The Giants signed Aaron Rowand....NO NO NO I HATE YOU BRIAN SABEAN.

Why? Why?
Called that one.

I'll tell you straight up, if McGwire's name isn't listed on the report tomorrow, I want to see him giving his acceptance speech in Cooperstown.
I would prefer rowand over matsui...
And i'd prefer crabs over herpes, but beggers can't be choosers right?

that is true...but in order to get matsui it looked like you would have needed to trade a pitching prospect and it would have cost more per season...rowand is relatively cheap at $12 mill per season...granted it is a long contract, and most likely he won't be worth it in year 5, maybe even in year 4. It wasn't a horrible sining...I don't know if you needed OF help or not, but he will add some offense to your team. Offensively, matsui has been more consistent with putting up the numbers, but rowand has put up similar numbers to matsui sporadically. Rowand also hasn't had the offensive force of the Yankee's with the batters in front of him and behind him that matsui has had the luxury of. Not unless there is a bunch of prospects, that yahoo sports depth chart isn't showing it isn't like the giants had great offense in the OF position with davis, roberts and winn. Also add to the fact that rowand is currently solid defensively and a lot better then matsui. It isn't great signing, but it isn't horrible either. He is cheaper then some of the other OF that have been signed over the past couple of years. Looking at similar or worse numbers from these OF that are making more money. Damon, JD Drew, Andrew Jones (has more power, but worse BA), Soriano (better offensively, but defensively it isn't even a comparison), Matsui etc...

Oh no way in hell I would've traded Noah Lowry or Johnathan Sanchez for Matsui.

A rotation of:

Cain/ Teh Franchise/ Lowry/ Zito/ Sanchez.

Were set, maybe trade one of those pieces for an All-Star caliber bat.

I've settled down on Rowand, 5 ys/60 mill...a lot better than what we were offering Juan Pierre and Matthews. But this will put Rowand in Center, I think Fred Lewis/Dave Roberts will platoon in left, and Randy Winn at right.

Does any of this shit matter? No, we'll suck.

I guess later today the roid report is supposed to come out. 80+ players will be named on it. It will be interesting to see what names come up.

I'm curious what ramafacations will come out of this, if any. I mean, I doubt anyone will get suspended.....odds are, most teams will have 1 player on it.

Curious what happens to Detroit.....was Shef juicing.

Not that it matter...now that we have the new murderes row

I wouldn't be surprised to see Chipper Jones or Tom Glavine on it, unfortunately.

It will be interesting to watch the multitude of press conferences pop up over the next few days. Buster Olney better start the Red Bulls now.
Seems like the Rocket is the first casualty of the report.
I don't doubt that, but I am not seeing that anywhere yet.

Yea their website is lagging. Basically the trainer of Clemens and Pettite said that he gave steroids to Clemens. Also prominent Yankees are to be named.

.com finally put up a minor little blurb.

Was there going to be any doubt that Yankees were to be named? You know for sure Giambi has taken them, I wouldn't doubt Sheffield or Riviera. What would happen to Yankee Nation if Jeter was on there?

Forgot about that.

Let's start guessing about names and see if we're right.

Brady Anderson
Sammy Sosa
Palmiero
JD Drew
Chipper Jones
Orlando Hernandez
Eric Gange
Miguel Tejada
Kris Benson
Randy Johnson
Matt Williams
Gary Matthews Jr
Jermaine Dye
Moises Alou
from MLBTR
Astros Acquire Tejada
This comes as a surprise, on the heels of a Rosenthal report to the contrary. Jeff Zrebiec says the Astros have acquired Miguel Tejada for Luke Scott, Matt Albers, Troy Patton, Dennis Sarfate, and Mike Costanzo. More in a bit, but at first glance that's a fine haul for Baltimore.
Baltimore recieves the poo-poo platter. The Astros receive an aging shortstop who will be moved to 3rd. I don't really understand the astros. One year Drayton McLain is claiming he is poor and can't afford to pay Carlos Beltran, Roy Oswalt, or Jeff Bagwell. The next year he gives a guy a huge extension, signs Clemens to a $20M deal, or trades for aging players.

I am assuming Tejada is moving to 3rd. Adam Everett is a vastly superior defensive shortstop at this point.

not to mention the poor boy was on roids...wonder how mclain feels now.

Baseball won't do a damn thing to these guys. Hell Bud Selig and all of the owners knew about it but they let it happen because the HR surge saved baseball after the strike. Now they want to sit there and play dumb "Steroids? Really? I had no idea!"

david eckstein is close to signing a 1 year, 4.5 mill with the toronto bluejays....that is a hell of a deal for the bluejays...we are stuck with a .225 hitting ss making in the $8 - $10 mill range...

Can David Eckstein still get the ball to first? I think a better deal would be not having Eckstein as your everyday shortstop.

he did have a shitload of errors last year, but it wasn't like lugo was a great fielding ss for the majority of the season. I don't get all the hate on eckstein on these boards. 2006 WS mvp, has hit over .290 the past 3 years, and he just signed a dirt cheap contract to play for toronto for a year

Besides the harren trade, Mike lamb is in the process of signing a 2 year 6.6 mill deal with the twins.

With Haren traded, Oakland will probably look to move Blanton and Street as well. I don't know about the prospects that the D'backs gave up, but Webb + Haren + Randy Johnson (if he can get healthy) looks pretty good to me.

The D Backs also trade Jose Valverde to the Astros for Chad Qualls, Chris Burke, and a few other players. Looks like they D Backs needed a reload.

I don't understand the Valverde trade, especially after they acquired Haren.

Qualls is good setup guy but had mixed results as a closer. Burke is mediocre at best and the other guy isnt that intriguing. Valverde isn't makig big bank yet and it seems after the Haren pickup thy are set up nicely for a run.
I'd gladly take Hudson Street off the A's hands.
yeah illl take Calero and Blanton off their hands too..

Edmonds is a Padre now..looks like that fills the hole at center the pads were looking to fill.

i wonder how edmunds will play in san diego, as he continues to age...there is a shitload of area to cover in CF in san diego...and it is a much bigger park thus dropping his power numbers
yesterday it was reported that johan santana would not be traded anytime soon..this came from either boston.com or one of the boston papers...they claimed that neither boston or NY would aquire him before the holidays....

today on Yahoo sports, it is reported that a Minn paper is claiming a deal could be wrapped up within days...it appears that minn is back to the lester deal

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/rumors/post/Report-Santana-trade-could-come-within-days?urn=mlb,58580
i can really believe that. They balked at prior deals and shot themselves in the foot..so i think they are trying to salvage it by going back to the sox and getting atleast lester. Again, the only way the yanks have a slight chance of getting him is ponying up Kennedy or Chamberlain..and the yanks wont do that..so consider them out....

yeah i was wondering the same thing. But if he can get atleast near what mike cameron or brian giles got them..i think they would be happy.....

The baseball from the final out of the 2007 World Series is at Jonathan Papelbon's home in Hattiesburg, Miss., according to the Hattiesburg American.
Well, part of it is.
The rest? You should ask the Boss.
If he could talk, he might say it was delicious. But the most he'll say is "woof."
"Boss," you see, is Jonathan Papelbon's dog. Boss likes to play with baseballs. And Boss found the baseball that Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek gave the closer after he struck out the Rockies' Seth Smith to clinch Boston's second World Series title in four years, the newspaper reported.
And Papelbon was left with a common excuse for not doing one's homework to explain what happened to a historic baseball artifact.
"My dog ate it," Papelbon told the newspaper. "He plays with baseballs like they are his toys. His name is Boss. He jumped up one day on the counter and snatched it. He likes rawhide. He tore that thing to pieces.
"I'll keep what's left of it," he told the paper.
After the 2004 World Series, the Red Sox and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz haggled over custody of the ball that produced the final out of the team's Series championship in 86 years. Both sides eventually decided to give the ball to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.

i read about this on my blackberry. Funniest baseball story EVAR!

a chewed up baseball at Copperstown...i cant wait to see that haha

Looks like the Padres signed Mark Prior... As a Cubs fan I just have this bad feeling that his leaving is gonna backfire on us in a big way. Watch him come back 100% healthy and start throwing like 2003 Prior again.

some interesting info on craig hanson that I didn't know about...he recently had surgery to correct a sleep apthenia problem...

as per redsox mailbag

The Red Sox definitely need additional bullpen depth, and they haven't been able to add anyone yet from another organization. Perhaps, Hansen will finally emerge this season. Hansen recently had surgery to correct sleep apnea, and the club is hopeful that his focus will be improved and he'll be more energized as a result.

I don't know when the surgery was, but I know he had a solid last month in AAA, and then pitched very well in fall ball in an arizona league. Hopefully he can turn it on. Manny delcarmen was pitching horrible in AAA last year, and then was rather lights out at the MLB level with the sox.
so is the asterisk going on rogers redsox or yankee hat when/if he gets into the hall
Pretty soon they're going to need to open up an asterisk wing in the hall of fame...
Please if there is a god... some one who cares about baseball...buy the pirates..
if i had enough money..i still wouldnt hehe..although ill take ian snell and jason bay off your hands.well i would welcome back bay to the mets any day.

Thank God we dont have to deal with Tejada any longer. Its still wierd seeing him in the Baltimore uni and he is now with Houston.
