SOCOM: Confrontation *General Discussion Thread*

One thing they did really well is the sound. The way it changes depending on so many things is really great. I really hope they do fix all these network problems.
Come on...someone get a review out. I wanna see if this is worth a pick-up or not.
I would say the earliest I expect a IGN review would be Friday, and even then it may be early next week.

Yeah the sound system is pretty good. I had a hard time pinpointing gunfire because of the way the sound "moved" around buildings and such. I always found it unrealistic in other shooters when you knew where the other players were, even halfway across the map, just by them firing a round. This takes more patients/practice, which made the experience seem more intense.

Unless copies were shipped to stores early, I doubt it'll be in shops today. Today is just the ship way, we'll see it in on Wednesday.

Yeah looks like I jumped the gun. Walmart had it in stock but I have credit at GS and BestBuy and neither had them for sale yet.
Just picked it up from GS. Mic is sweet!!!
I thought it came with a stand that charged it.......

how is the game so far? I am on the fence about htis one.

Yes it comes with a stand for charging and to use as a desktop mic. Pairing was as simple as plugging it in to the USB port.

The game is awesome, although it still has a couple flaws which will surely be fixed soon. I have not experienced any of the Beta problems so far

Above and beyond anything I have ever used. It even comes with a different sized rubber washer thing in case the first one doesnt fit.
What the trophies like? I don't think I've seen a list out for them yet.
No trophy support at launch. Nor matchmaking. A bunch of features they were talking about didnt make it in time. Trophy Support and Home support both on the box though

my shit from amazon just shipped today via prime, so I guess I'll see it Friday. If the beta issues are gone I may keep it. If not off to ebay. headset is def keeps.

Will there be a CAG clan?
I never played previous SOCOM games so have a lot of catching up to do!
Cant wait to pick it up Friday.

I dig that they've patched it so soon, but man, finally installing the game and waiting to play only to be greeted by another download and install is a bit tiresome.

But yes, as long as the game is fun I won't further complain.

anyone else getting "Failed to login to server"?
My PS3 is reporting NAT 2 and I'm not seeing any denied connections on the outside of my firewall.

I put up a temporary CAG clan, still need to change the emblem and message but i wanted to play. Feel free to apply

Just logged in with no problems. Servers are probably getting slammed

Deleted all game data, reinstalled and got in the first time. Just my experience but I had been trying for an hour and a half before that working on the assumption that it was a network issue on my side.

Jesus, my headset finished charging while waiting for everything to download and install. I just want to play some SOCOM: Confrontation, PS3.

Anybody find a review for this online? I'm intrigued, but I've never played any SOCOM game before, so I'd like to see a review before I buy. What does it compare to? Rainbox Six: Vegas?

I wonder if all reviews are under embargo until the 16th, when it goes up on PSN.

I have yet to get onto the servers! It would be nice if we could get a look at the maps and set up our gear while waiting, but nothing can be done.
update: I finally got in, set everything up and now I am sitting in a lobby waiting for something to happen.
Keep trying man. It took like 15mins for me then like 10 minutes waiting in the lobby. But I am finally playing again
Fifteen minutes? You're lucky. I spent around 45 minutes trying to connect to a game. I tried all sorts of servers, but nope. I had fun the few times I played, but fuck, it's not fun if I can't play. :bomb::bomb::bomb:

Only played one or two games so far but it's been really fun, especially since I was big into the first two SOCOM games. Haven't used the new headset yet since it was still charging so I was using my old school SOCOM headset, haha. If not tonight, I'll definitely be playing a lot Thursday and Friday since I'm off. Also had some problems earlier with the fail to login to the server error, though it was fine when I first got on.

Has anyone figured out how to use the headset as a desktop mic while in the charging cradle?

BTW the maps in this game are outstanding

UPDATE
Posted by Seth Luisi

Due to the tremendous launch of SOCOM Confrontation and large number of
simultaneous players connecting, we are experiencing some server load
issues. We are aware of the current server issues and we are actively
looking into them. We will have these issues resolved as soon as possible.

Regards,

SOCOM: Confrontation Online Team

I dunno, it just seems like there's so much of the SOCOM controls that are unused vestiges of a single player game. Most of the time players run around with assault rifles and SMGs, there's not much use for HMGs or other medium to long range weapons.

I suppose it felt too much like Counter Strike for my tastes.

Sounds like this is a mess. I considered the PSN version since I'd like a good multiplayer shooter on PS3..

Guess Free Online isn't always better?

Eh, there are many other games on the PSN that are also free and have no troubles. CoD4 runs flawlessly online for example.

This is more a case of pushing a game out the door to meet a deadline before the game was done. SOCOM had to release alongside the Bluetooth headset. Unfortunately, that didnt give them enough time to integrate the fixes from the beta or fix the SOCOM servers.

well compared to the beta it is greatly improved. But there are still problems.

Starting it up for the first time (after the mandatory install) I got an error about corrupt player data. This was fixed by deleted the beta stuff. Then I couldn't connect to the servers at all till I turned off my new badass bluetooth headset???? After that I was able to connect to a game and play about 8 rounds. I kept getting an error saying that I can't save any player data over and over again.
At around 10 pm central time I couldn't connect to any of the servers so I just quit.
Tonight and this weekend will be the real test to see if the servers can handle it.
