RPG Thread IX is a steaming pile of pointless monologue. Just Youtube the ending!

I liked ToV a lot, though I've never been a huge fan of the Tales battle system. I'll never turn my nose up at a quality JRPG though.

I had a few problem with ToV... sadly they have all been fixed in the PS3 version that we'll never see over here.

Yeah, that's real shame. Not because the 360 version is incomplete or inadequate, but just because the game should have had as wide an audience as possible.

Note how outside of Demon's Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, and Lost Odyssey almost everyone's favorite RPG this gen isn't an original IP. I think my favorite RPG this gen was probably Dragon Age, so we can add it to that very short list.

Does the DS count as this gen or is it too old? Well, I am going with TWEWY solely because I don't have an Xbox to play ToV. I've played a small bit with a friend, but that doesn't really count. ;)

If the DS counts, add Etrian Odyssey to it =P If Infinite Space counts, add that as well.

Too bad I doubt there'd be an Infinite Space 2.

Honestly though, they rank as high on my list as FF4/FF6/FF7/FFTA/Seiken Densetsu 2+3/Lufia 1+2.

Not sure whether you'd consider SMT: Devil Survivor a "new IP", though I'd add that to the list. One of the best RPGs I've played this gen.

So, who's got some RPG wishlists for E3? (All of us I assume)

Semi-realistic: Nintendo announces Last Story, Xenoblade coming to America. Some details on Dragon Quest X.

Will happen, but not at E3: Atlus announces Persona 5 for PS3 (they'd announce that in Japan).

Never happen in a million years pipe dream: Suikoden VI (yeah right)

Mass Effect 3 blowout including full squad roster! Probably too early for that though. If they can at least confirm Jack for the squad, and show us her new look, I'd be a happy man.

I'd love to see some substantial DLC, maybe even an expansion disc, announced for Dragon Age II.

Last Story and Xenoblade (maybe even Earth Seeker) for NA would be fantastic.

Last Story will probably be announced. Not sure about Xenoblade.

Most everything I would want to see made would be announced in Japan first.

Only possible things are if Atlus announces the Sting games for release here (Gungnir, Blaze Union, Gloria Union). I think Totori was already announced.

That's exactly what I want too. (mainly Last Story) :bouncy:

As well as a new traditional RPG on HD consoles, but that's wishful thinking.

I need Xenoblade announced at E3. From all accounts, it's vastly superior to Last Story.

I don't think there's anyway Persona 5 would be a PS3 game at this point. PSP is where it's at in Japan right now.

They won't be able to fit a complete Persona 5 game on the PSP. Didn't they have to nerf some of Persona 3 for the portable version?

I used to think this as well, but Persona 5 is gonna sell in Japan no matter what system they put it on.

SMT 4 for PS3 please.

Also I'd like to see Tales of Xilia or whatever it's called for PS3... also no good exclusive JRPGs for 360 because I don't want to hook it back up.

Also I guess I want to see some Modern Warfare 3 mutliplayer gameplay. I don't care about Zelda Skyward Sword anymore, I figure it will feature mostly puzzles and too little action.

If they can put all those Atelier games and stuff like Ar tonelico and Hyperdimension Neptunia on PS3 and make a profit, than so can a Persona sequel. I just hope it would show up on 360 too, like Catherine.
I just hope it would show up on 360 too, like Catherine.
I would expect that it would be, I think Catherine is a strong indicator that it will be multi-plat if it indeed is on home consoles.

They dont need to announce any new games, just bring over Japanese games that are out or coming out. Tales of the Last Promise, Criminal Gril, Dragon Quest Joker 2, and Valkyria Chronicles III to name a few

I disagree, I think Persona 5 will probably be a multiplatform title.
I don't want P5 set in high school though
Why not? Certainly has worked pretty well for the rest of the series. I'm not saying it would have to be set in a high school, but I've never really had a problem with it.

i thought lufia 1 sucked

hahah =)

Granted that 2 was loads better, I thought the story of 1 was better, if nothing else.
I'm not even sure if I want Catherine. It looks like a PSP game :whistle2:#
I mainly want Catherine because of the unique and mature subject matter it appears to tackle.
I used to think this as well, but Persona 5 is gonna sell in Japan no matter what system they put it on.
Maybe, but I think it's gonna sell a lot more on the PSP.
Maybe, but I think it's gonna sell a lot more on the PSP.
As was pointed out upthread, they're going to be seriously crimping the game if they put it on PSP. Persona 3 needed to be scaled back to fit on a UMD (though it was still great) and I've read that they won't do a P4 port because of space issues. Moving the series to the PSP would be a huge step back rather than forward. That doesn't mean they won't do it, but I think now that Team Persona has an HD title under their belt, the odds are much better than not that it will be on the home consoles. I really hope I'm right.
I don't want P5 set in high school though
What's the alternative? College?

Well I guess a Persona game doesn't have to involve a school to have all the social stuff, it can just as well be people who work in an office.

Yeah, let's do that.
That actually sounds awesome.
Agreed. Even College might be interesting, but may be too close to P3/P4's high school. I think one of the best parts of the Persona games is the look into Japanese culture through the social links, and maybe the whole Japanese businessmen culture could be explored or something else entirely.

I haven't finished either Persona 3 or 4 yet... Got like 25 hours into P3 and maybe 5 hours into P4. I actually had to take a break from P4 because the spiral effect when you enter TV world was giving me headaches and motion sickness, which I've never had a problem with in any game before. But I am determined to get Chie into bed, even if I have to fight through the pain.

You should give it another try, just close your eyes when they enter the TV world. Persona 4 is, in my opinion, the best RPG on the PS2. I'm currently doing a real-time playthrough of it (since it takes place in 2011), although it's torture at times to only be able to play about 5 minutes a day.

Because allowing more people to enjoy the game is a terrible thing.

I presume the boo is because it's not coming to PS3 as well (?). Which if true is too bad, the more the merrier. But at least one console is better than none.

Yeah, I'm a bit surprised they aren't releasing it on both consoles. It's too bad for PS3-only owners. As an owner of both consoles, I'm glad I can at least play it now though. I wonder how many discs it might take up...
