seriously considering getting Persona 3 since I've got $5 in my wallet from never pulling the trigger on R&C FFA. I wonder though if it would be better to wait for until I get a Vita and play the PSP version. Has anyone played the PS2 Classic version and care to comment on the visuals? Some games look fine, but others especially text heavy ones, can be a bit muddled.
I think the PES version from PSN is the only PS2 classic that's upscaled properly and plays in full widescreen. I remember others mentioning this the last time it went on sale.

Here's the launch trailer for the first episode of Jacob Jones, which is out today for Vita for $2.99

tempted to get this .... 500 mb makes it sound big but 2.99 makes it sound like a Very short game

found review

Although your adventure is only just beginning with this downloadable PlayStation Vita point and click puzzler, Jacob Jones and the Bigfoot Mystery: Episode One - A Bump in the Night's fiendish challenges will truly put you through your paces. The first instalment in the series is barely four hours long, yet with over 20 truly tricky tasks, you'll be forced to work for the content.

Pass rather spend the 3 on something that will last me more then 4 hours

That's because it's episodic.

well also holding out hoping they would all come in a package deal once all of them are out ... (that and really dont need to put another 500 MB on my poor little vita card after what i hope to download now... then again once i get done downloading these two other games i may pick it up (depends on how fast the downloads are tonight)

looks like a great game (mostly trying to talk myself out of buying it LOL

You missed it. About a year ago, all the Ultimate Sith content was way marked down, maybe $10 for everything.

edit : Found it. 9/14/11 - All DLC was 50% off for all, 75% off for Playstation Plus. All Sith content would have been purchased for $10 if you were PS Plus. I agonized over it, then passed.

Yeah that was a pretty decent sale. I bought all 3 of the SWFU DLC for $2.50 each. Theyre huge and still sitting on my hard drive waiting to be played.

So, is the Dragon Master pack not worth getting? I have not bought much of any DLC for anything, but I'm considering loading up in this sale. Buying all of it would be just under $30 (just under $59 at regular price), but I'm sure I don't need everything.

Who forgot? It is in Frisky's post.

You can add a note to your post if you want Frisky:
Dragon Master Pack = (Triad Enforcer Pack, Police Protection Pack, Martial Arts Pack, GSP Pack, Deep Undercover Pack)

Also you might color or asterik or something the DLC which comes with the digital version of Sleeping dogs so that people who have the disc version who have PS+ who have not already clicked to "buy" the digital version for the DLC don't accidentally buy it when they have access to it for free:
Retro Triad Pack
Red Envelop Pack
Street Racer Pack

Great game for $5.00. I am not an RPG guy but I really like this game. Definitely must try this especially for the price.

I don't know how you always manage to find all of these relevant articles, Frisky. Below is the rest of the article:

“I am confident that SD would grow to be one of our ten strong IPs, and I am very optimistic for great results in lifetime sales,” Wada said, driving the point home. “Just to reiterate, we expected greater revenues from SD in the First Six-Month Period, and what we are seeing now is simply the difference between actual and aggressive projections.”

So there you have it. Sleeping Dogs isn’t selling poorly—rather, Square’s internal forecasts were simply a little too high. Congratulations, United Front Games, for putting out a successful new Square Enix I.P.

This pretty much guarantees that there will be more Sleeping Dogs games in the future given how well the game have sold digitally, and I'm so excited for it. Sleeping Dogs is a brilliant game. It does so many things right, and it has so much potential. There's a lot there for sequels and prequels still. Can't wait.

While I expect some hate for this post... Wada also resigned around that time too. Just because he thought there was potential, that doesn't mean we will see another title, just that he thought it had potential.
Bad analogy since movies don't stay in the theaters for very long, so there's no opportunity for the studios to recoup costs if it doesn't meet expectations out of the gate. Games can have a much longer tail that can make publishers with poor short-term expectations look foolish.
Frisky, I've to disagree. Movies get more then one bite at the apple. A studio makes money off ticket sales, DVDs/Blu-rays, TV/Syndication, On Demand and last but not least merchandising. However, at the end of the day movies are judged by how much money they make short term because that's what investors and CEOs care about, short term gains. It is unfortunate that this same type of thinking has permeated the gaming industry.

It is up to the publisher to come up with more "conservative" or realistic sales estimates.

Square Enix seems to have high expectations in general but Sleeping Dogs was probably already high to begin with since they picked it up from Activision and Activision dropped it because development already went over the budget. For anyone not aware, this was basically supposed to be the next True Crime game. I liked that series and I like Sleeping Dogs. I'd like to see more of it in the future, too.

As far as DLC, I thought the actual gameplay ones were all worth the money. North Point has some Big Trouble in Little China themes, which is neat. For cosmetic stuff, I thought the Square costume pack was cool. It's fun to have him running around dressed as Agent 47 (Looks weird) or Adam Jensen (which I did the whole time I played) and it gives you early / easy access to guns, though you probably won't use them much.

Edit: It's also worth mentioning that the Monkey King Pack doesn't actually give you a staff that you pick up and use. It's just something that he briefly brings out during unarmed combos. Just mentioning that since some people seemed to be disappointed that it wasn't an actual weapon to use.

The movie industry has a great racket going on where they can make an insane amount of profit off of each movie, but the point wasn't about all of the extra points of sales opportunities that each medium. Games have DLC, GH/PH editions, GOTY editions, digital versions, PS+, and plenty of sale opportunities to also make some of that money back.

My point was that games have much more of an ability to have a long tail at retail, their initial attempt at sales, after launch than a movie does at the theater if it doesn't light the world on fire out of the gate.

You were saying, from what I could tell, that if they said at one point that it failed, it's still a failure even if they come back later to say that it wasn't true due to post-launch sales. Obviously, Square Enix has a problem with recognizing when their games are selling well versus the extremely high expectations that they somehow set for it, as evidenced by the notion that Tomb Raider was a failure despite having the best launch in the series' history. It's okay to recognize that publishers can be stupid and wrong about the success of their games and not just spout the company line as to what they had to say about it like there's no other interpretation. They're paying the price for their arrogance right now, but we can still say those games did well.

In light of the desire to not have the mods delete a bunch of posts again, I'll suggest that the topic is ended right now and just agree to disagree.
Is Knytt better on vita or ps3?
It's fantastic on both -- but given your title of "Platinum Hunter" I'd recommend it on PS3.

There's only one reason for this. 98% of the game can be completed using the cross-pad to control your character (which I highly recommend), making it play identically on PS3 and Vita. But if you're a completionist, there are a couple very difficult sections --
mainly where you have to pilot the green-sparkly powerup, particularly the section in Figure Space (Jobahifymo)
-- where you almost have to use the analog stick to make it to the end, and something about the Vita's analog sticks just didn't work for me in that mode.

If you're not looking to 100% it though, it's six of one, half a dozen of the other.

We agree that publishers are greedy/stupid. They set extremely high expectations because they want people to invest in their company. Thus, making them more money and increasing the value of the company. I could go on but suffice it to say we agree that Square greedy/wrong. They are guilty of short term thinking. End of discussion.
Which Persona 3 version is better PSN or disc version?
P3P has more content, mainly due to the fact there's a female main character you can play as, but because of the PSP's limitations, moving around is different and most cutscenes play out like something out of a visual novel due to no in-game models acting the event out (though dungeon exploring is the same), plus the animated cutscenes are reduced to a slideshow. Also, in P3P, you actually have the ability to control your party members, where as in P3 & FES, they automatically choose their moves.

It's essentially identical. I floated my save back and forth a few times, but mostly played on my Vita because of convenience. The PS3 controller does make some of the optional challenge areas a bit easier, at least for me, but for the main game the Vita is perfectly fine.
Which Persona 3 version is better PSN or disc version?
P3 FES is the same as the PS2 version. It's a wonderful game. At $5, it's a steal.

The PSP version does have a bit more content, but FES does come with The Answer. Granted, I'm not the biggest fan of that campaign because it's just a grindfest, but it's still a good 30 or so extra hours of gameplay that take place after the main story.

P3P does have full party control, but the problem with this is that it makes the game WAY too easy. The enemies and fights in Persona 3 were made to function within the game's AI party system, and by having complete control of your party it pretty much lets you break the game even on the harder difficulties.

It isn't on sale, but in case anyone cares, the last couple of Sound Shapes DLC were added to the US Store today. I did not see it listed in any of the info for the latest PSN drops, but maybe I just missed it.

They are both 99 cents.

Holy DLC! There's so much stuff for Sleeping Dogs, I don't even know what's worth getting. Guess I'll be doing some investigating.
seriously considering getting Persona 3 since I've got $5 in my wallet from never pulling the trigger on R&C FFA. I wonder though if it would be better to wait for until I get a Vita and play the PSP version. Has anyone played the PS2 Classic version and care to comment on the visuals? Some games look fine, but others especially text heavy ones, can be a bit muddled.
They did a wonderful job upscaling and widescreening FES. I'm a huge fan of the whole Persona series (to say nothing of SMT) and only just decided to try out FES the last time it went on sale. 80 hours in, not one regret. Jumped on it the last time it was $5, while it's got some differences from the PSP version which was on sale a couple months ago too, it's a solid update.

Has there been any word how many episodes Jacob Jones and the Bigfoot Mystery will have, or how frequently they're to be released? I haven't found a thing.
These Sleeping Dogs ones are enticing, though, and seem worth it. Especially if these include the one you need to max out the triad xp.
'Splain please? I'm still playing through the main story and was hoping to plat it from that - are you saying you can't?

I'll have to look into them some more but the tournament one I'll probably pass on - looks like a brawling thing and I just can't take any more of that. I've been dreading the fight club things on the map as I don't want to have to slog through those. But the Nightmare DLC looks interesting.

Nightmare in North Point adds trophies for sure. It doesn't look like the other ones they recommend on the Sleeping Dogs web site do (Wheels of Fury and Zodac Tournament, etc). But it definitely looks like there are more than 5 add-on trophies when I view them - so what else has them? I thought I saw a list several pages back but it is really hard to sift through this thread to find stuff ;).

Edit: OK, on another site (ps3trophies.org) I found out that it is Nightmare in North Point and Year of the Snake that add trophies. Guess I'll get those.

I just want to reiterate that one of the unexpected benefits of PS+ is that it is getting me to play games like this that I would have never even considered playing before. This game is WAY far out of my comfort zone but I am enjoying it quite a bit ;).

By the way, here's what ps3trophies.org has to say about reaching level 10 on Triad (and Cop):
Step 4: Replay story missions to reach Level 10 for both Triad and Cop Upgrades.

If by chance you didn't earn enough experience for either tier during your initial playthrough on the story missions, now would be a good time to replay them. Make sure to wear the appropriate clothing for additional bonus experience before replaying them again.

So you can of course do it via the main game - just might have to replay some missions.

No you can plat it pretty easy without dlc but if you buy the triad xp, you can get the plat even faster.

You don't need any of the DLCs to platinum the game or max out any XP, a few of the packs just make it much easier.

well you've all pretty much sold me on PS3. Last question: how difficult is it to get into? I've next to no experience with JRPGs, as they always seem overwhelming and absurdly complicated anytime I've tried them. That said, I've really wanted to try Persona, so either way I will almost certainly pick it up, but I'd like to know if I'm going to have to study guides and wikis to understand it well enough (I'm mainly interested in the social aspects, and the story. I'm assuming P3 has similar social elements to P4 right?).

It does a good job of warming you up to the mechanics you'll need to know, and adds new ones as the game unfolds. p3 was very different from p1 and p2, but the mechanics took me no time to transition into way back when. There are loads of guides and wikis out there for optimal play, guides for fusing the best possible personas for each level, etc, but it's very enjoyable without any of that if you just want to play the game. I'd recommend you stay clear of wikis and guides your first playthrough anyway :) They just ruin the fun, exploration, experimentation. Lots of good laughs and drama to be found there.

There are social elements to it, but they're done a little differently than p4.

EDIT: PM me NinjaSquirrel. I want your paypal address. I bought someone else P3P the last time the Persona games went on sale, I'll buy you P3FES. If you end up really liking it, maybe you can buy it for someone else when it's on sale. Spread Persona 'round :)

Year of the Snake adds another 4 trophies to go along with the 5 from Nightmare in North Point.

Maxing out Triad XP is one of the last things you will likely get done. You have to replay levels to get more Triad XP. The amount you have to do will depend on the clothes and stuff you get and how early you get them to help max out triad xp.

Use the crippling moves and Dim Mak when you get them. It's the best way to farm Triad XP.
