Reduced Price Game Guides: Thread Seven and a Half.
Well, I know when I found a Dual Shock 2 listed as $7 or so, when the rest of them were marked $19.99(a whole $5 off regular retail, boy what a deal), they let me have the controller for the price it was marked. And, this was at a GS brand store no less. :whistle2:X

However, unless you live in a state with strict pricing error rules, where they could get in serious trouble for denying a sale because 'it's not supposed to be on the floor already', there is nothing to stop a store from saying 'you can't have that'.
If it's marked you might have a case, but most guides are still marked at original price, so doubtful the law would help any.

That's what sucks! A friend of mine was able to get some way back but once he got em' they changed backed to the regular price. I guess because they lose money from it.

i m going to be very friendly with all my local gc employees as i live soo close 5 minutes on my bike. i was there today and picked up tmnt for the T2G1F Deal at gs. I saw a LOAD of guides on the floor, i did see some older ones such as gh2 and Soul Caliber 3, ill check the prices tomarrow. i also noticed about 20 gamecubes sitting in the back, they have a huge stock room

remember older guides does not equal pennied guides.

So I'm wading through the earlier pages and I'm a little surprised at the penny-outing. I didn't know about it before, but it makes a little more sense to me. My grandpa seems to get these semi-old guides, and I never knew why or how. The pieces have fell into place for me! So if Casey Lynch's advice of just asking for the guides doesn't work, it seems I know someone with connections! :D Yay me!

Edit: Ok, something that I'm wondering. How come book stores like Borders don't penny out guides? On one hand, it's great knowing I can find old guides there, albiet at the MSRP, but on the other hand, I don't think Prima's FF7 guide is going to be a big seller now.

Book stores do penny out guides, but you'll never get them....they field destroy tons of stuff at book stores, its something they do weekly for not just guides. Generally the guides will always be removed from the shelf before they hit a penny.

Also that FF VII [brady actually...if they had a versus guide I'd happily pay retail for it] has been reprinted several times over the years. You can buy it online for $10 shipped or less. I think the FF VIII & IX guides are actaully more hard to get and more costly.

Ohhh, I didn't know that, about the reprints. I'm pretty sure i remember them having FF8 guides though.

Precisely. Book Stores, be they national chains, smaller chains or even mom & pop type stores do books and mags. They don't do other stuff and have a shelf of books and mags in their shops.

Long story short; they do penny guides. They just do them correctly.

If all venues did penny items correctly, we'd all pay full price when we needed a guide, or go without.

*******Madden 07*********
I'm going to go ahead and update post 2 and the wikis. I'd ask for confirmation but this is one no one really cares about, so I'm not too worried.
Some AMAZING strategy guide deals at GS/EB this weekend!!!!

Splinter Cell: Double Agent $5
NFS: Carbon $5 (yay lol)
FEAR $5
My nipples are hard just thinking about it!

Hey now. There's a lady present. Let's have a little class.

I wonder if we'll be seeing any penny guides tomorrow at BB? They were my last source of guides. It'll be sad if I can't get any more.

I think maybe BB is getting smart, since they used to penny the guides on the site too when they pennied them.

And, I don't recall the listings for them going to .01 last time they dropped stuff.

Plus, where the heck is uhhhh what's their name? The Best Buy 'source' we had for a couple months there. Damn, I can't think of their name right now.

Anyway, if for nothing, I'd be on the look out for stuff to drop probably next week or the week after, since it has been a bit since they had a decent drop there.

And, I'd be betting on maybe God Of War II's guides to drop finally or maybe Gears, since both have been out for a WHILE now, though I'm seeing that BB is getting like Gamestop and any guides which still sell good numbers don't drop(like New Super Mario or Animal Crossing).

Vahn01 i think
i found SC:DA and NFS:Carbon for 5 a pop at gs
LOL Part of the Gamestop weekend sale email, not really a deal and definitely not worth $5 each, though if all guides were priced like that they might sell better than they do.

Yeah, they were pennied. I got those a month or so ago at BB.

Grabbed 2 copies of Shadow Hearts guide at Gamestop today while buying EA to flip at gamerush, the guy was really nice about it and even told me to grab the other when I only took 1 to the counter.

For the half a dozen times I've notified you people of drops prior to their dropping, its good to know you remember who I am. As for reporting anything, if there was anything to report, I'd do it. But we havn't had a guide drop in months.

Don't worry vahn, many of us know your screenname AND appreciate the valuable info you've given to the CAG community. ;)

We still love you! Strange that no drops have happened at BB recently though...
Don't worry vahn, many of us know your screenname AND appreciate the valuable info you've given to the CAG community. ;)
Yep, we remember. Although at times I do want to spell your screen name as "Vaughn" for some reason.

Hey, wait a minute, are you saying I don't value their info just because I can't remember every CAGs screenname who has given us guide drop info? Because, if that's what you're saying, then you're wrong. :booty:
It was pennied at bestbuy months ago. Havent seen it reported to be pennied at EB/GS though
brian,i managed to get the red steel guide yesterday along with madden 07 for 2 cents, when i bought them the clerk said that there might be some other guides that were pennoed but not sure

Well I finally got denied at an EB that I know the manager at. I found a Shadow Hearts guide this evening & she would not give it to me because she got written up for selling a penny guide. The DM is being quite strict & she said that this is a new direction from corporate to buckle down on the penny guides. She also said that the DM is supposed to come in & ship them back now instead of trashing them. It looks like the penny guides at EB/GS are about over. :(

Very likely thanks to that PSM article...

I still don't understand why employees are leaving the stuff on the floor when they should be pulling them, especially if a corporate-mandated crackdown is in place.

Yeah, if they're going through the trouble of shipping them back instead of field destroying them, then some serious stuff went down. New company policy: "Trust No One".

LOL That's how the DM is around here, since he used to think alot of his clerks were giving me the info when I was coming in and just picking guides up to be PC'd and being told they pennied. He's a very suspicious person, to say the least.

Oh and....I already snagged 2 of the FTNW guides from a GS store out in Paramus when I went out there to see Sicko with a friend back during the week of July 4th. They are on my TL, but FOR TRADE ONLY(for wanted guides or games only), if anyone wants them.

Yeah, there's really not a policy like that. In fact, I seem to recall reading that employees were allowed pennied merchandise only if they got them for personal use.

And precisely why Gamestop purchasing EB has ruined the great company that EB once was...

I know, however I believe it comes down to how strict the DM is. Some just could care less yet others are pretty strict about it. I even hooked this manager up with an older guide she was looking for but now that this has happened it's no dice for me...or her now. lol
So if i see any of these guides on the penny list at EB they will be pennied? in Canada aswell?
Any guide on the EB/GS list will ring up a penny in store. However, I don't know about Canada. I would assume this is the case, but you crazy Canucks like to change everything around.
