Outside Animal Crossing(which I dont even count)did they show even one core offering this year? How many do they have coming up? Thats what I was thinking, abandoning their hardcore audience is going to sure be a dick come next gen. Sure right now, when its the 'hip' thing to do, things are going well but when something else comes around, Nintendo is fucked. Their hardcore audience will have moved on because of their actions this gen, their 'casual' audience will have gotten bored and Nintendo will have nothing.

Sort of like that friend you have that no longer hangs out with his old friends, because he has a new girlfriend.
 
Wow. this is the second E3 thread I've spent any time looking over other than the awesome FFXIII to 360 thread.

I'm amazed to see DMK playing such hardcore defense here. Perhaps he's right; I'll go look over Nintendo's keynote and see what I think. I would say that the combined defense of their speech stinking "you seem to think this show means something" combined with the internally difficult-to-juggle-at-the-same-time-as-an-underwhelming-speech defense of "Nintendo's core focus is unchanged over 20 years" appear to make DMK stammering for something, anything to defend the great big N.

Now, to see what they showed. Be back soon.

It turns out, E3 is not just the conferences. There is more to come. We dont have a release list for Q3-4 yet.

Nintendo gets a lot of flak for rehashing the same games and IP. But wait, how is it possible to rehash the same games while also moving away from those same games?

What they showed just now doesnt answer my question.

animal crossing and new wii sports are the only new things shown. everything else we knew about.

But on the topic, I couldn't agree more. Nintendo is going for the quick buck and when the "mainstream/causal" gamer goes on to the next new thing (maybe pet rocks will make a comeback) guess who Nintendo will be crawling back to.....the fat chick.

In the first 18 months we got a Mario, Metroid, Zelda, a Mario Kart, and a Smash game. Aside from the schedule being a little closer together than usual, how is that any different from any point in Nintendo's history in the console market?

Do you seriously expect Nintendo to completely change that routine just because of an hour show where you didnt see anything?

Some people bitch no matter what. Personally I dont care if they rehash the same stuff over and over. If you make the best hash in the biz then shit serve up that hash 3 days old and cold and your freaking awsome. Nintendo didnt do that though! I was ok with the Wii, hell I was estatic for it. But they are not doing anything with it at the moment.

Yes there is more to come, but these press conferences are often the biggest showing and besides they set the buzz for the show. Nintendo would have been better not showing up then having this kind of showing.

Im sure at the end of the day when they show the DS line up they are going to just rock our socks or atleast excite us. However the Wii is horribly disappointing at the moment and their conference was probably the worst or one of the worst iv ever seen.

on another note, Nintendo is doing us good not short term, but long term. Yeah, the casuals are all the focus, but in probably 10 years from now, the now casuals will be the futures hardcore. Or at least I hope so.

It's not like the casual market is full of pre-teens. The target seems to be mothers just as much as their children, and I don't see people who are already adults suddenly shifting their wants with regards to video games in large numbers.

Ermmmm last year I saw a mixed reaction. The fanboys were all battling it out and the rest of us were torn. They showed a few big games. This year all I see is you and a few other fanboys defending Nintendo while everyone else says it was crap. Seriously MS's press conference people can argue for one way or the other but Nintendos was just assitude to a new level.

And kid, dont know how long you been playing games for but E3 isnt an hour show. Its several days(as you suggested earlier, why are you flip flopping?)and the several biggest in gaming.
 
There is no flip flop. The hour show refers to just the conference which just ended. You seem to recognize that there is in fact more show, particularly floor show to come. Therefore, you shouldnt be concerned with the lackluster hour that we just had.

If you read what I state its an hour long show, but first off that hour show sets the buzz of the rest of the show but second that is when 90% of the big announcements come. Could Nintendo have a whole bag full of tricks left? Very possibly. Was their show horribly disappointed and will they open up some big bag. Probally not.

Besides we are talking about the conference not the whole show. You came in defending them. If we start arguing Nintendo has the worst ovearll E3 showing or if they come from nowhere to reveal a new Mother game, Zelda and other goodies and we still say their showing is crap. THEN you can talk. For now stop being a fanboy and read what we are saying and stop going back and forth to whatever position makes them look the best.
 
My comments arent necessarily directed at you personally. There are people that are talking about selling their console based on what just ended. Those are the people I am talking to.

And im one of those people. Their console is fast becoming a joke. It wasnt when they launched it and it wasnt last year. But Nintendo has for awhile now fast been rolling down hill from serious developer to joke. As I stated the head of Kotaku pointed out how their sales have become driven by these toys like the Wii Board and Mario Kart Wheel/Wii Zapper that dont even get much support. The others on the panel agreed with him.....and looking here and at other forums most gamers are starting to.

Im a hardcore Nintendo fan.....but man they are like it or not running the Wii into the ground.

Is there a new Zelda coming? A new Mario Kart(and the last one was sub par in many many peoples minds)? New Earthbound? New Donkey Kong Country? Whats their big new IP like Perfect Dark or Eternal Darkness?

Argue all you freaking want but every few months there is a new add on or gimmick like the freaking Wii Zapper but where are our hardcore games? Whats driving system sales? Your views are dead wrong.

I understand that, but given the lackluster showing from Nintendo's conference today, it would have been better to save that information for today. I will admit, I'm usually one of the first to defend Nintendo and their position. Nintendo and I have a long and enjoyable partnership that dates back to the good ol' days of the NES.

The important thing for me in a console is that the game provides an enjoyable and entertaining experience. It doesn't really matter if it's a "casual" or "hardcore" game, as long as the game is fun and affordable. Galaxy is almost a perfect example of a great title that is easily accessible to new gamers, while providing a vast and rich experience for the more experienced gamers.

I saw very little today that convinced me that Nintendo is marketing to vast spectrum of gamers, and it is pretty clear that Nintendo is trying to cash in on their popularity with soccer moms, nursing homes, and little kids while nearly completely ignoring everything else in between. Reggie mentioned that Nintendo wants to fulfill the needs of casual and core gamers, yet nothing convinced me that they are really interested in catering to the core gamers anymore. It feels like we all got the proverbial middle finger from Nintendo, so to speak.

In no way am I saying that Nintendo should abandon casual games. I'm all for casual games as long as they have a wide appeal and are interesting. The only Nintendo games that I saw that really fit the bill was Animal Crossing and WiiSports resort, everything else really looked like crap. Nintendo really needs to stop dicking around with their fans, and stop sugarcoating all this nonsense. WiiMusic looked like a disaster at the conference, and is really disappointing if that is their "big announcement" this E3.

I'll be willing to eat crow should Nintendo prove me wrong during the course of the rest of the week. But their conference should really be where they put their best foot forward and give all of us, casual and core gamers alike something to look forward to the rest of the year.

In closing, I'm not going to pull off any of this "sell my console" or "wii is collecting dust lol" crap either, I immensely enjoy my console thus far and was hoping Nintendo would have some big(ger) title announcements to look forward to in the upcoming '08-09 year.

-Yes, there is a new Zelda being worked on.

Well, with Sony's press conference starting in a few, I just want to put forth that, if they were to go the opposite route that Nintendo did - that is, focus on their franchises (especially those that we haven't seen in a while) - they would easily come out on top in terms of which press conference was best/most exciting for most gamers. As Wombat said on the latest Cagcast, they need to bring out those characters/games that made us fall in love with the Playstation 2 - Jak, GoW, Shadow of the Colossus, etc.

However, what I'm expecting is a lot of talk about stuff we've seen before: KZ2, Resistance 2, Socom, etc, but mostly Home. Bluh. Nothing drags me down more than watching them talk about how great Home is - it's as if they put so much time and hype into a service I can't see myself going in and staying in for more than 15 or 20 minutes at a time.

Man you really are a die hard fanboy and really bad at missing points. The point of that is that Nintendos major franchises are not represented at the moment nor are any new franchises other then joke casual stuff really coming up. Every E3 they have had some huge franchise to show and every E3 they have great new IP to get us excited yet NOTHING this year. Nintendo has shifted their focus and you seem to be one of just a small handful of people that dont see it.

Pretty much sums me up as well. I hope they show off some AAA stuff later. As it stands, their conference sucked, and showecased material that almost certainly is not "for" me.

Which is a shame, because if they had even given a glimpse at some of their great franchises (or new "core" IPs), the outlook could be completely different.
 
Agreed, what's-her-name was easily the worst part of the presentation. She came off as one of those wanna-be gamer poser-types, and as a result her "excitement" sounded very forced. The second worst part was that Reggie was in his GDC 2007 "Our bar is bigger than the other guys' bars" mode. It was painful at that GDC (Where the biggest games shown were Mario Strikers Wii and Brain Age 2), and was just worse at this convention. Hopefully Sony can save this show with some good PSP and PS3 announcements.

hehe like I said she reminded me of the Old Lady Navy. Take the OLN make her younger and have her try and talk about video games and there you go!
