FAQ's:

What if the price isn't accurate in store? Ask them to scan the title anyway and/or check the master game sales list online as my prices ARE accurate.

What if the in store game has no for sale sticker? Sorry. Chances are it isn't for sale because we usually leave a few for rent, but it doesn't hurt to ask an employee just in case.

Why doesn't the online price reflect your price? Although Family Video and FamilyVideo.com are the same thing and prices *usually* should match, there are times when they do not or might be sold out. Sorry.

Do games come with manuals/boxes? All games should come with the original artwork/case, but sometimes rental customers don't return manuals, so it's about 50/50.

What if I buy a game that doesn't work? All games are guaranteed to be in working condition. We clean all games before selling them. You can even replace games in the store that were purchased online! People have told me that the e-commerce site is also very helpful with returns/replacements.

What if my store is not offering the specials listed, is this YMMV? No, this is not YMMV. Unless the store is down to its last few copies of a game, it should be available for sale. If they refuse to sell it to you for the price listed and/or you have recurring problems with a store, please check out this link to help both you and our company to improve.
https://www.familyvideo.com/contact.php#q17

What do the numbers next to the titles mean? The numbers represent how many copies of an item a B&M store will protect for rental only. For example, if you see 4 copies on the shelf for rent and my listing has a (3) beside it, 1 should be available for sale. Listings with a (5) means that there will be at least 5 kept for rent, but if the title is renting well the remaining copies may or may not be for sale. At this point, please ask a staff member for assistance.

Actually depending on the manager they may not be lying... the store i work at gives the employees free range to make sale decisions but the store 10 minutes down the street has a manager that wont let them sell the game unless he marks them. There are many ways a game can go missing, never returned, damaged out, lost or stolen, etc. All family video stores are different.
If I rent out a copy, and I don't return it, obviously, I'll be charged. But how much? Is it an across-the-board $50 fee (plus late fees) or is it the in-system, pre-owned price?

Frowned upon lol, but if you don't go there often, you could do that :p

The unreturned item then becomes "purged" and there will be a balance of the item's price (MSRP) placed on your account. Say you checked out Madden 15 and never returned it. If you were to go to that Family Video again, you'd have to either a) return the game and pay off your late fees or b) be charged give-or-take $59.99 (how much we would have to pay for another copy). Hope that helps :)

Thanks for the input. Yeah, I would only do this once, but it's for Dragonball Budokai 3 for Wii. So I'm wondering what the MSRP I'd be charged for that one would be, lol. If it's $49.99, then this isn't really going to work out for me...

If you're a good liar lmao, you could say that your kid lost it or something. With Budokai Tenkaichi 3 being a Wii game, you could also sweet talk the employee into reducing the purged balance from $49.99 to $9.99 since most Wii games are being sold at that price. You've tried purchasing the item, right?

I have, yes. This is one of the stores where they are honestly just prickly. They don't even like to be approached with the question.

I very much doubt sweet-talking will work, lol.

Thanks again for the tip, though.

Lol tempted by Spidey, but deep down I can't justify it

Well that's tricky, we have 2 ways we can do that. 1. We can just f4 it which will sell it for what the system says its worth...this can be anywhere from $7.99 to $99. For example the lion king would come up for more expensive bc it is in the vault and very difficult to replace. I have never seen any employee do it that way unless it was a reasonable price. 2. This is what we do at our stores, price adjust it to the normal price of games that old, typically $9.99. You should also know family video doesnt just charge you for an item after a set amount of time. The system will continue to build up your late fee until it purges from the system then your charged a restock and system price purge fee. Long story short dont do that lol. After the item is due go in and explain you lost or broke the item and ask them how much you owe them. However doing it that way will make it difficult to get the game case.

Went to family video today to get Spiderman 2 for XB1. Well my neighbor works there and she was working. I go up to the counter and she says "Do we have anything else you want that's not marked?" and I of course say "Metroid Prime Trilogy" So she looks it up to see if it rents. Then she asked the manager and the manager said it was fine. So I got it in the tin case for $10 :D/

For anyone who works at family video,  did they put out The Order 1886 on the ps4 already?   I know they sometimes put out friday releases games early and was wondering if this is one of them?

Just checked at my FV.

As of 3:04pm they did not have The Order 1886 available to rent.

Didn't inquire about it, just walked in, checked and walked out.

Lucky son of a gun. I'll have to see if my area one is planning on selling it. I tried before for their copy of FF IV for the DS but sadly it's their only copy.

Thanks a ton for the update! I'm hoping Destiny or AC Unity drops more soon. I have 3 stores in my area with 4 of each on their racks and they are not moving at current price and I would totally buy Destiny for $20.

Checked at my local Family Video in regards to Metroid Prime Trilogy. Sadly they only have one copy, so no sale :whistle2:( . Damn it.

Did Family Video stop getting Xbox One games or is it just my store? Newest game they have is Dying Light (5 copies). There have been 7 or 8 new releases since then.

I haven't been to mine in some time, but we have a lot, and they were always stocked with the newest games.

On that, anyone happen to know the present price of Forza Horizon 2? I'm thinking of picking it up because I'm done with Dying Light, and there's nothing else out on the One I care to play.

my store only had one, but like I said my neighbor works there and the game didn't rent. I tried to get Pokepark 2 but it has been rented recently so I couldn't buy it.

i know my store has gotten evolve, Kirby, and Zelda 3ds since dying light. maybe the 7 to 8 releases you are talking about aren't considered big games therefor a rental place isn't prob going to buy them.

I think he means Dragon Ball: Xenoverse, Dead or Alive 5, Screamride, Evolve, DMC: Definitive, and Dynasty Warriors 8. Those are the ones on the release schedule that I think are physical releases.

Yep. There were a few others, but just checked and saw they were digital only.

I'm not surprised about definitive editions because my store never has those, but Evolve and Dragonball are surprising not to have.

My stores have Evolve and Xenoverse, but not DOA5, DW8, or DmC. Maybe yours just doesn't get a lot of traffic for Xbone games?

It really depends on the individual store. XB1 game rentals are less than those of the PS4 side, so a store might get less or no copies in at all. My store is slow at renting games, so we get like 1-2 copies if we're lucky :(

lol, in the Windows Central Forza stream that EastX is doing on Twitch, someone asked "What's Family Video?"

Answer: "It's like Blockbuster, but it still exists" :p

Yeah, I was the one who answered him. East and the other co-host live in Texas, where there apparently aren't any Family Videos. I actually had to rent Horizon tonight to play with them.

Not everyone in TX lives in the lap of luxury near an FV, but I have three within 15 minutes of me. :)

I have maybe 9within that time frame from me, haha.We have 6 in-town, 2 just outside of town, and another that I'm not quite sure the distance to, but it's not THAT far.

Somehow, I'm still sitting here without a copy of Radiant Dawn...
