Official NHL 17 Discussion/CAG Team Thread - Ausfahrt Banditos: The Res-Erection

That might be one of the harder sounding shots I've ever heard.

On a HUT related note... I finally got TW activated.  I lost a D1 clincher where I needed two points.  The AI took a hooking penalty in the offenseive zone with 37 seconds to go in OT and the AI scored for the guy on the following face off.  I was so pissed, the guy position locked the goalie and had his back against the pipes all game and had no problem stopping 34 of 37 shots.  Of course his AI buried 4 of 8 shots.

After that I said screw it and went for Linden.  I completed the Nashville set since all I needed was Forsberg and Johanssen and two golds and flipped him for 165k.  Then finished the Vancouver set.  I think I'm pretty happy with my team now. I played four games with TWs active and have won 7-2, 3-0- 3-1, and made a guy quit when I was up 3-0 with 2 mins to go in the 1st.

Team looks like this:

Graves - Richards - McDavid (MOV)

Bissonette - Linden - Bucyk

Pavelski (base) - Duchene (base) - Matthews (MOV)

Marner (base) - MacKinnon (base) - Larkin (MOV)

Shanny - Doughty (base)

McDonagh (base) - Burns (base)

Saarijarvi - Subban (base)

Bishop (MOV) - some silver scrub goalie with + 1 TW

WW, OJ, S, HH, and TW active.

I've also become a firm believer of ice tilt with Bishop in net with a high rated goalie he usually gives up 3 or 4 a game.  Now with this silver scrub he's allowed 3 goals in 3 games and a period.

I rented NBA 2k17 from Redbox. Someone had copied the cover of the disc and pasted it on NBA 2k16. Pretty sure I was punished for my interest in a basketball game.

I'm surprised neither of them fell over with all that padding. That they showed anyways.

Just got an update when I started NHL. This is what it fixes, adds, and adjusts according to the EA forums.

HOCKEY ULTIMATE TEAM:

Hockey Ultimate Team™ - Competitive Seasons
Competitive Seasons is a new game mode which allows players to compete in a “monthly” season format to earn in-game rewards. Each monthly season consists of rounds. Complete three games to earn round points which determine your ranking on the Round Leaderboards. At the end of each round, you will earn a reward as well as Season Points that count towards your season total. Finish as high as you can in each round to accumulate as many season points as possible to earn a larger reward at the end of the season.
*NOTE: Rounds and Season durations are subject to change.

GAMEPLAY (Tuner 1.02):

ALL MODES

Player Updates:
• Tuned down puck carrier’s reaction speed to reacquire a puck after losing it.

User Goalie Updates:
• Increased ability to make saves in tight to their body and decreased ability when reaching to reward better puck tracking and cutting off angles.
• Increased ability to make saves on cross grain shots by tuning movement so goalies will stay square even if the user is requesting to move away from the shot direction.
• Increase save success on blocking saves.
• Decreased the impact goalie movement to help promote puck tracking so that good angles and positioning mean the most for a goalie’s ability to make a save.
• Decreased screen effect slightly.
• Increased goalie speed for post-to-post movement.
• Increased AI goalie’s awareness for a possible shot off a faceoff.
• Increased ability to react after a save to increase their chance of getting back in position and making rebound saves.
• Rolled back change from previous patch for the goalie occasionally getting stuck in butterfly as it was causing a worse knock on issue.

EASHL MODE ONLY

EASHL Player Class Updates:
Goalies
• Increased all goalie classes height to 6’2”.
• Increased speed and agility of all goalies and added variance with Standup being the highest and Butterfly being the lowest.
• Increased Hybrid goalie’s recover rating so that he is now faster recovering than the Butterfly goalie.
• Increased rebound control of all classes. Standup goalie’s will still have the lowest rating while Butterfly goalies will have the highest.
• Increased poke check ability for all classes. Hybrid has the best poke check rating of the three classes and Butterfly has the lowest.
• Hybrid goalie now has the best stick side and paddle down rating of the three classes.
• Increased vision for all classes. Butterfly is still the lowest and Standup is still the highest.
• Increased 5-hole rating for both the Hybrid and Butterfly classes to separate them from the Standup goalie.
• Increased rebound control for the AI goalie class.

Players
• Lowered hand-eye ratings for all classes and rebalanced the category to see more realistic deflections and bat-ins across the different player classes.
• Lowered shooting attributes of Grinder, Power Forward and Enforcer Forward.
• Lowered passing attribute for the Grinder.
• Increased balance of the Two Way Forward and Hitting Sniper class.
• Increased the ability for defensive builds to intercept passes but still kept the same variance in abilities relative to each of the classes.
• Increased the minimum rating a player needs to get a saucer lift on a regular pass. Now Playmaker, Jumbo Playmaker and Puck Moving D will be the only players with the advantage.
• Raised discipline of the Two Way Dangler.
• Tuned down puck carrier’s reaction speed to reacquire a puck after losing it.

BE A PRO:

• Fixed an issue where player fighting bias was being set to 0 when the league year changed from year 1 to 2.
Edit: the delayed reaction time is nice. I played 5 games and if you knock a puck loose most times they don't get it back and it ends up getting scooped up by the nearest person. It feels a lot more like the beta with guys losing the puck while trying to dangle through two defenseman.

The quick deke backhand seems to be less effective (although I started using Kolzig... so that might be why). And I didn't see a single goal off a faceoff.

Those sound like good changes. We'll find out soon enough.

For the Private matchmaking, I wonder what griefing was.

Well, what do you know...perrenial shithead, Brad Marchand, is in trouble for a dirty trip again.

http://nhl.nbcsports.com/2017/01/25/marchand-to-have-hearing-for-dangerous-trip-on-kronwall-video/

I guess this one technically isn't slewfooting because it was such a cheap shot that he didn't even need to use his arms to push Kronwall over, but I'd imagine the league is sick of his shit after letting this one go two weeks ago.

Neither of these drew a penalty. Unreal.

They are so sick of it they fined him 10k, but not a single suspenion because they thought it would mess with the All Star Game, that's complete horseshit. They gave John Scott so much bullshit because the NHL didn't think he was an all star (great book that explains it even further actually and the shit the NHL said to him even more so). Yet, don't suspend one of the dirtiest pieces of shit playing hockey right now, because it might affect his All Star Game Status. It infuiriates me. The reffing, the NHL (not the NHLPA), and DoPS has been getting worse every fucking year.

Yeah, it's just not going to happen tonight for me, guys. My daughter is sick again and she keeps waking up feeling upset. No telling how many times that's going to happen before the sun comes up.

What's the book. I want to check it out.

Thanks. I had read his article on Players Tribune that went up around the all-star game and instantly became a fan. I don't know if it is in the book, but I think it was someone from the Coyotes front office asked him if he thought going to the All-Stars game was something his daughters should be proud of. He stated how he wasn't planning on doing it until they said that and a bunch of other all-star players started telling him that he should go since he put in the same work they did.

Wasn't the Yotes GM, was actually an NHL official that called and kept asking him over and over. It is in the book and goes even further into it.

Or do what I did and build a Raspberry Pi emulator and have ALL the systems for about $60 bucks!! Only thing it runs slow is Dreamcast for some reason.

Also, ONCE AGAIN Marchand being a POS and Slew Footing Stralman. I've never wished for a player to be injured, but fuck Marchand so much. Can only hope for a career ending injury.

Stralman got called for a penalty, on that. NHL reffing at its finest!!

Well, yeah...for sure. I soft-modded my Wii and have a bunch of emulators on it too. So, that serves the same purpose. I just mean if you wanted one that actually looks like an NES...at least now the Classic is a reasonable option now that it can hold well over 30 games. I wouldn't ever pay the crazy prices for one...but maybe in like a year or two from now, they'll be common.

Holy crap...Oculus just lost their lawsuit hard to Zenimax. The jury ruled that Palmer Luckey did break his NDA...and Zenimax was awarded a $500 million judgment. For those who remember, Facebook bought Oculus for $2 billion...so yeah, now they have to give 25% of that away. Not sure what that means for the future of Oculus, but I bet Valve is happy, lol.

Damn that's quite the award to Zenimax. It sounds like Luckey and Iribe are responsible to pay $200 millions ($50 mil and $150 mil respectively). The other $300 million would be the responsibility of Facebook unless it was otherwise stated in the purchase that the outstanding liability was to remain with the original party. However, seeing that Facebook lawyers were the ones that represented Oculus, that doesn't seem to be the case.

In reality, Iribe and Luckey are probably coming out ahead of all of this since they more than likely didn't have to foot the bill for the lawyers, had top notch lawyers through Facebook who probably lessened the damage and very well may have put them in position to win an appeal, and are only responsible for 40% of the settlement.

Yeah, I've seen some people say even a crazy total like $500 million won't affect them at all because it's Facebook and they'll either use their lawyers to settle for a lower amount, or they'll pay it and not bat an eye because they're the gods of the world anyway, haha.

I just looked at the article again and saw the new update. I guess Oculus is happy that they were cleared of "stealing ideas"...but still, that Oculus name has been dragged through the mud quite a bit the past couple years. They caught a lot of shit just from being bought by Facebook..and now they've got this to deal with. It will be interesting to see how they rebound, how it affects any potential price drops on the Rift, and where their development goes moving forward.

One thing is for sure, they're definitely not the darling of the tech world like they were in 2013.

Anybody for tonight? I won't be around this weekend. Wife got tickets for the Impractical Joker's live show tomorrow night, Solar Bears Saturday and Superbowl Sunday.

Humble released the rest of the games from the February bundle today. In addition to XCOM 2, it included RYSE: Son of Rome, ABZU, Steamworld Heist, Project Highrise, and that brand new indie horror game Husk (which I've heard good things about). Very solid bundle for $12.

Saw it on TV and it was a fantastic hit and they called him for 2 minutes charging and 5 minutes for fighting. Refs were like, well it's a big hit, call him. Cleanest hit I've seen but because of the size difference it looks like he was targeting the head which he wasn't. Then two guys go fight him because of it. Next time, keep your head up kid and you wouldn't get wrecked in the neutral zone.

Nate, funny we were talking about this while playing Siege tonight. They are implementing loot crates.

http://www.pcgamer.com/rainbow-six-siege-year-two-free-loot-better-matchmaking-subversive-operators/
Oh, wow. That's awesome. I really do hope they do it like Payday and give you something after every mission. I mean, it's almost the exact same set up....masks, weapon skins, charms, etc. Either give away the cosmetic stuff or give extra renown so things can be bought more easily.

Also, I saw this today...and it looks ridiculously amazing.

That demo looks awesome. I wonder if VR doesn't take off, if AR will be a viable alternative.
Yeah, it's hard to know. Putting a game in your own world sounds awesome...but it seems like you'd have to have a lot of different places to go and explore so it wouldn't get stale. I mean, I guess you could just go to a park or something. But where are you going to play a corridor shooter?

Even Portal...probably one of my favorite games ever, just playing it in your house and moving the companion cube around looks like the funnest thing in the world...but without the crazy Portal springboards and obstacles, how long does that last? Also, the thing they need to accomplish is allowing you to look through one portal and see out the other one. Doing that in AR would be badass.

Matt Nieto took a Shea Weber slapper off the calf, ouch.

Owie. There goes his team wheel!

It looks like a new tuner set came out today.

Tuner 1.02 Update (Feb. 8th, 2017)
*We are overwriting the 1.02 tuner with revisions to the goalie tuning to better reflect our original goals after community feedback and further testing.

- Increased top end of goalies precision speed
- Increased goalies ability to make saves in tight to their body even more
- Decreased screen effect some more
- Delay tuning on reactionary saves is now less harsh and more forgiving for being slightly out of position compared to the previous tuner.
Looks like they're admitting they made goalies too soft. Hopefully this cuts down on all the 5 goals on 9 shots games we've been seeing.

Ooh, good find. I might actually do that. Amazon gives $16.98 for the standard edition. Not a bad price to get the Year 2 pass and to be able to switch from NHL to R6 instantly when I'm pissed, lol. :)

In other news...I got 99 Datsyuk! :)

EDIT - Wow...I'm glad I jumped on the R6 deal. It must have been a price mistake because it shows $59.99 now. Can't believe I finally didn't miss out on a deal, lol. It's been awhile. Thank you, Gaga!

Dangit, missed out on R6.

How does Datsyuk play?
I've only used him in a couple games so far, but he seems pretty monstrous. Just the fact of having 99s for everything...it feels like he can do things that are completely out of character for him. He absolutely wrecks people on hits, he beats out icing calls all the time, etc. There was one flip in particular that I thought for sure was going to be icing. Then, all of a sudden Datsyuk comes flying in, so I switch to him, a good 3-4 strides behind the defenseman going back. Datsyuk just flies around him, grabs the puck and I was able to pass it out in front for a one timer goal.

It's little things like that that just seem almost unfair and unrealistic...but whatever. This is what EA has turned the game into. Between him, Richards, the Halloween cards, those crazy high/low International POTG cards, there are so many players now that just have stupid attribute numbers. I've got Richards as my 2nd line C now and moved TOTW Getzlaf to 4th line LW (along with Malhotra and Bissonnette...freaking bruiser line that one is, haha).

I'm not even running team wheel right now...and my guys still feel very fast. Sometimes I wonder if having synergies active affects how the defensive AI reacts to them. I feel like I'm getting around guys easier now without it. Even somebody like Daniel Sedin has been in open ice on a few occasions without getting caught from behind.

My lineup still feels really unbalanced though. I'm using 86 ovr TOTW Gaborik as my top line RW (he's seriously one of my best goal scorers) and 86 ovr TOTW Grabner as my 2nd line RW...but I'm 7-1-0 with this lineup. So, why change it if it's working? I've been playing only competitive seasons...so I'm not sure how the matchmaking for that works. But I've played a couple teams loaded with legends and HUT Heros. I like the rewards for the competitive seasons though. So far, I've gotten two of the Gold Expansion Plus packs (the 20 card ones). I pulled an Evgeny Kuznetsov in one and sold him for 24K.

I finished off my sets for Datsyuk by doing Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, and San Jose. I ended up keeping Doug Wilson on MVP's recommendation. He was the fastest of the 3 defensemen, has a pretty good shot, and hits like a truck. I also have 8 synergies active again. (3 team, 5 individual).

Just had an odd game against a Frenchie (go figure). First weird thing...he actually wanted to fight. That never happens. Anyway, first fight, I wreck LaFontaine with Steve Sullivan. Second fight...it's a rematch, I beat his ass again...but the announcers talk about Sullivan being injured (I seriously had half my health bar left in both fights with my helmet still on). They later announce that Sullivan won't be able to return to the game. Sweet...win two fights easily, and lose my player (and looking at it after the game...it's a 3 game torso injury...from winning two fights).

I'm up 3-0 late in the 3rd, he finally gets a goal on a point shot from Ray Bourque to make it 3-1. Immediately, after the next faceoff, I score on a point shot of my own. Game ends, and who gets first star? Ray Bourque...with one pity goal, lol. Granted, nobody on my team had more than one point...but Rinne stopped 18 out of 19 and got 2nd star.

I'm sorry game. Montreal got its ass kicked. You can injure my players and take away my first star, but it still happened.
