Sony E3 Press Conference Discussion - Price & Date Revealed!

First:

I walk in the door, turn on my computer, and my friend tells me the costs, causing me to laugh. Then he asks me what the controllers include, and obviously I correctly guess motion detection. I love Sony.

As far as Sony losing: losing can be measured in market share. They don't have to go bankrupt to lose. If they drop under 40-50% market share, that's losing. Right now they're around... 55% or so in the US, much larger in Japan. I honestly don't want Sony to go bankrupt, I want them in the game; I just want a more even playing field so everyone wins.

And finally, the number of 360s sold on eBay probably numbered in the tens of thousands (I know shortly after launch it was around 10-20k). The total number of 360s sold last I saw was like 1.2 million. That's a tiny fraction of people spending outrageous amounts.

the controller is dissapointing mainly because they kept the damn primary analog in the same place. They really should have shifted it up like the xbox.... So much better for FPS

Did Sony do ANYTHING for the PSP? Announced a LONG overdue Greatest hits program...and what, a 2 minute PS1 on PSP demo? That it?

There's always next Gen...something else for Sony to copy.

Thank God they didnt. Not everyone plays FPS games, and IMO the way the PS3 controller is now is more than fine. Sony will have much more different types of games on the PS3, so instead of making it a controller good for one type of game they made it a controller good for all types....

Speaking of better controls for FPS, wait till tomorrow morning at 9:30 Pacific ;)

I really don't see how putting the analog shifted up is disadvantage for any type of 3d game where you primarily use that stick.............

I have to work!!! Ahh! What will I do? Someone needs to e-mail me the specs.

You could hand your phone number off to someone and someone could use online SMS stuff to send you a text message from the net
You could hand your phone number off to someone and someone could use online SMS stuff to send you a text message from the net
and that message could simply say "Wii is teh uberz"

What was Afrika exactly?

And I like the PS3 controller. It is a perfect blend of innovation and evolution. They ripped off Nintendo yes, but they were more conservative. I also like all of these announced games. MGS4, Warhawk, Virtua Fighter, Tekken, and a ton of other games. PS3 will be good, but I will wait for a price drop.

I said it would cost no less than $500 and look.

I wasn't interested in a PS3 before this and there is no way I am interested now. It will be a hell of a long time before I consider getting what amounts to a Wii 360 that plays blue-ray movies that I don't give a shit about because I am not going to rebuy all of my movies.

I'm sure the fanboys will buy the PS3, but how many regular people will buy? How many moms are gonna by their kids a $600 videogame machine?

Apparently the $500 system does not seem come with HDMI (so much for TRUE HD 1080p), nor does it come with WiFi, nor does it come with MemoryStick/Compactflash/SD slots.
This is an awesome point.

In a world where people were paying $800 for a 360, people will definately drop $500 on this, and will probably be paying a grand on Ebay for it.
People will pay $500 but it's definitely questionable whether people cam resell them for a grand on ebay. The 360 sold double because it was cheaper. With the PS3 starting at $500 already, there may be a few people buying at $1000 but that shouldn't be the norm.
Clearly Sony isn't aiming for the folks here at CHEAPASSGAMER. You may not want to shell out $500 or $600, but plenty of others will.
I think this is the wisest thing said yet in this forum.

I'll pass for sure, but others won't. Sony will make an absolute killing.

Wow... I never thought Sony could pull such a bonehead move, but, sure, why not?

- Price yourself well above a system that was already viewed to be expensive.
- 1/2 assedly copy a competeors controller design, yet don't actually adapt the controller to take advantage of its new ability.
- Have karaoke be a main selling point of your machine.

Wow... just wow.
Good idea... What time is the MS Confrence?
I'll do it if you want, i'll be watching it in the morning, just PM the phone number
Well this made my decision for the next generation much easier. To get the 360 or the Wii???
Get both of them for the price of a 60 GB PS3. ;)
People were/are hesitant buying the 360 at $400, so what makes you think people will pick this up at $600?
Yes, but the 360 is still using last generation DVD technology. fuck the 360. Add-ons are for sex toys. $600 for the whole package is awesome. I am not saying i will get one day 1, but I want too. A machine that utilizes next gen DVD format for a higher price, or a high priced PC with a promise of an add-on of inferior technology. Blu-ray>HD-DVD.

Correction, sony will be KILLED. Console sales = loss of money for them. They've gotta move software before they'll make that killing, and they have to get games on the system worthy of a purchase.

Link?
They also removed the rumble feature to fit in the motion sensing parts.
And by a court order!

But how many people would pay $600 for a 360 with a HD-DVD? Now how many people will pay an extra $200 6-9 months later for a HD-DVD? Many. Add-ons rock.

*honk* *can't land* *one guy claps and "woo hoos"* *snake commits suicide*

in any case, i'm pre-ordering tomorrow. not making the same mistake as last time. even if i don't deem it worthy of owning at $500, it'll be a win win situation.

Afrika was a giraffe leaf-eating sim.

My video feed blacked out for a while. Did they actually say that there is no rumble?

and that'll make it the same price as a PS3 premium, but with an add on that won't take advantage of the extra power and only play dvds.
and that'll make it the same price as a PS3 premium, but with an add on that won't take advantage of the extra power and only play dvds.
...at the 360's current price. But I'd gladly pay that for a format that has a better chance at being around 2 years down the road.

The good thing about add-ons is that you DONT HAVE TO BUY THEM. I just want a gaming machine, I dont want a "complete home entertainment solution"
How many people think Nintendo will announce the price and date of the Wii tomorrow?
I do, both Nintendo and Sony have known well and have been ready to announce it for quite some time. They've just been playing a little waiting game with each other.

Before today, it was rumored that neither Sony or Nintendo would have price or date. It is crucial that they come in tomorrow with a console that is a full half price.
Correction, sony will be KILLED. Console sales = loss of money for them. They've gotta move software before they'll make that killing, and they have to get games on the system worthy of a purchase.
Doesn't matter - they will sell systems, largely due to their loyal fanbase. On top of that, because people are shilling out that kinda coin, they will, undoubtedly, buy games to justify the purchase.

Plus there are so many people out there that geek over stuff like Tekken 6 (!!) or a new Final Fantasy or whatever. The sequels will sell, whether we like it or not.
How many people think Nintendo will announce the price and date of the Wii tomorrow?
For sure. Any guesses? How about November 3, and $199, with a $249 package for all virtual console games?

RD
How many people think Nintendo will announce the price and date of the Wii tomorrow?
Probably. It will make the price look a lot better after hearing the $500 ps3 announcement.
....and it was one of the best PC/MAC titles of the 90's. What's you're point? Who wants to play Mavis Beacon when MARIO can teach them. What a LAME comeback.
it was a joke asshat
Did Sony do ANYTHING for the PSP? Announced a LONG overdue Greatest hits program...and what, a 2 minute PS1 on PSP demo? That it?
They used it as a fucking rear-view mirror for Ridge Racer PS3.
How many people think Nintendo will announce the price and date of the Wii tomorrow?
Honestly, I would have been surprised before about seeing a price. I don't know why they wouldn't release a date other than wanting to do them at the same time. But now after the $500-$600 bomb, if they come in at $200 max, they would get a serious high off of that.

I need to get up early and pack a lunch and a few cans of pop so I can get in early and get work taken care of so I can have a leisurely lunch attempting to listen to their conference.

I'm glad the 360 doesn't include HD DVD support (since now I know that will be my second console thanks to Sony); I'm not going for HD DVD or Blu Ray, but the smartest idea would be getting a standalone combo (BD and HD) player, which will have to exist at some point. No way I'm spending hundreds of dollars on a format that has a chance of dying out very quickly.

One thing is for sure, Sony is giving the competition the biggest chance imaginable to steal their market share. It's up to Microsoft and Nintendo to take advantage.
Look at what people were paying for the 360, more than double of what it costs, do you seriously think that the PS3 being $500 will make people not buy it?
Yeah, but that was a miniscule percentage of the overall gaming population that did that. The vast majority of gamers have either waited for them to become more readily available or haven't bought one yet.

The PS3 will not be able to support itself by this current price point. Paying $400 is the brink of what I think most people are willing to dish out for a console.

Name another system that's been priced higher than $400 at launch and has been successful. Please do it.

I wish that gamespot would start to stream it. On their site it says it would be up at 7:00, but that has come and past. Poo, I want to see it.

Anywhere else you guys know of that is showing it? And yes, I know it is over.
