New Super Mario Bros -- Out Now!

well my nearest target has copies in stock .. so just as soon as i take a shower i'm going to grab a copy ^_^.

today is going to be the longest day of work EVA!!

This wait is gonna kill me. I only know one person with a DS, and he doesn't live that close to me. Well, atleast I saved by getting the game now.

I went to pick up my pre-order this morning at GameStop, and he told me they wouldn't be in until 1:00 this afternoon. I told him to cancel it because I was just going to pick it up at Best Buy, and he was pissed.

Anyway, it took me an hour and a half to play through World 1 and get all the Star Coins, so it's looking like this is going to be a relatively lengthy Mario game. I'm loving every second of it so far (probably a good thing, since I took the day off work just to play).

By the way, at the very end of the World 1 castle, was anyone else reminded instantly of Super Metroid?

Got the call at 1130am to come pick it up.. I think my GameCrazy is the first place to have it.

It's awesome, I'm not hyped at all because i've seen like one video and nothing else. I love all the Mario side scrollers so I know this is going to be great.. I love getting a great game without getting hyped up for it.

I just realised that today is release day......... I'm without a DS until the Lite and i'm gonna get this with trade credit online so i'm not really paying close attention. ANYWAY I was at Kmart yesterday about noon and they had this for sale already, that's a first!

For those in the NoVA area (as of about noon today) -

Fairfax Circuit City didn't have it out. Drove to Fair Oaks, Best Buy had markers, but no games. Wal Mart had nothing, but the Target had at least 30 copies.

Walked into CC this morning at 10. They were out on the shelf. Grabbed one. Good deal. Started playing it...I'm a little kid again!!! Giant Mario kicks ass!

I noted that when I went back to world one today for some reason that all the mushroom houses were open to use again. Maybe its like once you beat a world that you can go back and use the houses again. Maybe. I know it netted me another 23 men.

nice :)

i like alot fo the new enemy designs, especially the bosses. Plus going to the 3rd alternate stage was unique.
If anyone picks this up at CC in the morning, could you mention that specifically? I'm wondering if this after 5pm crap will hold true or not...
I stopped at CC just after 10 and saw an empty display for it. However, on the way out an employee asked if I needed help. I asked if it might be in before 5pm and they had actually just gotten it in.
They usually get stuff in at the morning and then have to put it in the system, so it's usually not ready until 4.
Ahhh, I see... that's good to know, thanks :)

I can't get there until after class anyway, turns out... so doesn;t matter now :( I just hope they get in plenty of copies so some are left at 6! And that there's time ot play after I pick it up!

I just picked it up from CC about an hour ago. I had called ahead and they said they had it but when I got there, it was no where to be found. I went over to an employee to ask what the deal was and lo and behold, he was opening the boxes and getting ready to put them on the shelf.

Thanks to the CAGers for the sweet deal.

If there was one thing I had to pick out as a disappointment, it's Koopa Jr. He's so EASY. I still haven't seen what his moves are, because I can kill him with no threat within seconds. Super Mario World had great AND challenging bosses.
Update - my 3 year old just ran in "He WON THE WHOLE game!!". I think his brother made it to the end of the first world or something :D.
That's ADORABLE!

Man...I remember when my littlest brother was young, and would do that kinda stuff....now he's a jerk 14 year old.

io - you won't let your kids hit that stage, if you know what's good for you.
You know what is good for that? Repeated bitch slaps.
Tried it; it just stunted his growth, and I think it made him even angrier.

Imagine, if you will, a pissed off midget with an eye patch and a hook for a hand. He's kinda like that, but completely different.

Ah yes, I remember being 5 years old, FINALLY beating level 1-1 (hey, it was my first video game experience), celebrating, and then my jaw dropped when I saw that it wasn't over yet.

Btw - in New Super, you can fireball Lakitu, take his cloud and ride it. It doesn't work if you bounce on his head to kill him, though.

Great game. The only thing that sucks is that you cant save whenever you want.
Hold L + R + A when selecting a file to play as luigi.
awesome.

Crap. My DS-Lite won't be here for another month and I don't have a DS. Oh well I'll be swinging by CC and grabbing this tonight.

awesome.
the saving system is setup just like super mario world... just beat a dungeone to save. Also, if you use coins to move in a new path, you can save. You can use that as a save midway through if ever needed.

This game is every bit as good as you think it is. I must play more. Now.

I think the turtle "powerup" is completely badass.

It's in my hands right now. My Best buy had like 30 copies. PMed the CC ad, used a reward zone certificate, and walked out with the game for like $24.

Just blew through the first world, this game is awesome. It has just the right mix of new and old. My lone complaint (so far) is that running feels a bit odd, compared to all the other Mario games.

Sleep Mode lasts up to a week. That's good enough for me.

Got my copy.

Sweet game. Played through the first 2 levels (not worlds)...Seems kind of easy but so were the classic SMB games so I dont mind. Definately a must buy for any fan. How many levels is this game supposed to have?

I just played the first half of level 1. I am in love with this game already. I vowed not to advance through another stage until I find all 3 coins first, so I can get 100% the first time through.

played a few levels... awesome. Nintendo succeeded entirely in making a new SMB installment. My only complaint is that I'm too damn tired to enjoy playing it right now... but I can't wait to play it when I'm not half asleep.

Nintendo needs to start adding difficulty levels... I love the game, but its just a bit too easy.

One can say the earlier Mario's were easy, as well, but I don't know, I don't think adding difficulty levels would hurt. I mean, I had 30 lives by the end of world 1 already.

I just want Nintendo to go all out and make a tough as nails, yet still fun, platformer.

is anyone gaining a frightening OCD while playing this game? :)

I just played through the first world and I keep going back to see if I can find all the Star Coins.

P.S- this game rules.

Anybody figure out how to reach the blocked off part of World 1? It's the stage with what looks like a bomb launch cannon next to it.

Yeah, there's an alternate exit in the world above it, and an alternate exit in that secret world. The cannon sends you to World 5
I went back because I was having so much fun.

I had close to 40 by the end of World 1 I think, and now (end of World 5) I'm down to about 5 (although I blew many of those screwing around trying to find alternate exits). I still don't think I'd call it a difficult game, but it certainly picks up a little. I had to stop playing because my hands were dripping sweat.

Hey I grew up in Berkeley, Thief. Wish I could move back there but I'm not a multi-millionaire :D.

Well, my oldest (daughter) is 9. I think I've got alot of years ahead of me with a 14 or near-14 year old, unfortunately :D.

Just some comments on the difficulty - I haven't played yet, but my 6 year old did get through the first part and I guess fought Baby Bowser - said he was really easy. So take that as it may be... I assume it gets harder later. I was just finishing up Super Princess Peach (going back after the end and getting all the bonus goodies). I found the end of that fairly challenging in that you had to beat Bowser twice. It took me 3 tries anyway, and I suck, so I guess that isn't too challenging :D. I'm going to try to finish the last bonus items on that tonight and then play Mario on the plane tomorrow and all week during my business trip .

In about 20 minutes the Girl Scout troop arrives and me and the boys get banished to the far reaches of the house - I think we're going to try out the NSMB multi-player. Has anyone given that a shot yet?

I discovered you can do that in Super Princess Peach as well (but I think you can jump on him too, in addition to hitting him with the umbrella). Problem is the cloud doesn't last long so it's really no good for getting to anything.
