Opera Browser on Dec. 22nd
I'm sorry, but this browser SUCKS!

If you scale out (default), it's a blurry unreadable mess.

And if you zoom in with 2 button, it's zoomed way the heck in.

I've been using browsers on my main tvs for years now. And it's always been clear as a bell (even on my old analog JVC set with components). This is a joke. If I set my HTPC to 640*480, Firefox renders the entire page correctly and it's clear as a bell. Why Opera felt the need to render the page at a much higher resolution (that Wii can't display) and then downscale to 640*480 is beyond retarded. Pages work at 640. Yes they need vertical scrolling more often, but if Firefox can make it so you don't need horizontal scrolling, so should Opera. My dream of a quit/lower energy home theater web browser for checking quick scores is dead. This browser SUCKS! ANd only a fanboy would defend this thing (or someone who's never seen 640*480 browsing be crystal clear (displaying the whole page.))
Goddamn, shut up. It is a BETA version. Also, it loads faster than any other console browser. Again, shut up.
Does youtube work? I'm going to put Opera on my Wii on Monday.
Youtube works and it is great watching youtube on a big TV! Quality was better than I expected.

I'm not posting this from my Wii! That makes me unique! :p

gonna download this when I get home and can get through to the shop with my connection.

woke up, saw my wii "breathing" downloaded the browser and was up and running

pretty nifty but i don't know just how much i'll be using it. I love that it's Opera based though.

For those of you who have downloaded the browser, I have a few questions for you.

How good is it for streaming stuff? On Youtube, do you have to let it buffer for a while(on my PC I have to let the red part get far enough along so the video won't catch it, if that makes any sense to you) or can you just hit play and off it goes? Does this depend on the type of internet connection you have? Also, can you stream music from something like myspace or listen to radio stations?

Is there any way to have a history, bookmarks, or favorites so you don't have to type in URLs all the time?

The browser sounds great, I'll probably use it as much or more than my PC so that I won't tie up the PC and I wouldn't be surprised if the Wii runs faster and smoother than my PoS.

When I try to watch a vid on youtube, it tells me Javascript isn't enabled, or my Flashplayer is out of date. Help please?NVM. Turning my Wii off/on fixed it somehow.

Youtube funstions just as it would on a PC. I use facebook, not myspace, so I wouldn't know the second part ;)
You can bookmark pages, yes. History, I don't think so. Closest is just forward and back buttons.
i try to update my wii for the opera browser but it wont do it
Are you going through the WiiStore? It's not a system update like the weather.

Ok, now I am curious, some vids work, some do not.
Just as a test, go to todays most viewed (Ok just click the videos tab), and the first should be a Donald Trump movie. The second should be a transformers movie (and yes, I know this may change). I can view the Trump movie, but not the Transformers movie. Same for anyone else?
Some youtube videos work, some don`t. Try Regina Spektor`s video "fidelity."
An elebits video on Youtube failed to work for me as well. I'm curious if any of the weather websites would be compatible with this and therefore we can get ACCURATE weather.

A quick question: has anyone tried a USB keyboard since the Opera browser went live? I'd assume USB keyboard functionality is coming, but I was curious if that functionality is live post-Opera download.

What I wish was diffrent/what I hate
I can see the large white banner at the bottom being a issue with burn in on some TVs. They should auto hide that.

KB support, please let me use my bluetooth KB!

If there is a address bar that you can easily navigate to and put in a new address I missed it and it needs to be added.

Opera is lovely with tabbed browsing/hell the PSP even has it so Wii should too.

We need way more managment options. I am wondering about cookie handling, clearing history, ect. I want some more options. Again atleast as much as the Wii.

Let us download to our SD card and let us do things with our downloads, like play them in browser.

The big one= Make it full screen!!!!!! I couldnt believe when I seen that it wasnt full screen.

What I like
Its free
Its early still, they can add way more come March
Its fast (faster than PSP and PS3)
Wiimote is not bad for typing

Who here already looked at a pair of online ta-tas just to enjoy the irony that such a thing was possible on a kiddie-friendly Nintendo system?

I tried like 20 diffrent videos and nothing works. I searched for the one you recomended and didn't find it. Maybe I spelled it wrong.

Knew this was coming and after taking forever to download the forecast channel, I was smart and downloaded this BEFORE work to avoid the server slam. I still had trouble, which finally motivated me to go into my wireless router settings and change the channel to 1 (it had defaulted to 6 when I set it up). That did wonders. I can't believe how fast the forecast channel and the shop load now. Zoom zoom zoom. I suppose my laptop and DS connection will see a benefit now as well.

Anyway, after fixing the router, it took less than 5 mins to download Opera. I only had time to play with it for five minutes, and like a tool I just went to Wii.com because it was the only site I could think of. Watched a couple videos and they look great. I think that will be this thing's killer app: Great way to watch YouTube and other videos on your TV with friends and family.

I really like how intuitive it is to use the + and - to zoom. Text entry is surprisingly easy, but my first preference would be for them to enable a bluetooth keyboard option. That alone would expand the browser's functionality immensely.

A while back some folks were talking about how it would be possible, even relatively easy, for the Wii to use a 720p or 1080i resolution in for the menus, even if it would be more difficult (but also not impossible) to use that resolution in games. I would love to see them add that down the road, if only to make browsing easier on the eyes.

Does anyone else think it's incredibly ironic the PSP, Wii, and PS3 all have web browsers...and the console by the big huge monopoly software company dosen't have one?

I think it's cool too. Awesome that it supports stuff like Youtube. Not something I'd use THAT often, but it would be handy to have others watch quick videos on the big screen, and for looking up stuff from IMDB while watching TV or things like that.

yea no wonder this morning i saw my wii glowing a blue light. But, I love the glowing blue light :D

So it's pretty cool, but definately still in beta. A lot of the flash games either don't work right, or crash midway through.

Also, how are you guys getting Youtube to work? I'm finding that embedded videos seemingly play fine, but using YouTube's search doesn't (gives a javascript error).

Its weird, because last night, right as the browser got released, YouTube was working perfectly fine. Now all I see are those darn javascript/flash errors and I can't watch anything unless it's embedded.

Maybe YouTube changed something? Don't know.

I'm having the same problem. Google Video still works though.
