That's about right for Riske.. then the next time he's throwing he'll pitch 2 perfect innings. He has great stuff and control when he's on... but he's entirely undependable. I was glad to see Cleveland let him go.

red sox ss alex gonsalez pulled out of the WBC, no reason was given. It is believed he left due to the non guaranteed contract. Possibly worried if dustin pedroia had a good spring, he wouldn't have a job. the sox website said he wasn't on the 30 man roster...Omar Vizquel and Carlos Guillen most likely would be ahead of him on the depth chart. Not confirmation if he asked off due to lack of playing time, or if he was cut off the team.

Dustin pedroia had an MRI on his shoulder today, it was hurt in his swing and miss yesterday. It looks to be a strained left shoulder, and will be out for at least a week.

Sorianio left the national yesterday, without a position. They want him to play LF, he wants 2b. Jose Vidro is the expected 2b starter for the nationals.

Notes from Peter Gammons:

Bobby Cox: "Given the team he's pitching for, my pick for the American League Cy Young is Josh Beckett."

He also wrote, and commented about Clemans. Now rumored that he will wait untill mid July, before signing with anyone. Wants to have a strong finish, and if the Astros are out of it in July, he will look elsewhere...the excerpt is the following.

Roger Clemens looked very good again Thursday morning against the Astros minor-leaguers, a better team than he will face in the South Africans.
Meanwhile, those close to him believe a chance to get back to the World Series may cause him to think seriously about going to Texas, Boston or New York if he waits until nearly July to come back -- which is a possibility since he wants to be strong come the end of the season. If the Astros were 12 games behind the Cardinals on June 15 -- as has been the case in the past -- Roger could give it more thought.

Kerry Wood will have minor knee surgery, expcected to be ready for opening day.

Gonzalez didn't leave because of his contract situation. He left because he was going to be a backup to Omar Vizquel in the WBC.

yeah, i heard it on the radio, they didn't talk about that...just came back to make the correction after reading the info on the redsox website...editing the gonsalez thing and dustin pedroia .
Japan put the huge smackdown on China 18-2. Seo pitched well.
oh yeah and ichiro was subpar hitting too...that 2nd baseman of theirs has some serious speed.
I'm still trying to find something about that argument, but with Schilling, that might not be a bad thing.

Got Bruins tickets tonight, the $42 and below tickets are going for $10, go to ticketmaster.com and put score in the powerade box, on the page for tonight's game.
Read somewhere that it was blown out of proportion so not too big of a deal and anyways I like seeing Curt Ornery

I think the regional rivalries in Group A will make the games' intense.

I'm particularly looking forward to Canada-Mexico, in what will likely decide 2nd place.
Didn't the mercy rule kick in when Japan was beating them?
Yeah it did. Sorry if my typing is shitty, cuz I'm drunk. Anyway, China was picked as the least likely to move on from pool play.

Holy shit, It took me like five minutes to even make this readable.

They told him he was on the team and that he'd play, he already knew he wouldn't start. After he's already in Venezuela, Luis Sojo called him at 1am and told him he was off the team. Thats some bullshit right there.
what would be a bigger kick in the nutz is if the red sox don't take him. With Dustin Pedroia, alex cora and the machedo kid who is playing well, I don't see why we need him. The only thing about pedroia is that whenever he seems to have an opportunity to make the team, he gets hurt.

Riske struggled again today.

I saw that. It's weird that the story has changed a few times now.

Why is Canada starting Bedard v. the US? might as well have him face Mexico, a team we can beat.
Wells has rescinded his trade request, and he's 99.9% sure he'll retire after this year.

while that is good news, as wells was good last year. It does mean that paplebon is most likely heading to the bullpen, maybe even triple a. I wonder if this was a move to increase his trade value. By saying he is ok to stay in Boston, maybe the sox could squeeze something out of a trade.:bs: :bs:

Just because he isn't asking for a trade, it doesn't mean we won't anyway. This could be gamesmanship on Theo's part.

San Diego was really trying to get him for nothing, they were only offering Woody Williams and Dave Roberts. If Wells will go to Washington, we could get something from them. But if its just the West coast, I don't know what they could get from San Diego, Anaheim, San Fransisco, etc.

well the first trade offer for wells was dave roberts and the reliver osuna....that would have been decent for the sox. Having roberts as the starting cf for a year, and then made a major pitch on jones next season. They could have kept marte and motta. Roberts would have been a mediocre to above avg cf, but the sox wouldn't get shit on him, as he did steal 2b vs the yanks.

the CBL has only been around 1 year which was this year. what a way to be thrown in a fire with asia's best baseball players. i really wish the mets got Nischioka instead of Matsui...That guy guy is ten times better than he is but then again...who knows...

Roberts could give teh Sox some more speed on the bases. He is pretty fast for a guy that is coming off an injury plaqued season for SD. I think he could be a good pinch runner for Ortiz in the late ininnings or someone else that cant run well....

Just heard this on eei.

It was written by two reporters from the San Francisco Chronicle.. how is this authorative in any way? And/or how will it have any reliable information that has yet to be released?

If the BALCO doctors or his trainer or Barry himself released a book.. sure. But this one, doubt it'll even cause a stir.

Thats like saying a book by Woodward and Bernstein about Nixon should be immediately discounted and disregarded because they broke Watergate.

This isn't a work of fiction here, everything they have is backed up by multiple sources and hard evidence. They would get sued in a heartbeat if they didn't.

They've got the calendars that Bonds and Anderson used to keep track of his steroid cycles. They've got invoices for steroids and HGH that Bonds bought. They've literally got the receipts! I don't know how much more damning you can get. They had access to many things, including sealed documents, that aren't available to the general public.

Read the article at SI.com, its got a lot of good info on the evidence.

This won't change public perception much, because the public thinks he did it anyway. This'll change a few people's minds, including hall of fame voters, that don't want to condemn him unless theres hard evidence. Here's their evidence, presented in such a concise, easy to understand way, that even a baseball beat writer can understand it.

I really don't care if he did steroids or not. The fans don't go to games to see 1 - 0 or 2 - 1 games. They go to see homers. The same is with hockey. The stupid mid ice trap, and the enlarged goalie equipment made the game not fun to watch. Yes steroids are illegal, no I don't want some to use, and others to not use. But with the strike that went out in baseball in the late 90's and the need to get fans back in the seats, MLB turned the other cheek. If they weren't going to enforce there own laws, or even attempt to control the situation, then I don't feel you should punish those players who put up great numbers. It got the fans back, and everyone was happy at the time. IMO, bonds, if he did use, would have been a border line hall of famer without the steroids. He put up solid numbers for much of his career, before he got big.
Oh, and John Flaherty retired. Its down to Bard and Huckaby now.
I guess he struggled a lot harder then it looked in the game with wake the other day. I really think wakefield is going to struggle this year.

Dominican Republic beat Venezula 11 - 5...Big Pappi, David Ortiz hit a solo and a 2 run homer.

Manny was 2 - 2 today with 3 rbi's

fucken Kevin Millar stroked a rbi double I believe

dafoomie sent you a pm about 1/2 priced bruins tix

7-4 Canada in the 7th, closer then I expected. I think with a full start from Francis, we easily take this game.

David Wells is back on attack of Bud Selig

"Bud Selig needs to resign. That's what he needs to do," Wells said in a story published in Wednesday's editions of the Hartford Courant. "He needs to resign and bring someone in who's capable of communicating with the players association and the owners, as well as the players, because there's so much hatred against Bud right now. It's a joke. Nobody likes him."

Hopefully he gets a shot as an every day player or at the very least the 4th OF spot.
He has to be on the major league roster until April 22 or he has to be returned to Atlanta. He'll get a shot. He's really not a great hitter though.

Maybe Toronto will trade for him since he's a Canadian hero now.

I thought stern had only 18 days left of service time needed...so pretty much the first month. He did go 3 - 3 in the game. While he looked like shit last year, if it wasn't for the rule 5 requirements, he would have been on a double a team. Varitek hit a grand slam in the loss.

In the sox game today, former top prospect hanley ramirez went 3 - 3 with a tripple vs boston today. No idea who they were playing for the sox. I had never heard of David Puley the starting sox pitcher

I guess the argument that "it wasn't illegal in baseball until 2001" is out the window...

June 7, 1991, from the office of the commissioner of baseball

"The possession, sale or use of any illegal drug or controlled substance by Major League players or personnel is strictly prohibited ... This prohibition applies to all illegal drugs ... including steroids."

It was specifically banned in baseball, there was a rule against it in 1991.

From what I understand the Balco stuff pretty much kept ahead of the illegal curve. In other words, they came up with something quasi-legal and kept switching drugs when new laws came out.

So whereas it may have been against the spirit of the law and rule.. it wasn't against the letter of it.

In addition to the cream, he was doing winstrol/stanozolol and Nandrolone/Deca Durabolin, which are both prescription anabolic steroids. Also, he was using human growth hormone. The Clear is a drug called norbolethone, a prescription anabolic steroid that was never brought to market due to safety concerns. He was also taking erythropoietin, insulin, modafinil, trenbolone, andriol, and clomid.

geez im surpised he didnt die yet....did he really care about Home runs to take this much shit. was it me or was the ticker on espn...i remeber seeing that the mlb is giving the players a list of safe supplements to use and buy that doesnt have the steroid effect in them?

why would he take insulin, that shit will kill you. I got to take it because I am a diabetic, but I have had some near incidents of taking to much, and have come close to not coming out of the reaction.

canseco had an interview on weei.com today talking about steroids. He went on about how palmerio tested positive long before he appeared before congress. He went on to say that the commish told palmerio to adamantly deny the rumors to congress, and they would hold back on the positive exam, and let him get the hit/homer plateau. Canseco said the only reason the positive exam got out, was because that congress had people around for the tests, and it forced MLB to leak the positive test to the media. Several of the co hosts, after the interview said they had unconfirmed reports of that as well. I hope that this blows up in the commish/players union face.

Vlad Guerro to rejoin the Dominican team in the WBC
Its funny, Jose Canseco has been the most honest man in this whole ordeal.
i think he needs to shake palmiero's and bond's hands for his new image..IMO i feel like this vindicates him and his book.

Vlad Guerrero will not be joining the DR in the WBC. Reports say that the DR assumed he would be joining them in the 2nd round due to conversations with people that are close to Vlad. How the fuck the story was reported based off of conversations with vlad thru people are close to him amaze me.

Barry Bonds said he would like to join the US team in the WBC. It was surprising news to the US manager. Buck Martinez says he has no plans to alter his 30 man roster.
