PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

That's a pretty sweet way to announce the release date actually. I have the first one, but never got around to putting time into it.
Same here, except I played a little over an hour and didn't really like it much. Might go back eventually, but with my aforementioned backlog and constant stream of new games I most likely won't.

Had to get this game.

Bought the main game at bestbuy using gcu. Then headed to gamestop to see if they have any new amiibos to start up a conversation with the employee. Then i proceeded to ask about xenoverse. He opened up that his a big fan and has been playing it earlier. I told him i bought the game but not the season pass. Employee then mentioned that if i buy a season pass hell hooked me up with a preorder steelbook that they have extras off. Was planning on buying the pass anyway so it was win win. Hehe!

Ive been enjoying the game so far.

I can't find the ps3 thread, so I will ask here.

I've been playing AC Rogue on a 1080p tv, via hdmi, but the game only displays in 720p.

I checked my "monitor" settings and it says 1080p.

Is there a way to make it run at 1080p?

I want that steelbook.

im enjoying the game & steelbook too.

I'm about half way through The Order: 1886 and I'm actually really enjoying it. It can be slow at times but that is obviously intentional and I don't mind the pace.

In a way it reminds me of Wolfenstein (takes place in the past but with futuristic technology) and I like the references to actual historical people (i.e. Tesla, Edison, Jack the Ripper).

The game is beautiful and when they let you play (in a lot of gameplay you can't run or draw your weapon) it is actually really fun and well done.

I'm going to guess it'll take me 10-12 hours to complete but I always check every corner for items and secrets. Overall I'd say an easy 7/10 or a soft 8/10 based on my current play through.

Still surprised at how harsh the reviews were. I've played much worse games that I couldn't even get two hours into (Kane and Lynch, DNF, etc.) and this is leaps and bounds above those.

Spring Fever 2015 announce for PS Consoles!

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/02/26/spring-fever-2015-8-weeks-8-new-ps4-games-ps-plus-discounts/

I'm personally excited about Shovel Knight, but wish SuperTimeForce was on that list.

Also just picked up a 64Gb Vita Memory Card, got tired of managing games everytime a new game released. Now I shouldn't have to worry. Bring on the games!
Screw everyone that say indies don't count, that lineup for the next month or so is ridiculous! Hot Line Miami, Hell Divers, Axiom Verge, Shovel knight!!!

give Titan Souls a look. its basically a 2d Shadow of the Colossus with some Souls gameplay

also helldivers was the rumored ps+ game and that sale rules that out. if i had to guess, maybe olliolli 2: welcome to olliwood would be in the IGC for march
So stoked for Axiom Verge.
I played it at PSX last year and it moves to one of my most anticipated games of 2015.

Woah, when did this become a Sticky. Was having trouble finding it.

Anyways I've been thinking about setting my PS4 up vertically, I think it would save some room. I currently am using the Nyko charging Module, and it attaches to the ps4, so I wouldn't be able to continue using it, if I set it vertically. I've been searching and found this charger though.
http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-4-Vertical-Stand-cooler-controller-Charger-Unit/dp/B00J5S9Y32/ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3A3DZ03XONGGK

It's basically a vertical stand for the PS4, with dualshock 4 chargers built in and it also has a USB Hub. Was considering ordering one but wanted to ask if anyone here has used this one or something similar to it first. Any suggestions are as always welcome.

Everybody knows the only people that says indies games don't count as games are people who like to argue that X console is better than Y console because they are insecure about their purchase.

I.E. every gamer.

Like I said on GAF, indies don't have the same importance as AAA exclusives for obvious reasons. It's still nice to have more games to play.

Since it's been brought up AGAIN:

A regular PS4 owner/poster(bestkeeper14) specifically posted this in the XB1 thread:

and you guys want to create a double standard just for MS consoles for whatever reason.  I can't change your opinion on the subject, but please realize how silly it is.

EDIT: Hell I'll say Sony has less cross-gen exclusives if it really makes you feel that much better.

So do you PS Gold headset owners notice that the volume doesn't really go all that high?

It's fine when you're in a quiet place but when there's outside noise, I find myself struggling to listen to the game volume since the volume adjustment on the headset doesn't seem to go all that high for me.  I don't see a system setting to increase any volume output.  Can't they just provide some firmware update to enable something like this?  Seems odd to me.

I feel like the volume gets really high, I never use it on max volume because it's simply too loud for be to comfortably listen to. Is it possible you messed with the Sound/Chat button and need to move it back up to more sound focus.

I haven't noticed any issues with mine either... I just didn't say anything at first because I hadn't used them in months.

Thanks, KK that helped! I forgot that the chat button was merged with the sound one.

Last week was too busy for me so I didn't have time to beat the Order before trading it in. The game is probably a 6.5 out of 10 for me thus far. The graphics are absolutely stunning. For me, it looks like the best game from a visual standpoint to date. The QTE's were too much and I got annoyed with them within the first couple of hours. The story seems interesting but having not finished it yet it's still hard to rate. I think this game is a little better than the critics have graded it but I wouldn't put it on the list of must play games either.

I guess one big reason I probably like The Order more than most is because I've never minded QTE's.

Still, the game doesn't go too crazy with them.

I hear you.  As a GoW fan, I'm not totally against QTE's.  I think in the right context it can be helpful.  I like how GoW implements them as a finishing moves.  As for the Order, I just don't see the value in placing it in something as simple as opening a door to enter a room.  It just didn't feel natural to me and seemed forced.  I think QTE's in the middle of a fight makes sense but when it comes to environments I don't think it's a good idea.  There are exceptions of course where it'll work - Heavy Rain comes to mind which I thoroughly enjoyed btw. But that's a very different game.

Qte to open a door is just pressing triangle. How is that any different then just hitting a button to open a door?

I was going to point this out... it's not a QTE to open doors. There are some doors that are locked that you have to pick but that's not a QTE either... neither is using the device that Tesla handed out to blow circuits.

People are overstating the use of QTE's in this game. Outside of a few fights with Lycan's or soldiers there are barely any and most are one two or three events... no where near the 10+ combinations of button mashing and analog stick jerking that the QTE's in God of War required.

I really enjoyed this game. There were some things I didn't like but QTE's were at worst, mildly annoying.

To clarify I was talking about the doors, locks, and circuit mini-games altogether. They were just too repetitive to me.  Once you've figured out how to open the 1st set of doors or circuits, there wasn't anything else to learn or get out of it so I just found it as forced for the sake of mixing up gameplay.  If anything, the gameplay just felt slower to me in general.  Although I'll agree that categorizing it as strictly QTE's is technically wrong.  It's the button prompting that I just felt could have been more challenging unlike a typical QTE where you don't know exactly where to expect it (i.e. location/button) and have to do it within a certain timeframe.  GoW was just simplying a sequence of attacks within a few button prompts.  I don't recall it requiring a significant amount of buttons to pull off any particular QTE.  Maybe the bosses? But boss fights were one of the highlights and strengths of the game anyway.

I wished they had a MP mode for this game.  As a huge Gears fan, I think I would have enjoyed it more.

Seems to be the general consensus. I'm especially excited to play it on my Vita, but I don't think it's getting released on PS4 and Vita the same day unfortunately.

I get what you're saying, but wasn't the lock-picking/electric box overload only used like 4-5 times each? It's not like they were making you doing it every 15 minutes or anything... There was even a couple times where the lock-picking wasn't even necessary to advance the plot.

It also wasn't hard and generally only took a couple of seconds each time you had to do one. I think you're just being a little too nitpicky in regards to the QTE's. ;)

They're going to catch a lot of shit for this if they don't announce today... Unless it eventually winds up being a killer month. I mean, I don't really care either way since mine lapsed a month ago, but you have to wonder what exactly is going on with them lately. They can't afford to keep making themselves look like idiots.

That'd be an interesting move and would be believable. If they had Rayman lined up but then Microsoft announced it was in GWG. I purchased Rayman Legends for PS4 at release. It's really a great game and is very good with remote play also. I'm excited to be able to replay it on Xbox One.

they look like idiots because they dont announce early?
Yes. Especially when they've never been late before.

It's March 2nd right now and we still have no idea even though the PSN store update is (most likely)only hours away... It just makes them seem silly. It's a small thing of course, but these little things are dumb and they add up.

Again, this is coming from a hardcore PS fan - I'm not going anywhere because that'd be silly on my part. To the general (shall we call them, mediumcore? Ha.) public, however, it just looks bad.

Sony's mistakes aren't just logistical, they're also PR missteps. They never should've leaked it to the public that they couldn't announce because it wasn't finalized. They could've just as easily claimed they were under legal obligation not to share the information until closer to release and that would've been that.

I'm sure there's a good explanation, but people don't want to hear good explanations. They want to hear that everything was handled perfectly, well in advance, and without complication.

This makes them look incapable, which is the last thing they need after the PSN outages, drive club PS+ failure, and overhyped products (Order 1886). They are squandering their lead.

If they aren't included with today's store update, then yeah, that would be a problem, but not announcing them ahead of time isn't a big deal to most people. In an average month, I would guess most people don't even know what the games are until they are actually available to download. Some people are blowing this way out of proportion.

Also, PS4 is finally getting the HBO GO app today!
