FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

This stinks. No one should trade in until they run some kind of promo. Anything. Trade in 2 Wii, get an extra $10 or whatever. Thats the only way I will even bother. GS always has some promos going on, and with tierd trade in, Batman will get you $45.

I posted a few days ago that I was concerned that the promos were designed to spark initial interest in the trade-in program. I didn't want to be right, but I'm afraid I may have been.
Amazon Newbie Question - At checkout I had an extra "Promotion applied -$0.00" which I am guessing is the $10 video game credit promotion with the purchase of Guitar Hero 5. Now, when I go to view my order, that promotion isn't there anymore. Should I worry, or is it natural? Thanks!
I think I had the same thing. I ended up getting my $10 promo email today. However, they just sent me a notice saying there is some problem with the shipment and I won't get it today. So much for "release date delivery". I don't mind so much on GH5, but they better not do that with Beatles Rock Band.

So, I figured I'd be better off asking this here than in the GH5 thread. I assume this automatic $10 off promo will not stack with a $30 coupon code? So if I want to make use of the $10 off I'll have to order a cheaper DS game (where I wouldn't normally use a $30 code). If it does stack, I may go with the Demon's Souls LE preorder finally - tired of waiting for that to show up in my recently worthless Gold Box quick picks. Though looking right now I do have FF Versus XIII again - sign, I just want the regular one! I have that, the new Ratchet & Clank which I'd prefer to wait for GH status on, and Infiinite Space for the DS again, which I may go ahead and preorder this time (passed on it before). All of these are repeats I've had 2 or 3 times before.
That promotion -0.00 could be just a mysterious hiccup with the system, but if so no luck for you - I just ordered Wii Fit Plus and I got a mysterious -$3.02 promotion applied that there is no mention of anywhere that I can find! The price is shown as $19.99 and I also got the ECA discount (-2.00), so my total was $14.97 shipped (with Prime). Woohoo!
Now, the $3.02 promo could be left over from a $30 code you applied to an order that was $26.98. Look at the order before your Wii Fit and see if that is what happened. But hold the phone, are you saying the Wii Fit Plus (game only I assume) is only $19.99 at Amazon? I never played the first one (I really should have traded it to GS when they had the bonus promo) but I might get the update if it is so cheap.
I'd still much rather have amazon trade in credit than BBV or GS credit...
Well, good news then - check out the BB/GR thread. We don't know what is now $14.99 or less at BBV but there are sure to be a few goodies in there (B1G1 starts Thursday).

Oh, in an unrelated bit of news, I had my penultimate shipment under the $30 promo code accepted today. Just like all my other UPS shipments it took exactly 8 days. Since they apparently just generated a bunch of codes last night who knows how long it will take to get this one ;). I should have my last shipment getting there tomorrow.

More Amazon order wackiness...

I ordered Tales of Vesperia on my account with Prime 2-day shipping and on my wife's account with super saver shipping. Today I got my wife's order, for which they never even said it had shipped yet. Meanwhile the ones they supposedly shipped me on Saturday via 2-day shipping aren't here yet ;).
^I believe they don't deliver on Saturday since they're using UPS.
That may be it - yet another strike against UPS. They mailed the "free shipping" package Saturday I guess, via USPS but couldn't mail the "2-day" expedited UPS shipment till Monday ;).

UPS does deliver on Saturday but only if you specifically pay for Saturday shipping. It's only an option when you place a order on Friday though.

Actually, it does stack. I used the guitar hero 5 $10 credit along with a $30 coupon to get COD4 and Batman and it applied both coupons with no problem. I was actually surprised that it did stack.

Ah, thanks! Looks like I can finally put in that Demon's Souls LE preorder then. Though the cheapass in me says to give it more time to show up in my Gold Box quick picks. :whistle2:k...

The thing is, I'm guessing the $10 promo will get in the way of other things I want to do. For example, if I try to preorder Infinite Space it will apply there and then when I put the $30 code on top it will only use part of that. Man, that's actually kind of annoying - I wonder why they didn't give these $10 promos as codes just like the trade-in stuff? You'd think that would be better for them anyway since people can lose those as opposed to the automatic $10 off.

Damn that game! Got Versus through bogus pre-ordering in my box, but after getting 1 game 2 days a row in there (though I don't care about peace walker), I got junk today. Nooooooooo :twoguns:

Lol if you click the "fix this" link in your recommendations, you can see everything that makes the game appear. It's there for like 2 or 3 pre-orders and 8 other rated/"I own" games. Come on amazon, you know I want it!

Oh, Demon's Souls is always near the top of my Recommended Items, but just refuses to show up in the quick picks.

Yeah I only have 3 items left, after versus showed up. I'm not sure if it's better to limit it or not but I doubt I'll have enough money for like 10 games even with some discounts and eca. I didn't have the massive trade-ins like you guys =P

Hey guys...everyone send a short n' sweet email out to amazon asking for another Trade-In promotion. Here is the link...look at the right side and click on 'Contact Us'

Hmm, I don't know if that would be my definition of stacking since it appears that you bought 2 games. So unless you used 2 $30 codes and the $10 code, we don't know for sure that it stacks.

I think the real question is will the GH5 $10 stack on a $30 coupon when you order one game. That would be $40 off plus ECA which would make a $60 game, $14.

Ah - yes, that explains it. I thought that extra amount was just lost - I had purchased The Sims as the deal of the day the other day and it was just under $30. The ECA discount dropped it below $30, so that was the leftover. Nice. Glad to see that I didn't lose it after all.

Yes, the price for Wii Fit Plus game-only is $19.99. That's the retail price, not just Amazon.
Oh, Demon's Souls is always near the top of my Recommended Items, but just refuses to show up in the quick picks.
have you tried preordering dragon origins? im going to follow that plan once my gold box games goodies turn back into pumpkin duds again. i followed someone else's advice here to get uncharted by getting ass's creed.

damn if they had a trade in promotion trade in MGS4 and batman for those values. i'd be making a profit on batman since i got the extra $10 plus the ECA and $5 discount.

$37.50 for Batman is insanely nice. (After the $10 + $5 + ECA = $32.70 was what I paid. Assuming another $60/$30 promo equivalent... Batman = $37.50 + $18.75 = $56.25... Ridiculously awesome.)

Quick question:

If I cancel an order that I paid entirely with credit, do I get that credit back?

Thanks

I did my last $60/$30 trade for Batman + 2 Vesperia = $61.50 at 10:58 pm on the 31st. I kinda felt like it was a nice end to this promo. I wonder if I can finish Batman in a week.

Yes, you can. Takes one or two days on normal. Maybe the challenge rooms or Riddles will be a problem.

Looks like amazon is the best place to buy Left 4 Dead GOTY. I locked in two trade orders at 11:58pm last night right before the promo ended . After ECA it will cost me $27 in amazon credit each to buy. I need 6 of them and will put in two separate orders to complete this flip...

ORDER 1 - Left 4 Dead GOTY x 3 (will use ECA & $30 coupon) Total $51
ORDER 2 - Left 4 Dead GOTY x 3 (will use ECA & $30 coupon) Total $51

Total Cost $102
Final Credit $150 (Amazon TIV was $25 each)

So this will net me a $48 increase in credit. I will use up two $30 coupons but will get two $30 coupons back a week later. Its a 1.5 flip :D

damn todays DotD was Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, which would have been $27 after ECA, and a TIV of $25...but since there's no promo there's no reason to flip n lose $2.

what is going on with my GH5 shipment which I upgraded to release day delivery, which was YESTERDAY.

Tracking says

shipped the 31st
received in Nevada on the 31st, then a delay due to external factors. I called ups and they said it as for a mechanical failure of a plane.

departs NV on the 1st and F'kin goes backwards and arrives in Kentucky 1:48am sept 2nd. WTF is that? Should I called Amazon and ask for a refund on the shipping or what?

Its still estimated to arrive yesterday.

Same thing happened to me but I haven't checked it since the mechanical failure deal.

Didn't Amazon send you an update earlier Tuesday saying it wouldn't arrive due to circumstances beyond their control? I got one of those.

Edit: Yep, same thing with mine going to Kentucky which is even more in the wrong direction for me than it is for you!

September 2, 2009 01:33:00 AM LOUISVILLE KY US Arrival Scan

August 31, 2009 05:51:00 PM RENO NV US Shipment received by carrier
August 31, 2009 03:26:35 PM Fernley NV US Shipment has left seller facility and is in transit

Now, since I have Prime I didn't pay for the release date delivery. In your case if you actually paid for it I'd definitely demand a refund of the shipping cost!

yeah, I'm gonna send them an email as I paid $6 for that shit too.

UPDATE: It says it just arrived in Anaheim, CA. Ok fine I can deal with a one day delay since UPS said it was mechanical failure. So hopefully yours was just a mix-up with the system as well io.

Submitted a trade to amazon. Let's say a new promo comes out in like 2 days, if they don't receive my package till after that, would I still get it?(assuming I qualify for the amount traded) Or is that up in the air?

Goldbox screwed me again today, sigh.
how do you guys know what time you locked in your trade?
well, i usually get an email right after i send a trade request or edit it.

typically they will work with you. they have for me before

Well, I just preordered Infinite Space and at first I saw the $10 GH5 promo credit there along with the gold box discount. I applied the ECA code and it was still there. But then I applied a $30 code and it went away, replaced by a -$29.74 promo (to cover the rest of the cost).

That's still not proof that it doesn't stack, though, since it might have just removed it since the other promo covered the whole cost. Just to be sure it was still there I added another game into my cart afterwards and the $10 promo showed back up again.

So I guess until someone orders a single $50+ game we won't know for sure if the $10 GH5 and $30 trade-in promos stack.

Tsk, tsk. You could have got each for $24 after tax using the Best Buy BOGO half off. . .

What is the last day that they must receive games by to qualify for the +$30 promotion (I have two locked in trades that qualify, but wasn't there a date by which they had to receive the games?) I may fill one out by purchasing two new copies of Left 4 Dead from amazon, which with ECA come to $25.xx shipped via prime and my locked in value is $20 each (I still end up with, effectively a bonus $20), and I'm wondering if I could get them to them in time, especially since I put the trade in as shipping via Media Mail.

The arrival time isn't as important as the postmark date. It has to be before the seven day deadline.

I sent in an order to get in on the $30 promo. Just got an email today that two of my games were rejected due to the UPC (I dunno what's up with that). Will Amazon charge me to ship the rejected games back?

Nope they should send them back to you free of charge.

Strange though, I've never heard of this issue before. I assume it deals with something along the lines of a missing UPC (mail-in-rebate), a difficult to read/scan UPC, or a UPC that doesn't match the game?

Hello,

I am planning to make my first trade in with Amazon and I read the original post. First, thanks to everyone that works on this tread, it is really helpful. I was waiting to get my rebates back on some games and now it seems I missed the boat for the $30 coupon, I thought I had till the 31, so I wasn't in a hurry, first mistake

Anyhow, I have a question and I wasn't certain on the answer from the first post, so I just wanted to ask to confirm. I have Halo 3 Limited Edition that I am planning to trade, however, they don't list the limited edition on the site to trade in, just the regular version. From the first post it mentions you can trade the GOTY version if there are not two separate entries on the site for the game and you can trade limited editions if they have a UPC, so I wasn't sure if they would accept the Limited Edition for Halo 3 or not.

I was hoping to my copy of Buzz Quiz TV toward the $30 coupon as well, but they don't have that for trade even without the controllers, so I may have to trade some things in with Best Buy or something as well.

Thanks again!

I sold Gears Of War 2 and sent in the collectors edition, they took it. Things change though so I would say wait for a few more responses from recent trade-in's since I did this about two months ago.
Tsk, tsk. You could have got each for $24 after tax using the Best Buy BOGO half off. . .
it would have been $49.50 cash from bestbuy vs. $54 credit from amazon. The choice was obvious for me. I don't wanna use any more cash than i have to ;)

I guess if all you wanted was to work your credit and could get it shipped in time without incurring overhead, then yes. In terms of leverage, I can't make this deal worth it for me without high risk, especially since I missed out on the $25 lock.

Thanks. I may send it in if I have plenty of extra just in case. Best Buy is offering a lot less for the collector's edition, so I would rather just sent it to Amazon.

I came up with another question as well. I know that the games need to be in good shape, with the manual and everything. All my gamers are in perfect shape, only having been played once and all the original papers are with them, however, I was going to trade out a few of my cases that are damaged from some of the good ones that are on the games I'm trading, will they deduct some of the value from the game for this?

Thanks again!

I have L4D locked in at $20 for my last $30 promo trade. I can't see any way to fulfill that (don't want to pay the $24 each at Best Buy as that's only a very slight gain after factoring in the $30 coupon and I like to make sure I at least break even on the original trade-in value).

If anyone has any ideas let me know ;). There's the chance, however slight, of a decent coupon at GS this week which would give me one day (Friday) to buy and then mail the games.

In other news, I'm doing my first Gazelle trade submission today. I see they are also in MA and also provide UPS shipping labels - so I guess I have another 8 days to wait to see if that goes OK .
