, but hopefully I'll be better after I get through some more matches (just started MGO tonight).

Ill apply to the clan tomorrow. Never knew you had to re-equip the same skill at a higher level. Wish I would have figured it out or read it somewhere sooner.

I finished Act 3 a little while ago, but I'm still a bit confused and maybe I missed this part,
but how did ParaMedic die? I kinda tripped out about Sigent too, I didn't even realized that was him in MGS1

same here... when I heard that, that surprised me the most out of all the info in the entire game

Use that fancy new-fangled MGS4 Database we have now.
I didn't know that she worked on the Les Enfants Terribles Project and worked on turning Gray Fox into Cyborg Ninja, under the alias Dr. Clark, but was killed by Gray Fox when he tried to escape. Also, it seems that Naomi thought she, as Dr. Clark, was a man.

I noticed that the Database keeps track of how many entries you've looked at out of how many total there are, so I'm wondering if there are any secrets to unlock by at least clicking on everything.

Para-Medic is revealed to have been the mysterious "Dr. Clark" that was mentioned in Metal Gear Solid as the previous chief medical officer for FOXHOUND. She was the one who kept Gray Fox alive, made him into the Cyborg Ninja, and ran all of those genome experiments on him. She was killed when Fox escaped from her lab.

Now, there is some controversy about this, because in the American versions of MGS, Dr. Clark is referred to as a "he." Supposedly, in the Japanese version, the gender was never specified. Whatever the case, the database now declares that Dr. Clark was basically a recluse, and her true identity was a mystery, so that is why Naomi mistakenly believes her to be a man.

As for Sigint, there has been speculation since MGS3 that he was Donald Anderson. Besides both being African-American and skilled in technology, the timeline at the end of Snake Eater says that he went on to join ARPA, which was the early designation (and also the designation later on, as well) for DARPA, which he is the chief of by the time of MGS.

EDIT: Beat by a minute.

I haven't had a chance to DL the database. I'd have to update first but completing MGS4 is the #1 priority ;)

Haha yea,
it kinda sucks now how he went out :/. When Big Mama started explaining all that stuff about the Patriots and the original group I was like, no way!.....No Way!.....WTF? NO WAY!!!

Cool, thanks. The story is pretty enthralling so far :D

A bit of interesting info, though it probably is just a coincidence. In MGS3 Para-Medic says her favorite movie is Frankenstein. As we all know Frankenstein is about turning the dead into the living, and it just so happens she did that with someone named Frank...
