Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!

Quick unrelated PS3 question; does it matter what end of an HDMI cable goes into the TV vs the PS3? My cables say they're "male to male," so I assume both ends are identical, but can someone confirm just in case I'm doing it wrong.

The rediculous requirements will push the clan's creation for a bit. We may just work on getting a game night going until then.

Edit: Shouldn't matter which end you use.
Apparently, you have the option to route the codec conversations to a Bluetooth headset. While the rest of the game audio outputs to your main speakers. How cool is that? I guess I should read the rest of the manual lol
Badass, I am going to try this now.

Beat the game just under 15 hours... IMO it is the easiest MGS title to date. I loved every moment and will replay it once (maybe twice) this weekend...!

Just finished. So brilliant. Loved every moment of it, save for maybe the
follow the resistance member part
.

Regarding the end...

I also was kinda surprised that there wasn't any real epic large-scale boss battle at the end. The Mantis fight was pretty fuckin' cool, but I was expecting something a la the Rex fight or the Shagohad fight. Oh well. The street fight with Liquid was awesome anyway.

I have to agree that was only part that sort of sucked, but you have to give them credit for trying something new with the series.

Yeah, I was a little surprised, but I wasn't disappointed, seeing as how we got a pseudo Zone of the Enders face-off between Rex and Ray. I'm glad they didn't introduce a new Metal Gear (well except for Mk. II, but that doesn't count), because then the game would've basically been a "giant robot enemy of the week" type of deal.

I played about 40 minutes of MGO. I really wish they made using the headset easier. NO ONE talks and I can't hear anyone talk. I set it to open mic at the start of every match and nothing. It might be disagreements between people, but still. I should at least hear static or something.

I have 49 points, so I guess I'm 1 point from getting to level 1. I don't know how to level up my skills though. I guess it just sorta happens. I hope I don't have to play 20 hours to join a clan though. I may not make it.

does anybody know how to check current game stats (kills/alerts/etc) in the game, besides at the end of an act or during mission briefing?

Question for those who've beaten the game:
That hallway of death part. Is it scripted? Can you actually die in that part? Is there a way to do it without turning into a button masher?

EDIT: Not to be a jackass or anything, but are MGS4 save files profile protected?

I have a mic, people talk, just varies. But it is hard to setup, I tried using it but I couldn't ever get it to work most of the time, like my mic was on but it didn't register anything I said, or maybe I kept turning it on and off or something, no clue. People said you have to press select which I did but nothing, than I tried holding it and it would turn the mic on and off I think. Real pain when the MGO is suppose to be team based so you don't get your ass handed to you cause you couldn't communicate.

Leveling up skills just umm sorta happen, I think it levels up based on your usage of that skill, like say you have fast movement, that will just level by itself, while if you have Sniper or Knife, you would need to keep using that to level it up, so it's pointless if you have a skill taking up a slot you don't use.

You just hold select for a second and it should say the mic is on on-screen.

Higher level skills take up more slots, so you have to find a balance between what skills work best for you.

To reach Level 1, you need 250 points. 500 points for level 2.

Oh that's right... there's an online mode too... maybe I'll play it at some point.

I forget, was Kojima planning to release a separate MGO with MGS4's online mode serving as a teaser, or is MGS4's online mode all there is?

What's in MGS4 is the MGO Starter Pack, meaning that at some point in the future, Konami could take all of the expansions and DLC and release a full version of MGO. There's just no guarantee that it's going to happen.

I have a feeling that at some point in the future MGO will be released on 360 with the DLC being released over Konami's servers for PS3.
Oh fucking great! I had to take a piss, so I pressed start during a codec call to pause it and it skipped the damn thing. fuck! I haven't saved it in over an hour and when I killed myself it loaded back after the codec call.

fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck!

fuck it, I guess I am going to start Act 2 all over again. This better be a fucking amazing codec call fucking bullshit!....$(&!@*(^$!(&*^@#$!@*(^&!)!!!!!!!!!!!!
I HATE WHEN THIS SHIT HAPPENS!!!!!! :bomb:

Holy shit, man. I just spend 20 mins setting up my shaq-fu'in KONAMI/GAME IDS! What a load of CRAP!!!!

starting act 3 right now.

i have a question for the bosses, do u get anything special if u stamina kill? i just blew up the bosses with the m4.
I just picked up a
action figure and it said sunny would like it...
what does it do?
You get once if you stamina kill each boss, the FROGs in Act 1 and the B&B soldiers in the other acts. Supposedly, getting all 5 of them gives you a "special weapon" in subsequent playthroughs. I only just finished Act 5, but I missed the Act 1 figure and didn't know where to look for Act 2's, so I'm not on track for it this time.

cool. thx.

i found this and took a pic (I love the camera... being able to upload my stuff online from in game is so easy). some of you may have stumbled upon it in
the naomi hunt of part 2... it's a slab with the hands markings and autographs of some of the kojima staff... look for when the footprints turn into hand prints:

I'm thinking of starting a pic thread for people to post some cool pics.

Yeah I remember people talking about it when the beta came out. I was thinking oh they probably fixed it by now. Nope. Then to top it off, the restrictions on account names and passwords are stupid.
Damn you guys are finishing it fast.
And they're missing out on all the good stuff for doing it. Probably skipping the cut scenes, which for the first time through is the single most stupid thing you could do with MGS-- any game.

I mean, what's the point if you're just out to be first? Because that sure as hell would not impress me at all.

I did not skip any cutscenes or codec sequences and still got in just around 14 hours... I just wanted to play through the game and see the story, that was my initial goal. The game was just easy/straightforward for me... ;/

Replaying it will be fun times though.
I watched every cutscene and saw a bunch of stuff and did just about every codec conversation.
same here... finished quick but took time for every cutscene, codec call, even made a few calls myself. lingered in a few places, etc.

on a side note, looks like I won't get a clean run this time around... i guess I'll work on unlocking some of the things I missed as well as go for certain titles.

Random Easter Eggs and items I ran into:
Mission Briefings:
I've been scouring the Nomad when I should've been watching the cut scenes, and so far I've managed to get 4 batteries, a couple of tunes, and I think a camera.

Act 1:
When your inside the militia base, theres a locker and if opened, you get a militia disguise that will make sneaking inside easier.

Act 2
I completely forgot already but if this is the mission where you first enter South America, I know theres a militia disguise for the area as well.

Act 4:
Midst the fight of Crying Wolf at Shadow Moses, while I was waiting for my stamina to go back up, I noticed a body at a tower (while using NV via Solid Eye)that's been there but I don't recall killing a FROG there. I go towards the body, and the body
had long hair, and was in a sniping position..Sniper Wolf? When I unequipped the Solid Eye, no physical body was there!

BOSSES (look here if you're interested on what occurs when tranqing):
As far as I know, when the bosses are suited up you can go guns blazing but when they are in human form, thats when you tranq. So far, all I've gotten from it is their face camo, and at times their weapons. Oh and if you happen to have your camera
and take a picture of the bosses in their human form, they strike a pose.

Also FWIW, if you plan on tranqing use the non lethal shotgun shells rather than the tranq pistol, seemed a little easier. I hope that doesn't spoil anything.
Oh and, hidden L1 first person views from Snake. Look out for those.

thanks for answering my question about stamina kills...

lol i played the first boss fight
i had the volume on full blast and when laughing octopus jumps through the windows it scared the crap outta me a few times.

now on act 3 :D

An easier way to do the boss tranqing, though I haven't tried that myself, is to use the stun knife to knock out their psyche. It usually takes about 5 or so hits.

I picked up my MGS4: LE from GS today. There seems to be a layer of laminate or plastic over the metal artwork sheet on the game box, and it seems to peel off slightly near some edges. Is it a protector cover or something that is supposed to be removed?

Spoiler about the bosses in general, viewable after the first boss fight:
After you get the beauty out of her armor, if you hold off on killing/tranquilizing a B&B boss for a while eventually you'll get to a segment where she automatically grabs you and transports you into an all white area with sounds of pleasure in the background.

It didn't seem to change the fight at first, but then when I took out the camera the beauty started striking poses. It was weird, but cool easter egg.

I love the first boss fight.

I laughed pretty hard after she transformed into the MK2 and lead me into a trap. I did not see that coming at all

also if you lie on the bed face up when she takes her armor off she'll jump on you and cuddle.

The other day I was playing Warhawk and there were three of us that were chatting up all sorts of strategies. While certainly nowhere near the norm, as you've pointed out, it made the game twice as enjoyable.
starting act 3 right now.

I've stamina killed the first two bosses
in both forms (armored and post-armored). On Octopus, I got the Face Camo and the Octocamo mask. I also ended up fighting her a total of three times - once in armor, once out, and once where we appeared to be in a very large white room. On Raven, I got the Face Camo and the grenade launcher. There were only two phases of this fight, armored and not.

By
cuddle, do you mean strangle? Something to try for the next play through! I did get a kick out of her transforming into the Mk II, which I promptly shot. She also did a Naomi impression and layed on the floor pretending to be injured.

it be alot easier if there was mic that came with the ps3

I have a quick question. I have this reserved and have not picked it up yet. I didn't really enjoy the Twin Snakes and I played 20 minutes of MGS2 and thought it was lame.

Is MGS4 any different from these or is it the same basic formula?
