Most Asked Question...WHEN PRICES DROP?

All stores vary when prices will drop because it depends on how well the inventory is selling. If selling fairly well the store could possibly stay open longer, if not, the store may close down earlier preventing any further discounts from happening. From what I've noticed most price drops happen once a week (days vary) and then the last two weeks they drop much quicker...every 3 days or so. Hope this info helps!

CURRENT LIQUIDATION GAME SALE INFO

The first 800 HWV store closings have finished and all stores are beginning the process over again. You will need to check in with your area store periodically about current discounts because each store is different. Current Speculation is that all stores will be closed within 10 weeks...so by July.

I do not have a master list of prices unfortunately. Most stores have gone through and price stickered the older games. There is a possibility of the newer games being price stickered as well, but until then, you will have to inquire about the price with the employee. Most prices for the newer games in the computer range between $30-$50 and then take whatever their current discount is off that price.

Any Forum Trades; please visit http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230651

Special Ordering Used or New Video Games

Beginning December 14th, ALL Hollywood Video stores will have the ability to place New & Used GAME Special Orders. Customers who cannot find games or accessories can place a Special Order and have it shipped from any Game Crazy/Game Zone store to their Hollywood Video for pick-up.

* Shipping Fee is $6.00 (Possibly per game if being shipped from different locations)
* Most Special Orders arrive within 7 days of ordering
* Outlet Stores do not participate in Special Orders, so YMMV on all stores.

Special Orders include:

Strategy Guides
New & Used Controllers
New & Used Games
New & Used cables, cords, and accessories
Toys & Figures

There is a list of product either on a waiting list or permanently out of stock; I may include this at a later point when I have more time. It's quite long.

Important notes (please read these before posting questions):

1) 99% of these deals will NOT work in a Game Crazy. They have their own deals; please refer to http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234882 These deals will also more than likely NOT work at a Hollywood Video with a Game Crazy attached! However, Movie Gallery may or may not have some of these same Game deals! "Movie Gallery bought Hollywood Video", hence the reason for some of the same sales at either HWV or MG.

2) Hollywood Video employees will need to scan a coupon code in order for any game to be discounted.

3) Hollywood Video's store hours vary from location to location, especially with all the store closings. Please call.

4) If you would like to contribute to any game deals, please when posting, include game, system, price, city and state.
For example:
Dragon Quest VIII, PS2, $4.99
Tampa, FL (Temple Terrace)

5) Hollywood Video's are mostly movie rental stores (games are not as important to them to keep up on), thus, always double check on sticker prices because 50% of the time they are probably stickered wrong. ;)

6) Do not trust the store locator at HollywoodVideo.com Google it and call first. That store might already be closed!

7) Hollywood Video does not do cash back if a game is damaged or you "already own it". Used games have a 90 day guarantee. You have a few options: swap for same title, swap for a different title if they do not have it, or using the disc buffer machine to try and fix the game. Hollywood Video also does disc buffing for personal items at a $1 per disc.

8) ALL sales are FINAL during the closing sale. Usually within the first few weeks of the sale if you do purchase something that does not work they MAY swap it for you. YMMV!!!

If you don't want to get the guy in trouble, then don't do it - several employees were fired last time for transferring stuff out to Hollywood so they could buy it cheaper.

And for those who saw my post earlier - I'll be damned, it actually did drop between the weekend and now, so Fallout 3 applies to the sale, both systems.

I'll be checking this sale out tomorrow.. not for flipping like I'm sure most are, but for legitimate gifts. I want some older ones that I don't think anyone will have any interest in, though, so hopefully they won't go anywhere.

Same here, I want some gifts. This would be excellent if I could pick up an SFIV or RE5

I wonder if this happened here. During the last sale (the summer one that is) there were 3 guys from a different Gamecrazy that were all in line buying mystery bags from the manager of my local HWV. I asked him about it afterwards and he said they sent games down there and then bought them (with cash).

Well, the guy totally offered to do this for me out of the blue so I will take him up on it if he still wants to. I mean, he's at least transferring it down for a customer so that's not nearly the same thing. I know they do that all the time normally when they get requests at the local HWV store. But if he seems hesitant about it I'll be sure to let him off the hook - and I'm only going to ask for a few obscure items I'd never find otherwise (mostly DS stuff).

In the mean time I'm going to try to get some of the new drops tomorrow the old fashioned way (by showing up and grabbin' 'em). I don't actually own Fallout 3 yet, so that will be my number one target. I'm nearly positive my local store has it and I can only hope they didn't retag it yet!

Unfortunately since I'm in IL now I don't know if I'll be able to hit this up since no MGs/HWV's are within 30 minutes of me. Plus me first student loan payment is due on Monday, and I'm kinda short on cash as it is... :whistle2:\

But if it goes until January I should be able to up some up when I'm back in MO. Hope they aren't too pillaged by then.

So what's the general etiquette when it comes to these types of deals?

If I'm going to use it for personal use and not resell or trade in it's okay to buy a grip? Looking at the 360 list and more than half of those I'd be happy to have. Not sure at what point I should start feeling like a dick though if I come across a mother lode.

I don't think there's any problem with picking out a bunch of different games for yourself. Go crazy.

I think there's a problem if you were buying tons of copies of the same game, but I don't even think there's a big problem with grabbing a few games to flip if you can. Last time I grabbed two games that I wouldn't have otherwise because I needed two more games to get 6 for the GameStop tiered trade. I didn't feel guilty about it at all.

Hate to break the rationalization used by some people, but yeah - if you buy even 1 game that you are only intending to flip, then you probably just took a play copy from another CAGers hands.

I highly doubt if there will be many motherlodes found this sale - where would the games come from to restock most of the HWV's? They seem to be ramping down and phasing OUT their used game sections.
Some people may find some, but I'm guessing most places will be pretty dry compared to the previous 2 sales. (Too damn many hoarders and flippers cleared most of the HWV's out)

What Mizz said.

Honestly there will always be that one guy that will hoard everything so might as well help yourself.

I have my own rule, for example, I'll be getting God of War 3 the day it comes out, so I'll be buying games to flip for that amount for sure, but I never take more than one copy of the game I'm flipping.

It's not a rationalization, it's just how the system works. Did you really think that a pro-hoarder would give a damn about other CAGers? If you don't do it someone else will. No one's stealing or committing a crime here. HWV is extremely happy actually with that pro-hoarder since they're getting cleared which is the point of sales like this.

Whether or not you are going for personal use or flipping purposes I can't say you shouldn't do what you want. If you want to hoard, then so be it. I hate to sound like this, but personally I could care less about the next guy. If I have the opportunity to get some nice flips in, I will take it and get every game I know will net me some cash.

Everyone else will too, so I don't worry about being nice to the next guy because by the time he gets there somebody will probably already have hoarded and cleaned the store out.

There is no general etiquette. If you want the stuff, get up early and make it to the store when it opens. At least, that's how I view stuff. I know other CAGs will disagree with me, but I don't care. If you're the one who got up early to get in on the deal, why should you care about the other guy who obviously doesn't care as much?

Ofcourse a lot of other CAGs will disagree, tomorrow after work if the HWV nearest to me is picked clean, I know I'll be pissed. Not because it was an injustice, it's because some ass beat me to it. All the CAGs riding the high horse preaching about these so-called "morals" are hypocrites. It's not like they're putting those under the fucking Angel Tree. They're just mad that they didn't get the deals for themselves.
I will have to dbl check on halo wars cause I do not remember this qualifing...atleast at my store. Super Paper Mario was a recent drop and was added earlier today. I'll add the rest in a bit.
I bought Halo Wars for $5 on Thanksgiving.

my personal rule is, stop when your hands are full, carry as much as you can in two hands while still being able to see over the pile of games against ur chest.

edit: personally, today im going in for 2 games (any 2) to trade in with 2 other games i have to GS for the +20 bonus, and 3 games to keep to play, and hopefully find a couple cool ones for gifts, then im stopping myself, mostly because im short on cash though, otherwise i'd keep going im sure.

edit 2: awww fuck, just realized i have to renew my gold subscription... ugh

Hmmm - hopefully that store locator info is correct because it says the two stores I want to hit up tomorrow open at noon. If they open earlier I'll be pissed ;).

At least it's better than last time I tried to use it and it only showed me Gamecrazy locations!

I wanted to get some stuff for my new PS3, that's why I'm so bummed I might miss out on the deal. I know they were older titles, but I thought this was a good chance to get stuff like Warhawk and the original Resistance that look like pretty decent local multiplayer games.

Thanks! One of the ones I was planning on visiting doesnt open until 12.

I know it's like spitting into a tidal wave, but I think there's a big difference between getting a lot of games for yourself, or for gifts, even if you all but clean out the store, and getting titles solely for the sake of flipping them.

It's fair game to take advantage of a deal to get a lot of merch, but to do so for the sake of making money for yourself, that's just a dick move. Illegal, no, of course not...but anyone with any sort of moral code ought to be appalled. I know the one time I did any sort of "flipping" I felt kinda bad about it (and even then, there were 3 copies for the deal, and I took 2...one for myself, one to sell, and I left one)
These are some games i saw at GC marked 29.99 and below not on the OP list. They seem to be recent reductions so maybe they will qualify tomorrow.
360
Halo Wars
Bigs 2
Sacred 2
Destroy all Humans
wii
Super Paper Mario
PS3
Valkyria Chronicles
Naruto storm
I hope Sacred 2 for PS3 qualifies too and one of my local 2 HWV stores has a copy in stock this morning, since I want that game but I didn't wanna pay the $22 and change from the GoHastings.com sale for it.

I have the pc version and I have friends who have the X360 version of Sacred 2. IMO, you should have grabbed it for $22. It is totally worth it. But hell ya, if you can get it for $5. :D

EDIT: How the hell did my reply to you get bumped before your comment?

Sorry for my noob question, but what's the website that I have to visit to see these deals? Is there even a website, or is it just a store?
It's just the store (or "B&M" only).
This is strange. I replied to your post, but then my post got kicked back to the previous page lol. Anyways, thanks! :)
did anyone get a chance to check the Brooklyn Hollywood video locations?
if so, any luck?
looks like i'm SOL, as i don't see the Brooklyn store on their site anymore. guess they've closed.

Should I expect to find these deals at HWV's that dont have an attached Gamecrazy, or will the HWV with the Gamecrazy's next door offer this deal too? Thanks

just came back from HWV they had NOTHING! only old sports games. :(

im waiting for noon to come so i can goto the other store hopefully they have something!

Called my local HWV again, no sale, but they said that they're liquidating the remaining games from the GC that used to be attached to the store at 80%... which I'm going to assume means absolutely everything is gutted. Not going to bother going in to check it out.

I regularly hear people on CAG talking about "looking out for other CAGers" and how SDers are slime, etc.
But if this is the prevailing attitude here on CAG, there is NO difference between SD slime-hoarders and CAGers.

I'm about to head out to two HWV's and hope I find some good stuff! Last time this sale happened I heard about it near the end so hopefully my luck turns around this time haha :p.

Looking forward to this sale; last time I did well with Fable 2, Ratchet and Clank: ToD, DMC4, and Afro Samurai.

Got Fallout 3 w/expansion for $5 for 360. It was also there for PS3, but didn't look to see if the expansion was included since I don't have a PS3. Nothing else was there that was worth buying. SF4 and Infamous were $35, Batman: AA was $50, and the rest were mostly wrestling games and old sports games. A couple other games that were $15 so they weren't worth it at the last sale and still aren't. Only one I remember is some Tomb Raider for 360. No Wii games worth mentioning.

Store opened at 11. Royal Oak, MI.

Oh, and I think I heard the employee tell someone on the phone that the deal wasn't going on, but got a call later from her manager about it and she looked through the books, found the barcode for the sale, and put the signs up.

I didn't get too much. Pretty much just scraps left over from black friday. Animal crossing, super smash bros wii, star ocean, and a bunch of others were all over $30. I didn't see any of those goddamn fallout 3's. Sucks cause I have the first 4 expansion packs installed on my HDD. I would have loved to get super paper mario and those wario games.

I bought:

Wii
Metroid Prime 3

I think you can see from the past couple pages that there is no such thing as "etiquitte" with this (or any other) deal. For every CAG that will ridicule you for 'flipping' or 'hoarding' there are probably just as many who are 'flipping/hoarding' the same amount (or more than) what you are. Even worse probably a good amount of the people who get on their high horse here will persecute you in this thread, but then go out and flip/hoard to their hearts content. Most people are probably users/lurkers of all the deal sites: CAG, SD & FW so I always find it amusing when one group calls out the other all while hiding behind the relative anonymity of the internet.

I guess what I'm telling you is to do what you feel is right in your own mind because regardless of what you do, people on this forum will probably either a) pat you on the back or b) ridicule you, and more than likely you will have both happen to you regardless of what you do.

That said, hit my local store at 10am today. Only picked up 3 games, Fallout 3 for 360 does indeed qualify. This store had been cleaned out of used games for a looong time and the employees said that someone took most of the few remaining better games over Thanksgiving. I was dismayed to see that employees had stashed a good amount of stuff that was there last night so there wasn't much left for me. I don't think this store ever converts rentals and the fact that there are 2 GS/EBs within a mile of the store probably limits the amount of trade ins they receive. Oh well, maybe they will get a restock shipment in, but I'm doubting it. Can't believe this sale is running almost a full month though. Should be interesting.
Im trying to wait until someone posts back some good news before I head out and try my luck.
I just came back from the Clinton Twp. store. There was no $4.99 sale going on. They did have a couple of tables worth of 80% off games from the GC that closed. I spent $12 on six Xbox and one X360 games. All in paper envelopes. So it wasn't a total loss. I'll check out the Royal Oak store on the way home. But they didn't have much in the way of qualifying current gen games last weekend when I was there. Most of the stuff that store has is last gen stuff $9.99 or less.

Just went to what I thought was my local HV in Waltham, MA ----- Big sign on the door, "This store will permanently close on 12/8" Nearest one is now 30 miles away.

Oh well.

Unfortunately that is the world nowadays. Everything is a money making opportunity no matter what is involved. We teach our kids to be considerate and share yet can't even conceive such a concept for ourselves.

Oh well, I mostly just wait for games to hit about $10 anyways and get them then but it always makes me more self-conscious to ensure I'm not being that person making a fool of myself. Plenty here definitely are.

In Utah, I went to the Game Crazy attached to a Hollywood Video in Taylorsville and the guy there was completely clueless and had no idea what I was talking about. I told him I had the promo code and if he could try it out and he said there wasn't a way for him to. Said they normally only scan coupons...so I had him call another location to check if they'd heard of it.

After talking to the guy, he said that was the "district manager" and he said no way...so yeah. Did I misread? Is it Game Crazy or HWV that's doing this sale?

Only thing I was able to find was Assassins Creed for the 360 and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. I'll probably just be giving them both as gifts for christmas but if anyone found any decent 360 games and want to trade for either of those PM me.

That's the money round though--ask them to check electronic messages from corporate. They might just be surprised. Happened to me last summer.
