PSN has returned. What freebie games are you getting?
But selling your PS3 because of this is a BAD IDEA and YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD IF YOU DO IT. Also, YOU'RE PROBABLY STUPID IF YOU DO.

...Am I reading this thread right? :whistle2:k
That about sums it up.
Nice, that's a good value (free shipping as well(I believe)).
Yup, free UPS shipping label.

I'm glad I never save CC info on my accounts. It gets deleted as soon as I buy something. Hopefully info that's deleted isn't saved somewhere on the servers though.

I hope all the people trading in their PS3 on this forum, never return to the PS3 section, ever. Anything you say after the fact will never hold water. Because you're a quitter, and one less troll on PSN and this forum. Come to think of it, most of them have already made pretty concrete choices in what they're going to do, so why post? Kick rocks.

This is what you get when you post away from the OTT.

Calm down, son. If you get banned from here, what are you going to do with all your free time?
At least I'm not a fat walrus. Take that!
why don't you leave and play online on your ps3 you shifty eyed bastard.

You know, those hackers stole my one real account and five fake ones I made to access the stores in other countries. Good luck with that.

But you guys realize that on spokeo.com, you can put someone's e-mail, user name, or other information, pay $3.00 and get a lot of info on them? You should definitely check out that site and get your ass removed from there.
I dunno if this was posted yet, but this is a link discussing how Sony didn't know the severity until Monday. That explains the delayed response like I mentioned (and analyzing the data to assure there was a compromise takes a day, which led to the Tuesday news):
http://kotaku.com/#!5796027/sony-didnt-know-severity-of-ps3-breach-until-monday
So they needed to bring in an outside security firm just to figure out what information was accessed on their own network? If they were running a small site or were they Bed, Bath and Beyond, I can see them not having the in-house expertise to manage their own infrastructure, but Sony? No way. That's a ridiculous excuse.
And you are still buying the "they had NO IDEA until Monday" story?

I think you try to be a nice guy and I do my best to like you but, as I have said in your blogs sometimes, you are also just like a little kid. When you go on these crusades, it really does leave a sour taste in my mouth.
I don't want to wish ill on anyone, but I truly feel like the only way you would ever pull the Sony teat from your mouth would be if you had registered CC info rather than buying thousands of dollars worth of PSN cards and someone ran up tons of charges on it.

If by some some strange twist of fate you log into your PSN account once everything is up and running to find it completely empty with no purchase history, that would actually be beneficial.

Again, I'm not wishing this upon you, I'm just making an observation. Seriously, it's called blind faith for a reason. You need to be able to admit when mistakes were made.

As for me, the worst to come out of it has been that I can't move any games to my new PSP which I was really looking forward to doing.

Regardless of the fact that I was barely affected, I can clearly see from my perspective that things were handled improperly and the fact that you have yet to admit even one iota of fault really does discredit you IMHO.

Now, for the record, my gaming preferences are as follows:
This gen - 360
This gen portable - PSP
Last gen - PS2
Best ever - SNES/DC

I have never and will never attach myself to one company because, they are all run by people and you can never know what another person is really thinking.
But, I will base my feelings on track record amongst other things. PS3 started out terribly for me this gen. It was a blu-ray player only 90% of the time for the first 2+ years I had one.
The fact that it's region free on all games and blu-rays share a region between the US and Japan was really a winning point though. PS3 has really been creeping up my list that past couple of years and, had you asked me just a month ago, I would have said it was a VERY tight race between the 360 or PS3 being my favorite.

But, something like this happening really tarnishes it for me. Not because it changes the hardware at all, but because it makes me doubt the leadership behind it.
Having been in management for a long time, I have always felt that the people behind the products and services are the most important thing, so there is no way that I would look at this lightly.

Sony made a huge mistake. I'm sure there are dozens if not hundreds of people inside the company that know it, but getting them to admit it is the hard part. I am fairly sure that a wholly different story is going to come out about this in the future if anyone has the inclination to look deeper into it. Hopefully that letter from the U.S. Senator will ensure that happens.

But really, try to have at least a little humility. Personally, if I placed all my faith in one single thing the way you do, I would feel bad about myself.

I'd be more impressed if they weren't telling me half my family doesn't exist. :)

I'll never get banned. Didn't do anything wrong :) As for the free time....prolly take over the world.

there's always NeoGaf, top-notch posting on those forums!

They knew before Monday. If you believe otherwise you really haven't been paying attention. Sony really screwed up, and it's really a surprise it hasn't come to this before now.

Sony is going to have to do A LOT to bring their fans back to them on this. While they may have lost hundreds of millions of dollars in the past week because of this, they'll lose billions in potential sales in the future in order to gain the trust of their consumers back.

my PSN ID was stolen unfortunately.

I doubt the majority of sales affected will be to gain trust of their consumers...More-so trust from game developers, and thus their consumers.

Honestly, I'd say the vast majority of Sony's customers will look past this as a hiccup...Even though it's quite the blunder.

I think we all need to calm down here. I know that not being able to wait in line for bowling or verbally rape female avatars in Home is taking it's toll, but I think we should all just breathe and relax.

insande that it was one hacker. good for him, bad for us.
Repost of article since I am back 100 posts and havnt seen it but see people referencing it.
A hacker has obtained the personal information of PlayStation Network account holders and subscribers of the Qriocity streaming service, Sony said in a message to customers Tuesday.

Sony's investigations over the past week determined that an "unauthorized person" had obtained users' names, home addresses, e-mail addresses, birth dates and passwords, according to a statement being sent to all account holders.

The attack also has crippled Sony's PlayStation Network, which has some 70 million subscribers and has been down since April 20. The network lets customers download video games from the Web and play against each other online.

"While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility," said Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment, which manage the two services, in a joint statement.

The hacker could have taken credit card numbers, card expiration dates, billing addresses, answers to security questions and purchase history, but not credit-card security codes, they said.

Sony is encouraging customers "to protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss" by reviewing credit-card statements. The company also suggested that some customers may want to place a "fraud alert" with credit bureaus.

Sony did not say how many accounts had been compromised. A spokeswoman declined to comment Tuesday.

Some subscribers reacted angrily to the news.

"You waited a WEEK to tell us our (personal) information was compromised?" one PlayStation user wrote on a Sony blog. "That should have been said last Thursday" -- the day when Sony first acknowledged the issue.

The intrusions occurred between April 17 and 19, according to the statement. On April 20, Sony switched off the PlayStation and Qriocity online services, which have remained in the dark.

Users and paid subscribers were also mostly in the dark until Tuesday about the reason for the lengthy outage or about when services would be reinstated.

Sony initially said its PS network would be be back online within one to two days.

On Tuesday, PlayStation spokesman Patrick Seybold wrote in a statement that it could take another week before they "expect to restore some services."
