So, I went to Best Buy to get Assassin's Creed plus the LE guide since all guides are 25% off. Anyway, I noticed a lone Zelda: TP LE guide and since I hadn't seen them anywhere else for a while, I'd get for the 25% off. I go the pay and when the cashier rings up the guide, something comes up of the screen, she clicks Ok, rubs it on the counter for the security thing, and bags it up. But it didn't ring up on my receipt. So I'm curious, did it drop and that was a no sell warning that came up when she scanned it? Or did I just luck out with not paying for it?

she probably scanned the wrong bar code

I managed to find Lost Planet and The Darkness tonight at 2 different stores. There were a few more guides at the location where I found LP, but I didn't want to push my luck. At the other store, the guy would only let me keep the guide after tearing off the cover (first time I'd seen that).

I've noticed that I have a much higher rate of success when attempting to buy 1-3 $.01 guides, in comparison with bringing up a larger stack.

I have NO luck locally, unless I hit the dump store for PS1 titles from GS here, which has let me have pennied guides relatively frequently(though nothing good) in the past couple months.

Unfortunately, the two GS stores round here with large guide racks are up on pulling them and even if I find one that is pennied, I'm SOL as to getting it due to the DM's orders to not sell them.

I've had the local GS and TRU stores say they can give me guides, but have to mutilate them by ripping off covers before they give me them.

If I were more gutsy, I might try DDing for some after a big drop, in the hopes that the guides didn't get tainted by crap from the Super Suppers place next door at the one store.

I wouldn't dare try diving for them at one of the other stores, since they are right next to a tanning/piercing place. BLECH!!

Oh great, there's something for me to try not to think about as I drift off to sleep tonight...

Actually, I've seen numerous people mention diving for guides because of the crackdowns in their areas too. But, I still have my sources for guides, so I don't have to resort to that.

Went to Best Buy yesterday and the guide section is overflowing again. I stopped to straighten up all the guides that were being crushed and whatnot since, hey, I'll be buying them soon.
Sorry, but tradeposts don't belong here. (I do have Shadowrun by the way)...
We've argued this out before (with no official resolution). Trade posts help to bump up the thread and keep it visible.

I know you've been here longer than I have, but I'm pretty sure that mods deleting trade posts counts as "official resolution."

what Slim noted....

But the stickied Game Guide trading thread is well read...just post your wants there !

Yeah, it makes more sense to post guide wants and guides available to trade in the Clearinghouse, anyway, because people are going to go there to see what you have to trade. Not here.

Besides, Gwen clearly states in post #1 of this thread that trade requests don't belong here. It's not as huge a deal right now, but it does become a major pain when there are guide drops and I have to sort through a bunch of posts where people are asking for trades or are telling what they bought, etc.

That's why a specific place was created for those types of posts.

I went to the local Gamestop (one of the "cooler" ones) and inquired about a Wild Arms 5 guide after not seeing it on the shelf. The clerk says he's positive that they don't have it since 3 other people asked about it already that day. I knew there were a lot of CAGs in the area but that was just ridiculous.

Anyway, no luck at the various Gamestops I went to for this latest round of drops. For the first time in a while I was completely shut out.

I have a question! Since everyone keeps talking about the Animal Crossing: WW guide (and it's habit of still not dropping), I have a question about it that hopefully somebody knows. Does it have an item checklist like the guide for the orginal AC does?
What clogs up the board more? 1 post asking about a trade or 4 posts telling him not to do it? Brilliant
or a post like this or how bout the good old.....so is there any drops today posts...those r my favs LOL

Aargh, struck out at all 7 GS in the region. Damn. I found the Socom and Jericho guides, but no one would want them so I let them rot...

That Rogue Galaxy I've been eyeing for over a year was finally gone, dammit.
i may sound like a dumb ass but where do i buy these guides that are 1 cent?
Check the first post in the thread.

I have both guides, but could only find the WW guide at the moment. The WW does not have a checklist, it only shows all the particual items, but does not let you check them off. It does include a pull out calender of special events.

Hey dude, do you know if there are any drops on Monday?

You can PM me if you want.

Thanks! =^n_n^=

I've been able to get pretty much all that I was wanting except for Wild Arms 5. Could someone who was able to get the WA5 guide post the SKU for it?

Which one is the sku?
On the $0.01 price sticker there are two sets of numbers........
Just realized the second set of numbers (122297) is the date they dropped.
The first number is
832123.

That should be it. Looks like there might be one at a store across town that I don't go to much. Sweet, thanks!

Dammit, I found a rogue galaxy but the guy only sold it to me after marking it up to 17.99. I'm going to try and get it price adjusted and if not return it.
How do you search the stores inventory?
www. gamestop. com/productavail.asp?miles=10&sku=XXXXXX&zip=XXXXX

Replace the Xs for the SKU and your ZIP code. You can also adjust the miles.

Be warned that for penny guides, a lot of the stores toss them before they actually take them out of the inventory.

EDIT - as was the case with WA5, showed in stock at 2 stores but both had tossed them already.

Sweet thanks.
Yeah I figured they'd do that.
Still kinda helpfull and keeping the hope alive.

o_O They dropped in 1997?

There is no chance they will price adjust a penny guide. They probably won't even let you return it.

What's SKU?
What's SKU?
A SKU is like an item number or a stock number. It's specific for each chain so the Best Buy SKU for a certain game or guide would be different from a GS/EB SKU for the same item.

Most stores have the SKU for an item printed on the price tag

Hehehehe

You hit ALL of the GS stores down in Philly area, huh? My personal favorites used to be in Springfield, where I nabbed something like 60-80 guides from the Best Buy there about 2 years ago. Weird part is, they used to have Maximo game guides still on the shelf @ that BB too. But, on my last trip to AC, they had apparently finally pulled them.

Why did you buy it then?
What clogs up the board more? 1 post asking about a trade or 4 posts telling him not to do it? Brilliant
I couldn't agree more . . . I especially like how many posters will dog a repeat posting of a deal.

Anyone with an extra Crackdown guide? :)
I bought it because I was hoping to price adjust it and if not I can just return it
I see. It's very unlikely that they would price adjust to a penny or even let you return it. If a supposed .01 guide doesn't ring up as a penny, it's best to just leave it alone. Hopefully, I'm wrong about the price adjustment/return policy on guides, but I would be surprised if they did.

But if he paid full price for a guide at least it's an RPG guide, particularly Rogue Galaxy. It's not much smaller than our phone book.

Wouldn't price adjust it at 3 different stores so I just returned it and they told me they would throw it away.

But I did find a great penny guide store, a lot of old ones:

Got (dont know if all of these are on the Wiki):
Rogue Galaxy
Rune Factory
Tales of the Abyss
Dawn of Mana
WOW Burning Crusade with Binder
Sigma Star Saga
SOCOM Fireteam BRAVO 2
Gun
Eragon
From Russia with Love 007
Tony Hawk's Amercan Wasteland
Spyhunter Nowhere to Run
Suffering: Ties that Bind
Crash Twinsanity

Still need to find Wild Arms 5 and I have checked over 20 stores now

Today is a sad day...I was rejected from this particular EBGames for the first time ever. Wild Arms 5, RE:4, and Heavenly Sword are now probably on thier way to the dumpster because I couldn't get them to sell them to me. Sooo Sad.

Is this the end?!?

I managed to find more copies of the Shivering Isles guide at BB yesterday. Stickered ones were pennied, non-stickered were full price.

The bolded ones have been pennied out for over a year, as far as I know. I know that when I was still collecting as many penny guides as I could get my hands on, I probably grabbed about 5-10 of the 007 and Suffering:TTB guide.

Luckily, friends and fellow CAGs wanted some of them or I'm sure I'd still be stuck with all of them.

Has anyone ever had the employees of a particular EB/GS offer to let them check their stacks of guides in the stockroom before? I've only ever had this happen once and it was when I was WAYYYYY out of town(up in CT), just over the border from NY state.
