Bad guy selfies + Yoda wheeee!   They really phoned it in with these steelbooks.  Imagine all the cover art possibilities that would have made people line up to buy these movies at $30 apiece.

Nope, I'm not buying them until they're < $10.  I've re-bought Star Wars enough times over the years and this will be far from the last set ever produced.

You can either go with all main characters, or all dark side, whatever.   But if you're doing a theme at least have thematic cohesion.

If DMR were to re-institute their $8 off Blu-ray coupons, and the movies include digital copies, AND the movies cost $20 or less I might bite.

EDIT: I guess except for New Hope, the odd-ball...

EDIT part deux: If this artwork is final, those are some pretty cases:

Just found a link to a $3 off coupon at DMR: http://www.disneymovierewards.go.com/rewards/Disney-Movie-Rewards-coupon-6590

$3, lame.

One per account, lame.

No digital copies is a no-buy for me, especially since they double-dipped with the "new" releases that pretty much just come with the digital copies as the only real upgrade.

I'm hoping some vendor does the smart thing and provide discounts when buying 1 + 3, 4 + 6 or 1 - 6 on the same transaction.

The covers should be

I - Maul (got it correct)

II - Yoda (got it correct)

III - Anakin

IV - Luke

V - Vader

VI - Emperor
That storm trooper from the empire steelbook was like "Holy shit!? me? on the cover? I mean, it's a real honor and everything but I wasn't even on hoth and was the first one killed on bespin. Yeah, like an idiot I go running around a corner blind and get shot in the chest by princess Leia."

I think the prequel ones were chosen correctly. IV probably should have been R2D2, and V should have been Vader.

It feels like they're avoiding main cast for a reason, and choosing someone else who's iconic.

If you guys wanted Luke and (another) Anakin, then you would need Obi-wan in there somewhere.

Edit: The main driving forces behind the events are obviously Anakin, Luke, Obi-wan, and Palpatine. Darth Maul, as cool as he is, is a very minor factor. As in, he could have been replaced by any Sith Lord, and the same events would still unfold.

I haven't bought Star Wars on blu ray and was excited about these steels until I saw the pictures. They could have chosen so many cooler scenes or pictures to put on there. I will probably just grab the new box set version with Vader on the front instead of all these separate.

Thanks. I guess bought them before this was active but they took care of me in store. Online they said they were unable to price adjust because it was a bundle, so just did a return/rebuy in store to get the difference.

They're already 17 bucks at Walmart. Trying to decide if I'm willing to bite.
That's enough to make me think about it, if they come with the digital copies for each of the movies.

Especially since if WM has them for $17, other vendors will match them without much issue, especially BB and Amazon.

They're up on Amazon at $24.99, so I set camelcamelcamel.com watches on all six of them. When I get a chance, I'll do the "Tell us about a lower price" on Amazon for the WM.com prices, which should hopefully start on Amazon matching WM's prices for them.

Now that the back side art to the Star Wars steelbooks have been discovered and published online, this changes everything.

It is truly disappointing that they didn't put the movie poster art on the front sides.  But these steelbooks just went from "easy pass" to "definitely going to buy the set when they're $10-12 each"

I don't see that on their page anywhere. Where did you read that VUDU is included?
Most Walmart DVDs and Blu-rays come with VUDU stickers nowadays. And I don't know if it works with online products, but I know any movies or shows registered via Walmart's Savings Catcher app automatically unlocks VUDU on them unless the product is returned.

Most of the Blu-rays and DVDs that come with the Vudu redemption codes are the smaller release movies, as the bigger release movies tend to have either UV, UV/iTunes, or DMA.

Movies you buy online (and in-store) that are InstaWatch eligible result in an email being sent to your Walmart email with a link to add the movie to your Vudu. Also, only a select few movies become InstaWatch eligible (typically bigger releases) and I've never seen a TV show be InstaWatch eligible.

I thought one of the main reasons for this double-dip earlier in the year was that they were getting digital copies for the movies with the repackaged sets.  Wasn't that the only real reason for the double dip?  If you redeem the UV code on VUDU, it'll work on VUDU as well as Flixster.  I think I've only seen one or two movies not work between the two services with UV codes being redeemed on VUDU.

I can't imagine they would backtrack on this with the steelbook releases and not have a digital copy in the package.

I wish the walking dead season 2 and 3 was instawatch eligible on Wal-Mart

Great news the Walking dead season 5 steelbook price  went down to 34.99 is it good time to pre-order or will the price go lower

WARNING: BBY will not allow to cancel because the status will be automatically be set as backorder. You have to wait for it to be shipped and then return it for a full refund.

I think people need to realize that there is a 99.9% chance that we will never get the originals again. If you want the originals you need to hunt down the VHS copies.

They also made a DVD release with the originals, but they were a transfer of a full screen laserdisc, so they appear double letterboxed on a widescreen TV. I happen to have them and I can tell you the quality is not amazing. Better than nothing though, I guess.

Did those come out before the re editing was done or after?

I've been trying to find out if these steelbooks are going to be the original version played in the theaters. I still hear rumors of a original trilogy set coming out or just being sold solo like the steelbooks are. That and a digital copy is a must buy even if I already own all of the other versions lol.

Why would people think that these are anything other than the same releases as the current Blu Rays (aka the latest tweaking of the "Special Editions"?) Unless Lucas has had a huge change of heart, the unaltered trilogy isn't going to happen, at least not through official channels anyway.

They are the last revisions of the unaltered trilogy. They aren't exactly what played originally in theaters, but the changes are going to be much more minor and really only the kind of stuff that will drive the absolute purists insane. (Examples: "Episode IV: A New Hope" added to the Star Wars crawl, various sound changes, etc.) Lucas really never stopped futzing with the films, it's just that the changes were smaller until the SE. Lots of info on the changes out there. It can make your head spin.

Then again, if you wanna get technical, we never got an unaltered trilogy since Lucas has been tampering with them since they were released in theaters. Even the original VHS releases are altered.

Yea I've read on it. I personally dont let it bother me. The movies are still great either way.

The version in the steelbooks are the same blu-rays that were released in 2011, nothing more, nothing less. The new blu-ray set is being repackaged (has Darth Vader for the box art) with a couple extras but isn't anything ground breaking either. Unless you want them for the steelbooks, these are a pass really if you've got the blu-ray collection already.

Ditto. Have these sets - The remastered is on one disk and the originals is on the other. It's cool to have the originals on DVD, but the quality kinda sucks. Makes sense that they are double letterboxed (had to play with the zoom settings on my TV and Player to get them to look better, and now I know why).

That's really the only winning move. I've accepted that Lucas is never going to allow the unaltered trilogy to be reissued and moved on.

(At least the Library of Congress has 4K scans of them. Even if they are locked away, at least they've been preserved.)

Zavvi has a new ZBOX up and it includes a lenticular Steelbook of the original Iron Man. It actually looks really cool, too.

ahh k thanks, yeah I got the blu ray box set.

I will wait for the other less altered version i've been hearing about and pick it up. I hear it's the same as when they released the vhs copies but just blu ray quality and hopefully some type of digital copy included.
