Stranglehold - Gen. Discussion & Info
I used Tequila Time and got the achievement.
For some reason the first reason I went through and did not use any Tequila bombs it didn't come up. Then I went through a level again and did not use the D-pad or the left trigger and I got it.

Here's an easy way to get the old school achievement..

Not really a spoiler, but i'll mark it.

Beat the game on any mode. Go to chapters on the main menu and select the last scene on chapter 7. You'll instantly get old school no matter what.

i played online for a bit yesterday, there was only one server up with only one other player. i got destroyed which doesn't surprise me, but it seemed it was way easier for him to kill me than it was for me to kill him. i twice exploded a barrel right next to him, and shot the hell out of him and he still didn't die.

since there was only 2 people, once he got the first 2 kills, he was able to do the special moves with the tequila meter, thus killing me even easier. i realize this won't really be as much of an issue when matches have 6 people, but it still kinda sucked. i really didnt have much of a chance.

Sounds like what I've experienced online.

Anyone have tips on how to protect the musicians in the 3rd level? I always end up with the drummer last, then it ends up either I or the drummer getting killed.

Just stay away from them and let the bad guys come to you. That's what I did and nobody got shot. I stayed on the sides of the room and let everyone run at me and took them out. I am playing on normal right now, don't know if it is different on hard.

Lol, I was doing the opposite which was standing next to the band and killing the shooters, makes sense that moving away from the band would keep them out of harms way

I have beaten the first two levels and can't wait to play more. I really should play some Blue Dragon though. Oh well. Stranglehold is short, so I can finish it quickly.

I'm near the end of Chapter 5 right now (the Museum). I'm on this really retardedly hard fight (on hard mode no less.)

For beating the fight with the musicians, stay away from the band and let the enemies come to you, don't do much moving around. You should only really move when you've used up the 2 health packs in the corner you've chosen, then move to the next corner. I spent a long time on this fight, it's pretty tough.

Just beat the game on hard mode. Now I need to go through a few easy levels for a few more achievements, and then on to Hard-Boiled. The last two levels were pretty awesome.

Couple of things:

Beating the game on any difficulty unlocks the "beat the game" achievements for that difficulty and any lower. That's really nice.

I found a major game breaking bug on the final level. Here's how to avoid it, without any story spoilers, but I'm putting it in tags just for anyone who doesn't wanna know how the end fight plays out.

In the final battle, there will be a guy standing next to the boss. MAKE SURE YOU FIRE AT HIM. When you fire at him, he runs for a door and escapes. FAILING TO FIRE AT HIM WILL BREAK THIS. He'll stand there invincible and the game will not proceed.

Those that preordered at GameCrazy: The shotglass preorder bonus was not shipped with the copies of Stranglehold today. I don't know when they're coming in.

:bomb:

I caved in and picked this up today. I originally was going to wait until after I beat Blue Dragon, but I couldn't resist.

I'll probably play this on and off in-between leveling up in Blue Dragon on Disc 2.

I dunno about you guys, but this game is very repetitive so far. I'm on the long Ch 2 and i've done nothing but the same damn thing; just shooting and finding things. The camera is pretty awful sometime, but I don't blame it because its a 3rd person and there are lots of walls.

I do find the things that the bad guys say amusing. When you are going round and round without any direction, the bad guy will say "are you lost?" and starts shooting.

We got them in, but only five. For 9 preorders. Gah!

I picked up the CE. It's very entertaining. I doubt i'll trade it in, no matter how repetitive. It's one of those games that I'll put on and play when I Need to kill five or ten minutes. I'll play through single player tomorrow.. and probably beat it.

I hope Multiplayer isn't as unbalanced as i've been hearing

Brak was saying he was unloading on some dude from behind... and when the guy turned around, he got shot 3 times and died.

The Darkness was like that too.

Ay yi yi...Gamefly already has a "short to long" wait on this game. I think it's time to open up the game I bought at CC the other night if it doesn't ship out today...

The problem with Stranglehold MP is that you can't tell if someone is in a barrage. So you can unload on them and do no damage, and not be able to tell it.

Wow, this game's demo and the trailers I've seen of it have truly blown me out of the water. I think I'm really going to have to pick it up now this week. I'll BB to PM the CC thing.

I rented this game earlier this afternoon and after playing a couple hours I was curious if there's any difference between manual Tequila Time and getting it via doing cool tricks.

See, when reading previews of the game I thought it would be like FEAR where you'd have a limited amount of slow-mo that recharges over time, but that you'd also be able to get "free" slow-mo time via doing cool tricks, but apparently that takes away from your meter as well. So is there really any advantage to doing them, because right now I'm thinking the manual TT makes the game way too cheap. Any thoughts?

P.S. This game NEEDS a regular "jump" button. And it has an unused Y button. It wouldn't have taken a rocket scientist to make a connection there. sigh.

What's there to jump on?

how long does it take to beat this game? I have it in my gamefly "Q" but am wondering if its a short video rental instead.

It's pretty short. I would say around 5-7 hours. But it is fun enough to go back and play again. And obviously if you play on hard or hard boiled you extend the length of the game a little.

You get far more style points which means more tequila bombs, higher grade at the end of the level, and more points to unlock stuff with.

Is the game that difficult on Hard? I just got to the third level where you're handed the two guitar cases and I'm getting my ass kicked.

I fucking hate that level.

Honestly, it's the hardest level in the game. The last two are tough, but not as brutally unfair as level 3.

I beat this game last night. I'd have to say that it was honestly the most disappointing game I played this year. I'd been following this game for a couple years now and it always looked great in the gameplay videos, but in actual practice all the cool tricks like rolling back on roll carts, swinging on chandeliers, blowing up the environment so things fall on guys- all that stuff was not that practical at all in-game. I mean I think I used a roll cart maybe twice throughout the whole game as they were so rare and hard to use. To me, most of the game was just a lot of slow-mo diving while being shot at the whole time. It just felt clunky and cheap to me. It kind of reminded me of the action in Crackdown, but the infiltration scenes of that game were only there to punctuate the action, but that game was more about exploring and platforming. Here it is the whole thing. All just a bunch of shooting and being shot at, with little of the strategy, variety, or immersiveness that make other shooters fun.

I keep hoping that there's some great secret to enjoying this game. Maybe learning how to use certain moves and replay certain environments until I learn their innermost secrets- I may try playing the game again on Hard since I still have it rented for another few days, but I can't really motivate myself too when I feel I'd rather replay Bioshock. So have other people found the game getting better on a second playthrough?

I played through the first couple levels last night about to start it up again in a minute. I think they were trying to make the game similar to an action movie, in that way I think they mostly suceeded. Maybe short but action packed, not much wasting time which I like. Its definitely nothing to special but worth a play through :)

My store's already had a used copy come back through. I played it for about three hours and was shocked to learn that there's only seven levels and i'm on level five. Bummer.
Wish there were more to this game.
That's funny. I wish there were less to your sig. Seriously, that thing is huge! I think there's a courtesy cap to the length they should be. You may want to look into that.

well, that was quick. To anyone on the fence: Don't buy it. Just rent it. I can't believe I already beat it. That may very well be one of the shortest games i've ever played. 6-8 hours my ass.. more like 4 or 5 hours.

I hope the multiplayer is worth it. I don't feel like trading it or selling it, especially since I got the limited edition version, and the color on the disc is different which interests the collector in me.

Pfft. Play it on Hard. Normal is just too damned easy. Hard'll bust yer balls enough so that the game's length will be expanded enough to be a reasonable purchase.

Plus, the action is visceral and fun, so a replay is not out of the question. Dunno if I can say for sure it is better or worse than Max Payne, but I really liked it.

Seriously though, the only way shooters get to be over 6-10 hours these days is if they genre-blend so that they may slow the pacing, ala Bioshock.

I played through it on Hard and liked it enough to try it again on Hard Boiled. It doesn't seem THAT deadly so far...though those will probably turn out to be some famous last words when I get to the museum level again!

i was really excited for this, and it kind of sucks hearing about all the people saying its short, and only a renter. i'll probably wait to pick this up when it drops in price. atleast 10 dollars.

unless its an rpg[action or traditional] game... the game is usually short.. especially action games. We've been calling games short for a long time now, so I'm not worried about it anymore. Seems like people enjoyed the game... I know I enjoyed the demo.. I'm definitely gonna pick it up for ps3.

8/10. Good, clean, asian-dude blasting fun. You can put Max Payne away as this one is the new heir to the formula. Downsides? Short, but that shortness means it doesn't overstay its welcome, and you can replay it easily. It has enough arcadey goodness to be a good stress reliever type thing on down the line. A survival mode DLC thing would bookend the whole experience perfectly a la DMW in Max Payne 2. But, we'll just see what Midway cooks up.

The multiplayer is nothing to write home about. You can't even tell if your foes have an invincibility power on or not.

Also, play on Hard if you're anywhere near decent. Normal is too easy. Hard will keep the game going for a longer time, and you can always crank the difficulty down if you hit a wall.

Also, did anyone watch the unlockable Stranglehold prototype using the Psi-Ops engine video? As a massive Psi-Ops fanboy, that was better than porn for me.

Hopefully we get a Psi-Ops 2 pretty soon!

You can get almost all the single player achievements minus the Unlock shop and Hard/Hard Boiled in like 10 hours. You have to work for them though, you probably won't get them naturally through the game. They're pretty easy though.

Yeah. You can definitely get at least 500 points, playing it on Normal difficulty.

If you don't get the old school achievemnt the first time through, go to continue, it will take you to the end sequence of the game. It will count as playing the level and give you the achievement.

I don't know why everyone is knocking this game. It's damn fun and I'm about 1/2 way through and it's been a good 4 hours. You people need to lighten up. I don't play games to beat them I play them to ENJOY them.

On a side note: COD4 Beta is fucking awesome. That is all..

Don't even need to beat the game for that achievement. Just beat the first level and before you start the second, load up the last boss in Chapter 1. Beat him only using Tequila Time (slow-down) and you have it. Pretty easy.

The Paper Crane Achievement is bugging me. I've gotten all the single player achievements minus the Hard/Hard Boiled difficulty and the Paper Crane. I wish there was a way to track (in-game) how many I've collected so far, since I feel like I've collected more than enough.

I've only tried the multi-player once and it was alright. I might try it a couple more times to see if I can get some of the online achievements.

I've played it twice so far, and I've yet to see that Achievement.

I'll probably play it on Baby mode to accumulate more origami shits.

Finally beat it on Hard Boiled.

What a Hellish ride that was...

Thanks for the posts and recommendations guys!

I loved this game. It's really fun taking turns with a friend too, making fun of al the unnecessary stuff Tequila does, along with wondering where the hell the doves come from when he does Tequila Time.

It's priceless using Tequila Time and during the animation you find out there was only one guy there.

The levels I had a lot of fun playing:
The boss level where he's setting all the laser bombs. We found a way to exploit it by only going forward until you fight him at the bottom of the steps, and then turn around and go to the beginning, there's an origami crane hidden on a ledge behind it, and if you keep going, the ledge curves and leads you to another 3 origami cranes. One on the ledge and two on the little thin decoration path things you can run on.

But if you go for those, be careful because if he shoots you, you'll fall down and it's a MAJOR pain in the ass if you fall because you're not at a point in the level you're supposed to be so there's lasers everywhere.

The other level I had a blast with was the bar one where you fight the guy in a gold suit with the rocket launcher. That dude killed like 4 of his own guys when they went after me and I kept using Active Aim to shoot him in the balls.

Damn. Congrats. I don't know if I could beat Hard Boiled.

I played through the game once and got a lot of the cranes. Then I finally got the Orgami achievement after replaying the same level over and over for 30 minutes.

I want to get the MP Host achievements (I have 6 maps to do), but hardly anyone plays it online and it's a pain to wait around.
