I don't know about the Phillies, but with the Yankees, it's a problem that has unfortunately been around most of the year. This Yankee team really reminds me of the teams that lost in the first round three years in a row. During the season, they absolutely beat the snot out of bad teams. Like badly, which led to their lofty offensive numbers. But during big games, they lack the ability to get the big hit or move the runners along. As my fellow Yankee fan mentioned earlier, they are just sitting around and waiting for the 3-run homerun.

It's one thing when you get a game like Lee pitched the other night. There isn't much you can do with that. He was on, and he doesn't walk people, so you can't even manufacture a cheap run. I mean, how many runners did they have on in the middle innings last night? Wow. They had a great chance to put that game away. Now, the Rangers could have very well come back in that case. As we have seen, that offensive is not being held down by the Yankees. But they would have at least still had a game on their hands.
 
A postseason like this makes me really miss Damon and Matsui. Damon is the perfect 2nd hitter and Matsui is just clutch.

As for the lineup, I don't know what happened to Jeter but he is by far the worst Yankee hitter right now. I'd rather have Gardner leading off and Jeter batting 9th but Girardi would never do that. Only hitters swinging a good bat right now is Cano, Granderson, and maybe Berkman.
 
I think that's a little harsh about Jeter. He's 5-18 in the series. Not great, but still better than most. Plus 4 of those 5 hits have been for extra bases (3 doubles and a triple). Unfortunately, the Yankees don't know how to actually drive people in.

Yep and Ranger offense keeps swinging at balls in the dirt lol. Hopefully they get it together Friday.
 
Just as long as CC can stay strong. He's at 90 pitches already, and that Yankee bullpen has been suspect. Crazy how good Cano has been all year though. All the big money players with all their hang ups and mental issues, and Cano just keeps crushing the ball.

Why is that sad? Kerry Wood still has a lot of skill left in that arm. He's not a fireballer anymore, but he's learned how to pitch. Wood is a legitimate reliever.

Well, fortunately today, we don't need them. Sabathia - Wood - Rivera. If the rest of our starters could get through 6 innings with a lead, it wouldn't be that big of a problem. Middle relief for both teams has been pretty shaky.

Rangers did, too. Outhit the Yanks but couldn't get the big hit to open the flood gates. CJ just didn't have it today, either. Nothing wrong with taking two out of three in the Bronx, though. The pressure is still on New York.

Well, Texas seemed to do an even worse job of this. They actually outhit the Yanks 13-9, but only managed 2 runs. Not a stellar offensive performance on their part. CC really battled though and Wood was fantastic. I just hope Phil Hughes can follow suit and the bats stay alive on Friday and set up one more showdown with our nemesis...Cliff Lee.

Despite being down, it is interesting that for the Yanks to win this series, they basically need to come full circle in a matter of days. Started with CC, needs to continue with Hughes, and then they have to find a way to beat Lee. One hell of a challenge.
 
Ha....Pablo's ball was foul, Rowand goes down on verrryyyy low pitch and then they show the balk....good two minutes for MLB.
 
Phillies finally string some hits together and they send Ruiz. Nothing can go right for this team.

EDIT - I take that back.

I'm a Yankees Fan, and it they don't make it, i'd rather see a Rangers/Giants WS. It always kills me to see the Red Sox or Phillies(blame it on the NFL, I hate the Eagles) win.
 
Very nice feeling seeing the Giants up 3-1. Will miss most of the game tomorrow (work), but as long as I'm home in time for the final out of the series (I hope), I'll be a happy guy.
 
Tonight's game was entertaining, but it was painful to watch. I think the Phillies problem continues to be that they just don't respect San Fran at all. If they wanna have any chance at all in this series, they really need to get the fuck over themselves. They are a far cry from the 2008 team.
 
I think his bullpen was depleted 'cept for Lidge? Maybe Romero too.. Probably thought the game would go into extra innings or something, I'm not sure.
 
seriously, you can't fault them for their prediction. I think everyone except for Giant Fans would have had that same prediction.

I have no care for who wins or who loses in any series. Its just great to see some great baseball being played out there.
 
Exactly. If part of your job is to make predictions, it just made sense to pick Phils. They have won the last 2 NL pennants and have some of the best pitchers in the game, including a guy who just threw a no-hitter in the freaking playoffs.
 
I'm guessing Manuel sending out Oswalt was because he thought the game would go past just one inning and he doesn't use Romero for more than one inning. The matchups might have not been in Romero's favor either, that could have been a factor. And yes, everyone outside of Giants fans expected the Phillies to win.

It's so frustrating that just when they start to hit well the Giants hit better. Hopefully their hitting continues tonight and Halladay can pitch like he should. AND DON'T PITCH CODY ROSS INSIDE FOR fuckS SAKE!
 
why not just use Lidge? I am sure he could go 2 innings. From what I heard Oswalt already iced his arm so it doesnt seems like a good idea
 
Lidge is shaky enough just pitching one inning, I'm not so sure he could handle two. But he should have just used Lidge or Romero anyway, they wouldn't have done a worse job than Oswalt.

Howard has been on super struggle mode. That guy cant hit a beach ball right now. The Phils also need Ibanez to start stepping up. he did tonight but he has been horrendous for most of the series....Man its going to be to see how much Jayson Werth gets on the open market.
