FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.
So they do give codes on Sunday.

Well, 2am, and nothing yet. I also haven't gotten the code for a trade accepted Saturday AM.

At least we're in this together - if one of us had gotten it and not the other that would be more reason to worry ;).
I'll let you know when I receive mine.:lol:

Well, just after 2am I got an email from Amazon titled "Get a $30 Video Game Credit". No, it wasn't the code I was expecting - it was an ad for the trade-in program #-o.

LOL
Did you really have to scare me like that? :bomb:

Edit: WTH, I just got the same email.

I was tricked by the same email!

Being that this would be my first $30 coupon to arrive (I have only received the 50% off so far), I didn't know what the email would look like. I'm still waiting on my code for the trade that was accepted early morning on the 6th...

you can put all packages in a mail box or give to a postal carrier to ship no matter what class. It's the same as the clip n ship program.

I have qualifying trade-ins that were accepted on the 5th and 6th and have yet to receive a $30 off coupon. So you August 7th'ers have nothing on me. What especially sucks is that Wii Sports Resort showed up in my Goldbox on Saturday. With a $30 off credit and a $10 off coupon, plus ECA it would have been free. Ah well, even without the goldbox I'll be playing something under $2 for it once I do get my first coupon. :)

Damn, so no one's received their coupon yet? My trade-ins haven't got to them yet anyway. I was hoping to use my credit towards Wolfenstein which is suppose to come out on the 18th. I guess I don't have to get it right away though since I still have Call of Juarez 2 to play.

Man, the USPOS still haven't updated tracking for either of my last two trades and if that's because it's really been sitting at the MA sorting facility for a week, that's pathetic. I may have to start paying for shipping, but I was very pleased when my first trade arrived within a week. Did I just get lucky on that one or does it normally take two weeks?

That happened to me on a free shipping order from buy.com. The package sat in the NJ sorting center for 9 business days. My first two trade ins took 2-3 days each from NJ, the last one I just sent on Thursday, so we will see when they receive it. I think now with people going back to school, there are more orders and mail going through, which is pushing back media mail. I hope the package gets accepted soon and I get the coupon, since I would like to preorder madden and get the $10 gift card.

I still got a 50% code to trade. Hoping for 2 $30 coupons or something worth my while.

If they put out standalone GH5 drums I might get those, if amazon gets them listed before the coupon expires. No chance on that, or if borderlands gets a CE and its looking like that is not going to happen either.

All of my shipments have (knock on wood) arrived and been accepted within 7 days. However, this probably is dependent on where you are (I'm East Coast, FYI), whether or not you wear cologne, and which direction the wind is blowing. Media Mail can be very slow.

Anyone know if they accept N64 games without the box and instructions?

I would doubt it. They've sent back Gameboy games without boxes. If anyone has complete copies of these, I highly doubt they'd trade them in for $13 or $19.

Yeah, they need to set the trade-in value a lot higher for 64 games if they want them complete. I've got a complete Mario Party 2, but there's no way I'd send that in for $12 even if it bumped a trade over $60. Ditto for my complete Majora's Mask and Super Mario 64.

On a different note, I've emailed customer support about my as yet undelivered $30 coupons. I'll report what they respond with.

I got mine last Wednesday morning (which along with Saturday morning seems to be a common time to get promo codes from Amazon) after receiving notification Monday afternoon that my trade-ins had been accepted.

If anyone doesn't have a code yet, give it until Wednesday morning & then worry :)

So I read the OP and the last 2 pages of this thread. Advice on the following would be appreciated. I have not used the Amazon trade in program yet. I would like to trade in Halo Wars for a 50% off coupon to put towards pre order of Modern Warfare 2 prestige NVG badassness. However I realize it's getting towards the end of the month, and I am concerned about the following: 1. Will I get trade in credit and coupon on time to put it towards the Prestige edition? 2. If I get the coupon on time, do I have to pay the preorder on the Prestige edition in full? If not, if I only have to put down deposit, should I use the coupon at that time or wait to use it until I pay it off in full? Advice would be appreciated, and would an update as to those few who are still waiting on a coupon being credited.

Also, any word on how scratched a disc can be for it to be accepted?

Has anyone been able to add a $30 off code to an existing order? I finally got Halo ODST in my goldbox, but my recent trades still have not been accepted.

Wat! I don't have this email yet. They hate me :whee:

Ravenhawk, You can always cancel your old order, and place it again with the code. Or call Amazon, and they will do it for you.

IO, Thanks for the suggestion for the cheap game filler. I'll add it to the 2nd post.

Japakneez, thanks for the shipping address update.

NWgamer666, 50% trade-in promo is over... it's $30 coupon for every $ 60 trade-in now.

I just received my "Damaged Item - Cracked" last Saturday. It's a PSP game, and the UMD case is opened on the top part. I know that it wasn't open before but that thing is easy to break, especially when it's a GS refurb case. I didn't press the issue with Amazon since I traded the game back to GS and got even money after bonus.
Hmmm, see i suppose this is more ymmv, but here in Naperville, IL. I have put around 3 of these packages in my mailbox and put the flag up and had the mailman take it for me and delivery ended up fine.
I think Shrike is technically correct; However, my mail-carrier picks up postage due packages at my house no problem.

I've sent out a number of boxes via postage paid media mail and had my mail carrier pick them up, without ever having a problem. They were boxes of books, too, and therefore much heavier than the boxes of video games the people on this forum are presumably sending.

you can put all packages in a mail box or give to a postal carrier to ship no matter what class. It's the same as the clip n ship program.
Here's what I found on the USPS.com website:
USPS website info on carrier pickup.

The important part:
Mail Service Eligible for Carrier Pickup

Your letter-carrier can pickup packages and return merchandise using the following services:

·Domestic:
oExpress Mail® service
oPriority Mail® service
oParcel Post® and other packages may be picked up also when combined with Express Mail, Priority Mail or International Mail requests for pickup
oMerchandise Return Service
oParcel Return Service

·International (provided packages meet applicable International mailing requirements):
oGlobal Express Guaranteed®
oExpress Mail International®
oPriority Mail International®

Notes:
oMailpieces weighing more than 13 oz. bearing postage stamps for postage must be taken by the customer to an employee at a retail counter at a Post Office™, Contract Postal Unit, or Approved Shipper location.
oFor more tips on mailing internationally, please visit our International Resource Center.
I think because the pre-paid mailer is classified as a "merchandise return service" label, they can get away with picking it up by the postal carrier. Otherwise, they couldn't pick them up because they're media mail.

As long as they have a printed mailing label on the box and not covered with stamps, it should work for carrier pickup.
I think this may have been mentioned briefly earlier, but has anyone tried using the $30 off coupon on Xbox Live Points?
Yes it can be used on a Live Points card

But it can not be used on Live Points from the Digital Download store. Nothing from the Digital Download store will work. We can't use promos or ECA either.

OT: Does anyone know if amazon will ever sell PSN cards? I hope it isn't some agreement they have with M$ keeping them from selling those
Ravenhawk, You can always cancel your old order, and place it again with the code. Or call Amazon, and they will do it for you.
Thanks gi60, I'll put the order through now as Halo ODST is at $56.99. Hopefully they can process the coupon later, which should arrive Wednesday or Thursday of this week.
That happened to me on a free shipping order from buy.com. The package sat in the NJ sorting center for 9 business days.
Ha, damn. Well, I know it could take even longer, but they're holding up $200 in credit! Bastards. . .

I'll laugh if last week's trade arrives before the one that's two weeks old does.

I got one very early Thurs morning (1 am) from a trade accepted on early Tuesday AM. This was consistent with the other trades I made where the coupon followed almost exactly 2 days after acceptance of the games. It seems like from the reports here they haven't sent out any codes since then (Wed/Thurs) so I thought maybe there was nothing to worry about.

Until I saw this that is:
Well I just received my $30 coupon! Hope you guys get yours soon.
Well, damn, when were your trades accepted again?

In other news, the order they received from me on Saturday is still marked as "Processing". I thought that would be cleared up by the time I got on the computer today. It may be time to contact NorAm over that one, though I don't want to make too much of a fuss until it is absolutely necessary - maybe I'll give it some more time.

Shipped my last order out on Friday afternoon...received notice that it was accepted and credited the full amount today. Now I'm just waiting on my $30 promo...
Yeah, give it a shot and let us know how it goes. My gold box picks were much better 24hrs later. No need to use your coupons if you have no interest in actually keeping the pre-order. Canceling is easy as well.

I'm looking at my second account which has no purchase history. I rated and marked as owned on several gaming items....it still shows generic picks :bomb:
The experiment was a success!

Today my gold box after preordering was:

-Crackdown 2
-R & C Future
-Metroid Prime Trilogy
-1600 MS Points card

So I guess purchases are vital in getting good Gold Box picks.

My 3rd and last (currently) $30 coupon qualifying trade-in was accepted today. I've yet to have any trade-ins rejected including my previous trade-in for the 50% coupon [knocks on wood].

I also got a response from amazon on the $30 coupon issue, and of course what they say, paraphrased, is, "Be patient - it can be up to 10 days before you get your coupon." Extraneous details deleted in the following:

As you said, one of your trade-in was accepted on August 05 and the another accepted on August 06. Qualifying customers will be emailed their coupon code within 10 days after their trade-in has been accepted.

So, please wait for coupon code till August 15 for the Trade-In ID: XXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX and August 16 for the Trade-In ID: XXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX to arrive.

If you haven't received the coupon by that time, write back to us we will take appropriate action.

I just fired off an email to NorAm asking why my one submission has been stuck on "Processing" for 3 days. We'll see how responsive they are!

Thats way better than i ever got! :applause::applause::applause:

Today my gold box went to crap again. I only have one item in it! A futurama dvd. (My pre-order was for Gears of War 2 GOTY)

My 3 cart-only Final Fantasy VI Advance were just accepted.
$12.99 --> $24.00!!

Still no coupon for the trade-in accepted on the 7th though.

I'm messing around with Noram and its about to bite me in the butt

SHIPMENT 1: I have one order of four Saints Row 2 games with Hollywood Video coverart on its way there. I put a second trade order in this same box. Should hear back in a couple days.

SHIPMENT 2: Today i will drop off another order of games with coverart i printed myself. I just realized that the coverart has spanish and english on it! But it still has the same barcode as the normal english-only coverart. I think it will be fine. We'll know in a week

My problem is that i killed off almost all my color ink and now have to place an amazon order for replacements. I'll make sure to check it off so it doesn't count towards my recommendations. But i think it will probably kill my goldbox anyway :bomb:

Good luck with that ;). I just want them to accept the original, complete, near mint shipment they received on Saturday :bomb:.

Sent in a couple of packages a few days ago for the $30 promotion. Heres hoping i get the credit and the codes before my free trial of amazon prime expires near the end of the month.

wow, sent in a shipment on thurs and it arrived and got processed today. hopefully my 2 two shipments from fri will get there tommorrow.

for those who haven't used the 50% off coupon , they have the Turtle Beach X41 with the release date of 8/18. price is ~$200 before coupon(s).

My trade-in was accepted over a week ago now and I still haven't gotten my $30 off coupon in my email. Has this been happening to a lot of people?
My trade-in was accepted over a week ago now and I still haven't gotten my $30 off coupon in my email. Has this been happening to a lot of people?
Over a week ago? No - people have not been getting codes from stuff received from last Wednesday on, though. I had a package received last Tuesday and got the code Thurs AM. But they do seem to be a bit slower than usual right now with the codes.

Anyway - 2 more on the way today. I had to break down and buy some large bubble mailers yesterday - damn, hate that as it takes away from the overall value. But then again it saves me time scrounging up free boxes, padding them with stuff, and worrying that they are too big and will be inspected for possibly not containing qualifying media items ;). So maybe all that is worth $1.50 per package.

So, I sent in my items on the 7th. I should expect the games to be accepted by the 14th, correct?

And then the coupon by how many days? I really would like to put the coupon towards AA: Collectors Edition...

I'm not sure where your expectation of "accepted by the 14th" comes from. It really depends on where you live in relation to Hudson, MA. And on top of that media mail is highly variable. But since I'm on the West Coast I wouldn't expect them to receive the games until after the 14th. 7 days would be bare minumum record time ;). if you are in the East, and particularly in the NE, then yeah, they probably will get there by then.

Still no coupon for the trade-in accepted on the 7th though.
That gives me hope for the latest N64 Mario Party promos...I think I'll take my chances and send them in.
Good luck with that ;). I just want them to accept the original, complete, near mint shipment they received on Saturday :bomb:.
Thanks!

Quick FYI for everyone in here:

If you find yourself buying packaging then try going with priority mail (2-3 day shipping). They should have a large flat rate bag at your PO. The shipping cost is only $4.95 no matter the weight. You can even fit boxes inside this bag and it will ship fine. If you are sending games i would at least bubble wrap them.

Ok, i actually sent in 3 trade orders in one shipping box today. Almost got denied for delivery confirmation but luckily i brought my receipt from the last time i got DC added. She saw that then looked at the shipping label again and then agreed that it was possible to add. The clerk right next to her also said it was possible. So far everything is going great :D

This is definitely a guaranteed way of getting DC added to your package, but this is CAG afterall, and both WalMart and Target (from what I've found) carry some great shipping boxes for about $1.20-1.40. I was able to ship 5 Wii games last time around perfectly. I guess I'm too cheap to even pay extra for shipping :p

I have a ridiculous backlog of games but i think i found a good way to get through them. I just added Condemned 2 to one of my trade orders. I now have 6 days to beat it lol! :cold:

it only gets $3.50 TIV

Thanks Z(+)DIAC i'll definitely check out those boxes. Gives me a good reason to go to Walmart....other than being the only place that still stocks Totino's Pizza

Yeah, but I don't want to pay $4.95 either ;). I'd rather pay $1.59 for the bubble mailers I got yesterday. I'll actually end up getting them cheaper when this store has B2G1 on mailing supplies which they do from time to time.

I am going to be sending in a LOT of submissions this week (all the EO/Star Wars stuff from last week).

I'll check out what Target has for mailers. I gave up on them a while ago when they kept jacking up the price of the small bubble mailers I use for sending single games. At other stores I have not seen any boxes that are big enough that cost less than $3 or $4. That's why I went with the padded envelopes (can hold 4 games and they cost $1.59). I did put cardboard inside to help protect the games though. If I had more time I'd ask for small boxes from retailers (stuff they are going to get rid of anyway from shipments/restocking) but I don't have time for that before I have to send everything out this week.

I got impatient after not getting my 2nd $30 trade in code and called Amazon (I love calling Amazon because usually they help me out a LOT).

Unfortunately, the guy I got today just didn't understand what I was talking about. I explained to him the promotion 3 times (which, he seemed totally clueless on) and after wasting 15 minutes with him I waited 10 minutes on the phone to speak to a manager. The manager applied $30 to my account +$10 for the trouble (No word though about not sending me the email for the additional code).

So, I got $40 gc to amazon AND...possibly getting the email cause the manager didn't seem to know wtf I was talking about, so $70 bonus?
Thats an over 100% profit to the $66 I traded in. Which ALREADY was a 32.5% profit on its own without any promo due to my flip of 3 copies of spiderman WOS and blazblue.

In short, if I get the email: 170% profit. Hope I get this email >_
