Pro Wrestling discussion topic--WWE, AEW, ROH, Impact, New Japan, indies

I haven't been to a live show in years. None of my friends are into it and neither is my wife, so it'd just be me alone driving almost 2 hours to get into Boston to hang out at a show by myself and then drive home. I feel like they never come to Worcester anymore.

I used to go all the time with my parents. Bushwackers licked my head once! Haven't washed it since!

I missed out on Raw in Anaheim and Smackdown in Ontario (45 minutes and 30 minutes away, respectively) last week because none of my friends around here care enough to go to shows anymore. When I attended to Hell in a Cell 2015, I went alone. I feel ya.

Dirt sheets are saying WM is 70% sold out with 5 weeks to go. I'm certainly not calling for the premature demise of the company, but considering how quickly they sold out historically, this is an indicator of dissatisfaction with the product/card, or maybe they've just found a stadium bigger than the # of people interested in (and can afford) to go to Wrestlemania.

On Ticketmaster, they had some ringside seats (5th row) still available at ~$1,600 per ticket. Not in my budget. ;)

I would say a little of both. Last year was ~70k, which is what this number is currently at.

The card for tonight's ROH show looks pretty solid minus the Whitmer/Page stinker. Apparently you can order it through PS3/4 and get 20% discount if PS+ member. I'd do that if I had a PS4. Matches in spoiler:

ROH World Championship

Jay Lethal (c) (w/ Truth Martini) vs. Kyle O'Reilly vs. Adam Cole

ROH World Television Championship
Tomohiro Ishii (c) vs. Roderick Strong vs. Bobby Fish

ROH Tag Team Championship
No DQ
War Machine vs. All Night Xpress

NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Championship
Bullet Club (Kenny Omega & Young Bucks) (c) vs. ACH, Matt Sydal & Kushida

Dalton Castle vs. Hirooki Goto

Okada vs. Moose (w/ Stokely Hathaway)

Michael Elgin & Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Briscoes

Alex Shelley vs. Christopher Daniels

Adam Page vs. BJ Whitmer

They're going for the record at 109k+, so that would put current sales at 76.3k. Which is a few hundred short of Wrestlemania 31.

AT&T Stadium is much bigger than Levi. Even if they only hit 80k, that's still huge.

That was my suspicion (that they're shooting for the moon with attendance here). I'm not at all a football guy so I only knew the stadium was gargantuan (but not how gargantuan). Thanks for the info.

What don't you like about those two? Is it individually or the two together?
I can't stand the angle and consider Whitmer as the good guy in it. I admittedly know very little of Page, all I know is that Whitmer looks too old for it (despite seeing he's only 38) and seems like a crazy uncle that won't stop talking. Plus it likely means having to suffer through more Corino. It's not compelling and has been built with no action.

Luckily for me, my lady has gotten pretty into it. We were ringside behind announce table for some PPV in Chicago a year ago (Extreme Rules? HIAC? I forget), and had to have her tone it down a bit because she wouldn't stop yelling profanities at Jerry Lawler. She was also completely sober.

It was my girl that talked me into getting the floor seats for Rumble and asks about going to house shows. R:Evolution was her first live show and it got her hooked.

My wife won't even watch on TV. Whenever she sees me watching "Slamamania Smackdown" as she calls it, she leaves the room and watches something else in the bedroom.

This has been a pretty good show tonight. Not sure if I want Lethal to lose it, it's been a while.

They just did a rope-break on a triple threat?

i miss the good old days of wreslting  where they would tape like 5 or 6  shows at  time and change what would be shown on TV. I remember one time they were here and  it ran from like 8pm to  1 or 2 in the morning  the place was almost empty  around the midnight tapings.  Also remember when  earthquake smashed hogan.on tv it showed him popping back up and beating the crap out of earthqake but  live he was scrapped off the ground and taking to the local hospital  :)

Finn Balor has posted a few hints that the new group is going to be named "Bulletproof Balor Club."

BBC, as initials, has a few additional interpretations. If you thought of the British Broadcasting Company first, pat yourself on the back. You value Doctor Who over porno.

Been going through the Rumble matches in order.

If you had told me in 1991 "Yeah, that ref that Undertaker threatened after being eliminated would be challenging him for control of the company 25 years from now in a steel cage at Wrestlemania", I'd think you're on fucking crack. HOW THE FUCCCCK.

Well, given that Honor Rising was the last weekend for Gun and Gallows, this ain't exactly clairvoyance.

They're being heavyhanded about it across the board. Which is fine - you're still building anticipation for a debut even if everyone knows it's coming.

That shitty ass Undertaker segment last night was just pure lazy ass booking at its finest. Show up, drop one line, leave? Really? He got all dressed up and wet haired for that shit?

NJPW for the month. Pleasant surprise there's already something to watch.

WrestleMania 33 (WrestleMania *Mickey Mouse ears logo*?) confirmed for the Citrus Bowl in Orlando. Supposedly, the venue has been renovated since WrestleMania 24.

I haven't seen anything other than strong rumors. I'm hopeful, also hopeful to have enough saved up for decent tickets. Thankful I won't need a hotel.

I'm still holding out hope that Wrestlemania will come to St Louis one day. The Dome would work well, St Louis has a great wrestling history, and it's close enough to Chicago and Kansas City for people who live there to come too. I know they've visted the Dome a few times over the years, but it's never worked out.

That sucks. He was always one of my favorites. Especially in VPW2, best wrestling game ever made. That Phoenix Splash of his still gets me off my seat when I see someone do it. In fact, seeing Jeff Hardy do it when he was still a nobody is what made me a fan of his. RIP.

Ryback: "LAST NIGHT, SPOTLIGHT WON BEST PICTURE. BUT NOW I WANT THE SPOTLIGHT TO SHINE ON ME."

Few wrestlers deserve hate the way Ryback does.

It's funny how they word it like that seeing as how all new subscribers get a free month regardless of when they sign up. So of course they'd get those shows for free by signing up now. Oh, WWE...

I'm pretty sure this is the first time they're offering the free month during Wrestlemania. Usually the offer is suspended for Wrestlemania.

When the network launched it required a six month commitment and you didn't get a free month.

Right. They hadn't even instituted the free month thing yet when last year's WrestleMania took place, although they had offered a few specific months of the year free to new subscribers.

You get WrestleMania 2016 for free?

I haven't been this disappointed with a lineup so far in years. Like, there's currently not a match at WM I could give a fuck about. Ambrose and Lesnar should be interesting, but I can't say I'm *stoked* about it.
