MLB 09: The Show CAG League - WEEK 7 STANDINGS! READ POST #1065!!!
I don't know, that is why I asked. I'll see if it works later!

I looked in the manual, I didn't see in there. What page would that be on?
Well, this is off the top of my head, and going on my prior "The Show" experience, but I think square changes batting order and triangle changes position. Using X just allows you to substitute from the bench. In an attempt at coincidental humor here, what is it with people's subconscious desire to not use the square button in this game? Do you guys never throw to 3rd base? lol

As for the camera angle. I've pretty much always used behind the plate for pitching and batting. I think I used the behind the pitcher angle in MLB2K7, but wasn't really fond of it because it made the switch to the fielding cam more disorienting. It looks nice, but being dumped upside down all of a sudden bothered me in terms of gameplay.

Thanks n8, but none of that is in the manual. And unless I'm crazy, you are not given any screen hint as to what the various buttons do. Sony should rectify that for the people who haven't been playing this series since '06.

And yeah, hitting square to rate is a bit retarded. Who really hits square to confirm anything on a Playstation console?

But now I know, I just find it aggravating when developers don't give you any clear idea on how to do something that (should be) fundamental!

No problem man. Yeah, I've actually found most instruction manuals to be SEVERELY lacking nowadays. The EA manuals are a complete joke. You're lucky if you get a button layout. The rest of the manual just talks about new features. I guess they just expect people to carry over knowledge from the previous year...which is the only reason why I know how the buttons work.

That's it for now. Everybody get me added to your in game buddy list so I can send you your invite. The draft is this coming Tuesday! If you don't have time to set up your picks now, you have no one to blame but yourself.
I checked on SCEA's website, and there was no invite. I'll pop the game in later tonight, and see if I just cant do it from there.
I'm definitely interested; I could take the Mariners. Let me know if that works!

The M's are yours! I need your PSN name though. Wow, no Red Sox in our league? I'm getting a bit of slight satisfaction from that, haha.

I played a guy earlier today who used Grienke for 10 innings throwing fastballs above the strikezone that if I hit them were always fouled or singles. The game was going good until the 11th inning when my pitcher(s) gave up 5 runs :/.

That sucks, but at the same time if you know whats coming, why didnt you lay off?

Question, is this going to be one of those leagues where throwing balls is going to be frowned upon. Cause I like to mix balls and strikes sometimes.

Well he got up to 2 in the first inning then I came back to tie and once I tied I just started to swing at anything just to move the game along.

PSN is Keltonian. I'm EST (EDT now, I guess). Thanks! No love for the Sox here, but I'm shocked nobody else wanted 'em.

Absolutely not! This is baseball...not teeball. Sometimes, I actually start feeling bad when I play guys who are swinging at everything, and I throw pitches 2 feet off the plate. But I have to remind myself that it's part of the game. If you don't know baseball well enough to work counts and have an idea of what pitch to expect and where it will be thrown, you deserve to struggle.

That's why I love the guess pitch feature. People think it makes the game easier, but it can actually be used AGAINST the hitter. If you can stay one step ahead, you can throw exactly what they're expecting, just out of the zone, and get an easy swing and miss most of the time. Ah crap, I'm giving away all my secrets now! Shut up me!!!

Yo N8...I don't have any mail for an invite to the league, or an invite to be your friend. Not sure if the server is just fucked up or you forgot to get me. Let me know.

Hmmm...no, I didn't think I forgot anyone. Just give me a couple minutes, and I'll send you an invite through the website. It's easier doing it on the site than in game anyway.
Thanks...what's the website url?
http://mlb09ps3html-prod.sc.online.scea.com/MLB09

Invites have now been sent out to EVERYBODY, whether you're on my buddy list or not. I'd still like to get everybody added to my list though, because it makes finding people and initiating games easier (and I'd reccommend everybody do the same). You don't have to accept your invite on the website. It should still work in the game, but the site is really cool because you can keep track of the league standings and stuff, and see who's online.

Uh...fucking figures I can't remember my fucking sign in and password now. Why can't it be the fucking same as my PSN network password?

It can be...but apparently you didn't make it that way ;)

And of course they wouldn't make it as easy as just getting an email sent to you for a lost password. and I really don't wanna have to call them up to go through all of that. Hopefully the invite is online...

All right, I just discovered a bit of a hiccup for our league. It's not an unsolvable problem, but it's still annoying (thanks again Sony). Apparently, all times listed in the game are Pacific time (even though it makes no indication one way or the other)...meaning, that the 9 PM time I selected for our draft is in fact 12 AM for people on the east coast.

Now, I can disband the league, recreate it with the correct time, and then re-send the invites...or we can have the draft at midnight EST. It's not a big deal for me to disband and resend, so as long as it doesn't bother anybody else, I'd prefer to do that. I just wanted to run it by you guys first.

yo, im away from ps3 on a business trip for the week/wont be home till sunday. Ill accept the invite then. Wpark83 I have the same issue... can you still jsut join online through the game rather then the website?

All right, I went with common sense, and figured nobody would want to start a lengthy player draft at midnight. Hopefully, no one was too far along in their draft queueing...otherwise, I'm going to feel like an idiot. New invites have been sent out to everyone. As before, just put your team in the correct division (AL/NL). Sorry for having to redo this, but for as many "little things" as Sony tried to add to this game, they really missed some obvious ones. Apparently, they didn't think specifying a time zone would be a major concern for anyone. I can't imagine why it would be important...

Here are a few issues I've run into...

1) The league website. I talked to a real idiot at Sony who kept telling me the SportsConnect username and password is the same as my PSN sign in stuff. WRONG. While on the phone and signing on to the game, I realized that in order to use the League website, you need to create a password when you sign into SportsConnect while playing the game. A big window comes up asking if you want to create a password for the website. I just never read it all. So create a password, and then when using the League website, use your PSN tag and the password you created. It was all good.

2) I can only queue up 6 players. I started making a list, and I selected Vlad Guerrero, and then my list had Johan Santana in the 6th spot, and then it wouldn't let me add any more guys. Again, I'm hoping this is just a one time glitch and when I accept the new league invite, it'll work better, but that's something I've run into. Let me know if anyone else experiences the same problem.
Yeah the que is messed up. I removed pedroia and the game crashed. I was like "WTF".
Yeah, I've gotten crashes in multiple locations of the online menu. Mostly buddy list, but now that you mention it, I did get one in the player queue.

Wow, that is freaking terrible guys. For whatever reason, I've only queued up 4 players, so I haven't run into the limitation of 6 yet. Maybe you have to turn your autodraft on to queue more? I love how there's a "league handbook" but it doesn't mention one word about doing a draft. You'd think they'd spend a little bit of time teaching people how to use the new features.

The only thing I can think to tell you is check the message boards because there have been several leagues that people have completed already. If this were a major issue, you'd think those guys would be freaking out about it. That's how I learned about the draft time being Pacific. The question was asked in like 3 different posts on the first two pages. It's really aggravating running into this many online gameplay issues in an otherwise stellar game. Honestly, the lag is the least of their problems. Hopefully we get it all figured out though.

Seems like queuing up only 6 players could be a problem.

Either way I will join the league 2nite. N8-I have no problem if you need to disband and reform the league.

Well, after scouring the message boards, I've come across some interesting info that I guess we should all be aware of.

very important if u will b doing a fantasy draft do not pick any player that is a free agent on the games default roster ie manny ramirez irod varitek. they will not be on your teams after the draft just a little warning

Please last night our draft kicked everyone off for the last five rounds, I was reading the message board I'm not the only one with these problem but the biggest issue here is that players in my league are missing important players in their roster that they drafted like manni Ramirez, Adan dum and Orlando Cabrera just to mention.

Just keeps getting better and better. Looks like until a patch is released, we can't draft anybody who is wearing a generic "MLB 09" hat in their picture. And for that matter, our draft could just get automatically shut down with five rounds to go. Great...

I just want to make sure everybody is aware that the new league with the corrected draft time has been set up, and fresh invites have been sent out. I realize a lot of you guys probably aren't near your PS3's right now, but I did want to make sure everybody knew since nobody has joined yet. Also, everybody read my last post before this one as it has some very important information we all need to know.

Dude....that blows bout the free agents...do we want to chance running the draft only to have it go bust with 5 rounds left? Yikes...
Dude....that blows bout the free agents...do we want to chance running the draft only to have it go bust with 5 rounds left? Yikes...
I know...I'm trying to read as much as I can to learn what actually happens. It looks like the draft just autocompletes the last 5 rounds, so I guess that's not devastating. But no free agents does suck. The online portion of this game is the biggest piece of shit I've ever seen. A monkey could have programmed it better.

EDIT - Yeah, here's confirmation on the draft just autocompleting the last 5 rounds. Still retarded, but unfortunately, not the biggest problem Sony has.

im missing players too. our draft also auto-completed the last 5 rds. sony?!!!!
Well then we would probably have to restart the team selection process all over again...
This. I'm pretty sure a lot of guys selected the team they did because they knew we were using fantasy rosters, and therefore, they opted for nice jerseys, or cool stadiums. Of course, I would be fine having my real roster, but I'm willing to bet a lot of guys wouldn't be.

Then, knowing our luck, by the time we got new teams selected, a patch would come out fixing the draft problems anyway. Plus, using real rosters leaves people open to real injuries, and having players just get taken away mid season. Personally, I'd still prefer to go with a draft, and try to just ride out the storm. But with as big of a mess as this is, I'm open to suggestions.

I'm pretty interested in your league. How often are you guys trying to play? If its pretty casual I would get in. I haven't played much and haven't got on-line at all yet, but I would be able to play a few games a week for sure.

I can also draft Tuesday at 9. Can you give me a bit more info on the league, and are the Chicago Cubs available?

My PSN id is ScottBigGame

Sign ups are closed. Replacements are brought in on an "as needed" basis. Right now, there are no openings. Sorry.

Once your team is drafted, can you delve into free agents on a team by team basis? If so, we could just honor any picks (Manny, etc) after the fact - or does it mean that they're just not available, period?

and, I'd rather not be the actual Orioles... :)

I think they're just unavailable. As far as I know, there aren't any transactions during the season. Based on what I've read, when you draft a free agent, he gets assigned to your AAA team...which you can't access. Seems pretty stupid.

It would be incredible if SCEA releases a patch to fix it this Monday, but that's probably wishful thinking. I think having no Manny, Sheets, Dunn, Griffey, Pettitte, OCab, etc. is the lesser evil than forcing some people to use the actual roster for their team. Even without those guys, we can still all be on an even playing field. That's my opinion anyway.
