Stranglehold - Gen. Discussion & Info
The MP video showed that Tequila Time (slow-mo) is in....how the hell is that going to work?
Maybe the same way as FEAR? **shrugs**

Everytime I play through the demo, about 10 minutes in, it freezes... Anyone else have this problem?

Yeah, it's not technically frozen, but twice I've had the character "floating" in mid air and I cannot unlock it, so I've had to just restart from the last checkpoint :twoguns:
Never played FEAR, how does the bullet time work in MP?
You picked up an item that let you slow down everyone else.
The MP video showed that Tequila Time (slow-mo) is in....how the hell is that going to work?
I had read somewhere that it basically slows down for everyone when activated.

There was a mod for Half-Life that I used to love to play called "The Specialist".. it had bullet time in multiplayer. The way it worked is everyone within a certain radius from the person that used the BT would get slowed down. It was funny to walk normal speed and run across people going in slow motion. It was a hell of a lot of fun, though

This game seems really cool but I have one nitpick.

I really wish the whole game was chinese with subtitles. Since that's how most of us John Woo fans enjoyed most of his movies. It's a little distracting to have a number of characters speak as if they are American, while the hero has a thick chinese accent, and the game takes place in Hong Kong. I mean for shits sake, even english speaking asians in Hong Kong at least have a British accent.

At the very least, it should be an option to toggle on or off, since I know there is a crowd out there that hates subtitles with a deep fury.

I can't believe how good this game is.. I wonder how long this game has been in development? And have any of you shot the fountain in the beginning? I was really surprised when I did that.
And have any of you shot the fountain in the beginning? I was really surprised when I did that.
I came here to post that very thing. I tried shooting up the fountain and to my suprise it came completely apart, to the point where I shot the bottom of it and water leaked onto the ground. That's insane.

I was also surprised when I slid down the rail and then hit the left trigger at the bottom. Try it yourself and see. :)

I'm on the fence about the demo. I thought it was fun, and had some cool features, but it just seemed like chaos to me, and not the good kind. And personally, I thought the graphics just looked awful. Really, really bad.

Wow I just played the demo and I loved it. They did the whole slide manuever alot bettter then I thought it was gonna be and also the tequila time was pretty cool. Definately a buy for me.

dunno if you guys knew this, but if you hold forward and hit the left bumper near a table, he kicks it on its side and you can duck behind it.. I don't recommend it for the wooden tables though as they can get shot up.

I did not know that.

In fact they were making fun of this in EGM about the next splinter cell about how it is smart to hide behind tables that can't stop bullets.

dunno if this has been mentioned, but at the last part of the demo right before you go into the restaurant, if you shoot at the wooden fence under/near the balconey, the wood breaks apart and exposes two machine guns that i presume you can use next time you play the demo.

there's also three different locations for golden pistols

Good to see that I wasn't the only one irked by the english voice-overs. It really killed the story for me. Hopefully there's a language option. Regardless, the demo was the most fun I've had playing a demo since the DEAD RISING demo last year. I'm actually thinking about breaking my vow never to by new games on Day 1 just to get this.

Wow, I downloaded the demo the day it came out, andk didn't really care for it. However, I played it again today and found it very fun. It plays very smoothly, and I just find shooting the people in the crotch with precision aiming, and then they grab their balls to be hilarious and fun. Definently more interested in this than I was before, and totally a top contender for a game to get at the TRU B2G1 free sale(I am already planning on which games to get ).

Last year it was like the last year of October, which I am willing to wait for. However, it can be around that time I think, earlier or later.

Really? I can't wait to see your list of games that have better destructible graphics....

The language didn't bother me as much as the voice-over. Sorry, but....could they not find ANY asian voice actors? It was really weird to me to be hearing really overtly white male voices coming from Asian characters. It seemed really really out of place.

How can I tell they're white? Well 1 I'm Asian, and 2. C'mon.

I enjoyed the gameplay of the demo a lot, but I felt that it was like a corridor shooter, with the same graphics reused over and over untill I finished the demo

The main character is voiced by Chow Yun Fat. He's reprising his role as Inspector "Tequila" Yuen from 1992's Hard Boiled.

*sigh* Do people on the internet think other people on the internet are really that dumb? But I suppose my question wasn't that detailed.

I'm referring to the enemies, especially the ones in the bar before the demo ends.

I never implied that you were dumb.

You did say "ANY" asian voices with an emphasis on any. Don't know what you expected someone to think you meant. There's at least one other asian voice actor besides Chow.

I'm asian and I'm not huffing about the voiceovers. It's certainly not the selling point here and definitely not something worth complaining about in this game.

I played through the demo once tonight. The minute I was getting bored of it, it ended. Feels a little loose for me, both in the aiming and the traversing. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would, but maybe when the Hardboiled DVD arrives from Amazon this week, I'll be more inclined to play.

Honestly, this just felt like a prettier Dead to Rights with more interaction. Now, I loved DTR when it first came out, but I wanted more of a next-gen feel. It's so linear, the character models aren't very good, and it seems to lack depth (aside from shooting all the different crap).

Again, these are just my once-through impressions. If I was writing a preview on it, I'd have a lot to gush about, too.

I agree it's not a selling point, but I think it's a point that should be brought up. If they wanted this game to be a direct sequel to Hard-Boiled..it should have Asian voice actors because well...it's an Asian movie. I still very much enjoyed the game, but the hearing the VO for Asian character models from mostly white actors was just a bit strange is all.

I just played the demo for the first time last night and only had two things that bugged me:

- mystery light sources. I'd come upon a super bright area, specifically with a light shining on a wall. I go to shoot out the light and there is none.

- voiceovers. I haven't read the thread, but from the last post, looks like I'm not the only one. An entire Asian cast voiced by white guys... ugh.

Loved the demo. It is a little annoying how Tequila slides across every flat surface in the game, though. I love the precision targeting and blasting some fools in the groin.

I'm anxious to see more multiplayer videos, though.

Aight, I have no access to XB Live so I have to go over to my friends house w/ HD in tow to download demos. Now, I got the Stranglehold demo when it was released, played it on my buddies system and all was good. When I took it home, it comes up as being there, but when I try to launch it, it never loads up. I thought maybe something was wrong with the download. Yesterday I took it over to another friends house and it played perfectly (he, too, is online like my other friend). So can I not play this on my system because I'm not online? Has anyone ever had this problem before. No big deal but that's the only game that this happens on. Any help would be appreciated. Peace!

Hmmm....maybe the demo has built in DRM and must access the interwebz so you can play it....like when you transfer arcade games to the bigger harddrive

They have their DRM on THEMES (my RvB theme will only load when I connect to Live, since it is tied to my original console), a demo isn't surprising.

Marketplace content works like so. When you download any content, it is tied to both the console you download it on and your gamertag. If you are using your original console, you can access the content without being connected to Live. If you use your hard drive with that gamertag on a different console, then you MUST be connected to Live to access the content, be it demos, downloaded expansions, themes, videos, anything.

Which is annoying if you opted to upgrade to an Elite, like me. Seriously, Microsoft should just allow people to re-associate the content to a new console, say, once every three months. That way upgraders (like me) or those who got replacement consoles could avoid this problem.

If GameFly is any indication, Stranglehold just got pushed back a week. Even Gamestop is showing the release date to be 9/5 now. Figures.

Good, now I only have to buy Metroid this week.
