My 2000th trophy is a bronze and I didn't even notice I got it--I kept trying to get it for another ~20 minutes after it popped.  :wall:

I also just noticed that my "Fastest Platinum" is 5 seconds. Thanks, Sound Shapes.

I know, right? I was so close to just skipping the plat, but I found videos that I could follow for the more annoying battle challenges, so I figured what the heck?

Did I miss your post saying what you thought of the ending?
Yeah, I did all the character skills titles no problem, but these battle ones are something else. One of my first thoughts was actually, "damn, Vig suffered through all this?" Yet another game where I'm shocked the TT score is so low. Damn completionist JRPG players.

I haven't really processed the ending(s) yet.
I've only gotten the bad, normal and good endings, not the two extra special endings. I wasn't really connected to Ludger (probably didn't help that he never freaking spoke), so I guess I was OK with the good ending. Wish we got a little more Jude and Milla to be honest, because I'm a sap like that. I'll let you know more when I finish my second playthrough.

At the risk of sounding like a real Cro:

I don't think the N++ plat will be too hard to get. There are six trophies the involve getting all gold on the first, third, and fifth rows for just one episode, which is five levels. I have all of those already. The levels in the fifth row are tough, but nothing that can't be done without a few practice tries. I'm not sure what the requirements are to unlock the expert levels, though. Maybe they're already unlocked and I just missed them. The co op will probably be the hardest part since its local only and you have to actually use both characters.

Those of you that have played both Zero Escape and 999... how much more will I enjoy Zero Escape if I'm familiar with 999? Is it worth watching a Let's Play during my downtime at work or should I just skip it?
I'm not sure why Stotch said to skip it, but there were some aspects to ZE's story that only made sense (and thereby enhanced my enjoyment) after having played 999. I can't wait for ZE3.

Rant incoming:

What I hated is the way the normal and good endings were obsessed with killing off either Ludger or Elle and there wasn't really a satisfying ending at all. The writers failed to understand that you don't need to sacrifice someone to finish your story, especially when the reasons to do so were stupid--since you technically wished for all shattered dimensions to cease existing for the Elle ("good") ending, why on earth did Ludger have to die? Origin and Chronos also both proved to be huge a-holes regardless of the endings; Chronos interfered with Origin's Trial just because he had a thing against humans, it results in nearly destroying everything (and killing either Ludger or Elle), and Origin just gives him a very slight scolding? fuck. For all his being touted as the equivalent of God in the Xillia universe, Origin sure seemed to have a bias against humans.

I might have said this before, but I didn't like the original Xillia cast in this one (they were slightly better in ToX1) because their "character development" resulted in them being in the exact same positions they were in at the end of the first game--nothing really changes by the end of their individual stories in ToX2, and they all still blindly worship Milla because OH SHE'S MILLA MAXWELL; the only exceptions to this are Gaius and Muzet, whose stories I appreciated because you fought them in ToX1 and you get more background for each. I really liked the new main characters (Ludger, Elle, Julius, Bisley, and even Rollo) and would have preferred a game where your party consisted of Ludger, Julius, Gaius, and Muzet.

The cutscene where Ludger confronts Julius and kills him in the "perfect" shattered dimension where that dimension's Ludger works in the train station's cafeteria stunned me because it made me suddenly care about Julius in the span of 1-2 minutes and wish he didn't have to die. I don't care if it sounds pathetic: I almost felt like crying when he died.

It sounds cruel of me to say, but if not for the fact that it completely discards/ignores Elle and Bisley, the "bad" ending felt the most satisfying because you had to kill everyone to protect your brother...even if he was going to die eventually anyway.

...Man, Tales of Hearts R was so, so, so much better than both ToXs.

I played the crap out of Zero Escape and didn't bother with 999. I never once felt like i was missing something. So if you're not dying to play it, then don't waste your time with it.

Denver Biscuit Company for lunch today!  It's so good!  Was on Diners, Drive-ins, and dives!  Biscuit sandwiches and breakfast items.  The building also houses a pizza place that is amazing as well!

I'll just leave this here!

And they tell you that in VLR, so you don't need to play 999 to know that.
True, but since
I had played as him for hours in 999, I was able to understand his motivation a bit more (at least, I think so--it's been a while).
It also just seems weird to skip the first game in a planned trilogy (ZE3 is being touted as answering every lingering question) unless you really don't have time to play it. Some people were forced to jump right into Mass Effect 2 when it first came to PS3, but IMO, the story didn't mean as much if you hadn't played through the first ME.

there's a fighting game tourney in KC tomorrow! There'll be like a hundred people and it'll be streamed. Should I go?

I participated in a gaming tournament one time, a local Goldeneye tournament. I got stuck playing as Natalya with her bright colored shirt so every time I entered a room I was the first person to get shot at. All of the rest of the other 3 default characters are wearing black.

After spending some of the morning picking up some GS boomerangs I just did a Vig-level trade at an out of the area GS. Total was $994 after coupon. Employees were freaking out over the total and I think one of them took a picture of it. Bought a new DS4, XB1 controller, and some Amazon/Shell GC's to bring the total down to a more reasonable level but my plan to trade at a second store later is definitely not happening today. Thankfully I only have a few games left to trade.

Vig, do you know if the ban comes from having a $1K trade or is it the transaction total? If the latter, then I should be okay.

There are some character overlaps between the game, though it had been long enough that I had played 999 that I had forgotten a lot of it. The game does a pretty good job of catching you up, though you aren't going to have nearly the investment without playing the first game.

If you have an Iphone or Ipad a version of the game that has removed all the puzzles (the game briefly describes the actions you took to solve the puzzle) and thus only the story and decision parts are present, is available on iOS for $4.99 if that sounds more preferable than watching a let's play or hunting down a DS copy.

I never heard about 999 before I played Zero Escape, and I loved that game. 999 is only for the DS, correct? So yea, you should be good to go skipping 999.

It's unclear what exactly triggers the (temp) ban, but it probably helped that you bought a bunch of stuff to lower the total. Did that store require your Driver's License for the trade? If so, you need to be careful, but if not, you're probably in the clear.

If I ever did a $1k trade at any of my gamestops 100% they would call the cops and the regional manager. I get the third degree if I have more than a couple newer games to trade in with comments like 'how did you even have time to finish these? Are they yours?'

They did actually. This was a store out of my normal area which does not take ID's. I'm definitely not trading anything else today but my go to my local store tomorrow and test out the waters. I only have a few games left anyway so if I get flagged tomorrow and can't trade then it's not much of a loss.

Got the plat in Borderlands 2 for PS4.  Also finished up Torgue's Campaign of Carnage.

Thanks for the assist on Terramorphous this afternoon Topside.

Does defragmenting a hard drive actually do anything? Some people were saying I should defrag my drive to speed up the windows 10 install.

I also deleted about 150GB worth of stuff that was just taking up space. Uninstalled almost all programs. I'm probably going to give it one more shot when all this is done and call it quits after that.

This Puzzle & Dragon Z + P&D: Super Mario Bros. edition 3DS games is addicting. If you own a 2DS or 3DS and like matching 3 or more games, it's a must to own.

I assume it isn't an SSD drive? Those you don't defrag. Back in the days of FAT32 (instead of NTFS) it DID make a difference. With faster drivers and NTFS I don't bother unless a machine is really running slow or is seriously under powered.

If is a spin disc drive it can't hurt I guess.

I finally got my Win 8.1 machine all patched up. I reserved my copy of Win 10. Didn't get an email conf from them like I requested. I know I can download the installer to a USB stick but don't have a large enough one handy. Have a few at work so might wait till Monday if MS doesn't push it out to me by then.

It's a holdover concept from the old days. On modern hardware it doesn't make a dramatic difference and I thought win7 and later added a scheduled task to do it regularly anyways (if you leave your PC on).

If you're running off of a SSD, don't bother. How bad is it fragmented, if at all. It's a default setting on Windows 7 and 8 to run it weekly, usually at 1AM Wednesdays so it may not even be fragmented. Was a bigger issue in XP as there was no schedule for it to run and would take hours to defragment.

Thanks everyone for the 999 input. I get that I can play the game without playing the first one and still be none the wiser, but from those that played the first one it seems that they're glad they did so I'll probably try to catch up on it before diving into the second.

That sounds exactly what I would be looking for but unfortunately there's not an apple product in the house. I'll see if I can catch a let's play of that version somewhere.

I can't believe no one else got Tetris. bollocks. I haven't been able to find an online match yet!
Does it have that mode from the Wii Tetris game where you have to arrange the blocks to help the guy climb to the top of the screen? That was fun.

Nope! None of the fun modes from the Nintendo releases. But it has relatively fun/weird coop and vs modes. I like playing Tetris, it was my jam on the original game boy. Hours and hours and hours lost to that thing.

Boo. Other than Picross, I probably put the most time into Tetris DS out of all my DS games. So many good modes.

Also, that music in that video I posted is sweet.

If you have an SSD, don't defrag. The point behind a defrag is to make it so that all the individual pieces of files are grouped together so that when the disk goes to read those files it doesn't have to go to location a to read part 1, location k to read part 2, z to read part 3, etc.. With a mechanical drive that causes a lot of slowdown due to the travel time. Windows 7 and 8 both do scheduled defrags for mechanical drives, though, so you shouldn't have to bother.

SSDs never need to be defragged. They don't have that mechanical movement so the speed should be the same no matter where on the disk each file piece is located. Additionally, defragging the drive is damaging for SSDs because each location on the drive only has a limited number of read/writes. If you defrag the drive it's moving bits of information around over and over again and is just wearing the drive down.

If you have a traditional hard drive a defrag won't hurt, but you'd be better off buying a SSD instead. :D/

I have PS4 Tetris.

And I don't have an SSD. This computer I got in 2008. I ran the analyzer and it was only 2% defragmented according to that, so I didn't bother with it.

Instead I busted out my old Windows 7 install disk and wiped out what I had and reinstalled it.

Ya, it's a shame it's not available for Android.

SSDs are cheap enough nowadays that there's really no reason not to have one. Quite a few models are 250gb for around or under $100 and it makes a huge performance impact. It's the biggest single upgrade you can buy for the vast majority of computers.

I have the Samsung 840 Evo 250gb and it's worked perfectly for me. This is the slightly updated 850 Evo and it's upgraded a bit from mine. It's a bit older now, but reviewed quite well and is pretty popular:

If you don't want to get a new drive, though, just wiping the old one is definitely the best approach.
