I guess some fans can never be satisfied. Nintendo seems to have addressed the two of the biggest complaints about the Wii (HD graphics, 3rd party support) and people still complain.
People shrug about the games, which I can kinda understand, but what is left unsaid about the impact of what they showed is that a year before the console is out that there is some bigtime 3rd party support coming on line and they have time to actually play with the new controller to find the best uses for it. That should hearten anyone who was frustrated with 3rd party support with the Wii.
Also, there are many who just assume that this will be on par with the other two consoles and no better, with really nothing to back that up. We are really too early in the process to judge that either way, considering that there are no playable games at this point.
I'm not really the prime market for this just yet, since I usually play a generation behind anyways (I only bought my Wii last year and only just picked up a PS3 after playing with my PS2 for a while.) but for me, Nintendo didn't disappoint, by addressing their most glaring needs while yet again offering something new to the gameplay experience.
Yeah, they decided to make a console more towards their core audience while keeping a gimmick alive so the people who jumped on the Wii bandwangon will buy this one -- that's fantastic! (No sarcasm, really)
But, before people get boners and start passin' around the lube, what about the other issues? Some things haven't been addressed either for or against so we can at least speculate.
-Will we be able to carry our VC and WiiWare purchases -- and saves -- over to the Wii U?
-Backwards compatibility is always a great thing, but what about those pesky game saves that we don't want to delete, and (currently) are unable to move to an SD card? Why would I put a ton of hours into Smash Bros, want to play Brawl on my Wii U.. but not be able to carry my save? That needs to be addressed.
-What about an online service? If they want to target the 'core' audience, we need an online system. This means give us a friggin username! I don't
mind paying for the service, as long as it's good, stable, and well worth whatever the cost may be. Achievements/Trophies ARE a good thing, but they aren't entirely needed. Friend codes were a great idea if the Internet was brand new, but it's not. Give us names and friends lists, please.
-What about disc space? I understand there will be SD cards and I think USB storage (??), but will there be any restrictions? Do we have to go two years into that system before they fix the solution?
-What is NINTENDO going to offer? Sure, whatever PS3/4 and Xbox 360/720 get, will most likely appear on the Wii U -- that's great! -- but are they going to continue to give us waggle games? Games that we just.. shake this device up and down? Or now will they give us where we just have to aim the controller at the screen "see" stuff and hit A to win?
There's so much more. This is why I find it hard to be so excited, or totally against. We don't know anything about it... and to be honest, I'm a bit reluctant to like it.. because they lured me into their van with tales about motion controls being amazing. I got molested. I don't want to be molested again.
That Zelda game alone would make me buy the system...but I can't help to wonder how much an extra Wii Tablet controller will run at. I can't see it going less than $100 even at $100 it seems cheap.
I don't know how I feel about paying $100 for a controller, though

I understand this isn't a normal controller, but still. On paper, you would be paying $100 for a controller..and that's gross!
