Yeah, that's the tricky part with boosting guys like this is figuring out who actually yields the best return. Mid 80s guys with 5 or more slots seemed like a pretty simple way to do it. Then you have the really high rated guys who might have 2-3 slots...meaning you basically have to use the "+5 ALL" cards (which are pretty damn expensive).

A bronze guy with 14 slots would be interesting. Are you talking about that Make A Wish card with the kid on it? I think his name is Rio Yassin. I guess you could do 12 +7 cards across 4 categories and then 2 +9s on the final attribute...effectively raising his OVR by like 20 points. Not sure if that would be cheaper than a guy who might have less slots but need less boosting though. It would be interesting to look at.

Seems kind of crazy that you don't even need top players to have a top team though.

Bengals vs Titans going down in about 45 minutes. I would like to stream it...but we were never able to not desync and the game had to be simmed when we were scheduled to play earlier this season. This is basically going to be "the big reveal" for if that patch and whatever other server side work they've done ever fixed anything at all. Hold your breath.

Weber is sick... He is hands down one of my favorite non Wings or Bruins players. Just as long as he's not playing the Wings. If I had to start a team, he would be one of the first players I'd want on it.

On a HUT note, I switched to that strategy you posted the video of and have had a lot of success. Finally won the league title which is nice considering that is the one HUT achievement that eluded me in 14. I'm also finally getting goals from my D-Men. Usually getting 1 a game or so from either Chara, Karlsson, or Doughty. I think the main differences have been the forwards neutral zone forecheck along the boards and the breakout which creates a quick zig-zag like passing pattern.
Yeah, Weber is a monster. It's just crazy how within the past year his shot is literally breaking things, lol. He had one go through the net that had to be reviewed to confirm it went in. He had one that went through the boards behind the net. And now this one that broke Rinne's mask. It's turning into kind of a terrifying reputation, lol.

And yeah, those strategy settings are probably as good as the AI can do. I've seen them still get fooled (and it was my 99 OVR Nathan MacKinnon with 99 defense) and get crossed up. And I still don't think they stick check or body people like they should. But they do seem more aware...and they're usually around to at least pester and apply pressure, which can force mistakes.

I still can't stand the dangling that goes on in this game though. People rack up so much time on attack from circling over and over again. Even when you try to double team and pressure yourself, the AI doesn't really help enough or cut off angles to stop them from getting away, or passing to the next guy to do this with.

I've also found that people with 75,000+ coin players seem to knock down passes way more than my guys ever do (even when boosted). So, there's still a lot of imbalance in the game...but at least with those settings you don't feel like you only have one guy on the ice.

I had this crazy idea last night for a game. A serial killer simulator. Like full on Silence of the Lambs shit where you kidnap people, keep them locked up, do whatever you want...and all the while, the AI has police and FBI investigating. Almost like The Sims and LA Noire combined. They would notice "Hey, John didn't show up for work today. Better call his home." And they would look for clues and try to hunt you down.

Obviously, the game would need to be foreign made and on PC because people would flip the fuck out about anything like that here, lol. I looked around and this is the closest thing I found. It's just shitty 2D sprites, but if you look at the stuff you can do, you start to realize that this is a place that games still haven't gone too yet, haha. Damn...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaPBZn27rdw

Ughhh...as if anyone would need to wonder why I'd want to play a serial killer simulator, lol.

Just played a HUT game where I went up on the guy 2-0 thanks to his overaggressive defense. As soon as the replay starts after the 2nd goal, the game stutters and I see "waiting for player..." Naturally, I think he rage quit. I come out of the game, and no...I was given a 3-0 disconnect loss. I checked my PC immediately and my connection was perfect, and I never dropped from EA servers...

No coins, contract/duration cards used, and goalie fatigued. fucking excellent.

Seriously, in a mode where lots of people are spending real money, they need to crack down on this shit more. This is basically stealing just as much as illegally downloading an mp3 or whatever. People are paying real money for digital resources, and other people can cheat and use up those resources. It's stealing.

Just give me my game where I can lock these people in a room and throw acid on them. Is that too much to ask?

Buy NHL 16, get Serial Killer Simulator 16 free, courtesy of EA Sports.

I don't think anyone would make it though. There was  a game announced not too long ago...and I think canceled shortly after because  of the controversy it generated, that revolved going around a mindless killing spree, just for the sake of killing. People really jumped against it, and it was never heard of since.

Yeah, that seems crazy. There are already a ton of games with mindless killing. GTA, Killing Floor, and even Payday. I guess it's too bad the M rating isn't taken more seriously, and the only thing higher than it is AO...which stores won't carry and usually translates to "porn".

For all the crap Madden gets, their Ultimate Team provides more bang for its buck.
If you're talking in terms of being given free players and having more things to actually do (solo challenges), I'd agree. But I took a look at it again the last time NHL pissed me off, and players/packs are still just so expensive. It felt like a 7:1 ratio in terms of how many games you have to play to buy anything.

In NHL, the packs are horrible, but you can buy some 87-89 OVR players by only playing two games. Or if you're boosting guys, you can boost a guy to a 99 with four games worth of coins. And you need more players on a football team too. I just felt like I was too far behind to be able to do anything in MUT at this point. I missed several of the free players, and I've still got guys rated in the 60s as starters. And it doesn't help that I've been really bored playing the CPU.

NHL's Ultimate Team is very barebones though. I think the only reason I've gotten that "crack twitch" for it is because I've been working toward a goal of boosting every player on my team. I've got 7 guys 95 or higher right now. But it's tough to make progress (without spending real money, obviously) when players get hurt, contracts run out, etc.

It's dumb, but probably the easiest way to make progress would be to stop actually playing games, and just sign in every day for about a month to get the daily coin reward. I'm already at the max number, so 1,250 coins per day times 30 days...37,500 coins...or enough to max out 9 more players, lol. If I did that and just used the auction house to flip cards, I probably could get my whole team up to 99 relatively quickly. But I still enjoy playing the game for some reason.

So, like Manhunt?
Ha, yeah. That's the troll response I kept seeing online. I don't know. Manhunt was kind of just spectacle for the sake of spectacle. I'm talking about a legitimate fantasy "if I were crazy and had no soul" life simulation, haha. Like I said, like The Sims...but with actual criminal investigation.

An open world (or at least relatively) game where you can find somebody wandering a dark alley and throw them into the trunk of your car. Or knock on somebody's door posing as a "sales person" and then barge into their home and take them captive. But with each NPC having routines that if they're not followed get noticed and investigated.

Like I said, it would basically have to be an indie PC game though because of how blackballed it would get. I bet it would sell like crazy though. The type of game you play but you don't tell anybody you play, lol.

All I'm saying is that the General Public does what it wants. And its not always logical.

Also, I got this whole week off if you want to play FC3

"Keep shooting me until it drains me dry!"

Yeah, I should be able to play tomorrow night...possibly Wednesday night as well. So, we can try out the co-op and see what it's like.

New HUT Revelation: In addition to the settings I posted, lock onto your favorite position. The AI will then play out of their minds like when you're playing against them offline. They have great reaction time. They shoot when they have an open shot (also makes the cycle/shoot slider actually relevant). They set up plays. They see potential breakouts. And they move well without the puck. Basically none of those things happen when you're not locked on.

I've seen some people on the EA forums calling locking on "cheap". But you know what, fuck them. It's also cheap dangling around taking advantage of terrible AI and going for the same shot over and over. This is really the only way you can play real hockey. And it's a nightmare for the idiots who only know how to dangle, call the puck out, and cherry pick because the AI will actually move the puck before they get raped, leaving you with tons of scoring chances.

So, yeah...I've been locking onto center...playing how i know to play. And watching the AI actually contribute. It's kind of nice.

Oh, also...in case anybody hasn't figured it out, it's basically a miracle if you can draw a tripping penalty without holding the protect the puck button. I don't know if it was ever this bad in past games, but that's basically a "counter" to poke spamming this year. It doesn't factor in positioning, frequency, or any other physics principles that might relate to tripping a player. But yeah...if you want to draw penalties, hold A and glide around like a douche, lol.

First two games locked at center: 5-1 win, 5-2 win, lol. I'll admit, the AI probably is a bit sharper than they should be. But it's awesome seeing them play like a real damn team...and only needing to worry about one position on the ice. They get rid of the puck super quick though...which just destroys people when they get too aggressive.

The second game was against a guy who had "Dangler" in both his gamertag and his team name. He had Datsyuk, Lucic, Neal, Oshie, Vanek, Skinner, Seabrook, Kronwall, and Letang. He had like 8 minutes TOA, but only 13 shots and 55% passing. And he got burned on a couple plays where he either got bored with defense and left the zone early or assumed he was going to get a puck rape and left the zone early. The AI wasn't having any of it, lol.

The key is you actually have to be good at playing a position lol. I've seen a few people try and the usually quit by the end of the first period.

As for the tripping, that's like the insta-call way for douchebags to get a power play.

You can pretty much sum up 90% of opponent's possessions with this.
1) Have puck? No. RB and A until you do.
2) Once you have the puck rush full speed to zone.
3) Look for cross-crease. Try for it if you want.
4) Protect puck and move towards center of zone. Either get tripping or fire short side wrister.

lol...100% this. That is exactly what 99% of people do. But yeah, so far I really like playing locked on. Maybe it's just so many years playing EASHL with the CAG team...but I play center a bit like a free safety. So, I can float and apply pressure or double team where needed. Sometimes, even if I don't make a play, if I can can direct my opponent to a bad position, he'll screw up.

I definitely think you need to actually understand how the sport is played though. It's not for the OTP kiddies who pick defenseman and then lead the charge into the zone. I haven't even been calling for the puck much. The AI moves well enough and gets rid of the puck quick enough that I really don't need to. They'll screw up here and there or won't see me when I'm open.

But the difference it makes in how off the puck players play is insane. They don't just stand in one place in the offensive zone. It makes no sense why they don't play this way when you're not locked on. I also like it because of how EA screwed up switching to another player this year.

I had a play the other night where a guy is just burning down the boards with the puck. I pressed RT to switch (trying to get my RD to be in position to cut him off). First the game gives me a winger...then it gives me my LD...then finally, it gives me the RD, by which point he's past me. And because of having to switch in and out of the other players, they're basically standing flatfooted doing nothing. So, the guy scores an easy goal.

So far, I'm 3-0-1 locked at center. Even if I don't continue winning this easily, the game is far more enjoyable for me now. Instead of having to adapt to their stick spamming, puck magnet douchery...I'm making them adapt to real hockey.

Wow...Valve just blew up the international Steam reseller market...

http://www.pcgamer.com/valve-changes-rules-around-steam-gift-trading/

They say it's to "reduce chargebacks", but I can't imagine that happens all that often. I guess at the very least, they kill two birds with one stone. Disappointed, but I can respect them for going this route. It's better than the crap Microsoft pulled last year of just banning people without warning. This was a clear loophole in their system and they basically closed it.

I mean, I guess resellers could sell items 30 days behind...that just seems like a lot of work. I know most of the time when I dealt with my guy, I'd send the money, he'd buy the game then, and he'd gift it to me. At least I "got while the gettin was good", I guess, lol. I need to cut back on my impulse buys anyway.

The article also raises the point I've raised of why they could never punish anybody for doing this...you can re-gift a game. So, I could buy a game from an international reseller, and then send it to Alan or something, and Alan would have a "dirty" copy of the game without having any part in it. Like I said, huge loophole that was easy to take advantage of. Good for Valve for being smart about it.

EDIT - Actually, wait...maybe not. The article says direct gifting is unchanged. I think that means if you choose to gift it at the time of purchase that's still fine. But once it goes to your inventory you can't trade it for 30 days. So, I guess the way I usually do it is fine. But resellers who buy stuff just to have copies in their inventory won't really be able to do that anymore.

It makes sense what Valve is doing. Definitely inconvenient for some, but I guess its a "pick your poison" kinda thing.
Yeah, it's confusing. Looking at the comments, people are saying this ONLY affects trading and not gifting. If that's true, I don't understand how it does anything to prevent scamming. Is the re-trading part the real problem? Otherwise, wouldn't they just switch to gifting? I don't get it...lol.

Just made a team of Tavares, Kesler, Parise, Lucic, St. Louis, Sharp, Seguin, Nash, Oshie, etc. quit after I went up 4-0 early in the 2nd. Center lock = awesome, lol.

EDIT - Now a team of Kopitar, Kesler, Neal, Pacioretty, Hall, Gaborik, St. Louis...with "Dangler" in his team name. And man, this dude was douching hard. Every time into the zone...exactly MVP's "formula". Dangle, puck protect, crosser or 45 degree cut and shortside wrister.

And of course his goalie stood on his damn head. I had so many good scoring chances and had to just keep wearing on him. I outshot him 27-11...and finally won 3-2, with a powerplay goal late in the 3rd. Feels good seeing this strategy work against a legit douche asshole that I could tell knew how to score the BS goals.

So, after being relegated all the way back down to Division 5, I tore through the division going 6-0-1 locked at center. My first game in Division 4 was against a guy who had a freaking Ovechkin. His team was fairly typical otherwise (can't imagine the team he could build if he'd sell Ovechkin though). I beat him 2-1.

7-0-1 locked at center. Feels like I'm playing a brand new game, haha. :)

Pretty good stuff on day one of the Steam sale. These are my highlights.

Don't Starve - $14.99 $3.74

The Long Dark - $19.99 $9.99

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter - $19.99 $11.99

I might be in for Don't Starve now, since this matches the cheapest it's ever been.

Long Dark I have. It's pretty cool. Definitely a different type of survival game. Blizzards are no joke.

Ethan Carter looks awesome...but I was hoping for a bigger discount.

The Evil Within is also on sale for $20. I wasn't really blown away by that one though, as it looked very "samey" as far as third person horror goes.

Boo, no flash deals.

Temped by Watchdogs (Worth 30?), Long Dark, and Evil Within. I'll probably pick up Long Dark regardless, and Im downloading the demo for EW to see if there's any jank with that game on my setup. Watchdogs...I still think I can wait on it.

All the Payday DLC is on sale too, I'll probably check again when it's a "daily" to see. Most of it is pretty cheap as it is.

Yeah. Long Dark is really challenging. Resources are really scarce and sometimes there will be just complete whiteouts where you can't even go outside. I've died a lot. The game is very well made though. The production value is a lot higher than most Early Access games.

Also, I noticed this while looking at Don't Starve...

Gome home, Steam. You're drunk.

Yeah, looks like reports were wrong about that price. it even has a "Save $20" banner on the main Xbox One page for the game. Just as well, as I was still on the fence for even getting it at $30.

This has been an odd BF for me this year anyway because between getting the collector's edition of WWE 2K15 and upgrading my PC, I've spent a lot already. So, I've kind of been trying to avoid the game and movie deals threads, haha. It's almost nice not being obsessed with "the hunt" this year.

It was actually showin up as 30 on the site. Just that it wasnt available until the 27th.

Oh, really? Wow...so they're just super inept then. Yeah, right now, I'm looking at the Xbox One games page...and it shows 34 games and I'm not seeing FH2 at all. I do see two different listings for FM5 though....one for $30 and one for $50.

EDIT - See...this is why i need to not look at deals. Fantasia for $30 with a $10 Xbox credit is very tempting.

Also, Alan...not sure if you've seen this yet, but that NoLimits2 roller coaster game now has DK2 support, and apparently it's amazing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31WW3wzmZTk

Obviously, the game needs to be way cheaper though.

Oof, 30 is a bit steep for a roller coaster sim. Looks cool though
Yeah, I wouldn't pay that much. Apparently, it does have a crap ton of different coasters though. That Game Hard 4.0 guy on Youtube has a video of it up already, and I was impressed with the design and variety of roller coasters. Not sure what to expect since the format of this Steam sale is different than usual. But it is 20% off right now. So maybe it'll be one of the daily sales for 50% off or better. 50% would bring it down to $20...then international reseller would probably bring it down to $10-12, lol. Getting better.

Has anybody else been running into this awesome "play" in NHL 15 where the person will just take a shot straight at the goalie and then charge into him making him lose the puck...where it either trickles into the net, or they put home their own rebound? I've seen 3 different guys do this (successfully) the past two nights. A guy just did it to me in a 0-0 game late in the 3rd. Freaking bullshit, man.

Nate, you got the Hulkamania Edition of WWE 2K15? Never would have expected that. Did you see my spoiler tagged image in response to your post from earlier?

Wow, havent run into that, but then again I'm only in Div 9 so far.

I haven't had it happen recently, but have had it happen before. Last night I was just furious with the way the game was playing. Every game my team was just slow and sluggish, and I was getting paired with King Spam and Wrist.

Yeah, Hulk Hogan was the reason I started watching wrestling as a kid...and in a lot of ways, I'd rather see Hogan (and Flair, and a lot of the other "old guard") wrestle until he's 100 than see a lot of the new guys. Those were the glory days.

I was also hoping with the CE selling out everywhere that it would become hard to find and I could sell a second copy to offset the crazy cost. It seems like both Amazon and Gamestop have them in stock though, so I'm not sure how my odds are of making that happen.

Still going to make a run at it though and see if I can make my listing more enticing than the others. I haven't even opened the game yet because of my apprehension with telling my wife "yeah, I paid $100 for this...", lol. Clearly, you can see I like to live dangerously.

Seriously, it reminded me of NHL 13. I only kept that game for a couple months, but I remember people doing that in that game because EA claimed "the goalies aren't live anymore". Yet, you could still run into them and knock the puck loose...without getting a goalie interference call a lot of times.

I even see the AI do it a bit in this game. They just crash so hard for the rebound, they'll knock the goalie way out of the crease sometimes. I don't know how EA doesn't realize that if you're going to allow those plays to be possible, penalties have to be super strict. You're basically inviting cheating otherwise.

The game is actually really good, but the collector's edition was not exactly what I expected. The box was packed very well, but had some sort of damage in the printing/manufacturing process and shows lots of discoloration on the bottom. And the main thing is that the card with the autograph is very thin and flimsy, and it's just loose inside that giant box, free to move around.
