Official Rock Band Thread (It's out, bitches)
so can anyone shed light on the difficulty issue?
I don't think any songs are being dumbed down compared to the way they would be in GH1 or 2. Perhaps the songs they chose are overall slightly easier on the guitar part, but they might make up for it with drum/vocal difficulty.

If you are comparing it to GH3, then it's more that GH3 is on steroids rather than Rock Band being dumbed down.

The songs look easy as fuck because they generally picked songs that would be easy as fuck.

I'll fully update the OP later. Oh, and am I the only one that thinks the DLC looks better than the actual tracklist?

what really made me wonder was this video

the guitar just goes from lead to rhythm for no reason, which makes me wonder why they would do that.

Possible/likely bonus song list, leaked at SA and pulled from Gaf:

The Acro-Brats - Day Late, Dollar Short
Anarchy Club - Blood Doll
Bang Camaro - Pleasure (Pleasure)
Crooked X - Nightmare
Death of the Cool - Can't Let Go
Flyleaf - I'm So Sick
Freezepop - Brainpower
Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Dealer Incentives - I Get By
The Konks - 29 Fingers
The Mother Hips - Time We Had
Timmy and Lords of the Underworld - Timmy and Lords of the Underworld
Tribe - Outside
Vagiant - Seven

That makes 13, which is what they've been saying.

This is the correct list. If you check the ScoreHero thread I posted, someone has a scan from OXM with the full setlist, and those tracks are on it.

Nope. Master tracks of Queen Bitch, Bang a Gong, and Juke Box Hero? Best Marketplace purchase ever.

Buzzcocks? Hmm. Not a bad choice, though I would have preferred "Orgasm Addict." Or, just say to hell with the Buzzcocks and sell us Stiff Little Fingers instead.

Uhhhh...it's in the OP.

Definitely excited about the Police and Black Sabbath packs. I'm not keeping my hopes up for that Metallica pack.

I am excited about that CCR track too.

OK, you might have noticed me complaining about preorder availability over in the EB/Gamestop poll... Any recommendations for the best place to preorder/just walk in and buy Rock Band on the 20th?

I'm guessing most places by now have stopped pre-orders because of the limited availability.

Luckily I pre-ordered my copy of Rock Band about 2 weeks ago. My friend who is a manager at my local EB read me an email a couple days ago they got concerning the availability of the game. It mentioned they would only be getting the number of units they pre-ordered to that day (not counting ones taken when I talked to him) and possibilty but not 100%, a max of two extra copies.

I would say your best bet (maybe) would be showing up to a place like Best Buy or maybe Target (who opens at 8am, 2 hours earlier than Best Buy) and seeing if you can get it then (Day 1).

This game is out? I didn't know that.

Either that or they're already talking about DLC for a game that isn't out yet. In which case I'm pretty fucking pissed.

game isn't out yet, although it has gone gold.

kinda lame that they have a bunch of extra tracks that are ready to download that they're making us pay for.

I went to Gamestop to reserve it for the PS3 and was told they can only take reserves for the 360. I had to trade in my games towards the 360 version so I could still get the extra 30%. Here is to hoping they get an extra PS3 version or someone doesn't pick up their reserve.

If they put them on the disc, they would have had to charge more for it. Song licenses aren't free and the staff that turns the masters into game tracks probably enjoys getting paid once in a while. Would you rather have them not start working on DLC until after the game comes out so we have to wait a month or two to be able to download anything new?

Besides, the fact that they were announced doesn't mean they are completed. This DLC is coming out over the first few months after release, not the first day.

Call me crazy but I'm happy they have that much DLC lined up already.

With all the promises of DLC for GHII on 360, all we got were SOME GH1 tracks and some really random other bands. So I'm happy that Harmonix seems to be really pushing the idea of having more songs to play/download.

Also as admanimal, the people who write these songs, the companies that own them and the guys at Harmonix do like to get paid. I would love having free songs to add to GH or Rock Band but the idea is just silly.

I could actually see getting behind a version that's entirely DLC, sort of like they were talking about with that one version of GT5. Maybe it wouldn't ship with any songs on the disc and they'd either knock down the price or they'd let you download 50 songs for free. That way you wouldn't get stuck with a bunch of songs you don't like, and you wouldn't be annoyed when they release new downloads a week after launch. Harmonix would just have to rework how you progress through the main game a bit.

That's actually not a bad idea. Although I have discovered a lot of good music that Guitar Hero forced me to listen to.

That's actually a fantastic idea. MY run down of songs for the main set list.:

Aerosmith - Train Kept a Rollin'
Black Sabbath - N.I.B.
Black Sabbath - Sweet Leaf
Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper
Bon Jovi-Wanted Dead or Alive
Boston - Foreplay/Long Time
Coheed and Cambria - Welcome Home
Creedence Clearwater Revivial - Fortunate Son
David Bowie - Moonage Dreak
David Bowie - Queen Bitch
David Bowie - Suffragette City
Deep Purple - Highway Star
Faith No More - Epic
Foreigner - Juke Box Hero
Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills
Kiss-Detroit Rock City
Molly Hatchet - Flirtin' With Disaster
Mountain - Mississippi Queen
New Pornographers - Electric Version
Nine Inch Nails-The Hand That Feeds
Nirvana - Something in the Way
Queens of the Stone Age - Go With the Flow
Queens of the Stone Age - Little Sister
Queens of the Stone Age - Sick Sick Sick
Radiohead - My Iron Lung
Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter
Rush-Tom Sawyer
Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock
The Buzzcocks - Ever Fallen in Love
The Clash - I Fought the Law
The Knack - My Sharona
The Outlaws - Green Grass and High Tides
The Pixies - Wave of Mutilation
The Police - Can't Stand Losing You
The Police - Next to You
The Police - Roxanne
The Who - The Song Is Over
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again
The Who- Getting' in Tune
T-Rex - Bang a Gong
Weezer - Buddy Holly
Weezer - Say It Ain't So

Yeah, I'd rather have 3 from The Police, The Who, QOTSA, and David Bowie than Jet, Ok Go, or any of those other shitty songs.

I know this pretty much falls into the "pointless" category, but I've been working on collecting all the Rock Band lyrics to one place. Might be useful to any aspiring vocalists to practice with. Assuming they're actually totally accurate.

Anyone else worried that the drums are gonna get too much attention? Online play is gonna be about
85.4 % drummers
14.5 % guitarists

Well, if you look at the guitar tracks for most of the songs, they won't challenge anyone who's decent at Guitar Hero, so after the first few days, everyone will pick up the drums.

I think there are still a lot of people who will appreciate the easier guitar. I'm decent at GH (beat the first 2 on expert...working on GH3), but to be honest I have more fun playing songs that are easy enough to be able to play and not have to focus so much on hitting a billion notes at a time (GH3, I'm looking at you) . I think it lets you get more of a feeling that you're playing the song and not just banging on buttons.

Plus if you are really good at guitar and you're playing in a band, you can really help out the score because multipliers are multiplicative...i.e. if the guitar player has a 4x, the drummer a 2x and the singer a 3x, the total multiplier for everyone's notes at that point is 24x.

So will I be missing out on the full experience if I just play with the GH3 controller? I know people who are getting the game but for PS2 and 360. Should I just skip this one or pick it up? The song listing looks pretty good, but I don't wanna buy the game if it feels half assed.

If you mean just buying the game without the bundle and playing on guitar then you're probably missing out. Although next year you can pick up some drums, etc.

If you mean playing with a GH3 controller compared to the Strat, it's not going to make a big difference.

I'm not sure about that part. I know Overdrive stacks, so if your guitarist activates it your drummer's notes are worth twice as much too. But I don't think the base multipliers stacked all around. Any idea where you read that?

Yeah I think I had it sort of wrong. Basically it sounds like each part has it's own multiplier and then if all instruments deploy overdrive at the same time you get even more of a multiplier than the normal double whatever your streak multiplier is.

So if the guitarist has a 4x multiplier and activates overdrive, he would go to 8x like usual, but then if everyone else deploys overdrive, his multiplier can go up to 32x.

Sluggo from 1up kind of explains the strategy in this thread:

Anyone know how heavy these bundles are going to be?

I mean....I want to know what to expect when the guy delivers it from Amazon....

The amazon product page says 6 pounds but that seems a little light.

Dunno if anyone saw this... real-life gear based on your fictional band. It's utterly pointless yet I know I'm gonna make at least a t-shirt for myself. :)

My band is gonna be called Godless Sodomites. If I can get an 360 and Live, who wants to join?

Think I'll stick with my Alas, Vitruvian Man! or my buddy's More At Eleven. :p
I'm surprised no ones has commented on this yet...Especially since all the ps3 ones people found were all demos.

I'm going to head out now and check mine on my way to work.
Two people have independently reported on the Rockband.com forums that they got the 360 bundle at a Walmart in Airmont, NY. Since Walmart only got PS3 demos, these must be the real thing- plus one guy posted pictures of the bass pedal.

And there's the guy's achievement list...

does anyone know how a second guitar can be used in the ps2 version? since the gh2 guitar doesnt work, rock band only comes with one guitar, and individual packages of instruments haven't been announced..
