From Kotaku:

Also, an IGN Insider interview (transcript provided by reader Max) let slip that buyers of Rock Band 2 will have access to all of the songs off the original Rock Band disc, available as free DLC. Full details on both after the jump.

Says IGN 360 editor Nate Ahern:
Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour create an interesting situation for gamers. If you bought Rock Band 1 then chances are you'll feel cheated by the release of RB2, thus you'd think that GHWT would be the way to go as it somewhat redefines the music gaming genre. However, if you didn't buy the first Rock Band then I would absolutely agree with notagoth. Immediately upon purchasing Rock Band 2 you'll have the ability to download a huge library of songs, as well as all of the songs off of the original disc as a free download.

I believe that has already been debunked as being false.

As for the leaked lists... I posted elsewhere, but I wouldn't put it past Harmonix to mix in DLC for play testers just in case this kind of leak happened. It would also be easy to root out the leak if different testers had access to different setlists. Also by mixing in DLC they could be gauging interest on which songs to include on the disc and which ones to relegate to DLC. Overall, I'm doubtful at the authenticity of it and am anxiously awaiting E3 for the official announcement.

That leaked list looks OK to me. Remember - songs that look 'meh' on paper are actually really fun to play with friends and beer. The next two weeks are going to be brutal on my wallet since I'll be getting the Who pack and both RHCP and Rush songs. I'm not into RHCP but for some reason my daughter loves them (she's 3). I think it's because of the bass because she's always bobbing her head wheneverr they come on the radio or something...

That RB2 leaked list just screams of fanboyism. Plus it still has Panic Attack listed as Dream Theater, and I'm willing to bet money that it is Finger Eleven, or something not DT.

I've been wrong before, but it just seems unbelievable.

Exactly. As much as I want it to be Dream Theater, I have my doubts based on the screenshot. The list also has Shooting Star by Bad Company which was leaked months ago as a cover. Harmonix has already stated that every song in RB2 will be masters so unless they pulled a 'Rush' and got the master track since then it just seems like someone threw missing DLC into a list and called it the RB2 setlist. Pinball Wizard would also fall under that heading. Long rumored but never released. Of course with it not being in the Who pack next week, that one seems more plausible than most.

"Spoonman," "Everlong," and "Alive" are like... three of my 25 all-time favorite songs. They have some other good, no... great bands on there, I just wish they picked better songs.

If that's true, I am going to be pissed beyond belief. I'll be grabbing my pitchfork for sure.

Actually I find this list better than any GH or the previous RB. I hope it's true.

And yes, there better be Dream Theater on it. I don't care what song. That is the biggest no duh of all no duh's since GH1.

A few things...

One, after the megaton of GH4, Rock Band needed to pull something out of it's ass to release this fall, so I would have to think that holding back some of the bigger 'missing' DLC for the disc is a smart move. While I'm sure that RB2 was being worked on, there was no guarantee it was coming in the fall, nor did it yet have direct competition anyway... until the GH4 bomb dropped.

Two, if they are really serious about the RB1 songs being a free download for RB2 owners, they'd better offer some other sort of incentive for those who already own the first RB. Now, that's cool for new people, and cool for old owners because of the convienience of having to need only one disc... but there's a huge disparity there. Now, I have no idea what they could offer to counterbalance that, but it has the grand effect of pissing people off. Personally, I only picked up RB about 2 months ago, and trust me... if I had known this, I would have easily and gladly waited. Still, it doesn't seem plausibly true just yet, so I'm curious to see where it goes.
But seriously Harmonix, why Working Man again?

The Spirit of The Radio or Far Cry or something should have been in it instead
SUBDIVISIONS!!

There's no way they're going to have all the RB1 songs as a DL. In terms of bandwidth alone it'd be devastating to LIVE, the networks would slow to a crawl while hundreds of thousands of people downloaded gigabyte+ files on launch day. The only viable way that HMX could do this is via a disc DL. That is, RB2 could allow you to pop in your RB1 disc and it'd rip all the songs off of it to the HD. I'm not even sure if MS would let HMX do this since they're so protective of their system and this could *possibly* allow for some kind of Software exploit similar to the TP hack for the Wii.

They could put up 6-8 track packs every few weeks that are only accessible through the RB1 store(not the marketplace or RB2 store). Therefore you have to have the disc to d/l them, it's only a handful of tracks at a time and they will work in RB2. It would also cut back on people renting and downloading 60 songs at once. It would take multiple rentals, enough so that it would be beneficial to just own the disc to get the DLC versions. This would also give the fans something to look forward to every few weeks.

having all of the rb1 tracks available on day one would not be a huge deal. It will however NOT BE FREE. They'll probably charge the standard $2 or $1 per song. It's already been proven that the IGN guy didn't know what he was talking about (IE was talking out of his ass). I'm sure we'll find out the real details next week. I have a feeling they'll have some system where you can send back your rb1 disk and get a one time use code that will download the entire rb1 tracklist if you so choose(probably wishful thinking).. the other options just aren't feasible..

I don't believe Harmonix is going to give out RB1 songs and I'm not expecting them to either. I'm sure there will be many available through the DLC but they won't be free (to new or old user) and my guess is they will cost $1 each. I don't believe they are going to let you send in the RB1 disc and get the songs for free. I wouldn't be holding my breath for any special treatment.

I'm just grateful that DLC is compatible with RB1+RB2.

i'm sure they won't give away rb1 songs for free but i would like it if they made the extra pixies song available as a free download, so as to complete the album. The Who's, won't get fooled again, would be nice too.
they'll have some system where you can send back your rb1 disk and get a one time use code that will download the entire rb1 tracklist if you so choose(probably wishful thinking)
That's the only solution of getting the RB1 songs to play with RB2 for free that is viable.

I think it'd be nice to have some sort of system to make you install the Rock Band 1 tracks, then, say, every 5 times that RB2 is loaded, it asks you if you want to use the RB1 tracks, then you put the RB1 disc in to verify, then load up RB2. Might be too complicated, but its a thought.

They're not going to give away all the RB1 disc songs as free DLC to everyone. That doesn't make any sense at all. If they do anything at all with the RB1 disc songs, there's going to be some kind of way of verifying that you have the RB1 disc. I'm thinking that's the only way they'll allow people to download disc songs from RB1.

Isn't Wave of Mutilation included in the Pixies Album download? But it doesn't matter on RB, because it's on the disc? That's what I heard.

Hello.

As far as the free DLC content for RB2, Harmonix states on their website that previously purchased DLC for RB1 will work in RB2:

- Backwards compatibility with Rock Band downloadable music content. All previously purchased tracks will immediately load into your Rock Band 2 song list. No need to re-purchase or re-download.

Peace,
Rolando
Does anyone know if they have said you'd be able to use the same characters?
Severely hoping so. Also hoping to carry over all the scores/Gold Stars from the first game, so they don't have to be re-earned.

Clothes and money, I can do without. I don't mind earning those all over again, but my Gold Stars are my BABIES

X-Play said that RockBand wont have make your own music thing.

If RB2 has AC/DC they might also put out AC/DC DLC. Thunderstruck:drool:

Metallica isn't GH exclusive then?
X-Play said that RockBand wont have make your own music thing.
In my opinion I don't think the create a song thing is going to be that great. It will be cool but I don't think it will be that easy to make a song that actually sound like another song or a good original song. I expect a few people to be really good at creating songs and those people will be the main source of downloaded created songs. And plus they can't have vocals and that is a disappointment to me.

While I applaud GH for doing something new, create a song is not enough to get me to say forget RB I want GH. If GH4 is compatible with RB1 equipment then I will buy it game only but probably not at launch. RB2 on the other hand will be a launch buy because I'm satisfied more with RB1 than GH3 (still an excellent game).

Nope, not an exclusive deal and doesn't change anything as far as the license is concerned.

Which is good news, for those of us still looking forward to "Fuel" coming out for DLC someday.

I would concurrently shit and piss myself (twice over, probably) if there were more AC/DC available at a later date.

I agree. The song making thing is cool but I don't find it a buying point for me. I also hope the game is compatible with the RB peripherals cause I'd buy it then.
I downloaded both RHCP songs and I can't beat Snow. I can beat GGaHT and the Mettallica songs, but I can't beat fucking Snow.
Snow is fucking EVIL.

I was so glad to find out it was a Tier 9 on guitar, so my constant failing at 50% doesn't make me feel so bad.

Is it really a 9? that's off the chain! My roommate will be pleased. He's been chomping at the bit for tier 9's since he's gold-starred 80% of the game, including fucking Blackened.

$27 without sticks or kick pedal. So go from there
