If you can get it for ~$500 I think that is a good enough deal. Just gut feeling, I’m thinking 3-4 more years till PS6, that’s enough timeframe to get some good use out the pro. If you ever wanted it, I think this was the deal.

I was an adamant anti-Pro person. The $200 mark-up for 1.5x more SSD space, no disc drive, and 45% better rendering (thanks to better GPU+memory) but what's otherwise the same old 5 year-technology is a ridiculous rip-off when we KNOW the chip-fab process is better now vs in 2020 (no COVID-era supply chain issues & general improvement in the production tech should mean cheaper CPU, GPU, memory and storage).

But having had one for like... a month now and seeing FF7 Rebirth, SM2 and Forbidden West running "45%" better is honestly mind blowing. RTX is stupid and you won't notice it unless you're looking (granted it is pretty damn cool when you do look) but there's such a notable difference between a game running at a full 60 fps or even @ 40fps with slight better graphics, it's crazy. And all of this is based on my old 2019 regular LED UHD TV (obviously way better on the new OLED but that's nothing to do with the Pro).

I got mine for $600 + $70 for the disc drive, would I say it's worth it? Still no. I agree with the two above: this is a $500 system (and I'd argue that's WITH a disc drive). If you have standard/slim PS5 and have $500 burn, save that for when the PS5 Pro is $500 or towards a OLED if you don't have one.

I have no regrets upgrading to the Pro. Doubled my storage and a lot of games look/run noticeably better. Hoping Sony releases some cover plates for this thing.

I cannot fathom the logic behind why Sony is not making pro compatible plates. apparently they don’t like money, because there’s a large market asking for them to be made, and the console has almost been out for a year now.

Also same, no regrets. I don’t have enough time to play many games as is, and when I do I want the best experience. The internal storage doesn’t do anything for me personally though, as I have a faster nvme installed. Nothing is stored internally except for the OS and media gallery I believe.

Game Pass is the reason why games like Doom TDA has sold less than 1m copies. Great for gamers, shit for developers.
Nah, Doom has a very tight, niche market. It's a series I'd never consider buying with the one and only time I did was Doom 3 that I never finished. TDA was definitely more up my alley and I did finish it, but the damn puzzles are such a slog it really kills my enjoyment. I think asking full price for a game that can be otherwise be speedrun with minimal skill in a few hours is the real issue here.

Also, Astrobot is very fun. Maybe not quite as good as Mario Odyssey, but best platformer we’ve gotten outside Nintendo I think. They fixed 3D camera issues long ago, if you can handle monster Hunter, like original poster stated, it’s the same type of camera.

Well Sony would know the number of Pro consoles sold and would know if there is profit to be made making completely new face plates....what really makes no sense is having all these systems that take different plates (between original/digital, slim, and Pro).

I miss my original Purple PS5:cry::LOL:

Also no regrets games look amazing, but I do wonder if it is the game, the console, or both. Indiana Jones was AMAZING (both looks and play. Definitely in my top 5)

True about knowing the amount of consoles sold. Though they’re the goofballs who moved the two clips on the top plate and made them incompatible. They have the molds and sizing, just make the damn new plates or they should have left them the same.

I keep hearing about Indiana jones. Is it truly that good or just marketing hype?

If you are a huge fan of the movies you will love this, if you are like me and dont really care for them it is a good, competent game but that is about all.

Hah! I fixed the typo.

I did like astrobot, though much prefer playroom. Something didn’t click with me. I just felt it was too long and too much of the same old. It didn’t feel fresh and I was just dreading finally finishing the levels and getting the platinum to be over with the game.

If you love Indy ( Raiders and Last Crusade..let's ignore the other movies 🙃 ) this game has the vibe and the look (I play on PS5 Pro). Troy does the voice over work and you would swear it was Harrison. It is more of a stealth game than action (which I prefer). All of the levels you can find a disguise that works so you do not have to constantly fight. (protip: always carry a melee weapon). It really is about exploration and figuring things out (no XP for killing/knocking people out). Some of the puzzles you really have to think about (there is a camera in game that some puzzles you can take a picture of to give you a hint)..

The side quests you stumble upon. No one has an exclamation point above their heads and some you come across by listening to people having a conversation. All the levels have "books" you can buy that will unlock the location of the collectibles if you want.

When I told my wife and eldest son that this was my favorite game they both reacted the same..."better than Horizon?"

Think it tool me 42 hours to complete and I didn't even collect everything. I am a "slow" gamer though so other peoples time with it will vary. That being said; I have yet to delete it becuase I am tempted to get all the trophies for it (the only games I have 100% are Ghosts of Tshusima, Astro Bot, and GoW).

I’m assuming you meant to direct that second part at me. Mario Odyssey is in fact in my backlog, among a few other similarly regarded 3D platformers. And I wasn’t implying that 3D cameras haven’t improved, obviously they have. I was explaining one of the reasons I bounced off of 3D platformers so hard when they were at the peak of their popularity, which in turn is why I have no burning drive to try to get more into the genre today. That may change in the future—like I said, I have some well-liked examples in the backlog—, but my decision to invest in a console isn’t going to be appreciably shifted on the strength of such a vague maybe.

Yeah, just saying don’t let bad experience with old platformer cameras stop you from playing any you want from the last few gens. If you just don’t like the genre, that’s one thing, but if it’s the camera, should be no worse than Monster Hunter. Someday when video game class has replaced literature class in school, Mario Odyssey will be required playing.

A lot of you are forgetting that Astrobot debuted on PSVR with Astrobot Rescue Mission. That game is also fantastic! Super Mario Odyssey should be moved to the front of anyones backlog. That game is a masterpiece!!

I think in terms of NS games, Odyssey is prob my favorite. I never got why both Odyssey and BotW were both highly praised and yet, it seems like BotW is one that's still talked about.

Feels good to have PS Premium again! Now, I didn't luck into renewing for $89.99 like some of you lucky bastards here but now my sub is set to expire right when it's on sale again during next years days of play. Even if they change it by a week, I'll still only be without it for a couple of days. $107.19 is still a good deal IMO and if I had known about the $89.99 trick, I would have done it.

I really need to revisit The Witcher 3 again. I couldn't get into it the first time lol
My biggest gamer secret is not yet playing Witcher 3's DLC.

But it's a fantastic game, but you've gotta be there for the story. If you're not, then the gameplay, IMO, is only serviceable in support of the story, and not worth playing on it's own.

Exploration is cool, but again, gotta be there for the main attraction.

You are not alone...I still can not get into The Witcher 3. That game along with MGS Phantom Pain and RDR 2 have started a handful of times and none of them hook me (and I enjoyed the previous games in MGS and RDR1).
I have not played the Witcher series and have not played a metal gear game in a long time (probably PS1 era).
But RDR2 is a masterpiece: gameplay, story and probably a better character arc for Arthur Morgan than John Marston.

I just don't believe this'll look this good on a standard PS5... or even a Pro, but holy shit if it does, that's insane. Graphics are one thing, but the... world is just alive!! So alive that, when that one guy was thrown out of the (what I assume to be) tavern into the wet muddy ground, I was disappointed his cloths didn't get muddy/wet.

I really hope this isn't another Cyberpunk issue. I can't wait to play as Ciri.

With my 4TB NVME drive, I could essentially download most every PS5 game I had on my account when I got it and that easily transfers to a new PS5 without needing to redownload stuff, which is a great convenience.
I bought a 1 shortly after getting my PS5. Bought a 2 on sale a couple years later.

Got a 4 on sale with Christmas money as a hedge against tariffs, and that's not even half full yet. I'd love an 8 but hand to god don't know when I'd actually NEED one.

In the past Xbox had marketing for CDPR games. I guess the sales gap this gen is just too big to ignore and it's going to keep growing after those ridiculous Xbox price hikes. I won't be surprised if 3rd parties eventually stop supporting Xbox after awhile. It's getting to the point where it's probably not worth it unless they want a game pass check.

Microsoft is really, really pushing the Play Anywhere model and a lot of games are being added recently. So even if consoles may not sell as much I think Xbox will still be supported via PC/Xbox Play Anywhere. I think the next Xbox is going to be more similar to a PC than ever if not even a “PC in a console box.”

Playstation and Xbox have basically switched roles. Where as Xbox used to rely on 3rd party, now they have enough studios to let their 1st party do the talking. Xbox has sold nearly 40 million consoles this gen. Any game that skips Xbox at this point is just shooting themselves in the foot. Xbox and Sega's relationship is stronger than ever! Square Enix is about to announce FF7 coming to Xbox this week.

We already know that these companies don't make money from selling consoles, the money comes from selling games. 5 out of the top 7 Playstation games are published by Xbox. Which company do you think is making more money? Sony or Microsoft? What games does Playstation have? Concord? Flop. Fairgames? Flop. Marathon? Flop. Bungie basically made Naughty Dog cancel Factions 2 and a Spider-man multiplayer game. Hundreds of millions of $$$ and years of development down the drain! The bigger question is what game or reason will people have to buy a PS6?

Play Anywhere is a nice feature, but I feel like it's very niche. Most PC gamers just want to play on Steam and I feel like the overlap of people who own both a gaming PC and a console is pretty small.

Most estimates put it between 29-31 million sales. It's not going to hit 40 million sales. It was already unlikely to before the price hikes, it may not even hit 35 million. There's a reason Microsoft is rumored to be fasttracking the next Xbox for a 2026 release. This thing is dead.

Also roughly half its sales is the Series S. Without that budget SKU the Series X by itself is basically doing Wii U numbers.

Saying Sony has no games is disingenous when just last year they had the overall GOTY (Astro Bot) and the MP GOTY (Helldivers 2). Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei are also safe bets to be GOTY nominees. I don't think Microsoft will have a GOTY nominee this year. Doom came and went and hardly anyone seemed to care.

Still think MS should focus solely on multi-platform gaming with all of its studios and ditch their consoles. They won't win the next gen either. They peaked with the 360, and that was all she wrote.

And they didn't even win the 360 generation. I think competition is ultimately good for the industry and hope they keep releasing hardware, but Microsoft has painted themselves into a corner spending so much money on Activision and investing so much into game pass

Purchasing Activision was their biggest mistake. It helps their bottom line, but it added virtually nothing of value to Xbox users. $70b just to put CoD and a couple of old remaster collections of Crash and Spyro on Game Pass is all Xbox users got from this. If they were gonna throw that kind of money around at least buy Rockstar lol.

It was the misfire of the Xbone that sank their boat. That and the inability to land any major new first party franchise during that era.

People make jokes of Sony's lackluster PS5 only exclusives, but Microsoft is functionally dead unless you wanted Forza, Halo or Gears games.

Remember, part of the Acti-Blizz acquisition was King. Candy Crush makes money and having a stable mobile gaming division helps them.

Sony tried to homegrow their GAAS. Microsoft bought theirs. The latter was likely a better strategy since it's a hard market, whereas getting one exclusive GAAS could have been a landslide win for Sony.

Xbox is just going to be the gaming service brand of Microsoft. From what I remember, gaming has been an on again/off again relationship with the core Microsoft business (corporate software). Since pretty much everything Windows is suffering under enshittification, it makes sense the Xbox division follows.

Whether they sell Xbox hardware in the future will be interesting. I could see them being more and more reliant on Azure-based cloud gaming more and more.

Sony is a hardware company, so I doubt they leave hardware and continue the PlayStation line in perpetuity.

There's no point releasing on Xbox unless MS is paying you to put it on GamePass. Individual game sales are weak on the Xbox because their customers are conditioned to just wait for it to show up on GamePass.

If anyone plays Monster Hunter Wilds on Playstation, here is a code for some sort of consumables for the game. Just clicked on it in my Xfinity account and now it won’t tell me what is included.

Sorry, but I have an Xbox Series X and play it way more than my PlayStation 5 and that’s because of GamePass. I can’t even remember the last time I played the three games you mentioned because there’s so many good day one games like Expedition 33 and, yes, Xbox first party games like Doom: The Dark Ages and Tony Hawk 3+4 Remake coming to GamePass.

Is it sustainable? Who knows. But just saying I play the hell out of my Series X because of it. It’s not just about Halo, Forza and Gears for me. And know plenty of others who are still all-in on Xbox due to GamePass and prefer consoles over a PC.

And I say this not as a knock on PlayStation because there are exclusives there I love to play. I’m just dispelling the idea that Xbox is just about Halo, Forza and Gears.

And leave Playstation and Nintendo as the only home consoles in the market? We went from TurboGrafx-16, NeoGeo, Atari Jaguar, Sega Dreamcast, 3DO, Xbox, Nintendo and Playstation down to only two consoles and that's a good thing? Sony raised prices of games to $70 this gen, released a $700 console and increased price of PS Plus. Now imagine what they would do if they had no competition lol.

That's like saying that Burger King should shutdown all of their restaurants because they're in 3rd place. If I feel like eating a Whopper I'll go to BK. If I feel like eating a BigMac I'll go to McDonalds. I'll eat what I feel like eating, I don't care which place sells more burgers lol.

So buying Activision was a mistake but buying Bungie was not? I think most players didn't want MS to buy Activision but remember that Sony made Deathloop exclusive and was going to make Starfield exclusive as well. At least, buying Bethesda and Activision stopped this moneyhatting shenanigans. Getting to play these games on GP for free is just a nice perk.

I don't care for CoD but I'll take Transformers and Marvel Ultimate Alliance in Game Pass. No idea what MS is waiting for lol.
