Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!
I oddly like how you can check your receipt with debrin.

question... how the hell do you get the
beast girls to pose on camera? I whip out my camera everytime to take pics and shoot and they never pose... ???

ie. like this:
Buy them a drink and then tell them you are a photographer.

Maybe I'm the only MGS fan that was disappointed by the game?

There just isn't much game! It's cutscene after cutscene once you get past Act 3!

I beat the game last night, and I love it for the story. But if you want to talk purely about gameplay, there was little game, and I found fighting the PMC's awkward. Once you fire at the them, while there's a whole militia taking them on, they start and alert and put all of their firepower on you. Weird.

I think
You just don't kill them for a few minutes when they are out of their suits and then stuff will happen and you can do it

in terms of playability, MGS3 had the most gameplay and perfect balance of cutscenes. MGS4 had alot to resolve so it makes sense there's alot of story.

The game shines mostly in acts 1-3, and then goes cutscene crazy in 4-5, but then that's not entirely a bad thing.

Well...
I'm sure Liquid wants you dead, so the PMC's number 1 priority is to get rid of you. That's how I interpret it.
I was kind of dissapointed by that. They could have taken it another way:

By saying that the reason why Ocelot was able to absorb the soul of deceased Liquid is because he is the son of The Boss and The Sorrow (who was also able to communicate with the dead). I would've figured since Kojima likes deep storylines, that would've been pretty good. Explaining it with hypnosis and nanomachines seems really weak to me.
Maybe I misunderstood, but
it sounded to me like it was a combination of the two. Ocelot was the most likely candidate because of his heritage, but had to take it a bit further. I felt that, in the end, he was really giving it everything and that is what I admired. Rather than just allowing himself to be possessed by Liquid, he actually became Liquid.

As for the photography,
Wait three minutes before dispatching the BB Corps member after they leave their armor. That is when you will be in a large white room with them and when you can take pictures. They will also dance if you put certain songs on your ipod. Watch out though, wait another three minutes and they die.

If you're going after the
action figures
to get the
Boktai
gun, I hear you have to find the
figure before the room turns white, or it's gone for good.

I guess that works, but even when you're in disguise they're shooting you.

I agree with you completely. There just what a lot to wrap up. But, I wouldn't have mind some more sneaking time. I'm giving it a second play through, so I guess I like it enough.

Did anyone else (act 5 spoilers)
try switching the controller port via the PS menu during the mantis fight? Thats was the first thing I tried. I found Otacon's message quite humorous.

That was awesome. Also,
you can call Rose and the second time Campbell starts carrying on that you should destroy the bust of Mantis and Snake complains that there isn't one.

Yay for fan service!

Same here,
After I did that, my cousin asked me what the heck I was doing. He never played the first MGS so I dont blame him on that

Agh damn it. I am going through act one without killing anyone but when I beat act one it said I killed two people. What the hell?! I didn't kill anyone.

just beat the game. 16 hrs

major spoilers...
screaming mantis was easier then i thought.... but dam i thought snaked died, i got confused when big boss came out lol dam is there gonna be MGs5?
MGS4 Spoilers below, do not read unless you beat the game...

You know who is a REAL patriot?

Revolver Ocelot. He is the man. There was never a "Liquid Ocelot" at all. He used it all as a guise to get rid of the Patriots AI. He is the true patriot and was the real good guy when all was said and done.
I dunno... they said that Ocelot underwent psycho therapy and all that and liquid basically took over... how is that not being "Liquid Ocelot?

I have always been blown away by how Kojima is able to a) offer up fan-service and b) break down the fourth wall...and rarely come off corny or hokey in the process.
Beat the game last night...

I was kind of disappointed with Raiden's ending. As much as I like Raiden as a character, I think it would've been better for him to die blocking the ship. It seemed kind of cheap to make it all emotional with him calling out to Rose, and the voiceover of Rose talking about how they met, only to have him come back, armless, and eventually get his human body back and everythings all perfect again with Rose. Happy go lucky BS if you ask me...

I would have changed the ending. I think it would've been better to just cut Big Daddy & Zero out of the end, move all of the 'wedding' scenes near the beginging of the epilogue, and end it with snake in the graveyard, puts the gun in his mouth, eyes close, fade to black, bang, credits.

Either way, definately a good ending for an epic storyline. Kind of sad to think its over, but hey, maybe we'll get some spinoff games (cmon "Metal Gear Raiden")
Except that would have been just boring and predictable.
Except that would have been just boring and predictable.
Indeed.

After the trailers and pre-release speculation, including the confirmation that this would be the last game with Snake as the main character, it was pretty much a given in many circles that Snake wouldn't live past this game...whether he killed himself or just died. Then, after Naomi told him that he would basically become a walking biological weapon in a few months, I think everyone was like, "Oh well, he's going to kill himself, obviously."

The beginning of that scene drops two massive bombs in a matter of less than a minute. First, Snake didn't shoot himself...and then FREAKING Big Boss is standing there. I also enjoyed so many of the moments in that long scene, including when BB calls Snake "son" and suggests that if Snake had been in his shoes, he wouldn't have make the same mistakes.
How in the world do you guys sneak without getting kills/or alerts?
No kills is the easy part.

No alerts requires patience.

Liquid's consciousness never took over Ocelot. It was all an act/something Ocelot planned on/wanted. In the MGS4 guide there is a big section explaining the story/spoilers/end game stuff.

So out of context, he's not the Liquid Ocelot we've come to know (Liquid taking over Ocelot's conciousness), instead it is Ocelot acting as liquid just to get close to the patriots AI(which I never saw coming).

You're pretty much right about what he says later, but it was along the lines of "I never considered you a son." Also, at the very beginning of the scene, when Big Boss first appears, right after the two engage in a little CQC, Snake falls into BB's arms, and BB says "Let it go, my son."
Hmm...I don't remember it at all.
It's track 15 on the LE CD. It's another excellent rendition, of course. The title on the 2 CD set is Metal Gear Saga.

You know when you are in act 5 fighting
Ocelot and they play Snake Eater?

Is the Snake Eater song in the game for the iPod?

Yep, but to unlock it seems tough:

Unlocked by earning all 40 game clear emblems

Ugh, you just crushed my hopes and dreams.

That song is so awesome but all emblems come on now. I was hoping it was hidden in a corner somewhere.

I think as for story, MGS3 still has my heart. But I loved MGS4 in how it wrapped everything up in a nice little package. I just wish the game had a cut scene viewer so I could go back and watch the important ones - it's too much to digest in just one go. For me, at least.

However, gameplay wise, MGS4 is more than top-notch. It's got to be one of the best games I've played in years when it comes to gameplay. I was blown away by the presentation and how each Act is executed. It's awesome.

As for the ending:
Can someone tell me why and where Big Boss woke up when Naomi and Sunny's worm destroyed the Patriots AI's? I remember him saying something about how the Patriots had kept him in a state of perpetual sleep, but I wasn't sure where or why he was being held.

Also, does anyone else think Solidus is a tragic character on par with Caesar or something? The guy sees all of what happens in MGS4 coming, tries to stop it, and is supposedly killed by a Patriot pawn. Then in MGS4, he's still kept alive in a bag and a life support system (and no skin, at that). God, that's got to be an awful life.

I just finished this game tonight. It is absolutely the most stunning video game ever! It brought me tears man.

Sad to see this game finally end.

Yeah man I had tears in my eyes when
Snake is struggling through the microwave hallway and when the game fools you into thinking Snake took his own life. I was so pissed, I was like "What the hell! You commited suicide, that's not the Snake I know. What the fuck?"
I actually teared up
when otacon told sunny that snake had gone away... I really believed snake killed himself and it made me depressed
Oh yeah same here.

Snake has got to be the greatest video game character of all time.

I finished it tonight after 20 hours of playing. Probably more hours since I watched the cut scenes, then alerted enemies, then had to restart and skip the cut scenes. This game is epic. Everything I ever hoped for in the game was there. I really don't see how anything will top this for a long, long time. I am going to go back through a second time starting tomorrow trying to get no kills and no alerts.

My little sister was watching me play and she cried at that part
The hallway I mean
. Also she didn't see that
after the credits it shows that Snake didn't do it and today she asked me if I miss Snake

Haha, I was thinking of a little less innuendo when I was thinking about how bad ass Revolver Ocelot was.

ill answer ya... major spoilers
big boss woke up because naomi and ocelot took body parts from solidus and liquids body and reconstructed it. Major zero kept big boss alive and he was trapped by the patriots AI system. He was rescued i forget by who and they rebuilt his body. The Patriots AI system was destroyed supposedly when otacon hacked that room filed with tomb stone looking things after the microwave oven part. the FOXALIVE destroyed the entire system but left things necessary for modern civilization to keep going, like u said solidus's body was destroyed in europe, hope that answers ur questions
