Official "Donate Games to the Troops in Iraq" Thread

Well, big update for today.

I received 2 packages today:

Thorbahn3 sent us the following brand new games:

-Puffy Amiyumi Kaznapped :gba:
-Spy Hunter / Super Sprint :gba:
-Duel Masters Kaijudo Showdown :gba:
-Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 :ps2:
-A special DVD containing good ol' fashion pr0n:twisted:

Briansraregames was also kind enough to send his raffle prize from the Child's Play drive. I received a new copy of Rainbow 6: Vegas :360:

I brought the following games to one of the Seabee Battallions here on base:
-Splinter Cell: Double Agent :360:
-Rainbow 6: Vegas :360:
-Saint's Row :360:
-Virtua Tennis 3 :360:

They have over 250 Seabees here and recently received a complete entertainment package from MWR. That is the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation protion of the Armed Forces that tries to keep troops busy with entertainment and morale boosting activities. They were a little dry on games so I contact their Command's MWR representative and made a visit to drop off the games. They will be added to their local library and I was told that this stuff will stay in Iraq for the next Unit and so on. They are also placing labels on the cases that will say where the games were donated from.

Here is a picture of a fellow Seabee and E-6 with myself during the meeting. Come to find out she is already a member of the site and an avid gamer so I hope to see her jump in and say thanks:

And here is a picture of the entertainment center they received complete with an HDTV, stereo/home theatre, and whatever else is there. Not bad at all:

Side topic:
Rob, thanks for sending out Rainbow 6 on briansraregames' behalf. I see you are from Shrewsbury. I am from Worcester (Grafton Hill/Plantation St) and my grandmother actually lives in Shrewsbury so I know exactly where you live. I used to work at the Navy Reserve Center on the corner of Lincoln St and Plantation St. before moving out to California. Small World!

Awesome, awesome stuff. Cool to see two CAGs travel halfway across the world and meet one another under the same heritage.

Also, someone needs to post a sign next to the new TV:

"Please do not discharge your sidearm in response to losing on the 360"

I don't think Elvis is still enlisted. But yeah, no Ninja Gaiden.
And happy to hear you got the games.

Yeah, DBZ 3 got snatched up quick. This guy came into my office to pick up some material he ordered (lumber) and saw the game on my desk. Then he went into this 20 minute speech and summed up the entire series minus GT and the movies. I was just sitting there listening to him talk not telling that I watched all the episodes about 10 years ago...hehe.

Cool, thanks for sharing. I hope the person you give the porn to (if you do)doesn't talk about DP for ten minutes.

Small world indeed. My brother was in the Navy during Desert Storm/Shield so I know you guys can get pretty bored over there. BTW, you should be getting another package from me care of Gamestop. Hopefully the package arrives in one piece.
To my surprise, I had a package addresses to me from Wombat himself. Opened it up to find the following for our troops:

Saints Row :360:
Virtua Tennis 3 (New & Sealed) :360:

Love the pic, I hope you guys enjoy the games, you sure do deserve em

Well CAG was down and so were we so I couldnt post if I wanted to. We had 10% of our normal (already slow) bandwidth because a cable somewhere was cut. It seems fixed so that is good news. No email for 4 days can drive ya crazy!
Just want to update the thread. I received a package from Izzard Lizard that contained the following 24 games:

PS2 :ps2::
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
NCAA Marsh Madness 2005
Power Drome
NCAA COllege Football 2k3
NHL FaceOff 2003
SpyHunter
Deus Ex
Gran Turismo 3
High Heat 2002

Xbox :xbox::
Brute Force
Crimson Skies
ESPN Football 2k4
Jade Empire: Limited Edition
NCAA College Basketball 2k3
NCAA Football 2005
New Legends
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004
Unreal Championship
Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
World Championship Poker
World Series Baseball 2k3

Xbox 360 :360::
NBA 2k6
Perfect Dark

I also received a donation from Gamestop in Grapevine, TX. They were kind enough to send out a new and sealed copy of Rock Band Special Edition Bundle for the Xbox 360! I just wanted to say thank you to Izzard for sending out all the games mentioned above and a seperate thank you for both Izzard and Gamestop down there in Texas for sending out the Rock Band bundle. I am sure that it will get a lot of game play out here.

I also received a 2nd package from HotShotx. He sent out the following games:

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 :gc:
Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time :gc:
The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King :gc:
The Simpsons - Hit & Run :gc:
Tony Hawk's Underground :gc:
Madden 2002 :gc:

HotShotX, Thank you for another donation. If no one read up the previous posts, HotShotx was the 1st CAG to ship out any games to us and he was not only kind enough to ship then, but also to send out some more games. Much appreciated bro.

Here is a picture I took of some of the guys out here receving some games the other night for their Unit:

http://www.imagehosting.com/show.php/1552336_1001071.JPG.html

I am also going to send a package up to another area addressed to lunchbox so check your PMs lunch.

Lastly, I want to say "GO PATS" being from Massachusetts and all because them Patriots will run a muck of the Giants tonight. I have a bet with my LT that if they win he has to pressure wash our spaces and it the Giants win (he is from NYC) then I have to iron his uniform once a week for the next 3 weeks. We figured that would make up for the spread.

Very nice haul, neushane. I'm estimating this thread has pulled in about 45-50 games by now? Good stuff. Thanks again to all CAGs who have been chipping into this. Keep up the great work :)

~HotShotX

I hope you take a picture of some troops rocking out to Rock Band. Something about seeing a guy with a 9mm on his hip playing with a toy guitar seems funny to me. Kind of like how if Gene Simmons was seen playing Virtua Cop with a light gun while his Kiss make up on.

Guess you'll be ironing his uniform........

I can't believe that you even iron uniforms in Iraq......What type of job do you have over there?

Yeah, I can not believe they lost. God damn Mannings, I hate them all...LOL. I will admit, that scramble Eli got out of and then threw to his receiver that caught the ball with his hand and his helmet made the game. That one play decided the Giants victory. Great game just did not work out in the Pats favor. Now I get to listen to old ass '72 Dolphins on ESPN for the next 5 months or so.

Over here I work with a Seabee Condtruction Battalion in the Supply / Logistics division. I am an E-6 (1st Class) so you always want to set a good example for your junior troops or else they will think looking like a dirt bag is acceptable.

I put just a box together now i just need a little time to mail it out to you guys.

:ps2: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
:ps2: Madden 2001
:ps2: NBA Street Vol. 2
:ps2: Strike Force Bowling
:xbox: Amped
:xbox: FIFA Soccer 2004
:xbox: NCAA Football 2004 (Disc Only)
:gc: FIFA Street
:gc: Tony Hawk: Pro Skater 4

Edit: Does/Will this need a Customs form, and if so what information do i use to fill it out.

If it weighs more than a pound (6 games = 1 lb 14 oz), then it will require customs. However, I was told that they will supply the box for that, free of charge, since it's going to the military.

Outside of that, filling out the form is easy, just need your address and the receipient's address, nothing special.

DesertEagle, nice article. Between that and this thread, we should try to get some Diggs going about this.

Guess ill make it into 2 or 3 seperate packages as i think it'll be cheaper that way anyways. Im all about what ever is easiest.

neushane, I mailed a package your way this morning (Priority Mail from Atlanta) with a dozen PS2 games, a few Xbox games (I checked to make sure they're backwards compatible) and one Gamecube game for good measure.
Can we send NES, SNES, Gameboy and N64 games?
You can send out GB games but I dont think anyone has a NES, SNES or N64. We have some emulators on our shared drive that everyone uses :whistle2:$

DesertEagleXIX and Wombat, I can't see you articles because the sites are blocked out here. We can never have anything fun! I appreciate the word of mouth. I just wont be able to thank anyone outside of CAG. I will think of some way though.

It will actually be cheaper to send your package all in one. Especially if you have to pay more than $8.95 because that is the maximum cost for flat rate and the box will be free

Just glad to be able to help out. :D

Thanks for the opportunity to do so! I wouldn't have thought to send games without this thread. Its funny how we can miss the obvious so easily.

I don't currently have many games to give away, but perhaps a good stop by an EBGames/Gamestop could solve that. I don't think I will be going any time soon because of school, but when I do I will pick out some good stuff.

I have a couple copies of the orginal Halo laying around. Not sure if you are interested in that at all.

Here you go Neushane:

Be Like Wombat and Support Our Troops, With Games

This may come as a shock to you but there are no Gamestops or Bestbuys in Iraq. Yet many U.S. Troops stationed there are gamers, just like you and me. That is why I was happy to support this effort started by Cheapassgamer’s and the USMC’s Neushane. You see, he is collecting used games sent in by regular folks like us and distributing them to his fellow troops in Iraq. Want to know where to send your old games? Here is the address:
SK1 Shane Neuhaus

Trust me this is worth a lot more than any Trade-in credit at your local retailer.

Support Our Troops- With Games!

For many of our servicemen and women, being stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan can be a lonely experience. Everyone misses a wife, husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, child, or parent back in the United States. As many Tech-Gaming readers can attest, sometimes burying yourself into a video game can make time pass a little quicker. Sadly, for many of our servicemen, games are relativity scare; if games can be found overseas, their cost is usually prohibitive. Cheapassgamer Shane Neuhaus, a Navy Seabee, has started a small program to remedy this situation. He has created a small distribution network where the troops are receiving everything from original Playstation games to the latest Xbox 360 releases. Even Gamestop got into the giving, donating a Rock Band bundle recently. In return, Neuhaus sends a picture of your games in the hands of a smiling serviceman. All donated games are labeled with your name for all future players to see. If you would like to be a part of this program, please contact Tech-Gaming, or e-mail Neuhaus directly. With many older titles receiving a paltry fifty cents to a few dollars when traded in, couldn’t you spare a few games to those that would extremely appreciative?

Is PS2 too out-dated? Are ninja turtles and x-men too childish? I've got a couple sealed games that I could ship out.

I don't support this war at all, but I support you soldiers with every fiber of my being.
Is this tax deductible?
Give me a fuck - ing break.

neushane, this is an awesome idea and I'm excited to participate. I'll email you with some titles that I'll be mailing your way.

Should we up the ante here? How about a drive to donate some consoles/extra controllers/headsets as well? What would be useful?

Just saw this thread on the front page of CAG. Gonna check out some of the local GSs and Blockbusters and see what I can get and try to send it out later in the week.

neushane, i've got $250 to spend on ya'll. anything in particular you want? controllers? mass effect? gears of war? halo3? resistence? ratchet and clank? super mario galaxy? super smash bros brawl (next month)? or a hell of a lot of xbox, ps2, and gc games?

What, that's not a legit CAG question?

One break, coming up~!

just a recommendation, I know when we left out of there we left behind a lotta stuff that was donated to us (mags, a few games, dvds etc) with one of the units coming in (not with the unit that replaced us because they JUST got there and were saying aloud how they didnt wanna be there, it sux, and were planning on delaying the changeover as long as possible....... weak)

Just encourage those leaving to donate to those who are staying.

But we saw it this way, the stuff we did get would still be serving it's purpose (morale on the front lines) and we wouldnt appreciate it as much when we got home as we did as much as we did out there. Our company even started a 'Borrow bin' for DVDs books and mags.

just a suggestion, and thanks for taking on such a project. I know it means a lot of headache but it means a lot of relief to those away from home.

!!!!!!! wow where were you when I was playing in the sandbox!!! props to you!!

actually from my understanding it is, hard to prove since you don't get a reciept but keep a list of what you sent and estimated value when you turn in your taxes. Just like when you donate to good will etc, theres a block for donations and they rarely ask for proof but if so keep the shipping reciept and list on fie with your taxes.
What, that's not a legit CAG question?

This isn't a bad question for a cheapassgamer, but too answer it: neushane is a generous soldier doing this in his spare time, not an official non-profit organization. I donated to a place called Tiverton House at the UCLA medical center about a year ago and got a receipt for this purpose. I'm a 1040EZ kind of guy, but there are places like hospitals and stuff that will take your games and give you receipts to deduct from your taxable income. Hell there's always Goodwill, but this is a good cause where you know your games land into the hands of deserving and appreciative individuals.

it has to be to an approved tax exempt nonprofit. I used to work for a nonprofit environmental group and if someone specified that they wanted a tax deductable donation the donation could only be used for specific things. neushane would have to turn this into an approved non profit organization for him to be able to give tax deductable receipts. you might be able to regard it as a gift maybe? maybe he'll be generous enough to do this when he returns home safely, but hopefully this war will be finished soon!

On a related note don't forget to rock the vote today where applicable CAGs ;)

I know you said current gen games, but tell me this - do you have a dreamcast over there?

Also, could you use some strategy guides?

i'm wondering if they need consoles?

good stuff, man. hopefully i'll see some of those games when i go there in a couple of months. long live cag.

and yes its true, iraq get VERY cold.

Waa-hey! I was in Habbaniyah '05-'06. The best thing about TQ was your dining facilities. And yes, Iraq is quite cold. Keep up the good work!

Navy guy in the sandbox? I worked with a few navy guys over there. was army stationed at vbc and everywhere else. as I remember everyone plays Halo over there. the px's usually have an alright game selection. if people want to do you a favor I am sure they will have thier gf make them a cake and douse it with jack daniels. my favoirte kind of present.

I sent 18 PS2 games to you via priority mail about a week ago. The guy at the PO said that it takes 1-1.5 weeks to get to Iraq. How about posting some pics when you get them? Thanks!

Shipping out to you in the morning:

Gran Turismo 4
GodHand
Rocky
Splinter Cell
SOCOM 2
Full Spectrum Warrior
Madden 05
Gundam Zeonic Front
Namco Museum

Thanks for serving!

Well here's the list of games I'm sending out tommorow after school.

Project Gotham Racing
Ninja Gaiden (sorry)
Chronicles of Riddick :Escape from Butcher Bay
Resident Evil 4
Metroid Prime 2
NCAA Football 2005

Can you take consoles? I am willing to throw in my gamecube that I don't play anymore.

I registerd for these forums just to reply to this thread. I found this site off www.digg.com (sorry CAG lol).

I think this is a really cool idea. I had a friend that just left for BT about a week or so ago. Thank you for all your hard work over in Iraq, and we hope you all can come back soon. I will be sending some games out your way once i re-locate all mine. I had a ton of xbox games that I was going to get rid of, but I just got through moving, and they are still in boxes somewhere. Once I find them, I really want to send them out to all you guys out there (and women too of course). This is a really good idea to keep the morale of the troops up. I will do my best to spread the word around here. I live in Florida, and will be spreading the word, hopefully alot of people will join in the campaign.

Again, thank you for your service, and awesome idea.

-Josh
