The Nintendo DS will be $129.99 just in time for Nintendogs. I believe the drop occurs 8/21, but it might be sooner. More info soon.

Update - TRU is sending out a flyer for it. It's advertised $129.99, but will be $129.95. The ad is basically for Nintendogs and includes a $10 off $50 NINTENDO purchase coupon(should work on the hardware, so you could get it for $119.95 - last years worked on hardware and I don't think it says excludes hardware). The flyer is only going out to R-zone best guests, though, and should arrive at homes next week. The coupon SKN is 913747.

Update 2 - I figured I might as well post this here, too, since it's more Nintendo news. There are two new items listed in the TRU computer. There is a "GC Ltd Ed PK XD Bundle" listed. The Bundle is priced at $99.99 with no date yet, but at least it looks like Nintendo is going to be trying this Christmas. Also, a GBA SP Sponge Bob system is listed.

Update 3 - The price drop is actually occuring this week. Probably Wednesday or Thursday. It is universal, also. Second, if you do get the $10 off coupon from TRU in the mail it WILL work on the system, so you can get it for $119.95 making it an even better deal. Also, TRU is going to do a special bundle deal for the drop that might make it even better(probably with the Pro Gamers Kit and something else).

Update 4 - Alright this should be the last update for this deal. Here is the bundle TRU is doing for the drop. On Sunday you can get a DS + Spiderman + the Starter Kit (normally $15 and includes headphones, car charger, and screen protector) for only $150 (normally $175). On Tuesday for Nintendogs its the same deal except substitute any Nintendogs game for Spiderman. Hopefully somewhere else has an even better deal, but for now that might be the best. Normally the DS + Nintendogs would cost $160, so you save $10 off the bat plus you get the Starter Kit free basically and if you have the $10 off coupon it would only be $140 making it that much better.

Bundle is only $130 online:

And thanks to everyone in this thread. I honestly think CAG did make Nintendo announce it earlier as usually the drops have been announced by Nintendo around a day before. Thanks and I'm sure to have even more news first for you guys.
PSP is expensive because of the movie features and others of course now if they took those out...
Movie playback, MP3 playback, etc, don't add to the price. It's not like they have hardware MP3 or MP4 decoders, it's all software, which doesn't add to the cost per-unit any more than the operating system adds to the cost.
GameStop? You mean GameSpot.

I assume that's a typo and not the absence of the ability to read. ;)
correct... I always confused between the 2... when typing so fast.. don't notice... til the page loads...

Good news. My brother wants a DS, and he has been waiting for a deal on one. He loves Advance Wars, so with the price drop and Advance Wars: Duel Strike coming out he may buy one.

I guess Nintendo really wants to hammer home that price difference come the holiday season. The DS is worth it even just to see the GBA games on the backlight screen. It made a world of difference for Castlevania Circle of the Moon. I have had mine since launch and don't regret it one bit.

On a side note although I'm sure GTA will sell some PSPs....its hard to compare it to the PS2 and GTA III. Mainly because GTA III was something pretty new and radical at the time which after sequels will fail to have that freshness and buzz about it.

Whoopee! My birthday's next week; we almost bought it Saturday, but I'm glad I waited!!! Now I can get an extra game too.

Hmmm...just got a letter from Nintendo's PR company.
They wanted some general background info on CAG.

Maybe they are gonna send Miyamoto-san to my apartment to yell at me for posting the DS news article. Better hide Mrs. Cheapy's lipstick!

No, it'll be Reggie to kick your ass and take your name.

This is good news, since I have been thinking of picking one up soon. This will be my first portable system since my game gear. I didn't think I would get enough use out of a portable, but I had jury duty recently and have been on a couple recent car trips where a portable would have been great.

How come Miyamoto's DS looks so much sharper than all of ours? They're holding out on us!

You might want to thank photoshop for that.
Does anyone know if the SP will finally drop in price as well
I doubt it. I figure they'll launch the Micro at $49.99, covering the low-end GBA market. Unless the Mricro launches high and the SP drops. But that's just stupid.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050816/wr_nm/nintendo_dc

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Nintendo Co. Ltd. on Tuesday said it cut the U.S. price of its Nintendo DS portable video game device by 13 percent to about $130 from about $150.

The price cut, which is effective August 21, comes nine months after the launch of the pocket-sized device, which opens like a clamshell and has two screens, one of which responds to touch.

It competes in the rapidly growing gaming market with Sony Corp.'s PlayStation Portable and Nintendo's own Game Boy Advance.

Does anyone else think there may be a Black Friday deal for DS? I'd hate to buy now than have some explosive deal later on.

After all, Ecost did have that $100 AR deal and I passed on that, so I am going to keep waiting..

Better, newer, smaller technology will never release BELOW current technology.
Better, newer, smaller technology will never release BELOW current technology.
Why would the Micro, which is the smaller of the two GBA systems, even if it's packing the best screen on a GBA (according to Nintendo), end up priced higher than the SP?

SP has a bigger screen and better battery life (theoretically, since there's less space for a battery), which would make me think it would be a higher priced item, even though it's larger.

$49.99 or $59.99 for the GBA Micro makes sense to me.
Just a guess, but I'm thinking this was released early due to the CAG story. Seems like too much of a coincidence that their PR company contacted me yesterday.
lol

Nice.

I got nothing better to do ;).
Besides, I have no idea who tubtub is and I have no intention of finding out.

With this drop you would be able to get a DS and 3 games (average of $35) for less than a PSP. 4 games if you get in when they bundle a game in with the system. That's pretty crazy. I wonder if Sony will stick to their guns now on pricing.

I couldn't find the quote, but I remember reading somewhere that Nintendo is planning on pricing the GBM higher than the GBA SP. First, it sounds like it will probably include their MP3/Video adapter. And 2nd, they said their manufacturing costs for it will probably be as high, if not higher than the GBA. I'm reciting what I can from memory, but I would definitely expect the GBM to be higher priced than the GBA SP.

I'm really curious now what will happen to the DS bundles out now? I'm really tempted to run to Wal-Mart and get one now... then get the difference back on Monday, if that's even possible.

I've been thinking of doing this at Best Buy if they have the bundles. They definitely price match price drops and the bundle is just the system. I'm just not sure if they'll be dicks.

I guess I'll give it a try. Hopefully, it will just ring up as a system. Besides, if I don't open it at all, there shouldn't be any issues with returning it. Now I just have to decide... Cobalt or Silver.

That would explain why it would be higher. Given those facts, I'd see the Micro go at $80-100, and the SP slide down to $50.

Nice CAG is getting huge if Nintendo is moving up announcements because of us. :D Nice work Cheapy!!

I hope Sony rethinks their stance on PSP pricing. I want one, but I am not touching it until it drops to $150.
You mean there isn't a confirmed price for the micro yet? I've been to a few sites and I thought it was confirmed as $99.
That would be a confirmed price if they didn't want to see any. The DS is $30 more and the SP would be $20. There's no $99 market there for the Mirco.

The local Wal-Mart had a ton of Cobalt DS systems with Mario DS. I'll let everyone know what happens when I try and get them to refund the $20 when the price drop happens. I am getting anxious to open it. :)

Does this mean those of us who preordered Nintendogs and bought a DS from overstock.com with that discount actually got screwed in the end?
