Official Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver thread of 10 year nostalgia rush

I know for sure I'm pre-ordering Soul Silver. I'm incredibly excited to get one of the new Pedometers that are going to be bundled with the games, since I'm willing to bet that we won't see those come stateside.

The pre-order figures sound nice, and I would absolutely love to have one, but from past experiences, import sites don't carry the bonus figures you get when you pre-order. So, I can only hope that the pre-order figures will carry over when the games come stateside like the Giratina figure did with Platinum. At this point, I'm contemplating pre-ordering both just to get two pedometers. I really like the box art and oversize boxes the games themselves come in.

Also, I'm a little antsy since no imports sites have the games for pre-order yet since the games come out in a mere two months.

We've had Pokemon Pikachu before. Addtionally, they're bundled with EVERY game. Why wouldn't they?

Because NOA probably thinks it's "too japanese" for western audiences.

Which seems to be the popular answer from them as to why we don't get some of their first party stuff from Japan.

Please, please, please have the beautiful box that Japan is getting, the pedometer, and the little figures. PLEASE NINTENDO. Also, don't ruin the music like you did with Fire Red and Leaf Green.

I want the pedometers too. If they do include them in a US release, I hope Nintendo doesn't raise the price of the game. This is Pokemon. Nintendo could get away with it.

Now that I think about it, don't most of Nintendo's Wii games come bundled with a piece of plastic anyway? I'd actually say chances are pretty good.
I wish we could revisit Sinnoh as an option... That would be truly epic, but this game is cool enough as it is.
Yeah, hey, let's throw off the level balance.

Why dont you ask a CAG in JPN to buy it for you.
Thats what Im thinking of doing.
Cag:dv8mad lives in JPN and he's pretty cool.

Pre-orders are available starting today on import sites, retailing for $59.90.

I put in a pre-order for Soul Silver.

I think the idea of the pedometer coming with it seems like a cool (albeit gimmicky) way to level up pokemon on the go. It's stupid as hell to design it like a Pokeball, imagine how embarassed someone would be when they are discovered wearing it.

They're coming to America (and Europe), Spring 2010.

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo of America Inc. revealed today that Pokémon™ HeartGold Version and Pokémon™ SoulSilver Version for the Nintendo DS™ and Nintendo DSi™ systems will be released in spring 2010 in the United States and Europe. These newest entries for the best-selling video game franchise were announced amid the biggest Pokémon video game event of the year and in front of the top Pokémon video game and trading card game players in the world at the 2009 Pokémon World Championships.

Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version return players to the scenic Johto region first introduced in the beloved original Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver games nearly a decade ago. The richly detailed adventure of Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver is now enhanced for the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi systems with updated graphics and sound, as well as new touch-screen features and a host of surprises. Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version bring dozens of Pokémon characters back into the limelight for a new Pokémon generation – and longtime fans – to catch, train and battle.

“Announcing these much-anticipated game launches at The Pokémon World Championships allows us to give the news directly to the legions of fans who represent the true heart and soul of Pokémon,” said J.C. Smith, The Pokémon Company International’s director of marketing, who made the announcement on stage to kick off the 2009 Pokémon World Championships. “We want to thank these loyal fans by revealing the details to them first.”

The launch of Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version follows the incredible launch of Pokémon Platinum Version, which has sold more than 5.66 million copies worldwide to date.

Pokémon is one of the top children’s franchises in history. The Pokémon video game series has sold more than 193 million units worldwide since its inception 13 years ago. Additionally, Pokémon is the No. 1 collectible trading card game of all time and has shown no sign of slowing down. It boasts 374 percent sales growth in the United States alone since 2005, and is sold in more than 30 countries across the globe. Other extensions of the property include 12 seasons of the animated television series, which in 2009 will be broadcast in as many as 153 countries in more than 25 languages. Pokémon films and DVDs continue to reach fans in amazing numbers, ranking at the top of the box office in Japan.

HeartGold and SoulSilver, lol, I like the names they come up with. But I sadly got tired of the same recycling of the old Pokemon gameplay methods years ago.

So would anyone like to justify buying this game? There's been NOTHING announced about improving the main gameplay. All we have so far is some retarded series of minigames. Where's the updated movesets for Pokemon? Where's the random online matches? You know, stuff that matters.

It's still a ways out, but at this point I think it's a given that those features will be in the game. I can't see them taking out features that were in D/P/Pt.

I don't have a very good memory of this game, so it looked all new to me. What's with the little Pokemon following you? It reminds me of Pikachu from Pokemon Yellow.

Remember Digivices?

Those things were the shit. If the pokeball thingy is anything like a digivice I'll be addicted instantly.

EDIT: I did it. I just ordered a $65 DS game. Butz It haz Podemeterz!
This. This'll likely be a day one for me too.
I'm not seeing anything in the press release about the pedometer--are we sure the US is getting it?
Seriously, does anyone want to crack at my question?
God, so demanding. There is nothing new. I don't care. Are they milking the series for all it's worth? Yes. But I realize at this point, I'm not going to be playing this series forever regardless in what direction they take. Actually, this may or may not be the last Pokemon game I buy. So I'm going to just enjoy SS for what it is when it comes out and not sweat what they'll do in the future.

Game companies churn out the same sequels all the time. It just doesn't bother me anymore.

Any advancements from the GBA games and before were acceptable due to the capabilities of the units but when you see Game Freak pulling off online play with a really shitty series of minigames that can ONLY be played online, something is terribly wrong.

Being a sucker for Pokemon up until Platinum was being a good kind of sucker. These next remakes are for fools unless some awesome shit like random online battles is announced.

You can only take imaginary creatures moving like cardboard cutouts only so far.

Nope, It could very easily be a Japan exclusive bundle in.

Which would make me sad.

Sl4in: is there a language setting on imported pokemon games, or is it Japanese only?

Fools, and people who never played the original. That said, I will probably only get this if it comes with the pedometer. And doesn't the Wii game have random online battles?

people who never played the original.

I may have started on Sapphire but unless you're a completely new player to the series, there's no interest for me to pick this game up if all it turns out to be is Platinum 2.0: New Region rofls.

And I shouldn't look to a different game on a different console to get random battles.

Ok. Thanks for letting us know.

I think it's clear that you aren't a fan of how HG/SS aren't adding anything new for you, Nohbdy. That being said, there's no use complaining about it here, since we all know how you feel about it. Insulting everyone for being eager to get it sure isn't helping things, either.

The games are 100% Japanese only, no language option.
Indeed... its clear that Pokemon is Nintendo's Madden or perhaps Final Fantasy.
Yes and no. Yes in the sense that there may very well always be Pokemon games. No in the regard that Game Freak isn't just churning these because it's easy, because it's far from that. For example, when Diamond & Pearl were in production, the team of ~50 people that worked on the game spent the entire 2 years of production doing so, putting everything they could into the DS games. What a lot of people don't realize, is that Game Freak only handles the Pokemon RPG's and not all of the other spinoffs that come out over time. And the Game Freak team isn't a large one to begin with, and things take time, so it's not just some random process where they just decide to make the product in 2 months and let the media hype it up for 10 months and then release the product half-finished, they take their time and deliver a full product on launch day.
Your opinion was also enlightening. Like a smooth laxative.
I like that.

Problem is, suppose we all suddenly abandon the series like you vehemently advocate. You know what'll happen? Nintendo's marketing machine will find 3 more kids to replace every one of us. Get over it. Of all the things to get self-righteous about, it's Pokemon?
looks awesome, I actually still have yet to play D/P/P, so I need to pick up one of those and get playing so I can be ready by G/S.
Apparently D/P are $20 used at GS this week, so there you go. There's a thread in the deals forum about it, and it's in the GS weekly ad.

Play-Asia is prepping my order and it should be shipping out in the next day or so. I should have the game early next week and will post impressions/pics of everything that comes in the box.

Woot, my copy just shipped out. Does anyone know about long how the cheapest shipping option takes? Also, I heard there is a semi-English patch for the game, is that true?
