Official NHL 12 CAG Team - We're Back Baby!!! WifeBeaterz on Parole!

Geez...some of the comments in that Reddit Q&A are terrible. One guy claiming that the goalies don't pass the puck out on their own. He said that in "over 1000 games played", he's never seen that happen before...and that somebody always called it out...that's why they put the stick tapping in the game. Are you freaking kidding me?

The next brilliant statement was somebody saying that the reason that cross creases work so well is because most people put so many points into passing, but nobody puts points into defensive awareness, and that's why the passes get through. Yeah, ok guy. Defensive D-men with 99 d awareness who are holding the LT never have a pass go right by/through them. Clearly, we're just imagining things, lol.

This is some great info on the new strategies though. It's about freaking time. This was really all I wanted for the AI. If they can just make them play how we tell them to play, I'm fine with having to tweak them according to your opponent. At least that forces people to pay attention and to learn how to actually play the game.

Offensive Zone Forechecks – 1-2-2 Passive, 1-2-2 Aggressive, Weakside Lock and 2-3
Neutral Zone Forechecks – 1-3-1, 1-4, 1-2-2

From EA: A forecheck bias has been added so that you can increase the tendency to set up in either an offensive zone or neutral zone forecheck. For example, if set to a 1-3-1 and a bias to full neutral zone, your team will set up in the 1-3-1 every time down the ice.

Also, you can change up the AI strategy to effect the team tendencies or line by line.
By Team: Powerplay Carry vs. Powerplay Dump – Are you going to grind them down or keep the puck and work it into the zone like the Detroit Red Wings?

By Forward Line:
* Carry vs. Dump – AI more likely to carry the puck in or dump and chase.
* Cycle vs. Shoot – If your team will look for any shot, or worry about possession and high percentage chances
* Efficiency vs. Energy – Will your team conserve energy or hustle more with high intensity?
* Don’t Block vs. Block – Will your AI teammates allow the goalie to see the shot or attempt to block?

By Defensive Pair:
* Hold Line vs. Pinch – Will your defensive AI hold the blueline or take risks to pinch?
* Cycle vs. Shoot – Tendency for your defensive AI to put the puck in to cycle or put shots on net?
Haha, thats awesome. If my phone's speaker wasn't so I quiet I'd totally use it too.
Actually, they were a bit quiet. I just boosted them by 6db, so they should work better now. I ended up going with the second one, as the "ohhh" sound effect did start to wear on me pretty quickly, haha.

Never saw this either.

EA chose against including fantasy draft because it didn't want the barrier of entry to be a tedious 45-round draft. If you want to mix up the teams so no one is forced to play with the Edmonton Oilers (zing!) you can randomize the rosters when starting the league

Freaking awesome! Finally trades will mean so much more now!

- You can do directed poke checks in this game. What this means is if you hit left or right as you hit your poke check, your player will do a two handed chop at the puck. At one point in the game, I swung my stick with both hands and knocked the puck to the left side of the ice. This is a small feature, but does add more flavor to the game and adds a bit of strategy to your poke checks.

Nice.

Anyone want to fiddle fack with me tonight?

I swear to God...if the Predators let Shea Weber go the Flyers, I'm going to lose my shit. It's a ridiculous contract...for a lot of money...that would last until he's 40, but the guy is a top 5 defenseman. When you develop star players, at some point you have to pay them. And seriously...the fuckING FLYERS???

I don't think they have any choice but to match it, especially after they kept telling fans that they would match any offer sheet he signed. It is a lot of money, but its on par with what Suter signed for and Weber is a better player. Like you said, at some point you have to pay your top guys and let's be realistic here, does Nashville (or any other team) really think anyone is going to take less than market to stay? Only Crosby and a select few have done that. Does Nashville think they are going to lock up Weber for 7 years $35 million? Get real. Philly actually made it easy for Nashville, just match the offer and you have your #1 guy locked up for a long time at the market rate.

Yeah, that's all entirely true. It does just basically put the ball in Nashville's court. If they're serious about contending, they have to match the offer. It's that simple. If matching the offer would put them in a position that they can't sign other high end players to compete, then they're not serious about winning a Cup anyway.

They're a young team and have a lot of strong prospects but I just can't see letting your top two defensemen (not to mention your team captain) walk. You could argue that you're overpaying, but as you said, when other players are getting similar deals....what can you do? Gotta step up or get passed over.

I hope these live moments are awesome and added every week when the season begins.

Also, really? Complete set is back? If anybody needs that achievement let me know. Have a full Tampa set.

Don't mind my edits!

Assign a captain to your Hockey Ultimate Team using the Assign Captain item - Awesome finally!

Get traded to another team in Be A Pro with a Created Pro - Hope it works awesome this year unlike last game.

Hit the post 3 times in 1 game in Be A Pro with a Created Pro - Ha Ha! That's what? 1 and a half points?

Score a goal while injured in Be A Pro with a Created Pro - Play through injuries? Hope so! Get injured bad enough and sit out? Hope so!

Score a goal with your goalie pulled - Hope this relates well. Pulling goalie essental but not in EASHL, which I hope does make a difference finally

Complete 30 EA SPORTS™ Hockey League regular matches without receiving a DNF or backout penalty - oh boy! Lol

Yeah, glad to see they added the "Alan Achievement", haha.

Are You Kidding Me? 15
Hit the post 3 times in 1 game in Be A Pro with a Created Pro

Ah, there's also the "Douchebag Achievement", lol. I'll be doing that one offline.

Coast To Coast 30
Starting from behind your net, skate up the ice and score without passing

It also looks like we'll be able to name EASHL team captains and assistant captains...unless all it means is that it's like normal where the 1st person to select a position is the captain, and the 2nd and 3rd to select a position will be assistant captains.

Lead By Example 20
As captain or assistant captain, be named one of the 3 stars during an EASHL match

They really like to bring back the same achievements year in and year out in NHL, but they do the same thing with all the EA Sports games for the most part. Would like to see EA actually build an achievement list from scratch in a game for once. Then again at least you don't have to break the Gretzky point record this year so that is an improvement.

Not sure if anybody saw, but the $15 pre-order credit from Amazon now applies to the Stanley Cup Edition as well. Still not worth it to me, but some might be interested.

Too late. If I want the Ballz stick, I'll just download it or some shit. Nate, can you make me a Jewiroux cover? :) or see if anybody can make one.

Just finished watching "Goon" on Netflix instant stream. What a great freaking movie! Definitely an homage to Slap Shot in a way, but with a bit less parody. Definitely one everybody should check out.

As a Pens fan I would first off like to applaud the Preds for keeping Shea Weber away from the Cryers. On that same note, I might actually pay $20 more for the Stanley Cup edition if I don't have to look at Giroux on the cover.

Just to clarify, other than the tin case are there no other physical items that come with the Collectors edition? A tin case, a couple of HUT packs and the CCM boost pack is all we get?
Just to clarify, other than the tin case are there no other physical items that come with the Collectors edition? A tin case, a couple of HUT packs and the CCM boost pack is all we get?
Basically. Really, a bad "collectors" item, as those things used to be pre-order bonuses in the past, albiet through different retailers, so now they are consolidated, but really, the new thing is just the tin case (hooray for run-on sentences).

Well, I guess it does come with a 10% off NHL.com order, so if one plans on ordering something from there, it could be worth it depnding on the amount of purchase.

Edit: Well, just checked the store at NHL.com, and they are offering 10% off an order for new customers, so if you've never ordered before, that deal is there anyways lol

Yup, so pretty much the worst CE in the history of video games, lol. Your money would be better spent finding a custom cover and having it professionally printed at Kinkos. Really, anybody who is that into HUT, would probably be better off just pre-ordering the regular edition at GameStop, where you get the 1 free Gold pack a week for 3-4 months or whatever it is.

Yea, you can always get some % off when buying stuff at NHL.com via their email promos. I probably get 1 or 2 a week so the 10% off coupon is basically worthless.

I guess the whole "digital" collectors edition fits in with EA's push to microtransactions in all their EA sports games. The Madden Hall of Fame edition was basically the same thing last year, same with Tiger Woods. Nothing other than a slightly different case and some other physical throw ins. Pretty sad when they want you to pay $20 extra for a bunch of digital content. At least give us a big box and some hideous statue/figurine that will gather dust on our shelves! LOL

HUT is meaningless to me once I get the achievements so getting a bunch of gold packs from GS/EB isn't really worth much to me. I'll probably just get the regular edition from Amazon with the $15 credit, unless something better pops up close to release. I'll pick up the Stanley Cup edition if I see it on sale somewhere down the road. I know you could score the Madden HoF edition on the cheap once the season was done, although I know there were probably 10x as many copies of that made in comparison to the Stanley Cup Edition.

Yeah, only reason I mentioned HUT was because since the CE is basically all digital bonuses, the pre-order bonus GameStop offers with the standard edition is reasonably comparable. I'm really disappointed that EA couldn't give us SOMETHING physical here. Like I've said before, a mini stick or a puck that says NHL 13 on it, a keychain, a captain's "C" patch with the NHL 13 logo on it, etc. How difficult is this stuff to brainstorm? But EA would rather go cheap and lazy.

Digital content is digital content. Yes, we pay for it at times throughout the year while we're playing the game...but that's because we're already caught up in the game mode it's tailored to (BAP, HUT, etc). But pretending that these extras have some inherent worth is ridiculous. They cost EA nothing. They're selling us digital air.

Also, here's the first look at the GM Connected mode. It looks awesome. I know Gary mentioned before that there won't be a fantasy draft, but that you can randomize the rosters. As interesting as that might be, I think it's cool that most of us are fans of different teams, so using real rosters probably wouldn't be a big issue. Plus, with us having no control over the random rosters, I can only imagine what EA would consider "balanced", lol.

Yup finished reading it earlier. Looks and sounds really fun, can't wait to give it a try. Dibs on the Rangers!

Pretty sure you're the only Rangers fan in here, lol. I have no idea how much interest a true NHL Online Franchise mode will generate on CAG, but the only conflicts I can think of would be Colorado (Brandon and Alan could flip a coin, or play an Avs vs Avs game for it, or wrestle in pudding, haha), Penguins (No real regulars, but I know we've had several Pens fans float in and out of here over the years), and maybe the Flyers (flyersfan and Kaster...if either of them are around) and Lightning (slickkill is a Lightning fan, but Gary is a regular...so he'd get them).

Matt might have some competition for the Kings because they're "in" right now...but the team would obviously be his. I don't think I have any competition for the Preds (thank God they matched the Shea Weber offer!). It'll be interesting to see how many old faces we see for this. We've played with a lot of people over the years, haha. I'm definitely looking forward to it though. I'll get a franchise thread for it put together in a couple weeks.

Well, problem last season was that nobody wanted to trade at all. Even for shitty players so that their team would be a complete roster. With the random, I can see more trades. Either way, I call Tampa. I like how the mode is almost real life.

Commissioner, GM, and Players. If only we had 750 people! Lol

"The Commissioner is not all powerful. If he is abusing his power as Commissioner, the league’s GMs can vote to have him removed. The GM who initiates the vote, if successful, will then become Commissioner." Better watch it Nate!! Lol

I think a pudding wrestling match would be great between Alan and Brandon. Yes, I call Tampa as you see slickkill in here about once a year if even that. The mobile ap even looks awesome. Something for me to do between periods when watching the Lightning or when I'm at the rink waiting for my game or in the locker room getting dressed.

The amount of people who use the Kings online now in VS is sickening. I like the random rosters idea, it would definitely spark more trades.
