I never thought I'd say this...

I HATED the Miz back in those lame-ass "hoo-rah" days, however his last two weeks of promos on RAW have been absolutely fantastic IMO. I still don't know about him in singles wrestling, but those promos grabbed my attention like nothing has in some time.
Yeah. I didn't catch all of RAW but I did see the Miz and I was impressed. The shot about Cena being a manufactured product designed to sell t-shirts to kids and give their cougar moms someone to swoon over was awesome.

I was actually bummed when Big Show came out and laid the beating on Cena, I wanted the Miz to do it.

While I was watching it I was thinking about Myke's question about the last promo that felt 'real'. My current answer to that question might be "Miz' promo from last night".

Speaking of Cena...

I think this angle with Show is a last ditch effort to turn Cena-haters around. During that beat down there were a lot more people getting behind Cena than there has been in a long time. I think if they can turn him into a sympathetic firgure now, and have come back with a bit of a harder edge (less smiling and pandering to fans) due to Show, it could work.

I'll agree. I was grading papers and doing some lovely roller-derby paperwork stuff all last night (can I call it a 15-hour workday if I do it from home lying on the floor in front of the telly while Raw is playing?). I looked up a few times - when I heard Miz call out Cena as being manufactured is absolutely one of them. The crowd seemed to applaud it, too.

The thing about a masterful heel is to not let them clap for you, though. I don't recall if Miz did enough to turn the crowd away from him after he reeled them in by talking about Cena.

In the end, however, the whole segment (the WHOLE segment, which started with the singing contest) was to build to Cena/Show - so I get the feeling that, while Miz cut a promo that managed to grab my attention last night, he's in the same spot that Santino Marella was when he was talking smack about Steve Austin's shitty, shitty movie. Miz is going to be unceremoniously buried by Cena in 4 minutes between now and Judgment Day.

I was actually bummed when Big Show came out and laid the beating on Cena, I wanted the Miz to do it.

Miz shouldn't beat down Cena at his (Cena's) best - but in the shape he was in last night, it would have been easier to do. But, remember, they're not selling you Miz versus anybody. They're selling you Cena versus Show, and Miz is the middleman whose feud w/ Cena is going to end in fewer than 14 days. After that, he'll probably move onto Kofi Kingston through the next two months.

That's my guess, at any rate.

While I was watching it I was thinking about Myke's question about the last promo that felt 'real'. My current answer to that question might be "Miz' promo from last night".

I was impressed with it, but it didn't feel real to me in hindsight. I think it's because the segment showed to us that Miz is peripheral to the whole angle, and therefore disposable as a cast member of the show. He was merely a conduit to get Cena onstage. They could have accomplished that using only Show.

Does the WWE not allow food at arenas? I'm always wondering why people throw shit into the ring at nearly every WCW taping I see. I think it's good, it helps convey heat.

Instead of just playing himself, Gregory Helms needs to go back to his Hurricane alter ego, Ace Reporter Gregory Helms, while he's at the bottom of the totem pole as backstage reporter for ECW.

If he can't be more boring than Josh Matthews or whatever Diva of the minute they pick to interview wrestlers normally, he might as well be more entertaining and take control of the interview.

Well, there's also the aspect that he semi-took on the "Hurricane" persona when he returned for 45 seconds or so last year. I never saw him when he returned, but he wrestled as "Hurricane Helms." Without the corny superhero stuff, I think.

Yeah, his attire was just some long shorts with the Hurricane logo on them and kind of the same kind of face attitude. That's about all I remember of his brief return.

I saw Myke's post from last week about wanting to see the breakdown on how much of the hour and 30 minute show (two hours minus the ~30 minutes of commercials) is made of actual matches and other crap, so I did a quick tally of time spent on each match or major event on last Friday's Smackdown along with how long entrances were and how much screen time each wrestler, diva, or general manager were on screen. Dang. Thanks for the breakdown, Frisky.

I knew WWE was pretty wrestling-anemic, but I'm surprised to see entrances were only 11 minutes of an 85-minute program, so b/w 10-15% of the show on entrances is less than I'd expect.

Ugh... Tyson Kidd lost again. It was his first singles loss, but he's jobbed to Evan Bourne 3 times and has lost 4 of his last 5 matches.

Also, it's funny that Tiffany had to tell us it was Zack Ryder. I didn't even recognize him, and I like the guy. His style kind of reminded me of my friends in Attitude Inc. They're not wearing purple in the picture, but Danny, the guy on the left, usually does wear purple like Ryder was tonight:

Yep, I posted the same thing at this board and a whole 1 other message board. I guess this answers the question of, "What is YKRG's name at CAG?" I still don't know why you feel the need to constantly be a dick, though. What have I ever done to you? Maybe I'll just ban you over at TSM for the hell of it. :p

It appears like they're finally setting Kidd up to add DH Smith to the group, so him losing at the moment makes sense.

I considered that, but Finlay has no partner to combat the potential faction, and there's no point in debuting any tag teams (New Foundation or Finlay/O'Shaunessy) on a show with no tag belts.

I believe they already said Carlito/Primo can travel with their unified belts. . Not to mention they could get a few weeks out of Bourne/Finlay teaming up.

*Edit: whoops just saw that you mentioned Sheamus already.* - it's late and Giant Bombcast is distracting me

UNIFIED Tag Team Championship. ie; they're the champs for all 3 brands.

Still wish we had a Undisputed Champion again. Having 2 world belts worked when you had 2 shows and the roster depth. Now we have THREE World Champs and like 1/3rd the roster size. I say keep the ECW title seperate, but combine the Raw & SD! belts. That way there's one Undisputed top guy, and a midcard title on each brand.

I'd like to see Jericho go for the huge ego boost of taking all three titles (WWE, World Heavyweight, and ECW) in one night at a pay per view again.

They unified the Raw and Smackdown tag team championships. I didn't think ECW was included.

ECW probably would've been included if they had 3 sets of Tag-Team belts to begin with.

Too bad he can't beat The Rock and Austin in the same night again for said titles.

Well, this time he'd have to beat Cena and HHH. Of course, the cynic in me says HHH wouldn't let that happen, so it'd be Bob Backlund and Doink the Clown in a triple threat. Then lose the title to HHH 24 hours later in a feud involving Aurora Levesque's pet kitten.

So they'd put the straps on Backlund and Doink?

BTW I haven't been watching wrestling for a while, what's CM Punk doing? I think that since he's been a WWE World Heavyweight Champion TNA will finally give a shit about him and want to hire him for millions of dollars.

So.. I was at Smackdown last night, here:s the results:

Main event was a tag match, Edge and Orton vs. Cena and Batista.
I want to say Jericho beat Hardy, but all hell broke loose at the end of the match, and I can't remember who won
Cryme Tyme did an arm wrestling borefest with Eve and Layla
Michelle McCool beat Gail Kim. Alicia Fox was with her
Khali got his ass beat by Dolph Ziggler
Morrison beat Charlie Haas

It was really good live actually, but I have a feeling you guys won't like it when you see it Friday.

I bet the figure for entrance times would have been much higher a couple months ago!

There's a lot of footage of the NWO on youtube right now, including some of the Rodman and Leno fights, but you have to be in the nWo 4 Life to see it.

Actually, I'm realizing now how ridiculous the nWo was. It went from heat to just circlejirks, to me. There are some spots where clearly it probably would've been better to develop a face instead of just more n dubya o. Every single feasible opponent for the NWO joined the damned NWO or got burried. It's ridiculous.

BTW, that's proof that Stone Cold can get anything over, shit.

Best wrestling on T.V., right there.

Flair's promo was pretty shitty, by Flair standards. I watched it on HDNet the other day.

After briefly holding the Intercontinental Championship, CM Punk won Money in the Bank again this year (he used it to win the WHC last year) and then proceeded to move on to Backlash to job to Kane for no apparent reason. He then cleanly pinned World Champion Edge last week on Smackdown, and was attacked by Umaga, with whom he will presumably feud (and lose).

Some potentially very good news:
- Chris Jericho has requested a lengthy program with Rey Mysterio and will have a creative hand in putting the feud together. Rey’s mask will be incorporated into the angle because of the reaction they got after Jericho “accidently” unmasked Mysterio on the European tour.
I have been dying for a Jericho/Mysterio program ever since Mysterio came to WWE. Their feud in WCW made me a huge fan of both men. Jericho in WCW was the shit.

I think he can. The matches won't be as flashy, but while Jericho's style is different now, he's actually a better all around wrestler. As for Mysterio, some say he's washed up, but I disagree. Given the right opponent(s), he can go better than most guys on the roster. See the #1 contender's 4 way on Smackdown for the most recent example of that.

Jericho vs. Rey will hopefully get people over the age of 8 to give a shit about Rey again.

I like that they're wasting no time in getting feuds started up post-draft. Jericho/Rey, Jeff/Edge & MVP/Regal should all produce some entertaining matches. I hope they won't bullshit MVP/Regal out of a whole match like they did with Regal/Punk though.

HDNet has approved ROHBrazil to upload the RoH show to Youtube every Wednesday after it airs on Saturday. It's been ongoing for a few weeks now. A lot of people don't have access to HDNet so this is a good way to watch the show and still support it with views instead of using torrents. The show gets uploaded in segments throughout the day so it's usually in the evening before it's completely available.

If you're tired of watching 3 minute, lame-ass matches on TV then watch this show, particularly the main event from 4/25 beteween Bryan Danielson and Tyler Black, an incredible match.

Jericho used to be so awesome in WCW, I'm not really digging him in WWE. Remeber Ralphus? Also Jericho had a fuckin awesome match with Raven at one of the Halloween Havoks.

And on the ROH note, they have some pretty good matches - but the ring looks way too bouncy, almost like a trampoline and some of the guys there just scream out INDY way too much.

I read this yesterday and don't think anyone posted it, so here ya go:

Hardcore Holly Issues Threat To WWE Star Over Backstage Incident
Written by Ryan Clark on May 05, 2009 at 13:56:54
There are 0 comments on this post. Be the first to add one!

RF Video recently conducted a shoot interview with former WWE wrestler Hardcore Holly and he holds nothing back while discussing his 15-year tenure in the company.

Perhaps the most notable portion of the interview concerns Holly's explanation for being let from World Wrestling Entertainment back in January. He has some choice words for a certain wrestler in the company to say the least — that person being Raw Superstar Mr. Kennedy. Holly believes Kennedy is responsible for his ultimate release from the company and is angry with him to this day, so much so that he issues a personal threat to him during the interview.

Courtesy of RFVideo.com, here is a synopsis of what you can expect to hear from Holly concerning his issue with Kennedy in the shoot interview:

"I got a call from Bob today when he was boarding his plane and he told me what he wanted to talk about on the shoot. He asked me point blank can he say what ever he wants and I told him that this is his day. This would be his platform to do what ever he wanted. He went off on a 5 minute promo on how he wants to beat the hell out of Ken Kennedy on the phone and told me about his major heat with him. This is not a work at all and on the interview, Bob goes into what happened to get these two once best friends into a bitter battle. You will hear right from the mouth of Bob, how Kennedy told Bob to go into his bag and get something out of it for himself. I do not want to get to graphic here because it makes the shoot. You have to watch this as soon as you can, as Bob sends a private message to Ken on this tape. I would not want to be in the shoes of Mr. Kennedy"

Here is another synopsis on the subject, noting Holly making a threat "that is sure to get the WWE's attention":

"The highlight of this interview is Bob talking about his WWE release. How did someone once so close to the boss get released? Bob sends a clear message to a current WWE superstar and calls him out by name. What is this wrestler's culpability in Bob's firing? Bob will tell you a story that will shock even his biggest detractors. No names are protected and nobody is innocent as Bob makes a threat that is sure to get the WWE's attention. What happened between Bob and his former friend? You will hear about it all from the horse's mouth in this classic RF Video Shoot Interview."

Reportedly, Holly was caught stealing pain pills from another wrestler's bag this past summer, hence his sudden disappearance from television. He was immediately taken off the road, sent to a rehabilitation facility, and ultimately released

"I would not want to be in the shoes of Mr. Kennedy"
Because I'm sure Bob Holly is going to track him down and beat his ass. Then again, if Kennedy suddenly disappeared, would anyone notice? If not that, then what's the threat? "I have evidence of (big WWE star) using drugs" or something? Whoop-de-doo.

Furthermore, HOW DO YA LIKE ME NOW?
