Street Fighter IV PS3 Official Discussion Thread

well, i had the pleasure of getting mauled by jekki's blanka. its just a whole world difference between doing regular/super moves and linking/cancel/fadc into them.

and thanks for the tips. im better with hdr cammy. still haven't made the transition. if you didnt notice during our games, i kept whiffing on the hooligan throws.
Holy crap Jman! Fifty matches. That was pretty nicely done. I had a great time playing you and I learned quite a bit.
That is the longest I've played the game at once. My total time now is 13:55. I think Street Fighter 4 is my favorite game now. After about 30 matches I wondered to myself I wonder how much longer is he going to play. xD Yeah it was fun. We should do that again sometime. ^_^

I finally beat the survival mode last night on normal and the first round on hard. so I am all proud of my little trophy for that.

now tonights 3 tasks.

-get up to 200 matches online
-finish the last 7 rounds on time challenege normal
-unlock all colors and personal actions

DarkKenpachi, what kind of controller do you use? I tried to join up with your invite but was stuck on my 4/5 cammy training challenge. Sticking to quatercircle characters until i get my joystick & trying to get timing and anti-air down.

Does anyone use the fightpad? I like the way it looks like it feels but I wonder how it actually does feel.

The really need to a provide an update that allows locking of characters. I'm sick of playing against Ken/Akuma/Sagat online and people just spamming fireballs. Once most of them realize I can avoid them (using Blanka) and I'll just wait the time out (with more health then them), they just disconnect.

Also, people that play 1 Round are stupid, as are people who don't install, as are people that wait until the last second to choose (AKA Ken/Akuma/Sagat). At least I highlight who I'll be.

Oh, and please add me. I need to play against some CAGers instead of random losers online.

Damn, I suck at this game. I can't even make it through Arcade Mode on easy and it's getting really frustrating. I've only played Street Fighter maybe once or twice before this game, so I can't wrap my head around the move sets and timing and all that jazz. Playing with Ryu and all I can do consistently is his fireball and spinning kick across the screen. Will this be something I get noticeably better at from just playing or am I going to have to put it more time to actually learn the little things separately? I'm even stuck on the normal challenge mode with his move sets.

Erase your install and patch and go from there. I noticed the game was hard as shit on easiest, but then when I did that, the game became so much easier. The patch messed something so easiest will be like medium/hard for Seth.

I got kicked twice in a row earlier by frustrated spammers.
One kid kept picking Blanka and trying to spam me with his electricity and so I kept picking Abel and everytime i saw him punch a couple times wildly I knew he was tapping Punch and so i would run up and throw him around.
If he did manage to get electricity going I would focus attack and super him.

Once he realized he couldn't do this anymore and had to pick someone new guess where he went:Ryu..lol
So I picked ryu too and spammed him back until he got sick of losing and kicked me

The next kid kept picking bison so I would counter everything he did with cammy and then he gave up and went to, ready for it...Ryu..lol...I got kicked by that kid too

I honestly don't think it was hard at all on easy. Seth was just annoying sometimes it seems. You should try it on the hardest diff, and you will be like omg Seth really is annoying. ;)

I use the plain old ds3. though I would be better if I had a stick. I can pull normal moves off 95 percent of the time, supers and ultras 90 percent of the time depending on who it is and 60 percent of the time with zangief.

I will add you later tonight, 1 round matches are the key to getting an easy ranked 10 win streak. lol also the key to getting that one time medal that mostly everyone is missing.

though I may sound harsh my advice is to keep playing. let frustration set in and keep playing. trust me you will get better. that is why bison on the hardest levels of the other games is so predicatable and easy to beat.

I was about the same until I picked up HD Remix. Just keep playing, keep reading guides online, and keep practicing. If you aren't having fun/learning something when you lose, you probably won't like this game.
Erase your install and patch and go from there. I noticed the game was hard as shit on easiest, but then when I did that, the game became so much easier. The patch messed something so easiest will be like medium/hard for Seth.
No, that isn't the problem. I saw on other forums and experienced that myself. The cause is when you play online first , then go to single, it will glitch Seth to Meduim/Hard on any setting. There might be more than one cause for the glitch, but this makes more sense to me since I experienced it firsthand.

So is Sagat considered cheap/a new player's main? I just picked him because of his looks and moves. I guess I need to pick someone else... I love him so much though.

lol in my first game online a guy named dino*** disconnected after one round (hope he isn't on here..). Almost reminded me of the SC days where people disconnected partway through ladder matches. So far two ryus in a row.

Play who you like. If you like Sagat, roll with it. It's not a popularity contest, and while he is high tier, he's not completely unstoppable. Most of the cheap tactics (Tiger shot spam) are punishable anyway.

I was thinking the same thing, but I felt I just had to get to fifty. It was also a great way to break in my Madcatz fight pad. I think it worked pretty great, but even with the ergonomic grip my hands were getting worked towards the end.

I'm really starting to like El Feurte and Dhalsim. I totally suck with Dhalsim but I'm having fun when I play him and that's what matters.

So can anyone point me at some sites / resources where I can learn to play better? i.e. learn how to do better with combos and how to do the challenges and what not? There's usually resource portals for fighting games right?

This may help, but it doesn't have all the characters, just the playable arcade characters:

http://www.iplaywinner.com/

EDIT: Here's another with all the characters:

I was watching the 1Up video with the four guys playing SFIV (360). Theirs had the option to change each individual character's voice to either English or Japanese. The menu comes up when you select "Battle Voice" to either ENG, JPN, or BY CHARACTER. I don't see this in the PS3 version though, only the global option of English or Japanese. Is this exclusive to the 360 version or were they playing a non-retail build?

It's unlocked after you beat the game once.

Definitely Esper, we had some good, close games! Well, except when your Balrog devoured my El Fuerte in that one match

Im going to buy a sega usb controller over the madcatz one. Can anyone recommend someone to buy these off ebay from that they have had success with in the past? Thanks in advance.

Oh and Ive seen dark gray ones for $45, black ones and light gray w/multi-colored buttons for around $30. Are the dark gray ones made better? Or is it an aesthetic preference people have?

i read online that the Saturn USB controllers all control the same, regardless of color. One thing to consider is that they were produced in Japan with the japanese components- not the same used in America. That means the control will feel a little different than you remember.

Probably won't be a deal breaker for anyone though.

i'm looking for some fellow CAGs to play tonight. PM me if your interested. I've started to main Balrog, but I play Chun, Abel, and Shotos resonably well also.
I just played against Kenpachiexodia...

I destroyed him one round and I just thought he let me win... instead his kids hit the PS button
that was funny last night. my wife came running to the living room to hear me screaming as I was trying to trap my twins in the corner as they both had a controller. lol. Great games after that though. your good hit me up anytime you want a match.

in addition to any sites people pointed out to you, I suggest you do 3 things:

1. play with EVERYBODY. this allows you to first hand experience their weaknesses
2. even though the harder levels may frustrate you, just up the ante if your just trying otu a new character
3. fight basically until you learn to be flashy. (even though a 10 hit dragonpunch combo is great, unless you can consistently do it don't waste a hit opportunity. just throw them or use a plain dragon punch)

bonus note: when in doubt google Daigo videos. lol

as with all other competitive games, experience is your best teacher, i.e. getting owned a few times. Initially I was jump happy, but when I calmed down a little bit I found that patience and a bit of persistence can help you win some battles. Coming back to win with 1mm of health is ever so satisfying, especially without using a super lol.

In other news my wife owned me a good 50% of the time, even though she doesn't normally play these games -_-, especially with vega though lol.
Are the endings different depending on what difficulty you beat it on?
nope.

so true. so true

I will be on tonight definately add me.
kenpachiexodia.

not sure if I can be called talent these days because I haven't really picked my main character yet. I have a whole lot of faves though. lol

I am having the damnedest time breaking 2K BP. I just leave it on arcade mode with match accept on, and I get matched up with people that have no BP (so I get like 6 for the win) or just totally get outclassed by guys that have like 3K+.

Also, is there anything out there that lists the conditions you need to unlock certain icons? I haven't unlocked one in forever (cowboy chicken was probably the last one I got).

EDIT: Nevermind, just had to go to Gamefaqs. Guess time trials and survival mode hard is where it's at. For some reason I thought the icons were related to online play.

I finished the Normal Trial challenges last night, some of those were a pain! Probably will take a break from the Hard Trials and focus on getting better online. I think I'm going to end up with Cammy as my main, seems the most natural for me to play. Might have Rose as my backup/secondary once I get more familiar with her.

If anyone wants to get a few games in tonight, I'll be on after midnight EST. I usually mix it up with different characters when I play with CAGs and friends. I might be on Killzone 2 single player, but just send me an invite and I'll hop onto SF IV.

I can;t vouch for those guides on gamefaqs yet because I unlocked all personal actions and colors by just beating the time challenge and survival on normal. but according to them it is different. but it would seem that beating all modes on hard should give more icons because I am missing over 90 percent of them while I am at about 50 something for titles.

I will add you tonight. congrats on finishing the time trial challenege. I finished it last night also and I got a bronze with having over 150 seconds remaining. I was thinking what do you have to do to get a gold?

they should of made the install for this game mandatory... it makes no sense to play with the bad load time off the disc.

The crap part is playing online with people that don't have it installed.

What's the point of installing it if I have to wait anyway?!?

They should just let the match start while the other guy is still loading. That'll make people install it real fast.
I will probably hit you up later tonight. Buns out. :)
Haha, sounds good!

Sounds good, I meant the combo/move trials for each character, haven't finished the time trials yet. I think I've done a few of the time trials but still have 15 or so left.

even better GenDV138 the time trials and survival trials are silly but necessary to unlock everything :(

I stopped at Chun li's 3rd or 4th trial when you have to do the target air combo into 3 air heels. I was ok this is silly and never played it again. lol

though doing the trials for ken really can help a lot of people with the combo master.

cool, i got my 100th win online and received some goodies (gold trophy - 'ten years to late', title [Well Known Fighter], icon [bouquet of flowers], and a Home Reward (Akuma's "Ten" T-shirt). Awesome. :) Who else here earned this award?

Haha yeah, if you didn't like that trial with Chun Li's 3 air heels, you'll probably hate the one with Gen where you have to juggle his Gekiro in the air around 8 times in a row with perfect timing.

The trials are definitely a lot easier if you have a stick, don't think I would have been able to get through them all with a controller.

Any idea how to actually do Ryu's Jump HP, HK, Shinku Hadoken combo in the trials? I can't get the fireball to work without it being blocked.

jump in deep to do a close HK. only the close HK can be canceled, and it has to be cancelled on the first hit.

you will have to finish the motion for the shinku hadoken fast enough before the second hit of the close standing HK connects.

btw, I'm assuming this. I havent even done the trial myself, I jus kno how to play Ryu lol

Good games, Kenpachi! Lost quite a few rounds, but definitely learned from some of my mistakes. Still fun though and we had some pretty close matches. Cammy's definitely my best character it seems like.

I'll probably be on again tomorrow after midnight EST if you or anyone else wants to get some games in.
