Star Wars: The Old Republic - Out now!
The updated patch notes for 1.1.5 look very nice. If same faction WZ kills count toward Ilum daily then I may never ever go back. if not, then the Republic just got a huge boost.
Ilum will die with the patch and it's their white flag on getting world pvp right. Can't wait for huttball to become a deathmatch arena where nobody is running the ball because getting kills is more important. This dev team is going nowhere fast and all the price drops at Amazon recently tell me they're hemorrhaging players faster than I thought.

Lol at that. I am sure they are doing just fine, besides MMO's don't make any real money on the initial purchase. Besides Huttball is already a death match when a team gets up by 2.

I don't think they'll make it so WZ kills count toward the Ilum daily. In a good game, a player could get the 30 kills easily, especially on Voidstar. More likely, each WZ win will add an armament or two. Or a few.

The change to medals is to help stop killfarming, so why would they introduce something else encouraging it?

And the devs don't control Amazon, so I'd say that's just Amazon wanting to sell more copies (I imagine more than a few people are buying it digitally.) Everybody is saying that the game is dying because the population is dropping after launch, which happens to EVERY MMO EVER.

Anyway, I'm happy they are making purple crystals available to the Republic. Not having them was pretty stupid before.

So I'm planning on activating SWTOR tomorrow, but then I read they are going to implement a free 7 day trial. Unfortunately you need to be invited by a current SWTOR subscriber. (details here: http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20120305 ) Soooo I was wondering if any current SWTOR subscriber would be kind enough to send me an invite tomorrow when the program goes live that way I could get a couple of free days before I activate. Send me a PM and I'll give you my email address.

EDIT: Never mind about the invite, I found someone to hook me up already!

Read what you just said...

So after the guild summit, I'm really exited about the future of SWTOR. Seems like they are really listening to the players. Honestly, all the changes that they discussed sounded awesome except some of the legacy stuff, in particular characters unlocking other class's abilities. Seems like such a thing could seriously fuck up class balance.

I'm also not a huge fan of dual specs because it seems like just another way to penalize people for not rolling a hybrid class in this game, especially because dps only classes don't do more damage than the others right now.

Does anyone have any recommendations for servers to roll on? I'd prefer a West Coast server, high population is a must, and PvE is also a must. I've done a little bit of research but with all of the new Oceanic servers a lot of people are leaving the unofficial Oceanic servers so the data is a little out of whack. So far I think I've narrowed it down to either Wall of Light or Canderous Ordo if I go Republic, or Space Slug or Canderous Ordo if I go Empire. Canderous Ordo seems to be the highest population PvE server, but it's East coast unfortunately so I don't know about picking that one since I'm on the West coast.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

They said the cross class abilities will only be usable when you have your companion out, so they won't be usable in raids or warzones so it won't effect more than just questing or open world non grouped pvp.

With those upcoming economic changes it's not clear to me whether it was good idea or bad idea that I saved up and just spent 1.5million creds on my Tier 3 speeder from the VIP area. On one hand it sounds like they are going to drop the price (ouch!) but on the other it sounds like they will be discontinuing the speeders (yipee for uniqueness).

Does anybody know if you can have more than 1 speeder of a given Tier? A buddy of mine said he had bought 2 Tier 1 speeders when he first hit Level 25 but he was only able to keep/use the last one he bought.

Never understood the point of PvE. You can still PvE on PvP servers.

I'm bias, I say you should roll on Nadd's Sarcophagus west coast PvP.

PvE servers are for players who like their MMO's boring, with no surprise fighting.

I don't understand why somebody would choose such a thing either.

Especially in a game that goes out of its way to avoid scarring events like killing each other. Seriously, there is no difference unless you're looking for a fight. I've leveled three classes to 50 and the only time I ever had world PvP was at 50 or if a Rep got extremely lost. The zones are so big at times even if you went looking, you'd probably wind up empty-handed.

I think I got jumped 5, maybe 6 times while leveling to 50. I'm not usually one for all that ganking business, but I found myself a bit disappointed that there weren't more attempts made on my life.

I hate PvP, that's why. Even getting ganked 1 time is 1 time too many. I enjoy going about my business without having to worry about PvP at all. I've played MMO's for many years, I'm well aware of the difference between PvP and PvE servers. I've played on both enough to know which I prefer.

So does anyone have any recommendations on high pop PvE servers?

For those starting out looking for high pop servers:

JekkJekkTar or something to that effect, PVE server
Swiftsure for PVP

This are both unofficial Oceanic servers so their heavy most of the time. I dont play in those, Im in Juyo a PVE server.. choosing a PVP server just means you want to gank and be ganked, really SWTOR doesnt reward ganking at all so your better off doing something fruitful like Daily quests for commendation and Warzones.

A lot of people have left or find SWTOR boring now since they made everything easy mode, in fact there is no reason to group leveling to 50 unless you want social points. Most trade skill are useless at 50 except for Biochem and recent patch basically screwed Artificers. End game PVE equipment and PVP equipment doesn't take a lot to get, basically the purple/Epic items doesn't feel epic at all.. but what makes it so awesome to play is the story.. so just consider it a single player RPG with a tacky Multiplayer component

Well now that there's zero reason to go to Ilum, 1.5 has been bittersweet. I love world PvP but Ilum was so horribly designed that I'm glad to be free of it. On the other hand, warzones are exactly as I predicted: get your four medals and if you're not winning, just give up for a faster loss. I think my average huttball time was ~5 minutes per game with 3k valor regardless of outcome, so expect everyone to be battlemaster by the weekend. Now that the next content patch is pushed to April, I suspect there will be a huge drop-off on the 20th.

I may be part of it pending what my guild feels like doing.

I think I'm ready to quit but stupid me signed up for the 6 month price because I really felt like this was going to be the next big MMO. Since WoW introduced that new scroll of resurrection, a few of my friends that quit long ago but never bought SWTOR are coming back so now I want to play with them again. One thing that WoW does well is getting people to resubscribe.

I still don`t know if I should resuscribe again, I had 40+ fps in the beta but when the official game came out, I would get random fps from 5-10 even though everything is updated. Tried everything and lurked everywhere for a fix but still couldn`t find any.

Can someone please inv me for a free 7 day pass? please pm me. thanks

I don't think you can do the 7 day pass if you have been a subscriber in the past. It has some limitations.

You cant go past your starting planet and can't level past 15.

I'm not 100% in the loop but I would stay away from the Oceanic servers. SWTOR launched there now and those servers are probably going to see a mass exodus off of them.

Haven't played since the patch (Mass Effect 3 and all), but this is hugely disappointing. I can't wait for rated warzones and revamped PVP gear so people trying to gear up for PvE won't clog up Warzones. It's gotten to the point where I take the time to ignore people that quit out of warzones so I won't have to deal with their useless asses in the future.

Seriously, why the hell do they PVP if they don't want to win?

As for server recommendations, Ajunta Pall is a great west coast RP-PVP server, as it's possibly the most balanced PVP server in the game, with I believe the 2nd biggest PVP pop of all, behind only The Fatman.

For the trial, you can go to the fleet, capital planet, and even do the first flashpoint. It's unclear, but it seems you can do WZ's as well, which is pretty cool. So saying that you're restricted to origin worlds isn't exactly accurate.

Gear grind: some of us just like to min/max and right now valor is the variable to this. I've never enjoyed warzones, only as a means to an end. Ilum/Smuggler's Den were supposed to be the playground for PKs like me, but both have failed fantastically. Den never took off given the risk/rewards were zero and Ilum was driven by dailies/weeklies; not PvP. Objective-based PvP isn't fun for me, since my mindset has always been doing damage and killing you. Perhaps I misspoke when I said people give up, because they will continue to fight -- just not for objectives.

I always play to win, but if my team isn't up to my standards then I'll do my thing and top damage/kill charts. From my perspective, I always win.

You get more valor for WZ wins though, so this still boggles my mind.

Thankfully, 1.2 should put a stop to people pvping for pve stuff, so this won't be a problem for too much longer.

Not really. I've lost plenty of games and got 2800 valor because I just medal farmed. Winning is usually ~3k if you get at least 4 medals, so the extra 200 for carrying my team isn't worth the headache. I'd rather just go in and have fun doing what I'm best at: killing you.

1.2 has rewards no longer tied to valor, and the rewards you will get (from rated WZ's) will get you the new PvP gear which will not be viable for PvE play.

I imagine people will still derp around, as always, but if you're not getting rewards for your PvE, hopefully most of you will stay outta my WZ's.

I imagine this was a move for fresh 50's not being able to compete with war heroes. Of course, if they had properly implemented PvP gear from level 10 and up, there wouldn't be such a huge issue. More likely is they poorly developed the expertise stat and it would scale uncontrollably at lower levels. Whatever the reason, it's a good change seeing as valor grinding only exists because of the BM gear.

Hey guys, I wanna give this game a try. If you want to send me an invite, shoot me a PM and we can exchange info.

I may respond with nudes. Maybe.

FYI the current problem with PVP gear, and hilariously creates the opposite of PVE players playing PVE for gear, is that expertise has a bad diminishing returns curve, so that BIS PVP gear is a mix of Battlemaster and Rakata. The PVP gear rebalance should fix the issue of having to do raids to optimize PVP gear as well. It's good for everyone!

And yeah, the gear grind at 50 to be competitive in PVP is pretty crap, so they're adding a starter PVP set that you can buy with credits.

Also, I'm trying to level a Sentinel to 50 via pvp and the gear gap from 20-40 is pretty bullshit (And with the change to gearing up and valor, leveling via PvP isn't quite as worth it for how much longer it takes, so I'm prolly switching to PvE leveling). It would be nice if they changed that in the future.

BiS is matrix cube and either 2pc rakata (which pieces will vary per class pending the armoring) or crafted belt & bracer (not rakata BTW) with main stat augments. Once you can pull the barrel/hilt from a T3 weapon, an orange craft with an augment slot will also be BiS. I've already min/maxed the hell out of my char and consistently get the 5k dmg medal in warzones, even on full BM players.

The rebalance will do nothing for the situation of needing to raid because of the set bonuses, though.

Is there a thread on CAG for people wanting invites to the 7-day friends trial? I have a few invites to give away.

Finally hit level 50. Operative spec'd to healing was a great idea for warzones. Had my 1000/1000 commendations ready to go, so even though I just hit 50 I was able to stay in the game and earn highest healer.

Now it is time to hit up those cubes and HM FP.

I see a ton of OP healers now because they're so broken in PvP. No healing class should be allowed the mobility they have and outheal two dps beating on them. They can literally just keep running in circles and keep instant heals going without ever dying. My second BM is an OP and I've just enjoyed stabbing people since it takes no skill and gets tons of rage tells. It's sad how easily I kill people on the OP, yet playing an arsenal merc takes so much more skill to be effective. I can open up on players for 10k easily in the span of the knockdown by pressing two buttons, yet the BH is lucky to get 3k in the same time and could be interrupted.

I'm ranting, but this game has a long way to go before it will be taken seriously by the PvP community. Our server has had a sharp dropoff of elite PvPers and I'm probably done next week unless my guys want to stay. The TORtanic is sinking fast. . .

The only problem with the OP healing is the inability deal decent nuke heals. If me or my teammates are at 60% HP and higher I can be effective, but if people are smart and concentrate fire onto one person, I can at most just prolong their death. Healing over time is only effective for so long.

Granted that this is my first MMO so things are still pretty new, but it seems stupid easy to lock-down a team and vice-versa.

Powertech DPS looks to be fun, so I have that to be my second character. Overall I am still enjoying the game with my buddies, though it will be another few more days before everyone is at level 50.

So I downloaded the trial to give it a try. I am impressed. So far it feels like a single player only game instead of an MMORPG.

I don't think it's worth 60 though.

Yeah, once you hit 50 the honeymoon is over. Some of the storylines really suck, like Agent, but others are really well done like BH.

Haven't played an agent yet, but I was under the impression popular consensus put it as the best story.

So, different strokes I guess.

Well I am (forget the level) a bounty hunter, doing all these little side quests and those hutt missions. I am on a standard server but see very few other real players. I do feel like I am playing a single player game. The Story is nice so far, but I want to explore the galaxy like I did with SWG...I might just end up subscribing to the game when I get paid.

I didn't finish my Agent but the story was awesome until level 35-40, then it got real weird and I stopped caring what was happening.

I got 2 50's and I got bored of the game about a month ago. I might subscribe for a little while around 1.2. My 2 accounts are actually still going was hoping they would last till 1.2 on the prepaid cards I had added.

Hmm....I guess the reports about TOR causing PC problems is true...my machine is slowing to a crawl and now getting weird pop up errors.

What "reports" are you speaking of? I haven't heard anything, and it runs just fine on both of my machines.

I have a trial.. I just can not get into this game. Cut scenes for collecting items in a quest? I don't know. It's pretty and essentially has a cool factor, but this didn't feel like an MMO. Just a glorified single player game.

Not saying it's bad. Just saying.. it's really not for me.

To be honest, I agree with you.. It feels very single player like....granted I was only on that one starter planet during the weekend, but I didn't see many people on.

I will wait for a price drop to around 30.

Even if there were a lot of people on you wouldn't see them thanks to their instancing. Though on your factions space station you'll see a lot more people as I believe instancing is a little bit different there than everywhere else.
