NFL 2007 Season Thread
Yeah but I would want out of that situation as well. He came in there thinking he would have a team QB by Vick. They brought him there for Vick. The state that team is in now, sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Anyway his players supposedly were not really behind him and you saw that by a few blow ups like the one Hall had.
true....i would jump ship too..but at the end of the season...atleast it would be more professional that way and not a slap in the face to Arthur Blank.

Blank i feel truly bad for. he asked for none of this stuff to come around. Vick in prision and his coach gone after 13 games. what did he do to deserve any of this?
ph33r, you better be glad they play Jacksonville, and Indianapolis in their last three games, but they have a shot at Denver.
I was right on Schaub? Props to Texans, and Mario Williams, i'll still say they should've drafted Vince Young, so they could've kept their draft picks.

And I might quit football the way the 49ers play...
Man you want Fanceca, Haynesworth, and Briggs?!?! No way that is going to happen. They need a QB first and foremost. There D is mediocre but they have the worst offense in the league that is where they should focus.
Anyway Haynesworth is good but he will go for way more than he is worth. It took him 4 years to show how good he is and what do you know it's in his contract year he is playing his best. Also he tends to be unstoppable in the first half and pretty much fade away by the time the third quarter comes around. Fanceca will be getting a huge contract. That's why he won't be in Pitt next year. Not that I would not want him but the Niners need to be spending there money elsewhere. Briggs would be amazing but another huge contract. I would rather spend that money on Offense and hopefully draft some good defensive talent.
But the state of the team now is very sad. Nolan has done a horrible job and needs to go. Smith has had his chance, time to move on. We need a coach that will come in there and FIX things. I think an experienced coach would be better than going after a coordinator. Hopefully a new GM is in store as well. It's sad that they are going to have to basically rebuild AGAIN!!
I said prior i'd take Briggs, but i'm more focused on Haynesworth, a grade A pass rusher, and look into Faneca and see how much he wants. What helps is that in the 4th quarter rolls around, if a RB got past Haynesworth guess who he runs into? Willis & Lawson.

I'm willing to give Smith one more year, the guy went 16 TD's/ 16 INT's last year, and managed the game well before he got injured. Not saying this kid is a pro-bowler, but I believe another year is just. I'm never for firing a coach, but Nolan must go. He made his bed with calling out Smith, and now he must sleep in it. I don't think we need a GM, promote Scott McCloughlan, the guy is VP of Personnel and has made great calls on some moves. Ken Zamepese is my vote for coach or at least OC, coaching wise i'd like it to be Ronnie Lott, and always have wanted him to coach, but that is just wishful thinking. Could you imagine Vernon Davis/Darrell Jackson explaining a dropped pass to Lott? Hah.
No.
um.. Alex Smith's second year numbers are better than vince's this year...

For Vince to surpass Alex Smith's Second season stats, he has to throw for over 800yds, 9 tds, 0 ints in the last 3 games...
DJSteel speaks the truth. Vince Young is terrible this season. A Poor Man's Michael Vick.
Name one weapon he has, beside Lendale White, please do.

You can say that, but many of his weapons were stripped from him this year. They lost any marquee recievers they had and they lost a 1500 yard back. Alex Smith has had Frank Gore his entire tenure and while his recievers have been on par, one also has to look at wins and losses. Skip Bayless is completely right in that Young is the anti-fantasy QB as he does the one thing all are supposed to do, which is win.

He lost Drew Bennett and Travis Henry, preach. I think any 49er fan would take VY over Alex.

What weapons did Vick? Vick still got it done with little support. The Titans have decent WR's but they suck at throwing the ball so they Receivers get little to no action.

I agree that winning is the most important stat (and also that FF is killing the way the sport is represented in the media, but I digress), an effective QB needs to give his team the best chance to get those wins. I'm not convinced that Young is doing that. Namely, turning the ball over is not good for your team. 16ints and 7 fumbles (5 lost) so far this season. Yes the team is 7-6 right now, but they are winning in spite of him.

A pro-bowler by the name of Alge Crumpler?

Decent WR's? Are you serious?

Eric Moulds (Who shoulda retired back in the 90's), Brandon Jones, Justin Gage, Chris Davis, your really calling these guys decent? Whatever your smokin gimme some to numb the pain of watching the 49ers.

What? Moulds best Seasons Came in 98-04. He was a beast even though he was on the shitty Bills whom don't have a good QB at the time also. Moulds can still do what he did in that time range, he just needs a good QB.

Moulds was never a top tier WR. He had 3 years in his career where he had above average years. He is now 34 and has been in the league 12 years. There is no way he would put up numbers like he did 2000, 02, & 04 no matter where he played. He is old.
The Titans dumped Travis Henry and that was a terrible move. Vince to me is a little over rated but he does also have no targets. His best option is Scaife his TE. Gage is a decent young WR but the rest of there WRs are garbage. Lendale can also not receive out of the back field. I do wish they would use Chris Brown more as he is way more of a threat to catch passes and break a big run then White. Losing Drew Bennett was not a big deal though. He had one good year in 2004 and has done nothing for the Rams this year.
The Niners O line is pretty good. Gore is not oft injured. He has been injured this year but played all of last year and was third in the league in rushing and Smith still played mediocre. They have Jackson, Battle, and Vernon Davis. Now these might not be the best weapons in the league but when you throw Gore in there he has a decent set up weapons. He is just not good. If you watch any Niner games you will see is bad throws, how he cannot pick up blitzes, how he is erratic in the pocket, how he leaves the pocket way to early, how he does not protect the ball, etc. etc.
You seem to defend Vince for his lack of weapons but discount that factor in Simth's case.

What's the difference?
You seem to defend Vince for his lack of weapons but discount that factor in Simth's case.

The difference is Smith does have "above decent" weapons, Gore, Davis (As much as I bash him), Battle, D-Jack, Lelie. All our #2's and #3 WR's but our a shit load better than VY has. Oh yeah, and Smith has no idea of what pocket presence is.
DJSteel speaks the truth. Vince Young is terrible this season. A Poor Man's Michael Vick.
And Vick who was a poor man's Cunningham. Always QB sneak in Tecmo Super Bowl, always!

There is the answer I would have given.

Yeah, but... I still wouldn't classify any of those as "weapons." The wideouts are all 2nd receivers ideally.

Gore is no doubt a weapon. And Vernon Davis is young but he could be very dangerous if you pair him would a good NFL QB. The WRs are all decent and are all better then what Young has.

Darrell Jackson might have been better at one time than he is now...but he isn't anymore... and Battle is ok but not great... Lelie has never proven he can be consistent in the nfl...
Darrell Jackson might have been better at one time than he is now...but he isn't anymore... and Battle is ok but not great... Lelie has never proven he can be consistent in the nfl...
But i'll say it again just for you, IT'S BETTER THAN WHAT VINCE YOUNG HAS.

Wanna know how many games Alex Smith has thrown over 300 yds champ? None.

Jackson is still better than Gage, Moulds. Ditto with Battle.

You can say it all you want bro but your taking 2 shitty things and trying to pick out with is better. 49ers maybe 25% shitty while the Titans are 24% shitty. Either way you look at it they are both very shitty, so it's hard to pick out a clear cut winner.

I think a good/solid QB will make everyone else around him play very good.

Wow, CBS really screwed up the TV schedule this week. Can you tell me why Jets v. Pats is playing in all N. Illinois?

I think Bills v. Browns looks like the most intruiging matchup this week, other than Jacksonville v. Pittsburgh, of course :)

A public execution makes better theatre than two marginal teams no one cares about. The Patriots are going to drop their pants and lower their ass over the face of the Jets.

Even better there's a nor'easter hitting sunday. I heard 1-2 feet of snow and winds up to 30 mph. Luckily I'm leaving town by then but it sucks I won't be able to watch the game.

It's an epidemic amongst Boston fans. A few years ago they all hated New York fans and the "Evil Empire", now that things have turned and their teams are dominant they've become the arrogant cocks.

Boston has turned into New York. That's really the bottom line.

John Kerry is the man. He is trying to put the NFL network in its place and stop the owners from being the greedy assholes that they are. I hope he can get the cable companies and the NFL to fix this diaster.
so you think the 49ers receivers stats are better than the titans??
There Stats should be pretty close because both teams don't have QBs to get there weapons the ball.

That might be the funniest thing I have read all year.

So friggin' true. New England is all you here about in ALL forms of sports (except hockey, but who watches that? ;) ). The Patriots will self-destruct in a few years and NE will be out of the football spotlight. Sorry (sarcasm) Pats fans, but history often repeats itself... and then instead of gloating about your own team, you'll do the typical New England snobbery and find another team to mouth off about.

They will have salary cap issues in a couple of years just like the 49ers did. We all know how good the 49ers have been since then ;)

I doubt it, they'll probably save it for Miami :p

Seeing how Miami has self-destructed, they might do it by accident.
