Metroid: Other M - The CAG Thread
It might be a stupid way to introduce powers (I had no problem with it, even the infamous one because it's not that tough of a section), but they have the decency to explain it, unlike some things. Although for Power Bombs
he could've just said 'They'll fucking kill us if you use one'

Honestly, the next Metroid game should just have her start out with no powers and when reporters stupidly ask what the explanation is they could just say 'why do we need to?'
The powers thing could be explained in a number of ways though- like, the magnetic field of the planet has deactivated your suits abilities, and as you progress you are able to modify it to work in that planet's atmosphere. Outside of this game, it seems like she always gets her suit or ship busted up and loses her parts. If i were in her boat, I would retreat back to my base and grab another suit out of my closet and get back to business.

But if they do that, they get into a bunch of other issues as well. I'd rather them leave the stupid Symphony of the Night introduced mechanic at the door for once.

I have 2 ideas.

Start the game with everything and get brand new items as you progress. Or start the game with everything but lose powers as you progress.

The authorization thing is just a game mechanic. I don't see what the big deal is. Often times any effort to make the "story" make sense in a video game ends up making the game worse. The focus has to be on the game IMHO. Otherwise you might as well watch a movie or read a book instead.

Finally beat the game today.
The final boss seemed a hell of a lot easier than it should have been. But I haven't finished the epilogue yet as I'm in the middle of collecting everything.
Fun game though. I do like the MP games better though.

So is there anything else to unlock aside from hard mode? And do you get anything for beating hard mode?

You get Gallery stuff for getting 100% items and doing
The Epilogue

You don't get anything for beating Hard Mode.

I take what I said back about this game being easy. :) Obviously I hadn't gotten as far into Sector 1 as I thought. I played some more tonight, until I was done being (newly) punished, but in a good way. So I don't take what I said back about the game being fun - I'm really enjoying it.

I'm at
those worm bastards in sector 1. Having just finished up with those robot bastards. Not to mention the invisible dinosaur-ish bastard before that. And lets not forget the monster in the shaft that you had to hit on the head with the ceiling - took me a while to figure that out. The game sure keeps it coming! I managed to finish one of the worms off, but haven't yet managed the second. Also finally figured out what that push the dpad toward a downed foe thing meant.

So I'm trying a low % run of it right now and I've died a couple of times. Playing it this way sorta goes against the point of how its' setup. Minimal pick-ups isn't fun, but it's still pretty manageable.

I got 100% in Prime, Corruption, Other M and Super. I didn't do it in Zero Mission because some are really hard, and if you do the final boss becomes twice as strong (of course you could get the last item afterwards). I didn't do it in Fusion or Echoes because I don't like those games that much.

I tried looking through one door but couldn't line myself up right. I quit since I want to save stuff to do tomorrow.

BTW, I ordered one of these from Monoprice
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10830&cs_id=1083001&p_id=5658&seq=1&format=2

My thumb was hurting a bit after playing awhile and I needed some other things from Monoprice. I'll let you guys know if it's any good.

Interesting. Do post some feedback when you get it. The tiny d-pad is getting on my nerves.
I put up a video on YouTube if anyone is interested.

It sounds like you would've preferred to just carve out a bigger hole and put a CC d-pad in there.

I've been thinking about some of the story elements to this game, and a couple of them sort of jump out to me: (End Game Spoilers ahead)

#1 - The baby Metroid that Samus saved at the end of Metroid 2 was probably destined to be a Queen Metroid. I can't really back this up with anything other than that Metroid was pretty well protected.

#2 - This is a pretty big one that doesn't seem to come across all that well, but I put some pieces together and it seems to me that it's Samus' fault that Adam dies. When she meets MB for a second time, she discusses the project, and Adam's name comes up. Afterwards, Samus thinks about the deleter coming for Adam, picturing in her mind a gunshot and Adam's earpiece coming off. We know from the epilogue that this isn't the case, and it was most likely a misleading cutscene (the earlier one) because she plays back those same events in her mind again, but this time hears Adam crying out to her to not go to Sector 0, but she ignores Adam anyway, forcing Adam to try and stop her. The rest, as we say, is history. Adam dies, Samus lives, etc. Why does she ignore Adam? I don't really know, but it's clear that she feels pretty guilty about it afterwards. For all the following orders she did, not following one order cost the life of someone she knew and respected.

Am I wrong? I might be, but damn if Nintendo games aren't secretly dark as hell.

Getting really frustrated with this game, in less than six hours played I have spent over an hour and a half stuck not knowing what to do. I didn't spend this much time lost in prime 1/2 and they weren't nearly as linear as this game is. I think I might be about done with this.

Shame, because aside from the first spot where I couldn't figure out what to do for around an hour, and this spot that I spent a half hour trying to figure out before giving up I was really enjoying the game.

I was fine with the small d-pad. I don't have the skill to put a CC d-pad in a Wiimote, so spending the $2.50 was more convenient. I think someone on NeoGaf put a CC d-pad in it though.
What are you stuck at? Perhaps I can be of some assistance.
I found a vent that I missed last night, it's always something stupid like that. But if you are curious where I was.

Right after the first Gigafraug, (Sector 2, enemy with the armored head that you need to hit in the head with a missile before you can kill him) in the corridor with the super missle door.c

I got stuck there myself on my first playthrough. I think that's the last time I got stuck in that game outside of a boss strategy I didn't know.

Cool, hoping I can wrap this up before Reach comes Tuesday, getting stuck again would hurt those chances.

If you need help, you can just send me a PM. I'd say after that point you passed the 50% mark in the game, not counting
the Epilogue.

Finished it the other night. Got the full 100%. Great game that is only marred by the system it is on. i.e. controls and graphics.

I had to look up where to go in the Epilogue. I couldn't find that power bomb door in the long corridor. I probably passed it a half dozen times. Speaking of, why does Samus
lose her suit in the Epilogue? Did I miss something? Or was it just a reason to show Zero Suit Samus' goods?

Samus has to concentrate to "activate her suit" so when the countdown started, she probably just thought "Aw fuck" and just bolted for her ship.

I also posted the link to my video review of that accessory to use the D-pad like an analog stick. As I said in my video, I found it more tedious to use that than the d-pad but you might like it more than me since I had no problems with the d-pad to begin with.

Well, she probably thought that if she held it in one hand with her suit on, she'd crush it or something. Does it really matter why she took her suit off intentionally there? I kinda think it would've worked a little bit in the Ridley fight as well.

I started playing Other M two nights ago. Not really all that far in (I'm still only at one of the first few bosses) but I think the game is pretty good. For some reason, and I'm hoping it was just the batteries in my Wii Remote dying, I am having trouble switching to and from first person mode in the current boss battle.

Aside from that, I like the game so far. It's challenging, but not super difficult.

I think that icon was flashing the entire time I played Other M. I secretly expect them to have an 'ignore Wiimote battery icon' feature and put it up on the Shop Channel for 500 points.
I'd buy it

A couple of tips for switching to first-person for combat: Always try and hold B. It will do 2 things: Give you 2 seconds of slowdown so you can adjust, and allow for a quick lock-on.

same here. My Wiimote was telling me I had 4 bars, the Wii was telling me I had 3, and Metroid was telling me I was about to die.. It was confusing.

Anyone else facepalm at
Samus calling the traitor a "Deleter"? I hope it was a literal Japanese translation because it's really cheesy otherwise.

Also, how far am I?
Just learned the truth about MB, the Metroids, and left Madeline to die.

I did like the
"Any objections, Adam?"
part.

Oh, and I broke my promise to stay out of the thread. Glad that the mind-control isn't real though.

Part 1:
I didn't facepalm. I was like '...what?' Also, someone should tell me what "heart" means to a Japanese person, because here it means love, and is a sign of weakness. I'm sure it's different over there. The translation is so very literal.

Part 2:
Uh...75-80% I guess. A couple of cool boss fights upcoming, and one not so cool one. If you figure out which one it is, I'll give you nothing!
You're probably about to enter the second best part of the game, too.

I started another playthrough and am getting the power-ups I usually went past early on. I already have 36 missiles and I finished the game with 38 (before the epilogue). It's such a satisfying feeling.

I'm currently planning my 100% run route by looking at my 3% save file run (the minimum item % you can have and beat the game).

Interesting note about the ending
You get different messages from Samus depending on your item %, but 3% doesn't give you anything, so I imagine it starts at 50% or so)

EDIT:
I think it would've been cool if
during the Ridley fight, instead of gaining your suit back immediately during the cutscene, you'd have to play as ZSS to stun him long enough so you could "Concentrate" your suit back on.

Ok, so I'm near the end I think, and this boss is SUPER annoying.
The big one that shoots out the 6 Metroids. Trying to shoot missiles at the ones that freeze is near impossible to do without another one jumping me. Is this the end? Should I just youtube the ending?
I don't mind just giving up, as I really didn't enjoy this game as much as the Prime trilogy, or even the classic Metroids, it just lacks the atmosphere.

Okay, here's what you do, because YOU'RE REALLY CLOSE to the ending
When a Metroid comes at you, Sense Move and fire a Charge Shot. If they're bunched up you should get 2-3. Wait for another to attack then do it again, when they're all frozen, or mostly frozen, go into first person and missile them. 3 = kill. If you die, you can restart which will allow you to work faster

Whoever directed the cutscenes in this game deserves a freaking medal as far as I'm concerned. That guy knew what he was doing.

Also, according to the IGN podcast, Other M was going to be 2D until Team Ninja's design for a 3D game impressed him.

Zero Suit Samus is so hot.

Adam :(

Couple item questions:

In Sector 2, there's a room where you morph ball through a hole, wall-jump up, then fall and go through the door. There's a vent to go back the way you came, but another morph ball vent which I can't access. There's also an item there.

In Sector 1, the circular room with the broken glass at the top has a grapple beam hook but no way to reach it.

I have every item except the Power Bomb if that helps.

Also, Adam. :(

Sector 1 item: Grapple Beam up there and jump up to the right. The Sector 2 one I can't think of where you're talking about. It might require Power Bombs though. You can't get 100% item collection until you beat the game.

Maybe it's because I had no preconceived notions of what a Metroid game should be (other then a brief bad experience with one of the GBA games), but so far I like this game a whole heck of a lot. I do have a question:

Does this game cover anything outside of "Section 1"? Or was it "A"? I know I'm slow to progress in games, so maybe I'm just not that far, but would like some idea of how far along I am. I most recently got to the part where you're underwater.

Played a bit more Other M last night, and I must say, it's gotten more difficult for me. I still am having issues where my Wii Remote doesn't seem to register the movement from horizontal to being pointed at the screen, which can make firing missiles in boss battles (and all of them seem to require firing a bunch of missiles, don't they?) rather difficult.

2 Questions for those farther along:
1.
What was the point of the development of bioweapons?

2.
Is it just a coincidence that the Galactic Federation Army's person that hates to use anything other than it's intended purpose (Adam) was the one who was investigating the situation at the ship?

Without ruining the story, of course. I'm curious and trying to figure out why specifically it's Adam there as the sort of "head" person investigating the ship, because it seems pretty intentional that the person who is anti-bioweapons is the one finding out why the bioweapons went awry.

Thanks. I have to say, this game might possibly be one of my personal favorites that I've played somewhat extensively lately. It's enjoyable, kinda creepy, and definitely can pack a punch in the realm of difficulty.

It sucks that you're starting to have issues. I'd suggest trying to move your sensor bar around a little bit and sit in a save room switching between views to check it out.

1
Oh, you'll see

2
That information is not for an outsider

Eh, so far the problem hasn't caused me to die on a boss, so I'm not that concerned with it, but if it gets too bad I'll be disappointed.
As of now it's just a minor annoyance, that's probably due to the positioning of the Wii/TV/Sensor Bar/Wii Remote not being that great. I can't really help that though.

As for the questions, I sorta figured as much. I just found that second one curious.

For that second one, I decided to look at that section once again in Theater Mode and I think my mind might have been blown just a tiny bit or I'm REALLY overthinking it
Adam' philosphy is that all lives should be played out naturally, but if lives aren't, he's against that/those things living. So isn't he against Samus then? She's kind of like a bioweapon since she infused with Chozo DNA as a child, given superhuman abilities and a power suit to match.

I got 100%. Awesome game. I loved it. Not quite Galaxy 2- but great anyway.

Question about the title. Metroid: Other M... stands for...?

Metroid: Other Mother (brain)?
Metroid: Other Madeline?
Metroid: Other Metroids?

So I beat the game.

Agree that the ending was anticlimactic: after fighting a useless battle against those creatures with no concentration my brother had the sense to tell me to target Madeline. "Uh, look behind me? Oh, you mean Melissa!" Scan, game ends. I wanted a rematch with Ridley (the Queen killed him?) and the battle against the Queen was pretty easy once I got past the Metroids.

Nice cutscene at the end (Samus looks better with her hair down) and I liked how they let me play it again to grab everything. Though now I'm having trouble against that creature I was fighting at the end. :(
