Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!
You can probably play the games in any order honestly... sure, all the stories are related but they can stand on their own just fine.

But after you beat all 4, make sure to download the MGS Database from the PSN. It's like an MGS encyclopedia.
No, definitely don't play them in any random order. The only question is 3 1 2 4 or 1 2 3 4 and I was trying to convince you to play 1 2 3 4 and I think it is best. Read what happens in MG1 and MG2, you will hear plenty about it over the games anyway. I think you should play 1 2 3 4 as I think about it more. I just rebeat MGS4 again last night :), btw.
So what ever happened to them "looking into" a trophy patch?
Yeah I wondered that too. Hard to imagine that one of the top exclusive games on the PS3 doesn't support what is now a standard item for almost every game. Lame.
Thats what I will do then, two people saying it is good enough for me (I was leaning that way anyway)

Thanks for the input.
I played 1, 2, 3, Portable Ops, then 4.

Ac!d isn't in the canon for the series, so you can skip those. The Portable Ops story takes place a few years after 3. Nothing big happens there, just a few minor story points.

Check this out !!!

*Update* Apparently this is A coin-op arcade game :( I was excited that this was for home use :( :(

Metal Gear Arcade, which has been sneaking under the radar since its unveiling last June, is playable at Japan's AOU Expo this week. To mark the occasion, Konami has released a new trailer and two new screenshots of the Metal Gear Online–based arcade cabinet. The trailer is available on the game's website.

Konami has also provided a first look at the 3D glasses used to enable the game's "Integral Vision" effect. It's going to be totally worth putting on those goofy glasses, even after some sweaty guy just used them: not only do they create a 3D effect, the glasses also enable head-tracking. Where you look, Snake looks. To further immerse you in the experience, Metal Gear Arcade also has a mic for voice chat and a giant speaker system surrounding your head. !.

Yet another reason why I bemoan the death of American arcades.
I'm biased because I literally have completed each game like over 10 times each, at least. Just ran through MGS1 a few days ago. I want to say just play them in the order they were released, because things that get revealed in the sequels won't mean much to you in 3, and there are quite a few things revealed then. 3 is pretty confusing as it is.
I think it's interesting that you say that. I actually found 3 to almost be the least confusing story (1 holds that title). 2 was certainly the most convoluted and therefore the most confusing, while 4 is fairly confusing, but not as bad as 2. Some day I'm going to go back and play them in chronological order and probably get someone to play through the 3rd mission for me in MGS4. That had to be one of the worst missions in the MGS series yet.

3 is the least confusing, it's only confusing if you played 2 and go wait, wtf... this doesn't explain anything from 2 that I wanted answers to. MGS3 and 1 are the best ones that can be played by themselves. MGS4 was just long and boring. Though yea if you do play you should probably play it in the order of released along with MG1 and 2 and Portable Ops.

I could write a book about why it sucks that there are no arcades left.

How 'bout a trophy patch?! What the hell?!

Konami will be shutting down MGO on June 12, which is the fourth anniversary of MGS4's release. The MGO Shop will be shut down on 3/21 and registration of new characters will end on 4/28. The DLC will be made available for free on 4/28. I'll have to get back into this before it's over like I did for the original MGO.
Well that sucks. Another reason why online gaming is not a big sell for me.

Will leave this here in memory of MGO. CAG vs Konami when they released the beta of MGO. IIRC, the final score was CAG won 3 rounds and Konami won 1 round
Just a reminder that this is happening tomorrow and from what I can tell, it goes down at about 11 AM EST/8 AM PST.
Oh boy, I thought I had another week :| Need to log on tonight.

You know I wish there was bots in this game for some offline gaming like Timesplitters.

I tried Metal Gear Online about a few months ago, but was killed off by higher level players too many times.

It would be cool as a going away gift, Konami gave us all the maps to download as an expansion to Metal Solid IV with the option to play against bots and system links.

*salute*

Played a bit and I'll do the same in the morning. It's still pretty fun and they've added a lot of stuff since the last time I played. The expansion maps are mixed in with the originals, all of the extra clothes are free now, and they've added new songs from Peace Walker and maybe other KP games. It's a shame to see the game be shut down, as it's one of my favorites of the generation.

Here are a couple of pictures of the crazier items and clothes that you can wear:

It wasn't a bad online game but it got to a point where you had to get destroyed from hours on end before you got anywhere because the learning curve was high and upper level players had all the best stuff.

I tried playing it again a while ago as well, got destroyed over and over and just gave up on it for good. It would have been better if newer players didn't have to go through a hundred negative games to get any gear that kills without having to reload the clip two times.
http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/11/report-metal-gear-solid-4-finally-getting-trophies/

Seems that trophies may be happening again, though I'll continue to doubt it until it actually happens.
Thanks for the link. And from the link, they did said that Konami has confirmed that trophy will be coming. It kind of make sense though. Because without Metal Gear Online, they need some way to "lure" the player into wanting to play the game for longer period of time than just finish the game and done with it.

Either way, thanks for the info and will have to see if they actually see it through. Wonder what else the "budget" version will offer other than trophy support.
I still haven't played this... the long cut scenes would drive me nuts.
I'm not kidding when I say that the final cutscene is like an hour long, AT LEAST. If I recall it was almost two hours, but I could be a bit off on that. It doesn't help that while you're watching the entire cutscene, none of it makes sense either.

OK, that seals it for me. Even if that final cut scene is 2 hours of hardcore porn I'm never playing this.

The way that final after the credits scene was shown was epic though.

It made sense to me at the time, if I watched it right now it probably wouldn't, I'd need to replay to refresh my memory

Just play through the game filled with little cutscenes (that make sense) and let the game play that movie at the end. Trophies + enjoying the game!

I wonder what the trophies are, has there been a list yet. My google search has not come up with any details.

Wonder if people that did just about everything in the game, will have to redo it to get the trophies, hopefully not, but I dunno how they would implant a system where it can check.

I actually did get Big Boss emblem way back when it first came out. Not my first playthrough, but still, it's an accomplishment.

Getting ALL the emblems...that's somethign I never did. Apparently we need to do that to get platinum....urgh.
For once, letting a game sit in my backlog for entirely too long turned out to be beneficial.
 lol, More to me is the ability to install it in one go, instead of having to wait for each install (3-4 times during the game if I remember correctly) so that's something that's nice, wonder what the full install is going to be size wise. If the 52GB Bluray is stuffed (I know there are a lot of HD "commercials" on the disc) I'd guess the game is somewhere in the 20-30Gb realm?
The trophy patch is coming within 24 hours, at least in Japan (not sure about when the U.S. is getting it yet-- might be the same time, might be not).

lol at the thread title

which would more realistically be
Actually, read it somewhere that the patch is live for Japan version already. Not sure how much of it is true since I do not have Japan version.

Oh shit! I didn't realize it was coming this soon! Need to find a cheap copy of MGS Collection ASAP to do a series playthrough. Have a couple days to track one down while I play Twin Snakes at least :D

Also, protip: Don't have your txt alert be the "!" alert sound. I kept spazzing out thinking I was getting detected while playing Peace Walker, haha.
