*Official* NBA PLAYOFFS 2007 discussion
Such a pathetic effort by the Mavs. I'm am truely pissed at them.

I'm all for Golden State, but I predict they'll lose agains San Antonio in the conference finals.
I'm hoping for a Spurs/Pistons rematch, to be honest.

Anyone find it amazing that Dallas had NO 2-point field goals in the entire first quarter?

All the points came from 3's and a few free throws.
That still amazes me.

Good job to the Warriors, they played like madmen.
I'm hoping for a Spurs/Pistons rematch, to be honest.
Just say NO, to boring basketball.

I can't support that type of finals.

I thought the first Spurs/Pistons was awesome, to be honest. Was fun to watch.

Exactly! I hate the slow half court snooze fest that is the Spurs. Suns or Warriors vs. Bulls. Now that would be a fun series!

With the Knicks on some other planet these few years, I've been a casual fan of the Suns.

But man oh man, since game 2 of the Warriors/Mavs series I gotta watch how far the Warriors can go.

I can dig that. I like both teams work ethic.

I hear you :(

The Knicks have some good young players though so I am optimistic that they can turn it around next year.

The one team I want to see lose are the Spurs. They must not win for beating my Knicks.

Hard to say. I like T-Mac and want him to get out of the first round but Jerry Sloan is a great coach and I'd like to see his team get to the 2nd round as well. Even when he had nothing to work with, he wouldn't give up a season so he could get draft picks, he always made his team work hard.

Not to butt in but I wouldn't go as far as to say the comments were pulled out of his ass. Well, maybe the interview part. Saying he wants to be like MJ based on his interviews is a little far fetched. I think he's just a genuinely classy guy like MJ. But you can't deny that his game is heavily influenced by Michael. Jordan was more of a slasher earlier in his career and constantly drove to the basket (a la Wade). When he lost some of his explosiveness in his later years as a Bull, he changed his game with that unguardable fadeaway. Kobe's game is almost a fusion of early and late Jordan combined.

Whether or not Kobe wanting to be like Jordan is a concoction of the media, it is hard to deny that his game and mannerisms are so MJ-like. You could take any other SG and they all have their own persona. Iverson, Wade, T-Mac...they all stand out as their own person with their own style. Kobe seems like he will always be compared to Jordan because they are both so similar in their skills, style, and competitiveness.

He actually has a point, I mean Kobe is IMO the best player in the NBA right now but does try to be like Mike

Hes a great player but I wish he could be more of a team player.

And I am not trying to start a flame war over this, just stating what I think.

Nets moving on. Jefferson and Kidd played huge last night. Bring on the Cavs. Should be a good series I think the teams match up well.

No, i'm pretty sure Howard or someone made a 2 pointer. Are you going off on what ESPN said about no 2pointers?

Bye Toronto.

If it makes you Raptors fans feel any better, the Nets will probably beat Queen James in the next round. The Cavs are the (second) most overrated team in the NBA. They were the most... but Dallas decided they wanted that spot.

I don't really think they are overrated, I mean you expect LeBron to play well, but their nickname is the LeBrons so, if he doesn't drop 40 every game with the lack of talent he has on his team, you expect them to lose.

But yeah, I think the Nets will be in the East Conf Finals

Poor T-Mac is never gonna get out of the first round lol. Looks like he'll be taking some heat off of Dirk for a while.

I also find it odd that the Spurs and Phoenix are facing off in the 2nd round. These are the two best teams in the West and they should be going at it in the Western Conference Finals and not meeting in the 2nd round. This shows how clunky the NBA Playoff system is.

Yeah wtf is up with that? Why is a 2 seed playing a 3 seed when its not Conference Finals yet?

Well, I have to say these double headers are taking 4-5 hour chunks out of my day...I don't even watch consistently during the regular season but the playoffs never fail to suck me in

The Pistons Bulls game....I'd be surprised if the Bulls pulled off a win, that was some of the sloppiest basketball I'd ever seen, it honestly made me think that I [an overweight 20 year old girl] should try out for the bulls, because they were doing stuff me and my classmates didn't do in grade school. Double dribbling, sloppy dribbling, unreal turn overs, horrible accuracy...

The Jazz Rockets game? One, I love the media, how it says "we never take sides" but everytime the Jazz scored, Marv Albert went "YES!" and everytime the Rockets score, they just said "Oh, and the Rockets score two". It was a tight game and both halfs were on fire, the Jazz had some strong leads, the Rockets pulled some amazing comebacks, and the last quarter could have been anyone's game. Quite possibly, the reason the Rockets loss was not getting to loose balls quick enough and playing too honest a game, where the Jazz will foul Yao and T-Mac every single time just to stop a play, the Rockets let it go way too easily.

I hate the play offs, twice a week I know I'll be tied up for 5 hours in a row. I also hate these Tyler Perry commercials.
Yeah wtf is up with that? Why is a 2 seed playing a 3 seed when its not Conference Finals yet?
That's how it works if the seeds hold. If all high seeds win, 1 plays 4 in the second round and 2 plays 3. Then 1 plays 2 in the conference finals. I think the point was that the NBA's seeding system is still a bit off even after they tried to give more weight to teams with the best record as opposed to division winners - though I don't know if that impacted those teams at all, haven't followed the West closely enough and too lazy to check standings. :p

All they need to do to fix it is to guarantee a playoff spot to the division winners, but then seed according to record. So a team left out of the playoffs might have a better record than a division winner that got in the playoffs, but at least once the playoffs start, the best team plays the worst team and so on.

Now thats just dumb. No wonder why ESPN said something about NBA should Re-Seed the playoffs again. An 8 seed playing vs a 4 seed is just plain stupid.

damnit now i have to watch carlos boozer another at least 4 games. oh well I guess I'll be cheering for Golden State now that the Wizards, toronto, denver, and Houston are all gone.

Poor T-Mac. He looked devastated during the press conference. I had a laugh about it after the game ended but seeing him talking to the press was just...

God damn rockets! Just win....you got all the talent in the world can you just win some god damn games for once.

This years playoffs is shaping up to be really good and really crappy at the same time....I dont know why.

The Pistons are still kicking ass so at least being a Detroit fan isnt bad right now....but all my secondary favorite teams are doing shitty as hell.

I just kinda want to tell Tmac "it takes 5 baby".. jazz win.. I said it here days ago that the Jazz would win this series..

I can't wait for the next round it'll be great to watch 2 great up and coming point guards go at it.. with Derek Fisher playing his old team.. Memo looks like he's finding his outside shot and AK47 returning to form.. Boozer playing like the MVP he was early in the season and D-Will coming into his own..

I know the Jazz are not a popular team on here.. But you got to love how the jazz went up against all odds (with pretty much everyone counting them out in game 5) to win. Matt Harpring gets up to Stuff Yao in the 4th..

The Jazz played nearly perfect tonight and thats why we advance..

So did anyone see that Tmac press conference.. and they give AK47 a hard time about crying? he was nearly in tears..

I really believe the Jazz could go to the finals.. we beat Phoenix twice on the ROAD and took the season series 3-1 I believe we won 6 or 7 of the last 8 so don't count out Utah for a championship run. We've also beat Detroit the last 6 times we've played them too...

Go Jazz.. Can't wait for Monday.

EDIT: to the guy who was talking about media favortism.. did you watch game 5.. where it was t mac this tmac that.. only talked about how the rockets are this rockets that.. I also remember something similar earlier in the year with the Lakers Jazz game on TNT where it was just Kobe this Kobe that.. oh yeah and AK had a steal..

Thats why I always try to watch games on a "middle" network. I hate watching games on the home teams network because they start going on about all this bullshit because of their team losing.

In Detroit...we have fucking Blahha (sp) and former Piston Bill Lamber(sp to tired to find spelling of either one) and it sucks to have them always say that the pistions are beating themselfs when its so clearly that Dirck just dropped 85 on them.

Same with the Lions games........argh.

we have bolderjack(cheese) and booner.. so.. its nice to watch them on National TV everyonce in a while (for the jazz. it seemed like only 3 or 4 were on ESPN or TNT all year so.. ) the pistons beating themselves? they have like everyone who can play offensively and they are the best team in the East the only team that can compete with them is maybe cleveland.. maybe.. thats just because cleveland has almost as many players who can score..but when their power forward (Rasheed) can step back hit a three block a shot and drive and dunk.. what do you do?.. or you leave hamilton, hunter, billiups to nail 3s all night..

If I was Tracy McGrady I would be crying right now. How many game 7 losses do you have to go through to get out of the first round? jeez...

This Utah v GS series will be interesting though
WTF happened to Chicago?
I missed the game but from the looks of the box score they didn't even try.

Everyone complaining about the seeding, the Mavs are the ones who screwed it up, 2 vs 3 is always in the 2nd round. Does the NCAA reseed after each round? That's the beauty of cinderella teams like the Warriors, they can throw the seeding off, but the top two teams left are meeting in the 2nd round because the top team has Dirk and choked it away.

I just wish the NBA would do the playoffs like the NFL (well atleast how the teams play one another). Like the top seed left will always get the lowest seed left.

a day late...

Bye Houston.

Can't believe they blew game 7 at home to Utah. Not to take any credit away from Utah, but is McGrady EVER going to get to the second round?

Probably as good a time as any to post my 2nd round picks:

Detroit over Chicago in 5... although after game 1, I'm thinking it might be 4, Chicago is a joke.

New Jersey over Cleveland in 6... still sticking with this pick, even after game 1.

Phoenix over San Antonio in 7... ugh, I dunno if this is still gonna happen after the Spurs took the opening game, but changing my pick after the first game wouldn't be very fair, would it?

Golden State over Utah in 6. Too much momentum for the Warriors, I think this is a fairly popular pick too. I'd have to say that Houston would've been an easier match-up for the Warriors though.

Your momma was a gelding. I was thankfully watching Megadeth and Heaven and Hell (aka Black Sabbath with Dio) during this game, but to call the Bulls a joke is ignorant. Can a joke sweep the Heat, lesser Heat, though they be?

The Pist ons will not have an easy road ahead. Are you listening, Captain Whatshisname?

95-69

Chicago sucks, and has questionable management. Unless you think getting rid of the young, very talented Tyson Chandler in exchange for PJ Brown was intelligent. I'm sure Chicago would be a lot worse off with Chandler in the middle instead of Wallace right now. They were smart enough to take advantage of Isiah though, but we'll see how that ends up as Curry is starting to make a case for being an all-star.

The only team that will give Detroit any trouble from here on out is San Antonio.

TC and EC never lived up to their potentials. At least Ben....big Ben.....causes some sort of problem in the paint. TC and EC were not a positive force in there for the most part.

Don't get me wrong. I think the Bulls have to be 100% every game to beat the Pistons. But one blowout isn't the end of a 7 game series.

Dude.....and this is coming from a Pistons fan.

Ben wallace fucking blows ass. He is by far one of the biggest waste of space in the NBA. I really dont get why everyone jumps on his bandwagon.

There is now way I can respect a player in the NBA who's offense is so bad that the other team dont even gameplan for it. Yes the guy has great defense but his offense is non-existent. I would much much rather have a center that is just above average in defense but at least average in offense as well.

I am not taking away from Ben's defense...but his complete lack of offense just makes him a joke, plus it makes it harder on the rest of the team beacuse every time down the court its turns into a 5 on 4 unless that douche bag gets put back dunk.

To all that dumbasses out there that said that the pistons would have a hard time without him.........yeah....right.

Good fucking riddance to that joke of a player.

But compared to TC.....his lack of offense is equal to that of Chandler. Anyways, it is good to have Bulls v. Pistons again. The absense of rivals in the past 9 years has made me sad.

By that I mean.....the Bulls being good enough to have rivals again.

Look dammit, I'm still not over MJ ending the Bad Boys reign as NBA Champs. That's what this is really all about!

You gotta remember Chandler and Curry came in to the league as 18 year olds. Outside of James, very few kids have dominated in the NBA right off. T-Mac took a couple years to get good numbers, even Kobe & KG didn't come into the league scoring 20 a game. Then there's Jermaine O'Neil who needed 5 years and a trade to get good. Chandler progressed very nicely this year with the Hornets, and Curry continues to get stronger with the Knicks.

The real bad part is Chicago got Chandler by trading away Elton Brand... imagine that guy on this Bulls team, they'd have little trouble scoring inside. Instead the Bulls have basically traded away Elton Brand for PJ Brown!

don't count out the jazz.. i'm telling you.. if we play the warriors then phoenix the jazz have a good shot at detroit... but if we play the spurs the spurs definately have the advantage there (i still remember when Utah could have drafted Parker but we choose Raul Lopez instead.)

I love how the second the Bulls loose 1 game in the playoffs they now become a joke? Last time I checked its a 7 game series, big deal the Pistons took care of us in game 1.

Theres plenty more games left and after hearing that comment I hope the Bulls win by 30 tonight so we can all say how big of a joke the Pistons are....

I'm not counting the Jazz out against Golden State. That series could easily go either way. I'm picking the Warriors though, because I like that team and I hate Utah, as we discussed earlier. I don't really think either team has the momentum here, regardless of Golden State upsetting the #1 seed. Utah did just win 4 of 5 games, including a very tough game 7 in Houston.

I'd say you're right about Utah's chances against the remaining teams though. The Spurs are too tough at the end of the day, while the Suns may lack the interior strength to beat Utah, I cannot say for sure. Then for some reason Utah continues to beat Detroit by 1 or 2 points EVERY time they play. Now, I don't see the finals ending up as Detroit against Utah, but stranger things have happened.

Dream on. The Bulls were a joke before the play-offs even started, getting blown out in that important season ending game by Jersey was enough to seal the deal IMO. What I love is how all these closet Bulls fans came out of the woodwork after Chicago swept Miami, unfortunately for you guys now that Chicago is up against a real team they don't stand a chance.
