Official NHL Not 15 (14) Discussion/CAG Team Thread - Headsets On Pants Off! New Team!

Should have told me Bout Rinne and Weber a couple days ago before I auctioned them off!!
A couple days ago, my collections weren't working anyway.

Also, is it just me or did they do the same old shit with this last patch? The game feels WAY more like NHL 13/14 now. It makes no sense. I've ugraded my team with better players than I had a week ago...but my defense has gotten worse. The AI is so ridiculously easy for people to fool and blow past.

All it takes is a little zigzag and the entire fucking defense gets out of position thanks to their momentum carrying them the wrong way. I've seen the wonderful French Canadians abusing this more than anybody. They just skate around, holding the puck out, creating holes in the AI to skate through. Then, any time you get the puck...spam, spam, spam. It's fucking disgusting.

On top of that, the AI seems less aware too. Today I had a loose puck bounce out toward a guy, and I didn't want to switch into him and risk pulling him the wrong direction since the puck was bouncing right to him. Instead, it stopped next to him, and he spun around the other way, in a complete circle never picking it up.

I had won like 8 games in a row in HUT, just basically utilizing solid defense, and just waiting on my opponent to get impatient or overly aggressive to capitalize for a goal. I'm sure in the minority of EA's typical customers in having patience and enjoying strategy, but these games were fun to me since it felt like an exercise in consistency and endurance. But now it just feels like the same old garbage. I'm even back to outshooting teams and having more time on attack...and losing.

In more important and much more exciting news, Alan and I ventured down a rabbit hole last night (in a sexy way?), and long story short, we were playing NHL 94 online teamplay on a Sega Genesis emulator. And we have a theory that it might be possible to at least do 2v2 online teamplay the same way.

Also, Alan's firewall sucks, lol.

Ok, I made offers on 5 of those (2 Austria and 3 Poland)...which will give you the full White Prospect team set. I'm going to see if I can complete one of the other countries and then I'll offer that for Denmark.

EDIT - Annnnnd done. I bought the logo card I needed for the Red Prospect team (so dumb how certain random cards are just super expensive). So, now those are offered for Denmark as well.

Also, didn't I trade you a Russia away jersey in our Italy trade? Wasn't it the two Austria (because you had one from a free pack) and then the Russia away? It's cool if you don't have it anymore. I just want to make sure we're not buying duplicates of stuff we don't need. I've got a Russia home jersey.

I also have Kazakhstan and France completed, so I guess we're both good with those.
I'd have to look though I don't remember for certain. I know I never got rid of any of those cards though so whatever it is, I'll have it. And I accepted all those offers as well. I'll take a look later.

I've played that online before, didn't realize you could two on a team.

Pretty sure it was Austria, not Russia, as I haven't completed that one Nate.
You're right. I was thinking you traded me the whole Italy collection. But it must have just been two cards and I bought the third one. That makes sense now.

Nate, I've listed the Home Italy jersey and Italy logo (I can't trade the away jersey) for 2500 coins, 6000 BIN and 3 days. Would you mind sending me (if you can) Austria's home jersey and logo in a trade?

Yeah, so this just came out on Steam and I had to pick it up (reseller of course...$8, haha).

It's not exactly well-polished and it still has a decent number of bugs (a lot of people wish they would have made it an Early Access game since the developer still plans on updating it), but it's a pretty cool game. It's kind of like The Sims if you actually played through the police career portion. You have to keep up with your hunger, energy, happiness...shower, visit family, and you can buy new furniture for your house or a new car.

Then, when you're on duty, you drive the police car around, watching for criminal activity. You can set up speed guns, road stops, and other things. And obviously get calls over the radio. My first call was for possible drug activity. I went around the corner of this gas station, saw a woman, who immediately pulled a gun and started shooting at me. I shot her in the head and then was instructed to call an ambulance, lol.

The community is already working on mods for the game too. People are modding in actual police department textures and somebody even said something about multiplayer. I just want to figure out how to import the theme from COPS and have it play when I'm driving around, haha.

Alan, looks like the $50 off deal for the One is a Microsoft holiday promotion that includes the bundles. The AW bundle is going to be down to $449 and the Sunset Overdrive and Assassins Creed bundles will be $349.

http://majornelson.com/2014/10/27/xbox-one-available-349-us-holiday-season/

I know you were leaning against picking it up but the deal is better than we thought. Just thought I'd let you know.
Tempting, but every time I get close to deciding to buy one, I just cant get around the thought that I am basically buying an Xbone just for NHL 15. Sunset and COD have piqued my interest, but barley at this point. Looking at the future release schedule makes me even less inclined. Maybe when OTP with friends is available.
Yeah, so this just came out on Steam and I had to pick it up (reseller of course...$8, haha).

That game is very...brown.

Yeah, Sunset Overdrive looks good and I have high hopes for AC Unity as well.  This next month has a lot of games I am probably getting.  Halo MC collection, Far Cry, next gen GTAV, and maybe WWE 2k15, depending how many people on my friends list will be playing it.

Nate, I've put up Germany and France up for auction. Three days, high pick amount.

To everyone else,I'll be on for a while if you want to play plants vs zombies garden warfare. Just shoot me a message.

I already have France. That was the first collection I got to actually work, haha. I'll figure out something to offer you for Germany though.

EDIT - Ok, there we go. Offered up Switzerland set for Germany.

Yeah, so for anybody who ever wants to suggest that the AI in NHL 15 "isn't that bad", I present this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVDCKQm8rSU&list=UUv3NwMy64M-ETSasnUK1vEQ

This is the garbage shit that happens in HUT all the time. Just simply weaving back and forth absolutely bewilders the AI. After my scoring chance, I had three guys back, so I thought..."I'm going to see what they do." I guess people could say "just stop it yourself" (which is what I normally do). But when the AI is this bad with their positioning, I feel like I'm constantly switching from one player to the next to "fix" where they should be. And with the way skating and momentum works in this game, that's damn exhausting.

Oh, and this was with Lehtonen in net...boosted to a 90 OVR and Niklas Hjalmarsson (86 OVR, 88 DEF) and Ryan Ellis (83 OVR, 84 DEF) in front of him. I'm not sure who the forward was that was back. But my lowest defensive rating for my forwards is an 83...with most being 85 or higher.

I have seen some videos and you tend to go for the hit, go for the poke check and stick lift as they are more effective when in the zone. Also, are you setting up your strategy before game? Because the strategy they set is extra attacking and not defensive at all.

Holy cow, this weeks Humble Bundle is great. BTA is currently $6.39.

https://www.humblebundle.com/

$1 Tier

OlliOlli

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet

I went in for the BTA tier. Don't really care about Shadowrun...but most of the rest I've been waiting on sales for for a while. I'm especially excited about OlliOlli, haha. :)

The right side #4 didnt do crap lmfao
Yeah...they have this weird tendency to collapse and run into each other more than anything. I've seen people intentionally trying to trigger that too. There's just some really sketchy hockey logic in the game. A lot of times off faceoffs, a winger will just inexplicably crash to the middle...like it's a tie up, even though the other team won the faceoff to their side. This allows the guy to just skate the puck up the ice unabaded.

I mean, it's just same old, same old. EA has no fucking clue what they're doing. Cycling is horrible too. Sometimes the AI will act like he's going behind the net, then just stand there on the back post and let the puck go whizzing by him around the boards. Or what's worse is the game will assume you want to pass TO him and you'll just throw it into traffic for an easy turnover. They just really don't go to the right spots this year...oh, and they go offside all the damn time.

Well...this was 3 AI. So...lol. I do have my strategies set though. Defense is on collapsing with normal pressure. 2-3 forecheck. And I switch between either a 1-4 neutral zone or a 1-2-2 passive.

Regardless for this video, it should be see play, make play. There are 3 guys back, and it's clear as day that all 3 are just "faked out" by the zigzag. I kind of suspect it tricks them into thinking they need to switch. Look at the way the RD just breaks off to the left all of a sudden. It's like intentionally trying to cross the d-men up...and when you have the right douchey forward, it works almost every time.

Oh, also, Alan, I know you have most of the games in that Humble bundle already...so, obviously, if you just want a Risk of Rain key, you can have one of mine, haha. :)

Thanks for the offer, but I have that already too lol.

Play Jazzpunk asap too. I need to talk to someone about how awesome that "game" is. (not sarcastic, its just loosely a game, like Gone Home)

Edit: Huh, looks like theres a short film for the Rift on Steam.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/268710/

Its only 15 minutes though, doesnt seem worth it. Might give them demo a spin though

Oh, haha. Well, I guess I will just call this the "Alan Should Have Waited" bundle then, lol.

That's cool about Jazzpunk. I like games that are not really games, haha.

And yeah, I think I mentioned that Rift "movie" the other night. I read about it on the Oculus forums. They were calling it a VR documentary. They didn't mention it was only 15 minutes long though. Once it goes off that intro discount that Steam does that will be a dollar a minute. That's like hooker prices, lol. I will pass.

I got in (I preordered it from Amazon just to get in). I think they sent me three extra codes as well. Let me make sure of that and if they are, you're welcome to one Matt.

Thank you, Rob, but it turns out I don't need one. I turned on my Xbox and had a message with a code for being a member of the preview program.

I haven't really given much thought to Evolve. It's definitely not something I'd pick up right away at any rate. I appreciate the offer for the beta though. Is it out yet? What's the DL size?

Also, Alan...I played a bit of Jazzpunk today, and I could tell right away why you like it so much, haha. It reminds me a ton of Frog Fractions. Really funny writing, but really out there gameplay. I've only completed the first mission, but I explored as much as I could and played several of the mini games. It's a crazy ass game, but seems really cool.

I can't believe I got that, OlliOlli, Machine for Pigs, and Risk of Rain for $6.40. It feels like forever since Humble has had a good indie bundle like this.

Huh, never realized it, but yeah, you're right, the humor definitley is reminiscent of Frog Fractions. I think what makes it is all the references/easter eggs.

Also, I love the art style of the opening movie

I have had it preordered from Amazon for a while so I got in that way.  Will probably cancel it unless the beta blows me away.  Thanks for the offer anyways Rob.

Damn...Costume Quest 2 is already 50% off on Steam. I think I'll look to my favorite Russian for that one, haha. I really didn't think it would go on sale this early...even for Halloween.

EDIT - $4.70 from my guy. I'm stupidly excited to play this game. The first one was fantastic.

It was alright but It got so repetitive that I gave up and never finished the story.

As for Evolve, After playing the beta, I went and paid off my copy. This is going to be a hell of a lot of fun when it comes out.

Yeah, I read that complaint...but the first one was kind of repetitive too. I mean, the combat is pretty basic. I figure it will be "more of the same" with a new story and well-written jokes. Unless there's something I'm missing Costume Quest was never the most deep or elaborate game in the world, haha. :)

Hmm...something is odd with Viscera Cleanup Detail's sale. CAG had it marked as on sale for $6.39, but when you go to the store page, it's actually showing up at $4.39 (which is the lowest it's ever been). I would think nothing of that except that the 4 pack is on sale for $17.99...or $4.50 a piece... ? So, not sure if price mistake or bad at math, lol.

If you buy the regular game, you get the Shadow Warrior and Santa's Rampage DLC as well. So, that's not a bad deal even with owning Santa's Rampage already.

So, funniest thing I heard so far on 15 otp, " My dog is barking and angry because you suck at center. You can't even win a face off." Something so stupid made me Crack up

Um...so apparently EA Sports World profiles don't work anymore? I went to look for that video I uploaded last night of the puck clipping through my stick and skates and when you try to go to your profile, a page loads that says "Player Hubs Are No Longer Available". Wondering if that's permanent because that would be really shitty.

I'm good with whatever.

I don't know if everyone has insurgency installed, but that has COOP.

Gun Monkeys- Not Coop, but I've heard is pretty fun.

Paydays 2?
