YES but those have either Sold Out or were pulled by Reatilers

So no way you can find one
COD4 at some point in time was the most played game on live beating out Halo 3. I'm glad that the PS3 is 300 that way if I ever need a replacement, I can buy a new one.. (instead of having to pay 400/500).
Why the hell would you pay $300 for a replacement when you could just ship the broken one to Sony for $150? Unless the PS3 suddenly drops to $200 or under, it makes no sense to go out and buy a new one to replace a broken system when the repair cost would be less than a new one.

That is unless you're impatient and can't go without a PS3 for 2 weeks or so.

As for me, I gotta ask: Why the fuck didn't Sony go with the matte finish on the fat model PS3's? The shiny, shiny black finish shows every spec of dust and every scratch.
unboxing

http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/18/playstation-3-slim-unboxing-and-hands-on/
I guess it might be worth pointing out some info that was confirmed in that unboxing, along with a few other articles.

1. CONFIRMED: The hard drive is removable and presumably swappable. As expected, the unboxing pictures above shows that the front panel portion is indeed removable, revealing the HDD bay. The infamous blue screw that secures the HDD is under a small cover on the bottom of the console.

2. The power supply is internal. The unboxing pictures above show that includes a power cord with no brick.

3. The SCEE press release confirms that the "Install Other OS" option (i.e. Linux) has been removed. A minor nick, but still a removal nonetheless. The press release also mentions the "Bravia Sync" feature (Might be of interest if you own a Bravia HDTV) and that the Slim will ship with firmware 3.0.

4. 1up posted a video of Kaz's announcement:

I heard that After Microsoft drops its price, Sony Plans to drop the Price of the Slim to $249.99 By Christmas or when the FAT 80GB are gone.

So I might wait.

$249.99 Believe

Hold your breathe while your at it ;)

Woohoo, maybe when the market gets flooded with used PS3s I'll be able to find a fully backwards compatible one for a steal from some poor sap.

Wow...I almost want to sell my 60GB BC to get this. I probably could get close to $300 for it on EBAY. Although, I currently have a 320GB HDD. One thing I am curious about, can I do a backup of my 60GB system and then do a restore on the new SLIM?

WOOOT!! buddy at Walmart says he is holding a

MGS4 KillZone 2 80GB Bundle for me $299

WHAT SHOULD I DOOO??

- at least the fat can play Super Audio CD's and Linux.

But I really want a Slim Arrrrgh!

I'm in the same boat (minus the HDD upgrade). I'm pretty sure you can as long as you have a device that has sufficeint storage space to hold the backup data. If I can get enough $$$ for my old system I wouldn't mind snagging a slim.
It does help sony... in the fact that if someone has a system that breaks on them it at least may have them consider a PS3. Its more likely that people may try the PS3 because its a viable option (due to the cheaper price tag). Plus MS has bad customer service (according to the same study) which can also get people to switch. The problem in the past was that the ps3 option was too price. Hopefully, these Slim PS3 will lower that 10 percent rate.
I've never had a problem with MS customer service, both my 360 RROD's took a little over a week to receive a replacement. Of course it's not normal to have a system break twice in 4 years but their customer service has been nothing but top notch to me. Plus most of us own 20+ 360 games, I'm not going to be without a 360. Taking the time to sell all my 360 games and then rebuy most of them on the PS3 just doesn't seem feasible to me, not to mention the amount of XBLA and DLC I have bought that are not transferable between 360-PS3.

After saying that, I have considered buying a second 360 for my bedroom. With the slim at $300 I will consider getting that for my bedroom rather then a second 360.

I wasn't sure if the filesystem was different with the 60GB moving to a slim...that was my dilemma. I would like one though. Willing to sell the 60GB PS3 here (I can throw the original drive back in though).

Hmmm...what to do. I wish I had more Blockbuster credit...down to $70.

Go down to WM, kick your "buddy" in the junk, grab a snickers bar, and head back home.

I gotcha. That's a good question. Do you think Blockbuster is going to offer pre-orders on the slim? I think I still have $150 left there. If they did that would be a great way to use up the rest of it.

You're not getting my point. You said that Halo 3 and Gears 2 are old news. I'm saying that those two games get more play than even Call of Duty 4 and World at War on the PSN. I know damn well that Call of Duty 4 still blows everything away but it's not like we can compare Halo and Gears with PSN games.

myke, when ya starting Haze?
$299 slims available in the next couple weeks. Price cuts to tide us over until they hit the shelves.
Ahack..ehem... NAILED IT!

Granted the writing was pretty much on the wall.

What a joke....he doesn't knowhow to take the HDD out. nice unboxing.

Nevermind, Sony must have said...agghhh....tell him before people revolt.

He corrected himself at the end

WTF? I did not realize Chris Roper was that ugly...

Side note...is Sony REALLY that cheap to not include at least Component cables? They couldn't afford the extra 10 cents or whatever per box?

I heard rumors that MS is going to start including composite cables only too...even more shame on them.

I'm slightly pissed. I bought the KZ2/MGS4 bundle from BB for $400 last month. Went to the store today, hoping to get a refund, and I'm 4 days out of the return/price match period.

I don't understand why the fat PS3 is not dropping to $249.99 or at least $279.99. Why would anyone buy a fat ps3 for the same price as a slim PS3? I don't get it. Will the slim console FINALLY include a HDMI cable? Its lame that Sony includes AV cables with such a superb Blu-Ray machine (I mean videogame console! oops!)

I wish the PS2 would drop to $79. That would encourage people to buy both consoles...

I plan on picking up a used 60GB from a local gamestop. Since all the used PS3s got a nice price drop, might be the perfect time to pick up a used PS3.

My guess is that the masses are really that clued into the Slim nor care as much as the $299 price point. For the next 2 weeks people will walk into whatever store and see a $299 PS3 and will more than likely buy it whether fat or slim.

Once the slim is out though in two weeks I'd expect maybe slight price drops on the fats or game bundling, or maybe just taken out of the channel.

Anyone else notice that the "new" PS3 Slim logo isn't THAT new?

Just sayin'.

Sigh...surely you wouldn't think I'm that retarded. Notice how I referenced the PS2 logo? Maybe that's just asking too much.

I know its new for the PS3, but a lot of people seemed to forget that the PS2 had very similar font.

The font of the PS2 logo looks the same as the font of the old PS3 logo to me:

I have a Feeling, just a hunch, that Since the Slim is $100 Cheaper its has NO BC and NO LINUX

that when and if Sony does a Firmware update to give consoles BC.

Since the SLIM can not do LINUX it will NOT be able to do BC ever.

Because I mean what is preventing it from doing LINUX??

Some thing is fishy.

I guess this is how they will justify the more Expensive FAT 160GB $399 Models and all previous models as having BC and Linux

PS3's out there right now haven't had BC for a while, and when they introduced the PS2 BC-less PS3, the number they tossed around was $24-$27. I don't know how much Linux costs, but it can't be that much.

Besides, what's the point of installing another OS on a PS3? I mean, if you're looking to run homebrew, this will probably speed up the need for hackers to crack the thing.

or they will sell an add-on drive you can plug into a usb port that will play ps2 games.

From every detail I have yes, good luck finding one though, unless you know of somewhere that has one already since everyone around me has 0 of either.

wwe I believe that the UNCHARTED 160 is correctly priced $399. The drop IS for all SKu's. Not that all SKU's are $299 though.

Im so fucking glad this went the way it did. Man would I have felt stupid if Kaz came out and said "PS3 slim? Price drop? Go fuck yourself. Now here's Barbies Pet Palace using motion controls."
