I have been having luck with OTP. Two teams and two great set of randoms. We cycle the puck one game because the whole entire tram would puck chase. Score of that game? Yeah, 10- 2.

Second game, half dump and case half cycle. Could have dumped and chased whole game because the other team got flustered as soon as we dumped it and had no idea what to do. So the two D would chase it while EVER forward broke out as 4 people would go chase from my team. That fame ended in 10-3. It's amazing when you can find a random team like that and they know how to cycle instead of just shoot or cycle between the forwards.

All in all, I prefer OTP over EASHL for the fact that you need line changes and fights actually do something.

God damn these fucking stick spammers. It's really awesome that you can check a guy off the puck, knock him down, and by the time your guy grabs the puck he's back up and rapes the puck right back. Seriously, EA. What fucking precision do you think these guys have with their sticks? So, I lose 4-1 to a shithead who can't pass over 52%. Yeah, wow. He's super good at this game.

Yeah, I am done with NHL 15 for awhile. Seriously, every fucking game now...stick spamming, dangling around for hours (and is it just me or is the bubble kind of back because I'm seeing guys shrug off double team contact and maintain possession of the puck because they were "holding it out to the side"), and dragging the puck through body parts to finish off their "sweet dekes".

I'm over it, man. I gave up a shorthanded goal on a play where he cleared it at my defenseman, then came flying at me with Kopitar, stick raped, took the puck clean, and was off on a breakaway before I could even do anything. It's just fucking ridiculous shitty "hockey". Same old, same old. These assholes don't even try to play right. It's just one video game-ism after another..."whatever it takes to climb the leaderboard" bullshit.

Also, it's weird how much you notice the ice tilt when you make your team better by acquiring better players, and somehow they actually play worse (and yeah, I've bought team cards for all of them, so my entire team has 100 chemistry). I've got Mike Green, Karl Alzner, Dan Hamhuis, and James Wisniewski as my top 4 d-men now (all 86 or higher), and I swear, they're worse than the 65 OVR guys I had when I first started. They're not hitting for shit and they just routinely turn their back to the play.

Really glad I didn't give EA any money for this game.

See what you've done, EA?
I know, right. They're going to drive me to play better games like Superman 64 and ET.

Honestly, I'll probably just finally get around to finishing Jazzpunk.

I do feel good about the fanmail I sent though. i told one guy that I hope he gets ebola for Christmas.

Holy crap. EA's entire servers have been down for like an hour. NHL, Madden, FIFA, Battlefield, etc. Can't log onto Origin either. Before anybody gets suspicious, it wasn't me, lol. :)

I SAID I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!!!

lol

Anyway, the wife felt like watching comedy tonight, so we actually got caught up on South Park. Where were they ripping on the Rift though? The parts about VR were mostly jokes about it being "so real", a Matrix reference, and a storyline that started to get very Inception'y. And the customer service parts were just general commentary on customer service...not anything that actually related to Oculus. It was really funny...but I didn't see it as making fun of the Rift.

I thought the Freemium episode from last week was pretty great too. The douchey excuses people make for their addictions ("It's called a tasting, and it's classy."), Please Drink Responsibly, a hilarious Canadian Devil character ("Ha ha ha ha...I stab you." lol), and the scam of microtransactions that felt like it could have been directly talking about Ultimate Team, haha.

See what you've done... uh...goat simulator? Or maybe drugs. Yeah, drugs. See what you've done, drugs?

It's just kind of funny that it's called "Grass Simulator", but it appears to be a shitty FPS game, lol. At least Goat Simulator made sense being a Tony Hawk-like goat game.

Also, I had a realization with HUT last night. I spent some time just analyzing the marketplace and came to the conclusion that it is entirely possible to have a 99 OVR team. There are enough players (even cheap ones) with 5 or more training slots that you can simply throw a couple +5 ALL or even just +9 individual stat boosts on them and they become ridiculously overpowered.

For example, I bought Robin Lehner for like 750 coins. He has 8 training slots and is an 84 OVR. I used 6 slots and he's now a 99. I feel like this is the real reason you see the same players over and over again. First, I thought it was just because they were cheap and fairly common. But guys like Barrie, Eberle, Skinner, Landeskog, etc. can all be maxed out relatively easily. Even a guy like Evander Kane can be turned into an absolute monster (87 OVR and 5 slots). Most of those +9 boosts can be bought for 200 coins or less too. The biggest expense is the duration cards. But I was able to get a couple 15 game duration cards for 2800 coins yesterday.

It then just becomes a question of sustaining an entire team this way. You'd be spending about 4000 coins on each player every 16 games. To me, it seems feasible if you're signing in every day and getting the daily bonus in addition to playing a game or two. So, yeah...when you're seeing teams with these players, and they're shooting 50% and take the puck away with ease, you're probably playing a 99 team.

Kind of makes me wish EA would take the training boosts out entirely. I'm all for getting better players, buying contract cards, injury cards, etc. But the training gets pretty stupid when it can be manipulated like that. Just give everybody a 99 team and be done with it.

Got rid of my 14 Thursday, No more last Gen for me. I'll see you guys in the 15 thread eventually.
NHL was the only game you had left on 360 right? I get it. Keeping it just for that one game is about as pointless as owning an XB1 just for NHL 15. Has EA said anything else about improving OTP? Or if they're actually going to add lobbies?

You want a reminder at how crappy EA is? I bought one of the 12-player, all rare packs with money today, just for the helluva it. Got no player rated above an 85, and got two free agent players in that pack. Real rare stuff right there. Only bonus was getting a goalie, whose name slips my mind, that has 8 training slots and started out 84 overall, so I was able to boost him to 96 or 97. Still though. Whole lotta crap for the price.

Yeah, that's awful. 85 players can easily be had for 700-800 coins (ie. play one game, lol). Is the goalie Robin Lehner? Because that's who I bought for cheap and did the same thing. I'm about halfway through my team reconstruction right now. I've acquired most of my new players (all have 5+ training slots), and I'm grabbing 15 game duration cards when I can. It's tough getting those for under 3,000 but it is possible.

I also noticed that Ryan Ellis...my regular old 83 OVR Ryan Ellis of the Preds that I've had since almost the very beginning has 10 training slots (why??? Even Seth Jones...a much higher regarded young defensemen only has 5). Sooo...yeah, he's in my lineup again and can be boosted to a 97 just by doubling up on cheap +7 boosts.

And I was able to grab Nathan MacKinnon earlier for 1800 coins...which seemed like a steal. 86 OVR with 9 training slots. I will have my superhero dickbag team, EA. I will.

Yeah, Lehner that's who it was. And I noticed that earlier about Ellis, I was shocked. I already started boosting him, have to transfer some of my cards from my Inbox.

I'll get you the name of my bronze LW'er who I got to a mid-90's with like 97 skating, 98 shooting and 97 hands. I'd imagine as a bronze he wouldn't be too expensive and he's got 14 slots.

Yeah, that's the tricky part with boosting guys like this is figuring out who actually yields the best return. Mid 80s guys with 5 or more slots seemed like a pretty simple way to do it. Then you have the really high rated guys who might have 2-3 slots...meaning you basically have to use the "+5 ALL" cards (which are pretty damn expensive).

A bronze guy with 14 slots would be interesting. Are you talking about that Make A Wish card with the kid on it? I think his name is Rio Yassin. I guess you could do 12 +7 cards across 4 categories and then 2 +9s on the final attribute...effectively raising his OVR by like 20 points. Not sure if that would be cheaper than a guy who might have less slots but need less boosting though. It would be interesting to look at.

Seems kind of crazy that you don't even need top players to have a top team though.

Nah, it's M. Klimchuk of Regina in the WHL. I used a mix of gold and bronze training cards and got his skating to 99, his shooting to 95, his hands to 94, his checking to 81 and his defense to 96 for a 93-overall winger. He's pretty cheap too, the highest priced BIN auction is 900 and I think there are 5 or 6 of him up.

Ugh...the physics in this game. So bad. Even on next gen they somehow managed to tweak it right back to the way it was. The things that were sort of different aren't any more. I don't even know if they do tuner sets with this game...or if the patch changed anything. But all the "usual suspects" are roaring back.

Hitting bubble is back. Whiffing on hits like the player is a matador happens all the time. And if they're holding the puck out to the side, you bounce off just like before. Even when you do knock them down, a lot of times, they fall on the puck and sometimes even get back up before you can get it anyway.

Penalties are still called nowhere near enough. They've improved, but it's still probably about half as many as there should be when you consider how people play. Obviously nobody wants to be in the box the whole game...but EA never seems to realize that calling strict penalties SHOULD force people to change how they play. The aggression people play with now is unreal. It's totally an attitude of "they probably won't call it, so fuck it"

Collision detection and puck control...I'm going to say this is actually worse than ever before. For the danglers and ballerinas, it's a God damn fantasy world. Somebody can have the puck in the middle of 2-3 defenders at the blue line, and then just spin out of it and basically brute force the puck through with them. Next gen power...pucks going through sticks, skates, legs, etc. Broken, broken, broken.

I made it up to Division 3 in HUT and that's about all I can tolerate. I wish I could relegate myself back down without having to actually play or quit out of games. And considering quitting gives you no coins, but still uses contracts and causes fatigue, that's not an option. I might just load up a game and then go watch something on Netflix, lol. At least that way I'll still get coins from it.

Did some digging. Apparently, these are the best team strategy settings for HUT. Judging by this guy's record, I don't doubt it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGKCYIq1sDo&list=UUjHOnzvVVoxJ04jzhKMd8xw

It basically favors good defense and stopping shit in the slot above anything else. I tried them for one game and won a 1-0 shutout. Obviously, it needs more testing, but my defense was all over this dude. He kept trying for crossers and going through the slot, but my guys were just taking the puck away and blocking everything.

The box score at the end looked pretty stupid. He had almost 11 minutes time on attack (to my 3:30), but I outshot him 13-7. I don't love losing the TOA battle that badly, but that is pretty indicative of how most of these guys play...just circling and circling looking for an opening, so maybe it's not a bad set up.

Another page on general HUT strategy and building your team (some of it is obvious).

Game 2: 3-0 shutout win. He had 7:30 TOA to my 4:30, and I outshot him 19-17. We really need to try "protect net" and "conservative" in EASHL, as apparently, it means "oh, you want me to not let them score?" AI is playing so much better. Granted, the last two teams haven't had Tavares, Hossa, Kesler, etc. either. But the way the AI is approaching defense is noticeably different.

EA doing something right? Blasphemy.

Looks like Goat Simulator is going to have a free Dlc.

That makes it an MMO.

With 5 classes.

One of which is named "Microwave"
(see screens shots on the link)

And there will be mermaids.

Drugs. Not even once.
Ironically, in my 3rd game using those settings, the guy had superstar players (Tavares, Patrick Kane, Hossa, etc) and my guys had a harder time taking the puck away. They'd knock it loose and his guys would just grab it right back (though I really hope once I get everybody boosted, it'll balance back out).

He scored 2 quick douche goals in the first by dangling around and taking that short side wrister. I paused the game and sent him a message challenging him to prove his skill by cycling the puck and beating me with real hockey. He actually did start playing right, and my guys were intercepting passes left and right. I ended up coming back and won 3-2 in a shootout, haha.

And...Goat Simulator MMO...words cannot express. SO HAPPY! We finally have a replacement for 7 Days To Die, haha.

Ugh...superstar teams tonight. I'm not getting as livid as before though because at least my guys are aware that they're in hockey game now and they definitely battle. It's just hard to match up with a team full of Duchenes and Keslers and whatnot. Time will tell if I can get ahead of the curve on boosting players. I've got 6 players 94 or above right now...but the rest of my lines are low 80s, so that doesn't help.

Ultimately, I think the guys who just want to abuse exploits will abuse exploits. But I guess I at least feel like I have a fighting chance now, haha. When I posed the question to two guys of if they know that pucks don't stay glued to your stick like that and that it's kind of cheesy, I got responses of "Yeah, I know but that's how you win." and "Yeah, but it works obvi because I went 7-0 in div 4". I almost have to respect the honesty, lol.

My favorite was when I said "Yeah, but some of us want to play a sim hockey game." The guy responded. "Yeah, I just like the W". Classic.

I still put blame back on EA. If you leave in easy goals like that, there's no incentive for the "play for the W" people to not take advantage of it. One could argue that it's dumb to not consistently go for it, but the counter argument is that it just dulls the game. Either way, it falls back to the game not allowing for a wider range of scoring options.

Apparently the Goat Sim Dlc is titled "Goat MMO Simulator", so people are taking it to mean it simulates an MMO, and is not actually multi-player. We'll see which it is when it comes out.

Yeah, there's still that very familiar feeling in NHL where goalies save stuff they should have no business saving, so therefore...might as well go for the cheap shit that the AI still can't defend properly. I guess it's just a minority opinion to prefer a game based around defense where the winner is determined by who screws up first. And trying to give different looks to make your opponent think you're doing something and then doing something different.

But of course, that would make for an intelligent game, which we know just has no place on XBL. People want offense and fast break NBA Jam style play.

As for Goat MMO Simulator, yeah, I noticed that afterward too. On the store page, it lists it as "local co-op"...which I think is all the original game had. And that was same screen. So, yeah...it's a cool add on, and it's a good thing it's free. But it's not really all it appears to be. Maybe they'll release a multiplayer sequel when they can actually make money off of it.

Bundlestars has a new sim bundle up too. Not quite as exciting as the last couple though.

Oh, GTA V. Can't wait to read the heartwarming holiday tales of dimwitted parents buying their 12 year old an M rated game and then being outraged because it has stuff like this in it.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Somebody cue Bing Crosby...on second thought, maybe Bill Cosby would be better for this one, lol

Dear god that mouth
lmao...I know. That's probably like 90% of the comments I've seen. As realistic as movement and textures have gotten in games, Rockstar still can't animate a human mouth for shit, haha.

It's kind of sad considering what they accomplished with the faces in LA Noire. But I read an article a couple weeks ago talking about how that was just way too damn expensive to do. But yeah, this...this is drastically worse.

I just read that Peter Laviolette had the Preds play a "mini" game of hockey today in practice by moving both nets into the same zone and putting them along the half boards. The goalies were losing their minds trying to keep up with everything, haha.

Then, I guess at the end of practice, Mike Ribeiro, Roman Josi, and Shea Weber stayed on the ice to work on shooting one timers at Pekka Rinne. Of course, Weber being Weber, fired off a ridiculous shot that hit Rinne right in the mask and bent the damn cage. That shot of his is getting ridiculous. It basically destroys anything in its path.

Weber is sick... He is hands down one of my favorite non Wings or Bruins players. Just as long as he's not playing the Wings. If I had to start a team, he would be one of the first players I'd want on it.

On a HUT note, I switched to that strategy you posted the video of and have had a lot of success. Finally won the league title which is nice considering that is the one HUT achievement that eluded me in 14. I'm also finally getting goals from my D-Men. Usually getting 1 a game or so from either Chara, Karlsson, or Doughty. I think the main differences have been the forwards neutral zone forecheck along the boards and the breakout which creates a quick zig-zag like passing pattern.
