Soooo...I guess the Florida Panthers are reaching into new markets, partnering with their local ESPN Desportes affiliate to broadcast 3 games on the Spanish station this year. This was the ensuing result. I cannot believe this exists...but what a wonderful thing it is.

(I would have embedded the video, but CAG 3.0 has gotten even shittier and Youtube embedding doesn't work anymore)

Time for EA to change announcers again. I want that guy in NHL 16. :)

Only 3 games? It sounds like they just needed something to fill some time slots. Is syndicated stuff more expensive than hiring a dude to call the game?

Rockstar finally confirmed first person for the new versions of gta5. Not really a secret because of the leaks but hadn't been made official until now. Apparently it will use a control layout like most FPS and include a different cover system.

Urban Trials is probably makes the $1 worth it. Its a good enough knock off of Trials.
Yeah, that's basically my same logic, haha. I wasn't incredibly interested in Real World Racing. I mean, it sounds kind of cool with the photo aerial maps...but top down racer...ugh.. But yeah, the Trials knockoff seems decent. 3 games for $1. Can't really go too wrong.

Oh, also, to go back to the question of "Is the Xbox One hard drive big enough?", I read today that the Master Chief Collection is going to have a 15GB day one patch. So, yeah...there you go, lol. For me, I don't really plan on using my XB1 for "all teh gamez", so I figure I'll just ride it out. But for anybody who actually plans on using it a lot, 500GB might as well be a floppy disk, haha.

I've got about 8 retail games and maybe 10 indie games on my one and have about 10 gigs left. But, this is why I also bought the 3TB when it was on sale.

Yeah, I might hop on the COD one (but my god ,that thing looks butt ugly imo)

I think the MCC situation is an exception though- inst it pretty much the entire multilayer is the downloads, and SP is on the disc? Its also like 4 games worth of MP too, so that explains why its that big (4000 achievement points too lol)

Yeah, that makes for an average of about 27GB per game, lol (not considering system resources, apps, etc...but you get the idea). I feel like proportionally, the 20GB hard drive that the 360 started with was "roomier", haha. Super smart move getting the 3 TB drive on your part. :)

Holy balls. Youtube videos are working on CAG again. This was shared in the NHL thread in the off topic forum in case anyone didn't see it. Freaking hilarious.

*sees 2 on 0 coming*

"Nope. fuck this."

Yeah, I filled up my hard drive to 99% in less than 4 months. I do have a couple EA Access trials on there: NBA Live 15 and FIFA 15. Deleting those will get me half the space I need for Halo when I pick it up on Tuesday.

He flipped the net because his 2 on 0 percentage of actually saving the puck was either a 10 or 20 percent chance his whole career. I love that the head coach John of the Preds took a puck to the lip and still coached the rest of the game.

Well, yeah. You could almost argue it was smart on his part. A penalty shot is only a 1 on 0, lol. Might as well improve your odds by one player (though, really, in the interest of sportsmanship, there should probably be a 5 minute major for doing that).

I just like how the net practically bounced all NHL 13 style (aw, there's another unintentionally hilarious thing I miss). Just the tone of the entire thing is like "Oh, fuck this shit..."

And head coach John? You mean Peter Laviolette? Yeah, gives a new meaning to "head shot".

The only thing though is they also could have opted for a regular 2 minute penalty, and they were already on the PK, so it would have been a 5 on 3. Also, it's hindsight, but the guy bibles the pass anyways, so it was actually an unnecessary penalty in the end.

Couldnt have opted for the penalty as its an automatic penalty shot for that leagues rules. Not like football where you can decline or accept the penalty shot.

Haha... I feel like I've sinned by laughing at that. Guess I'd better go read my bobble.

What you dont see it we only made it like 5 feet into the river
Haha, true. But that city was RIGHT THERE!

Also, GRID Autosport is awesome. I can't believe how easily they got it to work with the DK2...and in Direct Mode. Somehow it even keeps a good framerate while displaying on my main monitor and DK2 simultaneously. It's crazy how much clean coding and optimization count for.

I'd say it might be even more fun than Assetto Corsa. The cars aren't quite as detailed and the physics aren't as realistic...but that means you can just drive really fast and have fun. Taking the Bugatti Veyron for a spin around that San Francisco road course with all the jumps is fun as hell. Plus, the damage is hilarious. When you go too fast into a turn and slam the side of your car into a wall and the door falls off and you just look over like "yup...my door is gone", it's really funny.

And this is that New Retro Arcade game I was telling you about, Alan.

Seriously.... fuck that fucking guy. I hope he goes outside and gets a pie in his face. How much money do you think he spent on that team?

Sounds about right... I don't know what division you are in, but it only gets worse. I've been in division 1 for about a month, and the teams I play are stacked. Mine is too, but I've only used actual money on 2 packs. Both of which netted me jack shit. I've built my team having played close to 400 games.

Today I played a guy that had this team:
Crosby
Malkin
Stamkos (first time I've seen him)
Bergeron
Ovechkin
Datsyuk
Toews
Kane
Hossa
Nash
Kopitar
Sharp
With a D of
Doughty
Chara
Keith
Subban
Kronwall
Karlsson
And his goalie was Quick.

I beat him 3-1 and got a message saying I got lucky after getting a shorty off an intercepted pass, a slapper, and a one timer between the circles after he went for the hit behind the net.

What type of coin payouts do you get from HUT games?  If you are playing vs the computer do you get a better payout vs higher rated teams than against lower ones?

I'm sure it will just be a new way to pay to win.
Hahaha.... I really wish they'd go back to the old format of having player packs, consumable packs, etc. Or at least having player packs mixed with team logos, jerseys, and what not.

As for what the new era is... I'm wondering if maybe they are finally going to add in Offline and Online tournaments so that all those bronze and silver players actually serve a purpose.

On another side note... I don't know if it happened yesterday afternoon/evening, but they released 13 legend players. Going through the auction house here is who I see for legends:

Player - OVR

Gilmour - 88

Robitaille - 89

Lidstrom - 94

Roy - 97 (As a Hab and not as an Av)

Bourque - 92

Bossy - 92 (I consider myself a pretty big fan, but who the fuck is this?)

Lemieux - 92

Modano - 88

Kurri - 92

Bure - 92

Sakic - 92? (The only one available is boosted to 97 using +5 All)

Gretzky - 96

Not sure who the 13th one is.

Now here is where the legends get EA... Those ratings. Not sure how they got those for overalls.

For instance Lidstrom's ratings are:

OVR - 94

Skating - 85

Shooting - 81

Hands - 88

Checking - 83

Defense - 94

Meanwhile Bourque is:

OVR - 92

Skating - 87

Shooting - 89

Hands - 93

Checking - 83

Defense - 91

It gets even worse when you try to compare them to other top D-men.

You get 600 coins just for completing a game regardless of online or CPU. From their it varies based on how well you do. I haven't really noticed much of a difference in payouts beating the Sabres vs say Boston or LA. The second payout category seems to be based mostly off how many goals you score and the third is "Fan Appreciation" which seems to have very little rhyme or reason. The closest thing I have been able to determine about the Fan Appreciation is if it is a close game til late or come from behind victory or has a fight or two... But, even then it doesn't seem very consistent.

Thanks for the info, I just started working on the collection achievements after building up some coins over the past few weeks by logging in daily. Doesn't seem like there are nearly as many cards for sale as there are on the 360 version, and this interface is painfully slow. Finally have a team of all NHL players so might start playing a bit, but I have heard about some of these stacked teams from a friend who plays it constantly.

Mike Bossy played for the NY Islanders in the 80s. Only played 10 years but averaged 57 goals per season while winning 4 cups.

Don't really want to nitpick ratings, but Lemieux only 92 is a bit silly. Should be closer to Gretzky rather than with the rest of the pack at 92.

Yeah, there's really not much variation in coin payout. You generally get between 700 - 1000 per game. But at least in the online seasons, you can get a bonus for maintaining your division/getting promoted/winning the division title. The good thing about this system is you can usually buy one 80-85 player in the auction house with the payout from just one game. That's a huge change from Madden where players cost like 10 times more than what you get by playing a game.

And as much as I hate playing people with superstar teams loaded with guys who cost 100,000+ coins each, playing a human opponent is the closest thing the game has to a league type feeling. With a human, I can at least try to manipulate him and use his weaknesses against him (really, I should have beat the superstar team. I was up 2-0...and then just got lax with my defense. I also didn't count on his goalie getting better the more aggressive he got though). It's actually incredible how many people don't handle dump and chase very well.

Though it does get really annoying defending against the same thing the entire game. The shortside wrister from the high slot is alive and well, and some people will just look for it ALL game long. And the AI gets fooled so easily, with speedy skaters, people can just skate from one side to the other until they get the right "combination" of AI being caught going the wrong way with the slot being wide open. If you're not diligently switching from player to player and cutting off their angles, they'll put up a ton of goals this way.

I beat a guy 4-1 the other day who ended up having 7 minutes more time on attack than me (though the same number of shots) because he just kept circling around waiting for it to open up. My defense was great that game though and I only gave up a sympathy goal in the final 5 minutes.

As for striker's question about deals on the game, used at Gamestop with the 20% off birthday coupon and 10% off power up rewards discount makes the game $35.  And you don't give EA any support for how they botched the game this year. So, win - win.

On the non-hockey side of the discussion, Five Nights At Freddy's 2 is already out on Steam. Talk about striking while the iron is hot. The developer actually did change a decent amount of stuff but that game must be super easy to make. I can't imagine how much money he's making from these games.

Yea, I ended up looking him up after I made that post. I guess it doesn't help he retired at the end of the 86-87 season, 5 or 6 months before I was born lol. Plus, he's not one of those guys you hear talked about that much, which after looking at his accomplishments and stats, is actually pretty surprising that he isn't considering he has some really damn impressive numbers.

This... All of this. Add the sometimes way too obvious "ice tilt" and those are my three biggest things that piss me off about this game. I lost a game this morning 2-1 after he got one goal of a shortside wrister, even though the puck had been poked away off his stick, and the 2nd goal came after I was using Bergeron to go after the puck carrier behind my net and when he went back the other way, AI Chara decided to screen me, while AI Doughty watched a one timer go right to his guy and in.

I also managed to further break the game the other day... I was able to get myself a 7 Minute penalty yesterday... Yes, 7 minutes all at once and not a 5 on 3 for 2 and then a 5 on 4 for an additional 3. I dove to block a shot and got a tripping. Switched off and the guy I dove with got up and hit someone behind for a 5 min major. I have a video of the ensuing faceoff with the powerplay clock reading at 7 mins. I'll have to post it later.

Yeah, and what I really hate about it is they screwed up switching players this year. It now works like Madden where it sometimes doesn't switch you to the defender closest to the puck...but just another random player. In a hockey game, this is even worse because you can end up pulling another defender out of position if you're holding a direction on the left stick, assuming you're getting the player you think you're getting.

I usually end up letting go of the left stick and taking a half second to make sure it gave me the player I wanted or needing to press RT again before I can finally make a play on the puck. I've debated if I'd be better off just letting the AI cover it and me sticking with one player OTP style. But you're really rolling the dice doing this. Against somebody who knows what they're doing, they can make the AI look full retard.

Stick spamming is also still too effective. While there probably are more penalties than in last year's game, I sometimes feel like people use the logic that the chance for success in just raping you and taking the puck away is worth the risk of getting a penalty. And there's still no sense of context in the game when calculating this chance of success.

You can knock the puck away (which realistically, should confuse the other player for a second), but they can just wail away on the A button and insta-rape the puck right back...from behind. To me, that's wild, reckless play and should have the highest chance of a slashing/hooking/high stick penalty. But more often than not, it just gives them the puck back. It's even better when an AI teammate gets in your way and won't move, facilitating the rape even more.
